Good to know! We've only done it this once but we want to do it again later in the season where there is no snow! I'm sure it must have been so beautiful! Glad you made it!
I believe all the times I've been back to Chasm Lake, that same snow patch has been there...perhaps not as deep. Rule of thumb: If you don't feel you can finish a hike, don't finish it. You errored on the side of safety. There used to be a sign at that trailhead that I wish was still there. It said, "The mountain does not care." That's Longs Peak for sure. Maybe another day.
The mountain, indeed, does not care. I wasn't about to do something I wasn't comfortable with. I know I don't have the skills to hike Longs Peak and that's OKAY with me. For now, I do the hikes that I can do and enjoy the views along the way. Thank you for commenting!
Well, we didn't make it even to chasm junction in July. It was a great hike anyway. You are wise to know your limitations and avoid some terrible accident, which I hear happens a lot on that part of the trail that is on that steep sideways slope, when it is covered in snow and ice.
Thank you for watching and commenting. Yes, it was so sketch and definitely not something I felt comfortable doing. You absolutely have to know your limits.
Y’all scared the absolute HELL outta me in this one! Anna don’t feel bad! You didn’t F anything up! You made the smart choice!!!! The chipmunks were cute and at least you had a romantic lunch near the port-a-potty!!!! Safe travels guys and can’t wait until the next adventure!
Thank you so much! Agreed. Being on the shelf was so scary. We do want to go back later in the season, probably next year and attempt it again. The lake is supposed to be really pretty. The chipmunks were so adorable. They kept posing for me. We saw so many more too. The good news was, the bathroom was closed and they had removed the toilet. It was just the structure, but still romantic none the less :-p. That is why we go on so many hikes. It is a chance to spend the day out in nature and recharge our batteries together. It didn't matter that we were sitting next to the bathroom. It was a day together.
Don't sweat it! My brother and I did this hike last June, and it was one of the sketchiest things he and I feel like we've ever done! Definitely a high-risk area.
Thank you! You're so kind to comment this. Have you done it when that ice shelf has been melted? We want to do a redemption hike lol. I'm glad you and your brother were ok!
My heart really felt this. I have an EXTREME fear of heights. I could barely get to Emerald Lake. Our world is so beautiful and there’s so much to see. I’m glad you listened to your gut.
I feel this. Thank you so much for commenting. It was really scary. I'd like to try again later in the summer when there's no snow to see if it's just as bad. There is a lot of beauty to see in this world. Have a lovely weekend!
Thank you for your comment! That's great to know. We DEFINITELY want to try this one again later in the season. It will have to possibly be next year. We had a family emergency and now are temporarily living on separate states for a few weeks ish.
Chasm Lake is no joke in June. I have a video from when we did it a few days later on June 27. The snow was terrifying. Someone posted on my video of them trying the next day and sliding down the snow in to the rocks. I would have died..
@@AnnaDandAdam Its not so scary in the summer! I promise. Unless the llamas are coming through. Then they want you to hang off the side as they pass. They dont want people standing above them on the side of trail because they might freak out and jump off. So I have been told.. But I would suggest going again! I rank Chasm among the best lakes in RMNP. Then there is the fun little scramble at the end. I highly recommend!
Good for you for knowing your limits! I imagine there was a voice telling you to keep going. Whether for pride, for views, whatever. and that's how we make bad mistakes. good on you.
Thank you so much Justin for your kind thought. Yes and as part of being vloggers, it's important to remind people about safety. Even though we live here and are pretty "ok" at hikes, things can still not go quite right. We hope this helps set the expectation for people visiting who may want to do this hike. Hope you have a lovely day
I am thinking of hiking Chasm late August. I’ve done Mt Washington in NH and Sky Pond. Do you think I may run into lots of snow patches up high? Thanks.
Hi! We went up last year in mid June and that's where we shared our story. Not sure what the conditions are this year in August. I may recommend looking at Instagram to see what people are posting about the conditions of that snow shelf. You'll likely not find a lot of snow as it's been really warm these past few weeks. Good luck! Let us know how it goes!
Interesting!
Thank you for watching!
Just did this yesterday in Oct. No snow but the last vertical climb up to get to the actual lake is also very sketchy! Worth it but TAKE YOUR TIME

Thank you for being so brave and honest.
My pleasure. I'm still not over that haha. I haven't been brave to go back since last year.

I'm looking forward to hiking it again with you. Getting there wasn't too bad and it was so pretty. Redemption hike!
Agreed. I need a redemption. Although, I wonder how tricky the scramble is with no snow on it 🤔🤔

Thanks for sharing. Sometimes you gotta tell it like it is. It took real bravery to stop on camera and return.
Thank you so much for watching and commenting. Yeah. Not my (Anna) proudest moment but it is what it is. Have a lovely day!
Sometimes your gotta make the call to head back, esp during storms. It's much better during late July / August 🙏

do you have to to get timed entry ticket and vehicle pass to hike chasm lake?
We did just to be safe since the park requires it. We also were the only ones with the paper on the dash at the parking lot. 🤷🏻♀️
Nope. Just a park pass.

Yeah big nope... and I've bungee jumped! :-) I hate slippery stuff!
Right??? Anytime footing is uncertain, that's a nope, nope, nope lol. Thank you for watching
