    Super excited about this scale! As a Flair user but long-time Decent fan, I’ve been wanting to use the Smart Espresso profiler app but haven’t been able to justify the expense of an Acaia or similar scale. I imagine the scale will be compatible with the app, and will allow me to get similar data out of my shots as if I had a Decent :)

    How does this scale work for pour over? I'm worried that it'd be hard to see the numbers on the scale since the screen doesn't face upwards like other scales. Otherwise it's fantastic scale that works brilliantly with the DE machines at a fraction of the price of an Acaia scale.

    • @decentespresso
      @decentespresso  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Pour over vessels often block the scale display on top, so I'm hoping it'll work better than most, since the display is not blocked. Also... you might use a Pour Over app, which echoes the weight.

    • @AnonymousSam
      @AnonymousSam 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@decentespresso ah that's a good point, I could see how larger pour over vessels would obstruct top facing displays. Any chance we could get a quick video of the Decent scale being used for pour over? If I know it would work well for pour over it'd make me never consider getting an Acaia scale again lol

    Hi do you need to tare the scale again before starting the shot? I don't see the need personally because you are measuring the rate of change. Please correct me if I am wrong.

    • @decentespresso
      @decentespresso  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope, the DE1 tells the scale to tare on espresso start.

    Any benefit over the Acaia Lunar scale for people who already have it?

    • @TheSpok66
      @TheSpok66 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      probably not. It is just cheaper and as long as the lunar works fine for you there wont be any improvement. For new people though the lunar does not justify the higher price compared to the decent scale.

      If you're wondering "how does this scale compare to the competition", my answer is:
      - It's an open-scale, meant to be supported by a wide variety of apps. In a few months, I hope you'll be able to find a large number of apps that work with it. The API is open decentespresso.com/decentscale_api and we're sending free scales to programmers of apps on the ios and android stores.
      - It's got a very waterproof design, with no openings at all from the top of sides. That includes the USB port, which is on the bottom, and not on the side, unlike some competing scales.
      - It has a vertical LED and vertical buttons, which are not blocked when you put a large vessel on the top of the scale. Most competing scales have their LEDs and buttons on top, and a large vessel (such as if you use this for baking) will obstruct them.
      - And it's less expensive than many competing scales, at USD$99.
      - More about the scale hardware at this video: th-cam.com/video/IpjN_FzjUW8/w-d-xo.html

      @@decentespresso Interesting. I use the acaia lunar with my Flair 58 (I was sorely tempted by the Decent, but we have limited counterspace!). Works quite well, but if it brushes the side of the machine at all it throws off the measurement.

    • @cybernessful
      @cybernessful 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@flashdy to be honest, I did have any issues with Luna unless there is a really noticeable vibration, looks like they made a good job on compensating it with software. But it costs more than twice of Decent Scale.

    I feel like they need to work on the aesthetics of their scales, as much as I love to get it for the functionality, it's extremely hard justify having a cheap digital clock looking thing sitting around my coffee counter.
    I am pretty sure Decent knows people cares will pay for aesthetic, that's why the white DE1 is more expensive than the black counterpart.
