"Halloween 2018 _is_ Halloween Ends to me."
I'm so glad I'm not alone in this. We didn't need a trilogy, we just needed one solid film with well-written characters, fun kills, and some semblance of decent suspense. Michael died in that fire, nuff said.

I agree. Even though I don’t care too much for 2018, I have to admit that climax was way more satisfying and should have ended there. I really love that last shot of Michael looking up at 3 generations of the Strodes knowing he is defeated as the flames begin to engulf him. And while yes there are technically moments in Ends that can come across as supernatural, it didn’t really feel like anyone treated it as a big deal. Micheal Myers being supernatural seemed like an afterthought

It just reeks of studio interference if you ask me in that regard.

      @Sam-zu5mr 2 ปีที่แล้ว +9

Did you find(as I did)...Micheal had been turned into a GERIATRIC- incapable of fighting off Cory(the town wimp) and 60yr old Laurie. Is this the same Michael Myers from the last movie who was unstoppable. Then was it me or does this film nod to the IT film, as the bad guy was hiding down a sewer the whole time. Then is it too much of a stretch to see the accidental child killer, befriend Laurie, date her granddaughter...to then slowely become exactly as Michael is and as the town was accusing him of being(a killer) The whole film to me, seems laughably bad for a FINALE of such a loved franchise. With the main antagonist reduced to such a pathetic figure, to be thrown by the town in a shredder....just alittle disappointing in such a crucial film to end things on. The only timeline really that works is Halloween 78’, Halloween II 81’, and then H20 in 98’. That is a storyline where we see Laurie go through all the trauma but 20 years later she is actively trying to move on in her life. Yes she still has flashes of Michael, but she actually moves out of town, changes her name, becomes a teacher, has a son, etc. And it actually has a badass ending where she kills him! In these new movies they try to do that same thing but try to pass it off as “different” and “more realistic.” In Halloween 18’ she’s apparently so scarred from the events of 40 years ago that she never moved from Haddonfield, her own daughter hates her, and she is a weird, off-brand Sarah Conner. She complained about her only being in a hospital bed in Halloween II, but yet in Halloween Kills she’s also in a hospital bed for most of the run time giving these Loomis lines about how Michael is brute force and you can’t kill him 🤦🏽‍♂️. Alternative movie plot: it’s been 4 years, Laurie has been hunting Micheal by following unsolved murders in the surrounding area of haddonfield. Laurie connects a string of murders that fit Micheal M/O. She follows the clues till she figure out Micheal is heading home for Halloween.
In the years since Micheal has become a crime icon (movies and docs about his crimes are mainstream, he is glorified as “the most prolific serial killers”) and is the popular costume this Halloween, everyone wants to dress up as Micheal.
Halloween night begins and Micheal begins his rampage by killing a imposter Micheal and taking his mask to blend in. Laurie finds Allison (she has been trying to move on since the death of her parents) she tells Laurie that some college kids are throwing a Micheal myers party/haunted house at the myers house.
Micheal is already there rampaging through the house. Partygoers don’t know what’s real or fake (many people are dressed as Micheal) Laurie and Allison confront Micheal there for a climatic battle. Laurie and Micheal stab each other multiple times, Allison gets knocked out by Micheal. Micheal starts to overpower Laurie, as Micheal is strangling Laurie Allison stabs him in the back, freeing Laurie they over power him together and continue to stab him until he is a bloody mess. The camera cuts to micheals pov (same as the beginning of the first movie when he murdered his sister) and you see Laurie and Allison continuing to stab him as his breathing and vision slowly fades to black

Halloween Ends was a big let-down and a sorry excuse to end the Halloween saga. Why was Michael hiding in the sewers like Pennywise? Why was Michael so weak? At the end of Halloween Kills, after Michael kills like half the town, it’s hinted that he gains strength the more he kills. Did they drop this plot? And even if they did drop it, that doesn’t explain why he hides in the sewers for 4 years. Michael only kills 2 people in this movie, Allyson’s cop ex and the ginger nurse. Is that the lowest kill count Michael has had in a Halloween movie?
Corey was just awful, not a compelling villain. I didn’t feel sympathetic for him, he was just a wimp. Also, the bullying he went through was really over-the-top.They ruined Allyson’s character and turned her into a stereotypical, grief-struck, troubled, young lovebird, when in the previous two films she’s shown to be much stronger than that. Did the director of this movie have a fetish for Andi Matichak’s hands? Granted, they’re pretty hands, there were several close-up, lingering shots of them, which was really fucking weird.
So after being established as the next villain and basically taking the place of Michael during this movie, Corey decides to kill himself…because Laurie said he can’t date Allyson? WTF? The epic, climactic battle, 44 years in the making…Laurie Strode vs. Michael Myers! The final duel lasts 30 seconds and Michael goes out wimpier than Corey. Again, WTF?
Michael’s funeral procession scene was rushed and to be honest, a tad cringey. Why were so many of the kills cutaway kills? The previous two films did not shy away for showing the kills on-screen. Did this have something to do with Peacock not wanting the movie as gory? The final shot should have been Laurie and Allyson, not Laurie and her cop boyfriend.

