I was dreading reviewing Optative, but with the new system I have for reviewing all bias went away. I ended up digging in and leaning to what makes it stands out. I had a LOT of fun with this thing and it's been one of the more surprising weapons I have used. In the video I go go over what to look for and how it shines. It isn't just for Warlocks, but it's the best there imo.

This thing really impressed me. You need to go all in with enhanced perks, but it rocks!
I know people meme on the exotic but doing a Scatter Grenade / Nothing Manacles build with it, is actually a load of fun in PvE and usually my go to
Hey CoolGuy! Absolutely loving the new rating system. My one suggestion would be to add in an accessibility rating. Is it farmable? Craftable? How hard are the patterns to get? Does it’s source have match making?

Idk why but in PvP, I slapped hipfire grip and offhand strike on this thing and honestly surprised with how good it is.
I went with hipfire and zen moment, both enhanced. "We have the last word at home"
@@drob71688 idk man, 35m kills from hip fire after a kill. With non-ads strafe speed at 2 mob = ads speed at 10 mob, everyone misses their shots.

Just to shout it out you could also run it with Nezerac's Sin if you want to expand it to any subclass and still get benefits to all your cool downs including your super.
I love the re-issue for this gun, but my only issue is it’s sight. It’s so bulky it takes up much of the ADP sight-line. Otherwise I absolutely love it (But I’m also a big fan of 180’s)
I wish they had brought back west of sunfall 7. Basically the same gun without the fugly leaves
Yes! I have been running it with Demolitionist and Golden Tricorn (both enhanced), and with a Briarbinds build. It's so good for ability spam, and endgame content with constant weakening, volatile, and grenades, all of which feed into my Nova Bomb.
I'm running the same but with nothing manacles and I'm liking it more than an smg in the energy slot
too bad Nova bomb does damage equivalent to a wet fart rn
My version of this gets grenades back either instantly, or after one kill with Optative. I run Magnetic Grenades with Chaos Accelerant and Controverse Holds. Devour with Feed the Void gets almost the entire grenade back. You can get an additional chunk of grenade energy back with a proper Grenande Kickstart build to almost guarantee your grenade back on hit (guarentee return on kill). Optative with enhanced Demo and enhanced Wellspring ensures you'll get the rest of the way with one kill. I don't even invest in Discipline (25 Discipline, and I tested with 100 Discipline to see a difference and it's minimal).
Fun fact: Appetence also rolls with enhanced Demo and enhanced Wellspring. I rock them both for the ultimate ability spam build.
My Warlock is gonna feast with this, already working on getting the Deepsight patterns for the Undying weapons, and I do enjoy my 180s in PvP, they can snowball pretty hard
Repulsor Brace Kill Clip is something I'm holding onto as a random drop. Not crafting it that way, but I'll enjoy. But the first option sounds like something I need to try.
Looking forward to this gun now. I never liked 180's (as most people dont) but this seems juicy. I like how you show light on these underrated weapons

i've fallen in love with this weapon, demo and golden tricorn with max stability is literally the best feeling, pair it with nezarecs' sin or nothing manacles and watch the world go boom with void explosions!
it's a worse word of crota imo

Personally, I'd also give a shout-out to Attrition Orbs/Deconstruct. It's not exactly going to be obliterating adds, but the combination of Nano-munitions and Deconstruct keeps it firing for a very long time, and combining that with its high fire-rate relative to its magazine lets it proc Attrition Orbs quite a lot. About one orb per 3 seconds, in fact. That's a lot of orbs without doing anything other than just firing shots with a primary, no kill required. You can then feed that right back into Armor Charge mods like Grenade Kickstart as well as leg mods that grant healing and ability energy, as well as gaining a notable amount of super energy and triggering anything else that works with Orb pickups, like Star-Eater Scales, artifact perks, or Echo of Starvation for Devour. Alternatively, you can funnel it into a Finisher mod to generate tons of super energy or special ammo for your entire fireteam.
Demo and Repulsor Brace as left column perks means that this gun is worth two crafts. Those two perks are just so special when they roll in the left column.
Demo + Golden Tricorn is the obvious pairing for high add density, high kill volume activities. Demo feeds off volume.
Then I made Repulsor Brace + Kill Clip for my Gyrfalcon hunter to use in difficult, lower kill volume activities. Repulsor Brace doesn't need volume, and Kill Clip is strong in environments where 1 kill per reload is common.
Went for Wellspring and Permeability myself for a strand Hunter. Wellspring keeping that uptime is nice overall for that neutral game for Hunters and keeing the class ability up means more clones and consistent uptime for Permeability.

