looking at the BMW e46 and the alfa, the lexus looks still very modern and stood well the test of time.
but only 2 engines in Europe (2.0 - 155 hp and 3.0 - 217hp but only with auto gearbox ...)
the E46 has lots more options when it comes to engines
This is completely true. I'm talking only about the looks. That 3.0 engine though is an absolute beast :)
Yes it looks great, if not better than the E46, aged better for sure !
In fact before buying my 520i E34, i looked at this 1st Gen Lexus IS.
If only swapping engines and gearbox was legal in France !

Did it have that 'Seek pi' thing that came up when there was a radio station with moving RDS? All the Toyota radios went "Beep" and it said 'Seek pi' randomly when I was listening to pirate stations and it turned it over to a BBC station. That was EXTREMELY annoying!!
Best car ever. I'm on my third one, it still looks contemporary today.

@@6r711 I miss mine, I have a 2014 GS350 now, but nothing will ever be the IS300
Dawg I've had mine for 20 years, it's got 140,000 miles on it and the only thing I've replaced is the auto box after 110,000+ miles and the thermostat, it's bulletproof but a bit thirsty, 28/30 mpg, although most of that is in London which isn't ideal for high mpg. It's comfortable, incredibly reliable and will probably outlast me, the shame is that it's not ULEZ compliant so, as I live in London, I'm going to have to sell it.
Cheap to buy, run and insure. Loads of refinement including leather seats, sunroof, electric seats ect... Plus they produce good power and handle fantastically, thanks to them being rear wheel drive.
Interesting thing is if you look at a 2000 Lexus IS200, Audi A4, BMW 3 series - their looks have all have aged extremely well

Beautiful. Shame he didn't give it some revs at some point though, the engine in these cars make such a gorgeous noise, puts a huge smile on my face every time I hear it.
I agree they have the best sounding engine I have heard I could listen to them all day!

10babiscar It has but you can turn it off, just one button, on or off. It's got snow mode too but I'd never drive a car in the snow unless it was a subaru or evo with snow tires =P

What did make the IS200 a really superb car? BMW vanos and Fiat Group 'customer service'.
No wonder they are still on the road everywhere 21 years running !

Back in 2000 it wasn't ''that bad'' navigation inside a car was not a main public thing back then. And you couldn't buy aftermarketkits for 300 bucks like you can do today.

How was it a 318i and a 2 litre ? Its either a 320i for it to be a 2 litre or a 1.8 litre 318i
@@tino897 no it was e46 318i 2 litre n46 engine. The 318i were all 2.0 litre apart from the 1998 to 2001 318i m43 which had a 1.9litre.

I've just bought one as a comfy runabout an my 2018 small shopping car is shit for comfort and I suspect it will become shitter with a couple more years on it.
On the other hand I've fallen in love with this IS, its comfy, quick if you use the revs and will sit happily mile after mile on the motorway, it also has the best music system in a car I've ever had and cost me a grand in the UK, low miles, FSH but road tax and fuel economy let it down slightly.
He forgot to mention it'll do rings for days on a slab 😆

2100 for sat nav that's expensive I mean today you can get the whole car inc the sat nav for £2000 or in some point cheaper. But obviously back then it was a new car which costed 21k to 23k which still not bad for a brand new car. This is my dream car and future car that I want, I already what it but problem is that I'm a new driver and insurance is so expensive on these even for an se model. But once I get 2 to 3 years of no claims it should be cheap.

@@omanosPL unfortunately no as I'm on my 2nd year now hopefully one day, for me the car isn't the issue go get issue is insurance as it comes around 4k and for me 3 or 4k is alot for insurance its alot for anyone becoz insurance is basically waste of money I rather put that much money and buy a good condition low mileage is200 instead.

That is the Japanese version but they had the choice of getting the 4cyl beams or just the standard 6cyl and it was only sold the Japanese market however alot of them were imported to many other countrys

They should make iS F with 2jz-gte bach than, it would eat m3 alive and wee would have successful F line now.
many people in the world make the is300 turbo or for more power or swap the 2jz GTE from supra or some people also swap the 1UZ or 3UZ V8 from the LS and GS
@@theojuan834 Yeh, but it wasn't a factory option when it really mattered. They had a perfect opportunity to build up Lexus Status and reputation and they blew it. Hell, they are doing the same thing right now, they don't use their cool engines and platform. Actually they were more upmarket back than, now they are just cheap luxury.

@@tino897 I prefer the BMW E46 over the lexus, but the alfa is a bad car: the boot was small, it was small inside, unsafe and really bad equipment for an alfa
