- Our thoughts on EV-365’s day to day driver, the Rivian R1T.
We go over the vehicle, take it for a drive, and highlight how it’s been to own the truck for over a year while highlighting both the good and the bad.
Spoiler…we do really like it!!!
We got the Rivian R1T Quad-Motor with Large Pack Battery, El Cap Granite Paint with XPEL Stealth Wrap, and Black Mountain interior.

Great video, I am starting to think about buying a R1T, you mentioned on the video that a great deal will be to buy a used one….is there any list of recommendations what I should look in a used vehicle ? Should I look on the Rivian website for used ones ? I am the kind of guy that usually buys new ones cause I don’t know how people take care, charge….
I would go with a site like Carmax, Carvana or a dealership (Autotrader can help you find ones that have them in stock) where they certify their used cars and offer a guaranteed period to where you can return the car if not happy. Also, get one with the automatic tonneau cover even if it rivian has not fixed it yet. They will!
I bought Jiselle the Ioniq 6 in January and LOVE it for my 30 mile daily commute. However, that R3X (teal, orange highlights, palomino interior) is compelling (when it exists). I know from Hubby's R1T how easy it is to drive and the software etc. And now Rivian rates charging stations. Whaaat? All the auto manufacturers will adopt that. Steve uses the blue tooth speaker. Agreed, you don't need running boards at all. Hubby sold his 2001 F150 immediately after he bought the R1T. Steve has owned F150/F250s for 52 years. I think Conserve mode is bumpy ( if the road is bumpy as it always is in North Carolina). We don't have the DC adapter yet either. We did buy the destination charger adapter (Tesla to J1772) for hotel stays.
I’m looking at everything I can about the R1T/S since I’m trying to justify the price before i put down a deposit. Thank you, your presentation was well done and easy to listen to
Glad it was helpful!!! We are very happy with the Rivian!
We LOVE our 2023 Canyon Red R1T quad motor, large pack. We bought a leather holder for the key frob with bright yellow stenciling so we can read the buttons. We do not have a tonneau cover either. We use water-proof bins for stuff now. We store tools in the locked storage. My husband removed the aerocovers immediately. He wants to buy the bright sport wheels but has to save his pennies for that. He is going to buy after market lipped floor mats because he goes to Carolina Beach and OBX a lot.
Canyon red is beautiful!!!
We won after market screen protectors in a raffle at the Rivian Stories Soon camping trip in South Carolina. They work great!
Hubby bought an after market Sun roof cover. A must is North Carolina.
I just leased a dual motor performance and love it. We also have Tesla cars. It’s something different and that’s what’s great about it
Congrats! Did you get the dual motor on the R1T or the R1S? Honestly, I think the dual motor is perfect for 90% of the people out there!
@@EV-365 thanks, I got the R1T. the difference between dual motor and performance was like $1 per month according to the estimates, so i just go the performance. been wanting a truck for so long. we have a model x plaid and model y performance as well.
@@sherwinm that’s one heck of a garage!!!
I'm thinking about getting the R1T but I'm nervous about if the company will go under and the Consumer Reports score on the Rivian. Thoughts? Any big issues?
There is always risk with startups going under, but I think Rivian is being run well. They just got an influx of incentives from Illinois and Amazon is involved as well.
The consumer report was interesting because it was all around public charging which I think has more to do with the charging providers than EVs in general. They were at the tops of loyalty scores which means he people spending money on them, are loving them. As a Rivian and s Fisker owner...I've seen both sides!
How is cleaning the stealth ppf compared to regular paint?
It’s easy to wipe things off of it. Much easier than on paint. I use a cleaner that I got from Xpel to clean bird poo and bugs off of it, but other than that, a little soapy water and handwashing is all you need. Even a spray down with jet attachment work good. If you go to a car wash, it has to be touch free so the wrap does not get peeled off.
@@EV-365 i had a chance to get a rivian with the ppf included but someone snagged it first before I could since rivian is offering it for free just for this month. Can’t find a spec that fits yet now
@@vinnym5095 yes! That is a great deal they are offering now!!! Hope you find one that matches the spec you want!
One thing I forgot to mention with wraps in general. If you ever need to do body repair, you’ll usually need to re-wrap that panel. Just something to be aware about.
If I don’t get my spec with the ppf, is it worth spending $5k+ for ppf?
I recommend staring with battery performance rather than 4500 wrap.. most people will be looking for range and performance , how often do you charge , what’s the efficiency. Otherwise reasonable video
Thanks for watching! Always looking for ways to improve!
I like the wristband idea. I wish Tesla would offer one as well.
Yes, I think its a great idea. I hope Rivian does start offering these for non-Launch Edition owners!
Rally Mode is the ticket for off-roading.
Are you going to the Austin Space opening on June 7th?
Got the video up on the channel!
Dope! 🔥
Thanks 🔥
