I also just got a gbd h1000, which is almost the same watch, just in a different form and with GPS & HRM. Looking forward to getting my gbx100 and I'll keep my eye on your channel for more tips.👍🏻

    There's a lot of positive. The watch is beautiful to look at. The MIP display is something I've been waiting for Casio to put on a watch since like 2014 when my coworker showed me his Pebble (remember pebble?) for clarity, viewing angle, low light viewing, etc. And tbh I assume this will be something Casio adds to MORE watches in the future, because there's too much "crap" on this one. Maybe surfers want a tide graph and workout counter etc; I'd just want solar/mb6/led backlight/5 alarm/cdt/basic WATCH functions with the good display. LIke if they made my G9300 Mudman with a MIP display, I'd buy it now.
    Still, sorry to bitch. The watch rules. I can't wait to see more MIP displays. It's awesome.

    Of course we can't be sure what the designers thought, but the hassle to view notifications can be related to: every "classic" smartwatch is just a tool to decide if you have to take out your smartphone or not, you actually can't do anything more on the watch (generally speaking), so you just decide if it's important enough to take out your phone or not, and that's it.

    Your'e quite right about this watch. Explanatory review like others shows all the features. I was thinking of getting this model for just two reasons. The MIP visibility (so clear!) and the fact it has a vibe alarm. I am hearing impaired. I have a GD 350 which has the vibration feature, but it isn't very strong after 5 years. I thought the GBX might be better, but you didn't dwell on it. I don't like all the other complicated features, especially if you say the access is complex and somewhat inaccurate. I won't be ordering this one.

  • @philipjanes

    Good review. The only con for me really is no solar power. Perhaps they'll do that later but it looks like most of the real estate on that display is for info. Most of those functions I won't use. Oh, yes the inability to read a notification quickly stinks too. But I ordered mine 2 days ago. Very excited.

      Why do you worry about solar?

    • @user-kc1tf7zm3b
      @user-kc1tf7zm3b 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Considering that a battery is stated to be good for two years, it would be fair to say that many owners will only effect the single battery service at the end of 2 years. Twenty four months afterwards, many owners will decommission their GBX-100s due to obsolenece and the aversion of the cost associated with a Casio workshop battery service.

    • @user-kc1tf7zm3b
      @user-kc1tf7zm3b 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Solar is a fundamental and compelling benefit as there are essentially no battery replacement services to worry about. Many Casio watches are solar for this reason.

    I just got this watch. The video was great to help setting it up in addition to the manual. It’s a shame that this is such a high feature watch yet the date can’t be switched around like on my 5600 Square G. The lag is also a bit of an issue. I do like the tide, moon phase and step counter, as well as the MIP display making a negative screen finally readable. Shame it’s not solar but battery swaps every two years isn’t an issue.
    I haven’t used the app. And I won’t. I don’t really see why I need to create an account when my Mudmaster has an app that’s fast, easy to use and doesn’t need to sign into anything.

    Great review, very informative :) I wish they made this watch a bit more of a classic G Shock tool watch but with some extra neat features and a bit less smart watch-y. The step counter and sun/moon/tide options are awesome new editions to the classic 5600 style of watch that Id gladly pay extra for. But just give me those features with a classic simple scroll through with one push of a button to cycle modes. I find myself annoyed that the watch seems to have many bloatware type features and all this menu/settings navigation, and app compatibility most of which just isnt necessary aside from setting tide location and even that could be remedied by just having a simple coordinate input. There needs to be some sort of in between option for people who just want a couple extra features in their classic style G Shock. All features regarding bluetooth should just not be present at all imo and it feels more like a marketing gimmick than anything. Do away with notifications entirely, they clearly suck and it would be far easier, faster and less of a nuisance to just take my phone out of my pocket than use the watch for that. Do away with the time sync, etc. Instead give me the better non-bluetooth, no notifications or smartphone gimmicks battery life and a 6 band time sync, since its just straight up better and works without any finicky efforts. Other than that it seems like an awesome watch concept overall and Im glad theyre putting effort into more unique and technologically advanced options for people who love the reliability and form factor of the classic G Shock but seek some useful extra features, I just think they went a little too far in trying to pack too many new features into an already proven form factor and shouldve stuck with simple tools/fitness features rather than trying to appeal to the smartwatch market. They could easily have made something more along the lines of what I wish this was at a slightly lower price point and then seperately made an actual dedicated smartwatch type design with say some basic touchscreen gestures, bluetooth connectivity w/ app and a host of other features at a higher price point to satisfy that market instead of trying to make both at the same time, because this iteration I dont feel succeeds in either category. Instead it does a little bit of everything but does nothing particularly well. Its too clumsy and bloated with all of its menus and features that arent particularly useful to live up to the basic tool watch design of past 5600 G Shock and lacks enough functionality and ease of use to live up to a true smartwatch design.
    *Btw as an American I deeply apologize to everyone else on Earth who uses the metric system and day/month/year system. Everything would be simple and uniform globally if we decided to use the objectively better systems. We deserve to be buried 1.8288 meters deep. If its supposed to be a surfing watch its going to be in the water a lot, one wouldn't want to have to open it up every couple years, or less than two years if you use the training functions. Great review. It's strange that they don't show the 100th/s of seconds in the stopwatch after you stop the timing. This would at least give you a bit more precision without needing the display to show it live. I also wonder if a standard square G-Shock combi bracelet would fit this case as they are awesome and I put one on my GWM5610.

      @@SoBek49 I love tough solar. Don't forget those are highly water resistant watches : 20 bars. You are far better not opening it.
      Also with negative displays I love to use the backlight without caring about battery..... tough solar is really handy.
      You don't really have to care about running out of battery with tough solar even without any light it will still run month long.
      I work at night mainly, I use the backlight a lot, the watch (gwb5600) really doesn't benefit from much light.....still has no issue with battery.

    I got the new gbd 100 with the same display and menu and I ended up sending it back. I hated that the button layout was different than most GShocks, the alarms were clunky with no way to set it up on weekdays vs weekends, one time, etc., and the app was next to useless. Also, on the watch there were too many steps to be able to change a setting. Back to the GD350 I go.

    Thanks for your two videos about this new model, and for pointing out the cons as well as the pros.
    If you select a port in the Southern Hemisphere, does the moon phase graphic flip horizontally (left for right) as it should? If not, this is a con for those living south of the equator. Models from 2010 like the GWX-5600 and GW-9110 do have the option to set the moon phase orientation for Southern Hemisphere locations.

    • @WatchingCasio

I don't want to pay for features I'll never use like bluetooth, step checker, moon phases etc. Battery killers. My suggested simple version would have 3-4 times the battery life.
