When seeing this video I was afraid I made my purchase of the VL150 too early... That godox now came out with either a better, or cheaper alternative. I'm happy to see that that's not the case for my particular setup. However I might consider an sl150 mk ii as my next light.
@@geraldundone to conclude on a budget the sl 150 II and fv 150 are close budget here in India, and normally I shoot 80% video and 20% product photography so what should i opt for considering budget is a constraint, as I have no plans for buying a flash light additionally as of few months or half a year so what should I choose
Perspiration is an active mechanism that your body uses to defend itself from overheating. If the ambient temperature is lower than temperature inside of your lungs, then the body is cooling itself by moving air in and out. No electric fans are required.
I picked up the VL300 based on your last review, and I'm very glad I did. The UL looks like exactly what I need as the next piece of my lighting puzzle. Thank you for yet another superb review.
I bought 2 VL150s based on your review in April and honestly cannot be happier! Thank you for paying attention to these affordable lights to help those of us who can't afford Aputure's gear.
I’ve only just watched the older April video. This is really helpful. As i don’t know much about lights, it’s a minefield of numbers trying to figure out what’s worth it. This, and the previous video, has made choosing much more straight forward
I literally just ordered the VL150 a few days ago and saw this video and was like, 'aw shucks, I should've waited!'. But now, after watching your video, I'm still going to stick with the VL150 because the fan noise won't be too much of an issue for me, plus it's smaller and comes with a case, which is a huge plus! Love your videos, Gerald. You've taught me so much.
Excellent comparison as always. I was looking at the VL150 based on your previous video but the UL150 is definitely the best choice for me now as I prefer no noise. Great video! Thank you for the comparison as it really helps.
Great video Gerald! Been looking at your COB videos for sometime and looks like the UL-150 is the light that finally checks the boxes I’ve been looking for. Thank you and please keep the great content coming!
Fantastic works as always Gerald. I've been recommending your channel to the course participants on Ali Abdaal's Part-time TH-cam Academy course. We have Bhav as one of the peer supporters and it was super nice to see you on her podcast!
A few questions 1. At the end of the day with money not being an issue would you choose Aputure over Godox 2. Does the 300D also give off that warmer green tint and the VL200/300 give off that cooler magenta tint? Thanks for your time and love your content!
Another great, video with a lot of useful information for people trying to decide between the various Godox models or between the Aputure and the Godox lights. Thanks, Gerald😊
This information-density is outstanding. As a newb sometimes a bit overwhelming but also sparks that nerdy passion for technical details. Love it! Probably gonna go for the UL150, because the fact that it produces the best accuracy at no noise is just outstanding. Are there even any downsides to it compared to anything else in this pricerange??
I just got two of these today and I can say already I think they are fantastic. I used these to replace two Fiilex P360s what’s great about them, apart from no noise, is that I can run them well below full-power and they are barely warm so no noise and very little heat.
Great review as always! Will you do an "endurance" test with these lights, to see how the UL stacks up, if temperatures build up - get too high, and if this may make it prone to last less than the fan powered counterparts?
fwiw, ran my new ul 150 for 1 hr at 100% , with the light at about a 70degree angle, and no overheat warning came on. saw a bhphoto review sayin the overheat warning only came on when pointed directly up at the ceiling. totally vertical. and even in that review, the guy said he was buying another ul 150 bcoz silent operation and output for the price.
Nice review! It’s getting hard to keep up with the release schedule of the lights. It’s nice to have so many options as long as we do some research to see which light has the features we need for our work
So glad I found this. Recently upgraded the fan on the sl60w I purchased and the temperature is rising to 125 ish vs the 109. I'm going to have to replace it again with a better version, but the next upgrade definitely looks like the ul150.
I wish there was a good comparison online between the Godox lights and the Intellytech Pocket Cannon Fresnels. I know they are different types of lights, but the Intellytech lights look super solid and are based in Denver.
I bought two SL200 II's on sale for $ 350 each and I'm very happy with these devices i dont need expensive pack of V-Mount battery's and external power supply`s Built in power supply is great option for me But sad - no carry bag :(
I’m super impressed how far Godox has went to establish them self on the stage of Video Lights.. I just wished Godox would release their padded case for single purchase.. Anyone with a SL 150W II with some what louder fans?
Godox is really taking on the challenges of providing professionals the tools they need. One question -- how would lights of this wattage mix with direct sun to either lighten shadows or provide a keylight when the sun is backlighting the subject? Is 150W enough, or would you need a 300W light for this?
Love the show man. Q: What light are you using for the wall spot behind you? (Perfect spread) BTW: I often have your intro jingle stuck in my head during shoots. Pretty funny/annoying/ahhhhhhh/stop moments
I've been looking at these lights recently, thank you for making a review and comparison. Too bad the 2 new lights are not available here yet and VL150 currently out of stock. I think I'm gonna pick up VL150 once it's available, we can consider the $60 price difference is for the bag and battery option also compact design, so it will be lighter on top of a light stand.
My favorite feature of the original Godox SL lights is that they don't have any annoying power bricks or control boxes. Just plug them in and turn them on.
Dude. I literally JUST had the VL150 delivered from Amazon today. Haven't even opened the box yet. 😂 I'm looking forward to setting it up and testing it out here soon. But since you have more experience with both the VL150 and UL150... if $40 weren't an issue, would you return the VL150 and get the UL150, or is the fan noise not that noticeable on the VL anyway. I do mainly vlogs and interviews, so keeping it to 45% should be okay... but if the VL noise is an issue, then $40 more for a light that I'll have for years is nothing. Thanks for another great vid!
It's not crazy loud even when it's on. But I would just test the VL150 while you have it. Do you need it quieter and brighter at the same time and don't mind giving up the carrying case? Get the UL. If not, keep the VL, it's great too.