Warlock main, and love Void. Used to be contracts, now Briarbinds because it just feels more mobile/fluid a gameplay style.
This gun plus void soul capturing energy will be wild, I'll be hearing to the enclave tomorrow morning for this one!!

Tac mag plus backup mag also hit the break point where 5 gets returned from nano munitions. Giving a bit of extra stat bumps that appended does not.
I had to get one and try it out, because this dude in comp was was kicking my teams butt with his keep away, kill clip roll. And, yes he was a warlock. I play hunter mostly, and I am having fun with it.
Demo + Golden Tricorn is what got me excited to craft this thing. But, I might do Repulsor Brace + Tricorn because I adore Repulsor Brace on the Briarbinds. Free endless Weaken to abuse? Yes please.
Love it! Got mine with Tricorn and attrition orbs on my Hunter.
As a hunter that feels too vulnerable without repulsor brace and gyrefalcons, I used the Haunted dungeon smg with repulsor brace for forever now. Actually feels good to finally drop that thing for this HC with kill clip. The buffs that hand cannons have gotten finally made it worth it just in time for this Thing to come along. Love it.
I pulled one with full bore, accurized rounds, rapid hit and golden tricorn, with a range masterwork, and used it in IB last night. I was using strand warlock and was having a blast with it.
In case anyone didn't know, the new stasis trace also gets demo wellspring which is fun :D
I used the old Optative to get the Thorn quest done back in the day.
The sauce is repulsor + golden tricorn. Devour and verity’s will amp your grenades enough. This way you can get a ton of uptime on both repulsor brace and golden tricorn

Just crafted mine with this, so far my best void weapon until they release an adaptive/aggressive frame one.
this was the first thing i crafted this season, demo golden tricorn with verity brow voidlock, this thing super nice, not as much grenade energy as what you showed, but still enough to keep golden tricorn x2 active
Demo + Wellspring Something New has been my default Stasis primary since I got it so it'll be cool to have another handcannon with this combo in the energy slot

I've been using a similar build with it on my void hunter with Mothkeeper's. There's some pretty cool survivability there between the overshields, blinds, and invisibility.
Is it the best? Definitely not. But it's still a different kind of playstyle and I'm having some good fun with it in activities like the coil.
Definitely going to try this, but with Strand, and Osio Warlock. Really needed a weapon to keep up w my Exotic Traces.

Running this with demo and wellspring for my nothing manacles grenade spam voidlock. Not as good as some of the solar builds but it's my preferred play style

My first thought when I saw it was repulsor brace golden tricorn on gyrfalcons Hunter which is great but I’ll try this too on warlock
I use this on a Titan void with Armamentarium in PVP. So many grenades, so much fun 😂 I have it crafted to Keep Away and Zen moment. It slaps hard.

This is amazing with handheld supernova, even without verity’s I get the magnetic nade back after two optative kills

There's multiple rolls im gonna craft on this. This is one. THe other is gonna be repulsor brace + Golden Tricorn for void Titan.
Theres a very old veritys brow build that still works and i used it to get reaper in gambit prime way back then. But all you need is pulse grenades, riskrunner, and veritys brow. Throw a pulse at your feet and it will activate riskrunners exotic perk. Kill everything to keep the perk going and it will feed into veritys brow. Only downside is its not that viable in endgame content but its super fun
I definitely think all of the weapons that we got this season will find their way into a lot of builds in the future.
I personally crafted my Optative with Enhanced Atrition Orbs and Golden Tricorn. Why? Because I thought it would go really well with my Star-Eater Scales Hunter build.
I’m also excited to try out my Breakneck roll that dropped with Pugilist and Demolitionist.
if you use the artifact perk that enhances nano munitions if youre by 2 teammates you can pretty much shoot forever with how quick it gives the nano munitions back

