From there she went down through New Londo Ruins and the Valley of Drakes into Blighttown. Surviving the place only to go deeper into the Great Hollow and finally Ash Lake where she had to best her father in combat. Legit, after his death I purged myself of the dark sigil and chose to link the flame specifically to make sure that long the sun would shine for Siegward. Also I never got why Siegmeyer just dies if you let him do the suicide mission. Like, it has ALWAYS bugged me. He's undead. He should have shown up at the bonfire and been like "oh good. you got away. glad I could repay you." same with the toxic swamp. Dude is like... 100 meters from the bonfire. Max. Why is a lack moss such a problem for you Siegie?
@@itscoolthough419 a true death means that you are no longer in the same time and space as he is. He goes on to meet his daughter at ash lake and dies. The hollow that takes his place wakes up later, and wanders aimlessly, possibly hundreds of years after his death. Lordran is not a linear place. In fact, we have no idea if any of the undead we meet are also trying to light the fire at the same time as you. For all we know, each character is from a seperate point where the Flame grows dim, and therefore maybe each of these plotlines in dark souls takes place at wildly different times, the only character immune to final death being you, the Chosen Undead, who gets to act to benefit people who were potentially born long after you linked the Flame
I never expected such malicious intent from you, Vaati. In this age of peril, where tissues and other household paper articles have turned into rare commodities, you chose to tell this tear-inducing tale once more? I'm impressed, truth be told. Heh.
You know before I watched this series you're doing, I never thought the souls games had much of a storyline. So thank you for all the hard work you did making this series and for shining a light on the beautiful story of Dark Souls.
Its insane to me that I used to watch the old prepare to cry videos back in 2012 while walking my paper route. Back when dark souls 2 was simply a speculation. Man times flies fast. Loved the video man, keep doing what you always have!
Seigmeyer will always be one of my favorite characters. Despite unintentionally dooming him, the jovial nature he brings was unlike any other. Long live the onions Journey.
Honestly the fact that our character brings about his death out of Sheryl trying to be a good friend is so perfect for the game as it really goes to show how terrible the world is in dark souls
Siegmeyer is far from being as nice as Vaati made him look in this video. "Tricks of the mind: Siegmeyer the pretender" by hawkshaw gives the full story
This is My favorite quote because my friend sent this to me 2 days before he killed himself. We were both lovers of dark souls and darksouls 3, and I tear up Everytime I hear it.
For a German as myself his character is logical in itself . His brutal loyality, his joy in toasts and drinking and his tormented soul . It hurts to be in touch with him in Dark Souls for me 😢
My goodness, this is so cute and wholesome I can't even-... I've also been thinking about naming my kids (if I hopefully will be blessed with ones) DS1 related names. Any suggestions? 😅
I'm playing this game for first time and I just ringed the 2nd bell in blighttown. It's so amazing and want to know more about this game and as I typed in "Dark Souls Vaatividya" this notification pops up. I love this game
Be aware though, most of Vaati's videos have spoilers for the game, so if you really want the full experience I suggest finishing it first. Something I wish I could forget so I could experience this masterpiece again
@@tedwerd2561 Agree. I thought the depths is the bottom of map then blighttown came and was surprised that it goes deeper and swamp is the end. But after defeating Quelaag and reaching the bonfire came demon ruins and was like wait there's more? Now I'm returning for some upgrades.

You know, if you think about it: unkindled turn hollow when without a purpose, so it’s a measure put in place to ensure someone links the fire So Siegward killing himself was to prevent him from going hollow. Not out of selfishness, but because he didn’t want to put you through the same pain he went through by being forced to kill his best friend

I like to think that Siegland taught her descendants how to be pure of heart like her father, but also to be defenders and guardians like the player character of Dark Souls 1 was to Siegmeyer. To never be ashamed of both accepting and offering help to your companions. Was almost in tears near the end. So much nostalgia.
Siegmeyer died in Lost Izalith for me, yesterday. While depressed at the fact that I won't get the chance to see him one last time in Ash Lake, at least I take solace knowing he died with his honor intact. Might make a comic about it. Rest easy, you sweet onion.

I said it before and I'll say it again. Sieglinde is the bravest Dark Souls character among all of them. Edit: Thank you for the video. You posted it on my birthday!
8:41 I actually think Siegward kills himself since he fulfilled his promise and duty instead of dying from his wounds. He was having a toast of Siegbrau which heals you, so I think it's unlikely he dies from wounds.
My first time meeting seigward on the elevator I just ran past everything and a single enemy snuck into the elevator and began fighting him but then seigward was agro towards me, I then felt really sad
For us, who cherish these stories, knights are mortar and brick that build into inspiration. The tales of souls have a special place in my heart because in my family fathers and brothers impress to the youngest the immortal image of courage and integrity. These knights reflect these values in the stories, and our family always lives into the next generation with theirs.

