    Damn. To be called ‘one of the greats’ by Chris FREAKIN’ Perkins must be high praise for Matt. And for him to be able to finally put his watermark on an official D&D product must be a dream come true, even if a bit surreal. I’m really happy for all parties involved with this project and can’t wait for this next set of adventures to come out. :-)

      Game recognize game. Chris and Matt are unquestionably the top two DMs; you have the lead designer of the game's content dedicated to rich and often unpredictable world building, and you have a consummate storyteller who also happens to be a badass professional voice actor. I hope they collaborate more on future campaigns, as Chris said.

    A DnD adventure with influences from critical roles story telling and key and peele's humor sounds right up my alley. I can not wait for September.

    Bringing in Mercer as a consult was an excellent idea, but hearing the specific reasons and things that he worked on, I don't think you could have chosen someone better. There's no greater mind when it comes to intricate details like compelling character/villain motivations, good placements of encounters, etc.

      Just imagine what it would be like to sit in the room with him and Mercer as they bounce ideas off each other.
      That's what I call a source of inspiration.

    So when can we expect a Perkins/Mercer podcast? For the sake of art and posterity, and the kind of fan base that would somehow make it profitable

    Matt's stock has definitely taken off immensely because of Critical Role. I know that there are a lot of D&D players who say that he's not that impressive, back I don't see why they'd say that. Matt Mercer is a huge ambassador of the D&D brand, he has a profound understanding of how the game's mechanics work, and is amazingly talented at being both a competent and entertaining DM. I wouldn't be surprised at all if the guy is on WotC's payroll in the next few years. It would be awesome to have him work alongside Mike Mearls and Chris Perkins full time.

  • @kaldraco3579
    @kaldraco3579 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I believe that in a previous PAX event, Chris Perkins said that he was looking for people that were like minded to pass the torch of D&D onto. He may have just meant to ignite the fires of creativity and inspiration in their souls but if... just if he actually meant that as a call for someone to step up and take the helm Principal Story Designer I think and will say with confidence that others would agree Matthew Mercer would be a prime candidate for that role. From what I have seen I believe Chris Perkins is a good and thoughtful individual and wish him many more great years being the Dungeon Master for a game I have all come to love even more over the years. May your rolls always be critical successes.

    Why has the camera been so closely framed on the speaker's faces in all the recent videos? It makes it a little uncomfortable to watch on full screen mode.

  • @mattwilcoxuk
    @mattwilcoxuk 5 ปีที่แล้ว +96

    Technical nitpick: Just because you have a fancy lens that opens to f/1.0 doesn’t mean you should use it wide open all the time. Please for the love of Lathander stop it down and let’s have more than an eyelash in focus. It’s so distracting when the tiniest bit of movement blurs people’s face completely. This happens on all your recent videos, and it’s distracting.

    • @mattwilcoxuk
      @mattwilcoxuk 5 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Update: I love and appreciate that you are putting a lot of effort and money into improving all this stuff, it’s just that this sort of effect/choice is a bit “still learning how to do this stuff” and that delicious bokeh is not right in the context of interviews. Save this level of depth of field for locked down distances on controlled static objects.
      If you’re trying to make things feel a little more “pro” or “alive” a better choice for interviews like this might be a very slow slider, and a somewhat deeper depth of field that ensures the focus is “sharp” from tip of nose to front of ear. Still a bit of bokeh, but not too much.

      It kinda puts off the look like Chris Perkins is swimming in a pool of gelatin.

    • @Contrapulator
      @Contrapulator 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Chris especially loves to lean forward and back while he talks, so he's constantly going in and out of focus.

    • @DEinarsson
      @DEinarsson 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      To add to this, if you guys stop down and move them further from the background, you'll get the same effect and keep focus.

      Its getting yourself out there to receive a certain level of recognition. Chris Perkins himself started out sending in articles to the magazines 'Dragon' and 'Dungeon' before he started working for Wizards of the coast.

    Tell Chris Perkins to stop wearing that damn hat for interviews. It plays havoc with the camera focus and makes it hard to watch the video because it makes his face out of focus at times. Or just tell your camera guys to stop using such narrow depth of field when your interviewee is wearing a hat!

    I feel Matt Mercer is a good DM, but is not THAT good. They got him because alot of players know who Matt Mercer is. No one in my Group knew who Ed Greenwood, Hickman, Weis, Perkins, Todd kenrick, or Mike Mearls and a long list of others i read to them, But they have seen critical role and Heard the Voice actors who played their characters and it is very cinematic to watch.
    Theyre are many writers and designers better than Mercer and more deserving. He's just famous.