Thanks for highlighting. I have a Adept Word of Crota - with enhanced Repulser Brace and Destabilising Rounds and a Crafted WoC with enhanced Dragon Fly and Sword Logic, so I’m kinda good but the Demolitionist and Wellspring roll on the Optative is intriguing.
Demo wellspring is tempting but im tempted to go demo golden tricorn just for the bonus damage but I haven’t tried 180s since before witch queen lol
I crafted mine with enhanced permeability and golden tricorn for PvE, cuz it's one of the few weapons that can get permeability with a damage perk. That way I can have 3 stasis or strand weapons and not worry about surge damage mods.
There’s this combo I’ve been running with lucky pants in PvP, hipfire with offhand it can max out to a 40 almost 42 meter hipfire it’s crazy
I have that same gnawing hunger. I use it with nezeracs sin. I may need to give this a try. I am a fan of ogma.
I really don't care for 180 RPM HC's, but enhanced Demo / enhanced Wellspring has given me an appreciation for them. Nezarec's Sin is my favorite PvE exotic, so this hand cannon was a must for me. When stacked with devour, you can get your 'nade back with 2 - 3 kills. Throwing juiced up vortex 'nades is all I want to do as a warlock; and this HC lets me do that. A lot.
You can also use nezarecs sin with this on any subclass for a ton of abilities

Demo/Wellspring is absolutely busted on Void Lucky Pants, you can keep shooting volatile rounds through Out of Luck then insta-reload for another go. Infinite bullets makes it easy keep to everything exploding.
I feel attrition orb + well spring, maybe the play since armor orb mods were nerfed, and typically you can get 1 orb from the base mag plus 1 additional orb per stack of sub munitions. Mixing leg armor mods and helmet siphon mods and your pooping orbs every. Also this is one of the few weapons with attrition orbs in the 3rd slot not the 4th.
I've gotten so many of every other seasonal weapon to drop, but this hasn't dropped for me once. I love Voidwalker and am hoping to give this weapon a shot soon.

I've been running this gun and perk combo since the beginning of the season and have been absolutely BAFFLED about why no one was talking about it. (Datto completely fails to mention its existence at all in his seasonal weapon overview video.) I was beginning to think I was crazy and put it away in the vault last week. don't underestimate keepaway underover in crucible. i've loved it and kept it rolled as this over the faster ttk on killclip for consistent play in crucible against void titans and warlocks on wells

Funny, as a warlock main I rarely main a cannon thats not Sunshot (which almost doesnt count lol), but i just unlocked Word of Crota and built one with destabilizing / repulsor brace. It's the best way to play aggressive and keep an overshield, short of the pinnacle sword. Now I have to try this too.

But seriously, I love this gun as a 180 HC fan.
Just got my crafted one 2 days ago and really like the set up, I'm using demo/tricorn, but I just hate the way it feels and the ads. I'm gonna try to keep using it and see if I can come around to it. And for anyone who liked this perk combo of demo/well but hates the gun, Dogma pr6 can get it as well. Farmable from Banshee, the perks aren't enhanced but it is solar so it works really well this season.
Volatile rounds elevates it
I haven't played much of my hunter recently but I do want to try for Gyrfalcon like you showed and not have to rely on crits as much!
If you like 180s try trust it is great with all the solar artifact perks and with a 5/5 gets 75 base reload then add surplus and explosive payload and you get one of the better feeling 180s in the game. this roll only took 5 gambit resets because we love the new engram changes.
Yeah the problem, however, was already mentioned. 5 Gambit resets. Nobody is doing that shit. IM not doing that shit and I still like Gambit
I like this thing on Contra Warlock with Demo and Tricorn, basically infinite grenades, Volatile rounds, and a 50% damage boost. With all of the grenade regen you have going on Wellspring is a wasted perk imo
Stasis Nezerac sin with this hand canon could be interesting
My only issue with it is that word of crota exists. I've got 1 with enh dragonfly/destabilizing rounds which is 10/10 on the fun factor, and an adept version with enh demo/adren junkie. I feel like that 2nd roll just outperforms what wellspring can do nowadays
Wonder how well this would pair with Nezarec's Sin and then running a different subclass, like stasis or arc. Been using Nezarec's Sin + Graviton Lance on arc Warlock to throw out a ton of flash bang grenades and this would free up the exotic.

anyone tried the setup (for pvp) with max range, hip fire grip and offhand strike, it might still keep the 1 second ttk, but it also hits 38 metres of range, from the hip. might be worth a try 🤷♂️
I see zen moment/keep away on an energy hand cannon. I then see it’s a 180… some day, maybe.

demo + golden tricorn on void warlock is so fun for PVE. you hit that 50% damage buff from golden tricorn so easily.

I have to disagree with the recommended perks when playing Void Warlock with Verity's Brow. You should run Golden Tricorn enhanced rather than wellspring. You have x2 all the time, and the extra regen from wellspring is not missed at all.
For non-void classes demo/wellspring with nezarec's sin.
It's fine, but if I'm running a void 180, it has to be word of crota. Its just better
