I'm lucky to own #282 off the production line. Built in May 2001 and used as a demonstrator car for the dealership. For a 19 year old car it's aged very well compared to other cars from this era. Reliability on the other hand is quite something else. In the past 2 years I've had to spend over £4000 on parts such as the gearbox, clutch, a new engine..... but it still puts a massive smile on my face! The Y reg minis will most definitely become a classic sometime in the future hence why I am keeping the car
I recently bought a 2013 Cooper S (R55) two months ago. So far so good. Extremely maintained by two previous owners, people think its a 2020 model. Only thing I've had to replace were the spark plugs around 56k miles which is around the 60k miles spark plug change quoted in the manual. Always a smile on my face in this car.
Yooo ive got mine the same exact time as you, sadly mine was treated like a piece of shit. It has a shitty wrap on it, its actually the same color as the one in this video underneath the wrap
I had a 2005 Mini Cooper as a first car, fun little thing to drive. Sad I had it sold because ya know, being a BMW car, it was ridden with problems and leaks, had it sold.
DONT DO IT! I had the same urge, so I got a 2nd gen (R56) Cooper S. Worst decision I've ever made, and I've made some bad decisions. The engines in these cars are the most unreliable POS ever, just do a search for the problems these cars have, and you wont want one as badly.
+acousticpsychosis Alas, it's true. I got a 2003 model Mini One 1.6 as my first car last year; it's fantastic in every way to drive, better acceleration than most of my mates cars and can corner faster too. But in that one year I've had to replace the radiator, clutch, wheel bearings, brakes and entire exhaust system. The problems only get worse with the original minis, but at least you can pretty much fix anything on them with a hammer and some scrap metal.
I have a 2003 Mini with a Midlands 5-speed. It shifts smoothly and quietly.. No problems with the transmission.. I did have the fuel pump replaced a few years ago, and problems with the door lock system. Other than that, it is a lot of fun to drive and still looks good and runs great in 2024......Had no problems at all with the engine. The 112 H.P. 4 seems durable, and is trouble free....
Choose 10 million people and have them choose a BMW mini or Original mini brand new. Most will chose the new fatter , faster, better interior and BMW over the original .
Peter Stahl I don't care. The car is the size of a golf. That's not a little car. Mini means little doesn't it. Sadly the American designer of this thing is an idiot.
+Simone J Stogrin Try fitting the equipment needed to make a modern car design street-legal on the original Mini's dimensions and have enough room left over for a driver and passenger(s).
I have 2003 Mini Cooper R53. It still look and work awesome.
stfu

What was an engine swap like? I’d imagine very expensive, but does it feel the same?
@@MrJaymzt1 feels the same as my old engine to be honest (before my head gasket went) only cost me £300 for the engine and £300 to have it fitted
I have a 1st Oct 2001 Mini Cooper. Very cool cars

I had a Mini Cooper R50, enjoyed every moment with it
excellent reviewer, and i love the color
One of the few cars Hammond hasn't crashed :D
An everlasting ICON.
Anyone here from the latest drivetribe video?
So this is pre Top Gear then.
+Sebastian Rosenberg
Not really. TopGear was running from 1977.
This would have been on a satellite channel.
Richard Hammond started on Top Gear in 2003.
I want a mini so badly
+Aled Wilson-Jones I do so i can park it in my girlfriends garage.

I really want want minicooper there my favourite cars 🥺
I'm waiting to pick up a 03 with 131000 miles. It has an overheating issue.
"the interior is well put together"
yeah. sure.
SAM M NAOGHBER HAVE A MINICOOPER S 2004
Efsane araba mini Cooper
This car has aged like Hammond, 😂 I know he uses hair dye and teeth whitener, but still, aged well 😂
These cars are fun to drive and all, but the reliability is absolutely shit. I hope you like replacing timing chains.
The new mini then looked big for a mini. Now the R50 looks like one of the smallest cars in the road. Not that there are many
IT SIMYLA MINICOOPER 2009 LIKE FOS CAR
I like the old Mini much better, because it was actually small and fit the name. The new 'Mini' is big and shit.
oh my god the camera work is awful I've got a seasick from all those fast cuts and wobbling...
Me with my 2003 ford galaxy : dat ting is tiny!!!!
Top Gear used to be much more witty!
This isn’t top gear
Hmm if only it was a bmw engine, and if only the gearbox wasn't made in the Midlands...

I suppose you could consider it "mini" in America.
