My son gave me a bunch of feeder guppies. I've had them in a 20g. They have breed to be beautiful reds, blue, and cobra mixes. I call it my rainbow tank. The variety is endless and beautiful 😍 I love mutt guppies!

Last weekend I bought 2 red dragon trio guppies from my LFS, few hours after they were acclimated there was like 20 fry in the tank. Guess i got lucky
Not lucky, just well taken care of fish.
I'm glad I saw this video. I really liked breeding mutt guppies in my tank but I always felt it was kinda pointless to not breed a specific strain. I just really love seeing the different combos that come from breeding mutt genetics! Thanks for making this one!

For your mutt ponds outside, you might consider doing one pond with mutts with the half black bodies and one tub with mutts without any half black bodies. That will help prevent the half black bodies from muddying up the colors of them all.
It's like you read my mind! TBH, I was only going to do the the ones without black so I don't make anymore like that.

@ReenesZooTube, very good point, the whole time I was looking @ them, not up front but in the back of my mind, I was thinking he's got a lot of just the dark fish like 1/2 & how that would seriously impact the school as a whole... could like you said (if possible) one just dark, one mainly lighter colors, & maybe like seconds/thirds ? fish from the light & dark (not many, just back-up to back-up), any reason for more !)

I ordered a trio of Red Dragon Guppies from Coast Gem USA. Long story short they gave me 3 females on accident, but all three are pregnant. So far 2 of the 3 have had fry and I now have 19 babies and still waiting for one more batch!

Turns out, I've been doing the same thing accidentally. I have a similarly large tank now that someone had given me, I moved the guppies I had into the tank and bought a few more. Now I have just about 100ish guppies (it's hard to count them, they breed quickly). It's a mix of Turquoise guppies, Tequila sunrise, Japan blue, Cobra endler and Lyre tail. Pretty much everything you can buy at petsmart paired with about 8 corydoras. The colors they produce are amazing. Don't sleep on mutt guppies lol

My mom wants to get a guppy tank with deferent colors. We will probably have mutt guppies, but we don't mind. They are still cute, as long as they are healthy, we will be happy. I just want to get her a bigger tank, I have a 15 gallon but want to get her a 30 gallon. She will be glad to know that the babies will still be colorful. We don't want to sell them, just want something to look at and see them grow.

What I did for my mutts I bought a platinum red dumbo ear male for like £3 (4.50 dollars) and a female with a HuGE blue tall and the mutts are just spectacular
Brilliant! (gotta say it in a fake british accent like I did)
No one can call themselves a fish hobbiest/breeder if they kill off fish just because they're "ugly" (to you) or "mutts." I have some mutts rn from a platinum female I got from a store. They don't have full body color as I'd like, but their spotting is SO unique. Color covers about 1/2 to 2/3 of their bodies.
Some of the females are orange translucent. The males have some mosaic traits & coi traits. And most of them have the luminecent trait from the mom.
One of the males I'm keeping looks like a crystal. He has a white body, pink & blue undertones, and light orange around the face. He got most of his mom traits, but even has a cople specks on his tail from like his mosaic dad.
Another one looks like a koi, but is opaque not translucent.
I don’t kill fish because they are ugly, I sell them for a profit.

That tank is beautiful!!!!!! I have never owned Guppies. EVER. But you have me wanting some! I have a spare 20 gallon tank, so if I order 5 Mutt Guppies, what happens if they breed? Won't they overcrowd the tank? What happens to the babies? I have heard that the mothers will stop breeding, I've heard that the fathers will start eating them, I've heard that you have to sell them or give them away; what happens?!?!?! How can I just keep a colony of them in a 20 gallon tank???
You can keep just males, let nature take its course or sell them!