My theory is that Danny McBride and David Green had a killer pitch for one, maybe two Halloween movies that could act as a definitive end to the story and then the studio told them to make it a trilogy so a whole bunch of uninteresting and seemingly unrelated stuff got shoved in to pad the runtime.

I was living in New Jersey and I remember seeing that movie around October when the leaves were starting to change and I hadn't seen that many Halloween movies then .so it was nice to see a Halloween movie in the actual theaters even though I saw it by myself. It was overall a great , enjoyable movie that did a great job capturing the essence of not just the Halloween movies but more then that, the feeling of fall time and October, which i always loved that feeling of that time of year living up North. Both in NJ and in my home state of Ohio. Glad that Jermany seems enjoy this movie more than last years one. I'll admit, "Halloween kills "was not the best Halloween mostly because of the hospital scenes , but I will say , that movie I think definitely had best iteration and look of Michael Myers. Society creating a monster, I could get on board with and expected there to be a new face behind the mask at the end and a new generation of Halloween movies for newer audiences…until everything just stopped. Once that end fight scene ended (which was really well done, that was tense) and it was over, is when I had the same feeling as you stated about this film having two very different ideas. They had a cool ending (kind of?) but no solid ground to connect it with.

I thought a better fit would’ve been in the third act. Since they hinted at the supernatural in Halloween kills I thought Michael would slowly be transferring his conscience on to Cory and every time Cory killed he would become stronger and start ignoring damage like Michael. Imagine at the end instead of Allison thinking Laurie killed Cory Allison never went there, instead she drives by the radio station and sees it burning and figures out that Cory is going on a killing spree. She goes to Laurie’s house and helps her kill Cory, Michael comes along and wounds Allison, and Michael and Laurie have their showdown with Laurie killing Michael but is dying from her wounds from Michael while Allison comforts her. Then it’s revealed that when Michael died his conscience fully transferred to Cory, healing his wound and bringing him back to life. When the cops arrive the only bodies they find are Laurie and Michael’s to Allison’s confusion. At the end of the movie they show a family inside of their house and outside holding a knife is Cory wearing his scarecrow mask. Boom a new villain is born
That would have made room for them to make new films about this new killer and move away from the Halloween title as a spin-off. Laurie got to kill Michael and now Allison has her own version to deal with using everything she’s learned from her grandmother. Or it could just be a new slasher film without Allison.

Honestly, the 2018 film could have easily been its own self-contained sequel that didn't need any followups, because it had an ending where there were essentially no loose ends (unless you count Cameron and the cop). That said, I found Kills to be fun in its own regard, and as a direct followup, it continued the story in a logical manner (before the mob started making stupid decisions). The real problem there was it was clearly a bridge movie meant as the middle chapter of a trilogy, meaning there had to be another one after it because it lacked closure. I realize Ends couldn't just be Laurie vs. Michael. Obviously, that's the climax, but to completely hide the entire story leading up to that was just false advertising. It didn't feel like the end of a trilogy, because the majority of what it revolved around was never established prior to that. Corey was not a pre-existing character. Ergo, having what felt like the majority of the story revolving around him didn't make sense. Worse still is the fact that Michael's role was so drastically reduced compared to the last two. He didn't even show up until about 40 minutes in with periodic appearances after that, and only truly gained focus during the climax. Overall, I didn't hate the movie. It had interesting ideas, and I could definitely buy into the message it was pushing about there being a bit of evil in all of us, which traumatic experiences can bring to the surface, but the trailer and ads never bothered showing any of that, and I feel the movie genuinely suffered for it. The ending was great, but everything leading up to that was just OK with a few bright spots in there.

The most honest spoiler free review of this film is:
The last 20 mins are cool and interesting enough for Halloween fans
The first hour and a half is an absolute waste of time focusing on an entirely new character that no fan after watching 12 movies across 40+ years would care about.

Movie was actually great all the way through. Just saw it and Jeremy is off the mark on this one. I enjoy his content as much as the next person but he was wrong with this one.

*SPOILER*? I just finished watching Halloween Ends. I'm sorry to say... the fight was not at all worth the watch. It was an easy defeat, Michael barely put up a fight.

The biggest things that irked me about this movie:
    1) Corey apparently teaming up with Michael Myers on a few of the kills. That seems so out of character for Michael to just go along with that.
    2) The fact that Michael was featured very little.
    3) Corey being able to somehow take Michael's mask away, then go around town pretending to be him and killing people. Hell, I think Corey had more kills than Michael in the movie. Pretty ridiculous.

Just watched this myself and I didn't hate it. But you sure are right about it feeling like 2 separate scripts squished together. It was way more of a character study and deep dive into the question "what is evil, where does it come from, and what can it do to us as an individual, as a group, and as a society? It also explores these way better than Kills did it's questions. I feel that the psychological/sociological side of the film was pretty solid, it just clashes with the, y'know, Halloween part of things. It's my least favorite of the newest trilogy. Kills is the worst "film" but it has more Michael, better kills, more entertaining side characters, and some really dumb but entertaining plot points (evil dies tonight, the angry mob confusing the escaped patient with Michael to name a couple)
