I was watching a documentary about Famous Amos. After all these years, losing his business, battling homelessness, and he is STILL baking cookies. He's an inspiration.

Mr Amos came to our school assembly in the early 80's, when I attended P.S. 30 Queens (in Queens NY), while in elementary school. Depending on how many books you read over the summer, that's how many free bags of his cookies you got. He was the first celebrity I had ever met😊.

His story is the story of many blacks that have lost the 'big deal' many don't stay focused on the business aspects of being in the business many don't read the small print or hire an attorney to look over the contract and if they do most of the time it's after the deal is done and the contract is signed. I even know if you have a business and sell it if you don't want your picture included you have to exclude it prior to signing the contract because once it's signed it includes everything including your picture which in many cases is the selling point. Famous Amos smiled a lot but didn't understand business, he should've taken courses in understanding the business thoroughly or hired someone to do just that. Wow, he lost millions and those cookies were really good but, they don't taste the same today and are full of preservatives. Another case of live and learn.

I live in Honolulu and many times run into Wally Amos at the car wash and at the Farmers Market. I frequented his cookie store in Kailua and thought he made a big mistake by opening a second store at Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center one of the most expensive rents in USA which eventually ended up closing all of his stores. He started making and selling his cookies at our local Costco Stores before going into Shark Tank where unfortunately no Shark wanted to invest in him. He eventually moved to the mainland where he started Aunt Dellas Cookie Company and the muffin company. He no longer has these companies but I’ve still been following if he will ever startup anything so I can at least go online to purchase his products. He’s a good man and always thoughtful about young children. He used to always give kids his cookies while waiting for his car at the car wash and you could always notice him because of his colorful hat and shirt.

Yes, Of course they probably "shut him out" -- That's what THEY do. To bring down or capitalize on another person's views, ideas, business & finances. And then THEY steal everything to profit of their own. Did y'all listen to the part where they wanted to add preservatives to his recipe in order to make a longer shelf life. (Yeah, tell me something I don't know) Famous Amos wasn't falling for that. That's what these people will do to any entrepreneur who may not know the business. What I would really like to know is the backstory of the Famous Black Jamaican man's business store "Golden Crust" entrepreneur and owner who has died several years ago. But Thank You again, for this Famous Amos story.

Wally should have licensed his Cookie brand just like how McDonald restaurants are licensed. That way other people would have invested their money to make the cookies in a large warehouse Wally would own. And he would have made a fortune just by licensing the Wally brand. Of course each licensor would have had to make the cookies with the same standard of the original cookies. The other thing he should have done was trademark the Wally Amos Cookies name. That way he would have still made royalties on cookie sales to his death.

I remember the Famous Amos stand alone store in L.A. that kind of resembled an alpine A frame house, it's pictured in the video. It was on the North side of Sunset Blvd. just West of La Brea. A&M records was on the East side of La Brea just South of the intersection. Every time I got out that way I'd get a dozen cookies. Haven't been that way in years, don't know what's there now (Oct 2022).

I remember him on Shark Tank a few years ago... They kinda blasted him for terrible business dealings and didn't get a deal...

I always saw his face on the box & would be curious about his story. Love the cookies growing up & still do but now makes me wonder what the originals tasted like.

The first person who I got the story from was Djehuty Ma'atra on youtube. That solidified it for me. Sad how this man had to start over on his own brand, but that's America for you.