Spotted a yellow variegated snakeskin male in their I would like & a couple females that "matched" well (imho) I would mate him to. I feel where your coming from with your opinions on mutts. LoL Story... Few year's back I had some halfblack blue females I wanted to breed out. Issue was, I needed a suitable male. Finally I managed to find the ends of a batch of turquoise guppies with one male. No breeder (99%) would have chosen, due to that long red color defect in his tail. F1 males were (putting it lightly) stellar. Surpassing in color,finnage,etc. And NO color defect in ANY of 20+ generations. So mutts can truly surprise you sometime. 🐠😎✌

Hey we had an exam based on your video it was really cool. One flaw though. Female guppies sexually select more colorful male guppies. Female coloration matters less in terms of reproduction and you might have even more success than you already do if you select more colorful males for your breeding

@@MichaelsFishRoom It was our school (University of the Southern Caribbean) And since it's still pandemic times we had an open book exam for Ecology (On Moodle). Basically we had to read part of the book and then look at your video especially from 9:30-13:00 and use your video as an example situation.
Anyway according to our books and professor female guppies sexually select more brightly colored male guppies. They're seen as more dominant and healthier in the eyes of the female.
If you're still wondering how they'll do in the wild if you released them though that depends on what predators there are. A lot of predators will easily attack the very colorful ones but your guppies with less coloration will be fine. However if there's little to no predators the bright colors will prevail throughout in the wild.
So the trade off is reproductive success vs easier to spot by predators. In terms of your safe tank though you'll get a lot of colorful fish because the females naturally will go after more colorful males to breed with. But if you separate them off for breeding try to select bright colored males and don't worry too much about the female color (I mean they can be colorful if you want but don't fret too much on it :) ). This will make it so that the males you separate for breeding get a chance to pass their genes. If for example you take a dim color male and bright male the females will virtually always reproduce with the bright colored male and you don't get a lot of baby guppies sharing the dim colored male's genes.

Falling behind on your videos trying to research a bicycle build for my wife and building a cabinet for the garage to hold all my stuff so there is more room for new tanks. Next time you are in Japan, if you go by a bike store, pop in and see what Brands they sell. I’m just curious if they sell different brands than USA, or made in Japan bikes. Most (99%?) bikes are made in... **DRUMROLL** China. Also, bikes in the USA are made for tall people and I’m wondering if Japan has smaller sized bikes. (My wife is short)

I have a 29 gallon mutt guppy/platy tank, and I'm currently establishing a 10 gallon pink flamingo breeder (waiting for it to get warmer so I can order plants and then start cycling it with seeded filter media) and was wondering what plants you would suggest? I've been thinking guppy grass as the main plant and some type of floating plant. I've heard salivina minima and frogbit are good. I want something that grows decently fast since my tap has 20ppm nitrates. I'll also have ribbon plant and pothos growing out of this tank too with 50% weekly water changes.

@@MichaelsFishRoom oh thanks, I literally listened to it three or four times and couldn't quite make out what you were saying. I am actually making the transition from bristlenose plecos of all varieties to some fancier ones. I'm just finishing my first week with new l134, l264, and l333 that that I got. It's quite exciting. It will be a while to grow them out, but it's a blast and they sure are beautiful. I still have about 200 longfin albinos growing out that will be going to the local fish store within a couple weeks. I'm going to step back from breeding quite so many, although I won't stop, and will be concentrating on acquiring some new additional fancier species. Best regards.-Bruce

I remember I started w/ goldfish they where cool & I had them exclusively for a very long time (@ least for me the common (carp body) goldfish are/where very forgiving hearty fish, but then I heard about breeding live-bearers & egg-layers (I have never tried egg-layers) & I was hooked (pun but not intentional) right I am chopping on the bit (& have for a few moons now) I to breed true Red Cobra Guppies/Endlers (thought I heard you liked them too... I called them "metallic tiger strips w/ red/orange w/black spots tails) I know what you are talking about as far as the Mutt-Guppies; see always having to breed true the in-breeding just naturally re-enforces whatever defects carried in that line (think Hapsburgs of Austria... the chin !) but take a male & a 2-3 females all them different, instead of bottle necking the gene pool you open them up (wild guppies look more like Endlers except not as bright & flashy) but they took those fish & created the fish lines of today (in-breeding all the way, in fact I've seen many of my mutts thinking man that would be a cool fish propagate, but then I would really be covered in aquariums instead of half covered (if I could have more I probably would) any ways I want to know how you keep guppies in outside "ponds" year-round in Jersey, I am in So.Ca. (or as I call it : The State of Confusion) & I believe my weather year round is probably nicer/warmer I dont think I would take a chance so what's your secret unless you just have massive electric bill or solar; My Name is Vito (like the Godfather !) I am going to check "your Store" for mutts, maybe look out for red cobra genes here & there2