I didn't watch prepare to cry back in the day, but I did watch all your videos after seeying the lore of the dark souls 3 bosses. It was a great video that linked the fire within me, and made me really love the series, not only as a cool game, but one with a profound and epic story. Thank you Vaati, I hope elden ring gives you a lot more to talk about.
Siegmeyer never being allowed to have a happy ending actually breaks my heart. I can't believe it, I'm shedding legitimate tears over a fictional character because you either let him sacrifice himself, a cherished friend, in this place so devoid of kindness, or you save his life and he becomes a hollow, killed by his daughter. The camaraderie stings all the more when it's taken from you, regardless of how it happens. Rest in peace, Siegmeyer.
His final charge gives me goosebumps everytime. Keep making lore videos Vaati! There is still more souls Lore out there especially in Demon souls.Been here since the beginning bro keep it up!
I must be physic, because just earlier I was thinking about how the Artorias Prepare to Cry Edition: Remastered Version still makes me cry every time I watch it. 😭😭
In DS3, on my first playthrough I completed Siegward's questline and got him in my Yhorm fight. I ran to take the storm ruler and before I can find it in my inventory to switch to it, YHORM FREAKING KILLED ONION BRO 🥲. Then he killed me aftera while. I come back to the fight but siegward doesn't. I realise there's no way to bring him back. I stand there motionless while the giant wreck me to pieces. I was heartbroken. Got teary eyed. Unstable the whole day. Then I restarted the run, just so that I can save siegward in that fight. And I did.
Even after 100 years his great grandson shared the same heart as him. The Dark Soul doesn't corrupt us merely brings out who we truly are inside. Love cannot become anything other than that. Long live Catarina.
Man the way you run to him when you find him dead. If the player could talk I could only imagine in that scene the player screaming nooooo! My dear friend.
I'm impressed.... Vaati's lore videos helped me understand the lore and helped me stick with DS, now I'm a true lover of the series....However, his cinematic stories and storytelling have continued to improve over the years.....Kudos
"And yhorm after the loss of the one he loved, thew away his shield. And carved a second notch into his great machete." There is so much lore in yhorms story, it could be a whole dang movie. This comment is relevant cause siegward would be included.
There is a webtoon that tells the yhorm lore if you're interested.. i think its called the dark souls anthology. It tells the story from ds1 and some other lores
As per usual, quality release from Vaati yet again. I have question for you Vaati, what are your plans for videos besides the SoulBorne-kiro game or outside anything From Software made? I was hoping you could dive into the lore for games like Hollow Knight and such. It would be very awesome.

Buuuuuuuut like... why would they praise the Sun? I get that he says "long may the sun shine," but that's kind of something different than Solaire's "Give praise to the sun." I agree, Catarina is magical af and good times for all, but just a lil nitpick!

You know before I watched this series you're doing, I never thought the souls games had much of a storyline. So thank you for all the hard work you did making this series and for shining a light on the beautiful story of Dark Souls.
The story of Soulsborne is one of the most immaculately pieced together stories in all of fiction.
Every last detail is included intentionally

The first time i completed his questline, my heart sank when i heard him say "final" toast.

It's such a bittersweet end, honestly. One of the more happier endings, compared to everyone's. The bloodline went out in such a glorious way.
Seigmeyer's death was one of the few scenes in any of the Dark Souls games that genuinely made me cry. Rest In Peace, Seigmeyer.
Me finding the video: YESSSSSSSSS!
Me after the video: NOOOOOOOO!
For a German as myself his character is logical in itself . His brutal loyality, his joy in toasts and drinking and his tormented soul .
It hurts to be in touch with him in Dark Souls for me 😢
I've watched it so long ago, still want to call one of my children after this lovable onion weirdo.
Do it! The world needs a sprightly little Siegmeyer or Sieglinde running around.
It is not a weird name! It has a purpose and a significance it is not odd nor weird but lovingly beautiful!

I like to think that Siegland taught her descendants how to be pure of heart like her father, but also to be defenders and guardians like the player character of Dark Souls 1 was to Siegmeyer.

I like to think of it as "lindern [von Schmerz]": 'easing/relieving pain' because this quite literally what she's doing to her Father.
Which by the way is the way the German translation tends to use that word as well.

And I did.
