NO! I will NOT sit down to pee. NEVER! (Except some woman forces me to, but that's a different thing.) Waldeinsamkeit, wasn't there a story about two kids lonely in the woods with one of them almost getting eaten by a witch? And one about a girl, a grandma, and a wolf? The Brothers Grimm really knew how to describe Waldeinsamkeit.

I would not have translated Waldeinsamkeit that way. I think "solitude" is more appropriate than "loneliness". It's not about being lonely, it's about being one with yourself and nature
The 2nd one had to be the forest answer, because of Wald, and the third one had to be the chimney sweep, because it ended in meister, which is used at the end of a ton of German occupations, including mayor (I think), burgermeister or something......the other option wasn't an occupation.
I watched it and kind of like it as it was science fiction which is not my favorite genre. Chrisopher plays a good guy who creates Alita who aspires to be more than she is. The movie is for the younger generation to enjoy in my humble opinion. I recommend it to you. CW doesn't speak any German in it to the best of my recollection. He spoke French and Italian in Glorius Bastards, but that doesn't surprise me since many of you Europeans are multi-lingual which I am jealous of being mostly German myself but being born and raised here in the USA washed that all away after my grandparents passed away in my childhood. Forest loneliness?? Never that's heaven. But seriously Waltz is one of the best actors out there. That guy can sell a part and he could play almost anyone , not just German WW2 parts. Anybody at any time.
I've heard Feli and others say that the habit of German men to sit down to pee is a superior practice, but I think the fact that "Sitzpinkler" is used as an insult demonstrates that a)the current habit of German men to sit down is relatively new, and b) we American men need to continue standing up for all men of the world.
That was fun. I know just enough German to get myself in trouble, but, for instance, "keit" is a suffix (ity, ness) so just go with the answer that describes a feeling. I wonder if Christoph ever did or would want to do a comedy. His humor is dry, like you said, but hey, they did the Naked Gun movies with Leslie Nielsen where he delivered his lines straight, and they were either a double entendre or there were funny things happening around them. Props to whoever came up with the wrong answers (was it Waltz?), they were really funny.
Feli’s German language heritage slips into her English when she say, “That’s eleven letters only.” Putting the adjective after the noun it modifies was really common among military Germans I worked with in NATO. They all spoke excellent English and many had trained at our military schools in the US, but they usually retained at least a bit of an accent and occasionally an unusual (for American English) word order would slip in.
To answer your question. Yes. That is exactly what German sounds like to English speakers because English was partially durived from German and our brains ignore the parts that sound familiar and latch on to the sounds of the language which sound foreign to our ears. Gen Sch Vi Aus Ee and Oh in German are sounds that aren't commen in the English language so our ears pick up on it more and especially En because many German words end that we are frequently exposed to end it.
Seen that and I don't think it is funny, because Tom Hanks is simply spreading some of the biggest prejudices about our German Autobahn. So, nothing special because those prejudices already exist anyway.

