As a Saudi woman I know Abaya is not a rule for everyone but we love seeing foreigners respecting and trying our culture, I think that’s a nice thing ❤🇸🇦
Guys this has been the most helpful video on abayas and female expat clothing in Saudi I have seen!!!! I'm moving to Riyadh in a month and felt so lost until now, seriously. Haha, thank you so much!!! ❤️
You have a beautiful channel btw , the new laws does not require any woman to wear abbaya and it’s becoming more clear in public places now a days and people getting used to it so you don’t really have to worry about covering yourself in saudi anymore
31) And tell the believing women to reduce [some] of their vision[990] and guard their private parts and not expose their adornment[991] except that which [necessarily] appears thereof[992] and to wrap [a portion of] their headcovers over their chests and not expose their adornment [i.e., beauty] except to their husbands, their fathers, their husbands' fathers, their sons, their husbands' sons, their brothers, their brothers' sons, their sisters' sons, their women, that which their right hands possess [i.e., slaves], or those male attendants having no physical desire,[993] or children who are not yet aware of the private aspects of women. And let them not stamp their feet to make known what they conceal of their adornment. And turn to Allāh in repentance, all of you, O believers, that you might succeed.
Haram means Sin 90% of the time, only other time it can be used is as a way of saying "What a shame". Definitely nothing to do with temptation or not having you as Thea was saying!
Halal means permissible or allowed. Also as a man it’s also more respectful to wear at least a T-shirt and definitely not a tank top and shorts should be at least past your knee. Modesty is a concept for women AND MEN in Islam :)
I lived in the western region of Abu Dhabi and even there, foreigners did not have to wear the abaya. It was great. I never bought one or had any desire to wear one.
Could i ask do the same rules apply to Saudi women as to the approach your lovely girlfriend has towards dressing with Abayas? For example can Saudi women wear the shorter abayas out with maybe easy fit jeans, or is it stricter for them? Many thanks for the video.
As a Saudi woman a will answer you, the rules are for everyone, Saudi woman can go out in Saudi with not even wearing Abaya’s,It's just that you have to respect the general taste and culture and that your clothes are not naked.
I think what Thea was saying is that she wasn’t covered really at all and so this gentleman was surprised/shocked at that being the case. We were out in the sticks so what may be normal to city dwellers may not be for people living in more remote areas with very few tourists / if any.
Love the channel guys and thank you for the insights across the videos. @Pete, as a single expat guy who's exploring job offers in Riyadh, can you socialize with women at all? Having tattoos (a sleeve) I guess this would have to be covered with a long sleeve shirt at all times, even running or at beach?
Hey Peter, great name 😉 Thanks for reaching out. You absolutely can socialise with women - times have moved on significantly in the last few years and generally you’ll have no issues dating and hanging out with women. If with a Saudi woman you may get some looks, but if it is a strictly amicable relationship, it’ll be fine. Previously it was a big no-no, but now, even in Riyadh, it’s acceptable. Obviously, keeping PDA to an absolute minimum - holding hands with my gf has never been an issue for example. As for tattoos, again no issues. Whether in public or at the beach. Depending on your job - e.g. working with government could potentially require you to cover it up - but day to day it won’t cause you an issue. (Assuming it’s not profane!) Even Saudis are now wearing visible tattoos in public. No topless running outdoors either, it comes down to a matter of respect. As an expat you’ll have more leeway too, but on all occasions it’s best to respect the culture you’re living in and avoid doing anything that could be seen as disrespectful. Hope that helps?
@@petedoessaudi Thank you mate really appreciate the reply and insights, I've a couple of offers for work but the difference being accommodation included or an accommodation allowance, my question on rent, is it possible to pay monthly as opposed to annual lump sum as we would here in UK? Thanks again and now seems such an exciting time to make the move! :)
@@peterkilliard2842 absolutely no problem mate. Unfortunately all places I’ve come across charge either every 6 months or annually. Your job should offer you 6 months accommodation allowance up front. That’s what mine does as that payment system is commonplace here. Probably largely because it’s been frequent for expats to just up sticks and leave. If your job provides the accommodation that’s not such a bad thing. I lived in the compound my job provided for the first year and once I got a lay of the land in my second year I changed and took the allowance to find my own place.
I’d say anything over 400 SAR is expensive, but it obviously depends on what you’re after. There are definitely more fancy ones for evenings or events and then also ones which are more every day. To be honest, you don’t actually need an abaya anymore, so just baggier clothes are absolutely fine.
Hi there 🌸 I saw your TH-cam channel. If you don’t mind giving some advice 🌸 I recently received a job offer in Riyadh and wanted to know if my partner could move with me. I heard it takes 90 days for your spouse to be vetted before he can come over , and you can’t live together if you not married . Any insight will be much appreciated thank you!!

I am Saudi woman in Riyadh. And I don’t wear abaya and have no problem
Me too, will be in Riyadh in the next quarter n this is good info reassuring. Thanks!
Not only Muslim women wear hijab, some Jewish and Christian sects impose women to wear hijab, too
Man Pete how do I keep in shape like you in Saudi as a female? My new life is all about my strength.

Respect the laws and don't go half naked.

Hey Ahmed, thanks for the correction! Now we’ll use it wisely 😬
Exactly!!
Haram means literally “forbidden” or “not permissible” and it’s used for things that God specifically forbid
Halal means permissible or allowed.
Also as a man it’s also more respectful to wear at least a T-shirt and definitely not a tank top and shorts should be at least past your knee. Modesty is a concept for women AND MEN in Islam :)
@@petedoessaudi Nope. Haram means Forbidden. Zanb is sin.
