    Durnan the innkeeper is the first NPC i've ever met in a RPG game, 23 years ago. Sweet memories!

    Durnan is The Man. Every D&D player should meet him and every DM should pay honor to this NPC.

    No one does a finer job of describing the genius of Ed Greenwood's writing than Chris Perkins.

    Durban is probably one of the most low-key meta characters in D&D. I really like him now! I wonder if we could ever run into Elminster in this adventure?

    • @disgruntledgoatgames
      @disgruntledgoatgames 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      In the Tales from the Yawning Portal book, there is a table for what customers might be in the taproom. One of the options is a drunk asking Durnan questions and eavesdropping with a chance that it's secretly Eleminster .

      Disgruntled Goat Games That's why I mentioned it. I'd honestly like to Rp a small conversation for players if given the chance.

    I like how Chris' cap DEMANDS focus everytime he shifts position.

    I didn’t know Durnan and Mirt were friends that could actually be a really fun plot hook for one of my pcs into getting that character to join the harpers, plus my PCs did save Renear a member of the harpers so...

    Some would say that the creatures you face are actually the Hordes of the Underdark.

    Wonder if Durnan sells maps to the Underdark? As a wizard I'd be tempted to memorize a bunch of invisibility spells in order to safely explore the Underdark. Or maybe just hire a small army of NPCs and clear it out room by room. :-)

    • @TheRayny
      @TheRayny 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      if i remember correctly, the dungeon is everchanging. The wizard that rules it changes it on his whim, so maps are useless.

      In addition to what Enrico said, good luck - lots of monsters that live underground have some variation of blindsight or tremor sense!

    does Durnan get a cut of any treasure adventures bring back?

    • @JMS_Hunter
      @JMS_Hunter 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If I recall correctly. He charges 10 GP per adventurer. But if you as a DM want to. He most definitely can charge them a percentage of the finding

    I'm about to run WDH for crazy people, how do I keep them from going into the dungeon at level 1?

    • @seankopper2233
      @seankopper2233 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@LucasMoten What I ended up doing was during the Troll encounter I had it fall back down the well and damage the structure. So Durnan has the shaft closed for repairs

      My advice. Just let them go. If they die they die. But lessons will be learned.

    Sometimes I think that all dnd lore like this is just stuff that happened at the game table in WotC’s office that they’re selling for a living.

  • @starwall8755

    So wait, does Dragon Heist have prepared content on what's IN undermountian? Or do we have to do that ourselves?

    • @Loalrikowki
      @Loalrikowki 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You could try to find the Expedition to Undermountain megadungeon book from 3rd edition. Lots of good resources in there.

    • @EditorOrion
      @EditorOrion 6 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      The undermountain would easily be its own book. Maybe a few levels of it such as skullport, but there's way way too much lore and detail there to be encapsulated with Dragon Heist.

    • @madhatterhimself181
      @madhatterhimself181 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      There has been references to activities taking place "beneath" the city of Waterdeep in the Stream.
      However, any such activities would likely not get any deeper than Skullport.

      they just announced that there is second book that is basically part 2 of Dragon Heist and it's is literally just Undermountain. it's Dungeon of the Mad Mage and is meant to take players who finish Dragon Heist around level 5 all the way from level 6 to level 20. And it's all in the endless dungeons of Undermountian.

    • @fudgethemonkey3980
      @fudgethemonkey3980 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Starwall no, there’s another book which is a sequel to the 1-5th adventure that is Dragon Heist, called Dungeon of the Mad Mage.

    I would love to see a story like this again. Sadly I have the feeling the writing of the official DnD have turned into something too friendly, colorful and inclusive. We need something real, darker, scary.