You should check it out!
I'm not sure if Waltz is Alita's mentor or creator. The movie fuses traditional actors with CGI that looks more like it's from an anime. The movie is worth watching. There is a manga called Battle Angel Alita.
Maybe by "long German words" they meant German words that are really specific and long to describe when translated, rather than "long words" in relation to the number of letters or complexity of the compound wirds that make it up? I think that both stereotypes are common for the German language: there are the technically long words (based on number of letters/compounded words) and then there's the "German has a specific word that corresponds to a feeling that needs to be described with an entire sentence in English" type of long word and so for English speakers both amount to "long German words" just different meanings of long, based on whether we mean the long translation in English or the long word itself in German
Ich finde es toll und ein Zeichen von Größe, dass du dich da oben so in die Ecke quetscht! Leider ist das ja nicht der Standard. Es ist noch keine Minute um ... und du hast direkt ein Like von mir bekommen. Allein für das "in die Ecke quetschen". Mögest du Vorbild für alle diese anderen "Reation-Video-Futzis" werden..... und ja ... Waltz ist natürlich - an sich - episch. Seit "Django Unchained" bin ich Fan 🙂
I liked Alita. It was NOT a great movie, however, it was an enjoyable family movie. It didn't have any great surprises. I think it was designed for 8 - 14 year old range. The special effects were really good, first rate. The storyline was a little predictable. I would recommend it for family viewing. 😊😊
Is Austrian German different than true German? Like is it just a dialect thing or are there different words for the same thing? Same with Swiss German, much difference?
Austrian German consists out of multiple dialects spoken all througout Austria. The dialects are still really different and they do have some word that are different: Tomato is Tomate in High German but Paradeiser in Austrian. In Switzerland, it's pretty much the same thing. In High German, bicycle is Fahrrad and in Swiss German, it's a velo. Paradeiser comes from Italian and Velo from French and that's why they are so different. If Austrians and Swiss speak full on dialect, most Germans will not understand them. We might pick out a few words here and there but it's more guessing than actual understanding. I, personally, joke a lot around and say Austrian German is another language etc. They can understand us by the way, as everyone learns High German in school. There might still be a regional accent but you can still understand them. It's not just different words but they pronounce the words really different just like between different dialects inside of Germany. The grammar is sometimes different too.
It's a bit like British vs American English. Some words are different, but it's mostly differences in pronunciation. There are no problems with understanding each other if both people talk "standard" like you're taught at school (but there might be if one or both of them speak their local/regional dialect)
Yes, different words on top of the accent and also different grammar here or there, in Swiss German it's even more pronounced, people from the Northern half of Germany often have quite a bit of trouble understanding people from the South or from Austria, let alone Switzerland. The more distinct dialects are nearly unintelligible to me ...and I'm from SW Germany, less than 200 miles from the Swiss border.
What do you mean with true german? 😜 by the way today i took part in an online Qigong class and a guy from Bavaria had a heavy dialect, all austrians understood him more or less but another german from a more northern part said he did not understand a single word.
It is a very good manga adaptation movie. Especially that most of Hollywood manga adaptations suck. Watched it couple of times. Even my dad, who is not into it enjoyed the movie

Doppelkolbenfestsattelbremsanlage - double-piston fixed-caliper brake system ;)
Waldeinsamkeit did remember me directly to Hermann Hesse.
Christoph Waltz has the German-Austrian nationality. His father was German.
I liked Alita. It was NOT a great movie, however, it was an enjoyable family movie. It didn't have any great surprises. I think it was designed for 8 - 14 year old range.
The special effects were really good, first rate. The storyline was a little predictable. I would recommend it for family viewing. 😊😊
Walls are great. Everyone needs and has them
There is also a fun interview with Stephen Colbert - I recommend watching it as well
Is Austrian German different than true German?
Its actually a dialect. some words are totally different but the most are common, its very similiar to the bavarian dialect.
What do you mean with true german? 😜 by the way today i took part in an online Qigong class and a guy from Bavaria had a heavy dialect, all austrians understood him more or less but another german from a more northern part said he did not understand a single word.
Its a pretty good movie. Worth the watch.
He plays a good guy - the doctor who basically brings her back from the dead.
Jimmy Fallons show would have to air in 32:9 for Felis long german words
I heard him saying he doesn’t care about American football as “des is ma wuascht”😂
You should go on Fallon and give him a real challenge 😉
There's always the one I remembered from Top Gear, Doppelkupplungsgetriebe
Double clutch gearbox. It is only a compound word. But the presentation was hilarious, indeed.
Yes as an American, that is totally what German sounds like to me.
I love the German language! I wish i understood more of it.
It is a very good manga adaptation movie. Especially that most of Hollywood manga adaptations suck. Watched it couple of times. Even my dad, who is not into it enjoyed the movie
I love it when they have a German word in the Movie Alita and Waltz has to say it. The word is "Panzerkunst" and Christoph Waltz cringe everytime he has to say it. 😆
Watch the Movie, highly underated!
