Nothing like having fun testing audio equipment with your buddy on a budget. Thank you for taking me back over 30 years back in time.
I used that Jensen amp to power 2 6X9 and 2 super tweets in my Jeep. Had this amp for over 2 years no issues
Wow so it’s durable ! still working till this day ?
@@TNG11Automotive while their speakers arent great their amps are actually really decent because they are CEA rated
Good video really good 👍
Enjoyed the vid
Thank you glad you liked it ! 😁
I have the same set up for my outdoor speakers and it hits!!!!!
Wow, for $204 it has very good performance! Man, I laughed so much when that piece of plastic fell off the car with the vibration hahahaha 😂 great video, keep up the good work 😊
Yesss ! always makes us happy to hear you guys are enjoying our videos ! 😁We will strive to be better each time !
I say back in 1998 i bought 4 12" inch Pioneer subwoofers free air bass ,400 watt a piece from Walmart .Also the head unit was a Pioneer mosfet 50x4 watt from walmart. Had them in a 1986 s10 blazer . Those suckers bumped hard af . Literally hear me a block away . Good ol says.🤗🙏🏾😂
Great video. Been watching since the early days and its nice to see the difference in experience you guys have displayed. Try moving the box around into different positions in the trunk, forward facing, rear facing, laying down flat on its back. You will be very surprised at the changes in output. If you get a decent amplifier it will sound even better.
Wow thanks for sticking around ! 😁 makes us happy to hear ! and motivates us to be better each time ! and you bet were gonna try that on the next item we put to the test ! 😁 thanks for the tips and knowledge
Well that sold me i grabbed these yesterday for my work van . Yeah it definitely helps me woth flooring lol 😁
Nice video 📹 👍🏼
Man I remember these days!! Funny vid!
Glad to hear ! 😁 thank you for watching!
Right the days when a lil 8 or 10 in svc sub was awesome, now up to 2x12 and about to start a 4x12 build
Kicker guy here … I support this review 👊🏼
Haha this was indeed a great Kicker product!! 😁
Because of you im grabbing this setup for my gs300 later this week keep up the good work and vibes bros🙏🏾
Haha you wont be disappointed! and were glad you enjoyed our video ! 😁 we will continue doing our best to keep making good content :)
@@TNG11Automotiveupdate I bought the same subwoofer but got the 1,200 watt amp instead of the 600 I also got the 2year protection plan for a total of $228 altogether. I can’t wait to install this setup and if I don’t like the bass I’ll just buy another subwoofer so it’ll be two 10’s instead of one. My car is about the same size as the one in the video so I should be ok
Oh wow ! so im assuming you grabbed the Jensen Monoblock Amplifier ? 😁 we couldn’t find that one at our walmart but we for sure need it ! your setup will forsure perform better than the one in this video because of that better amplifier you got !
@@TNG11Automotive yeah it’s the Jensen XDA91RB mono amp. Do you think the amp is too strong for the one subwoofer?
Well the amp wont actually be doing 1200 watts at all times, only at peak times when the song all the sudden has a fast strong sudden beat. but real time watts (RMS) maybe 320 ? because the 600 watt jensen amp does 280 rms , monoblocks are specifically for subwoofers only, so im assuming it should have more rms than regular 2 and 4 channel amplifiers, but i dont think it will blow the subwoofer , i would start off with low volume and pay attention for any distortion! cuss in fact it will pack a punch especially cuss its a monoblock , but hey its walmart you have 30 days to return in case :)
Seeing cheap setups like this is a trip down memory lane. 20 years or so ago I spent less than $250 on an entire setup for my winter beater Bronco 2. Back then Walmart used to sell a box set that gave you a basic head unit (pioneer deh 1500 in my case), a pair of 6x9s and a pair of 6.5s all in one box for like $120 on black Friday. So i grabbed that, and a Jensen "600 watt" amp that was blue with the chrome center strip and all the adjustment knobs were on the top. I had one of those chrome blue XS series 12s kicking around so i threw all of that into that old bronco. Friggin setup outlasted the bronco lol. I think i still have that old pioneer in my stash actually
Wow ! i think i remember those big bundle boxes , i think it was in the times that walmart would actually have speakers out in display with demo buttons and you could press the button and the speakers would start playing music! i only know and remember cuss when i was younger i’d go pressing all the buttons and run away 😂 sadly walmart doesn’t do that anymore
@@TNG11Automotive yeah it was during that era. My local Walmart actually had a pretty good car audio section...you could get head units as far up as the pioneer 6400 or 6500 the ones that had the display with the dolphins or the race cars driving around, they carried sony, a few Kenwood eXcelon, as well as the cheapie stuff. They used to have a couple dozen on display with the speakers and the subs that you could play with. They also carried the dash kits, the adapter harnesses etc. Back then Walmart was actually a good quick option to get a set of boom booms in your daily. Obviously nothing competition level, but you could throw together a decent daily setup for a reasonable price. Nowadays they don't seem to carry much in that area
When things were at the best 20 years ago. Now subs are a grand if you buy the DB or DD’S.
Great vid. Try the Jenson 12 next did pretty well for me.
Yes ! we will definitely try them all !! even the ones you guys recommend!! 😁 thanks for watching and the recommendation!
@@TNG11Automotivethe jensen sub wont be able to hande the power well, if its in good shape when you get it, i bought 2 12s and its just meh cant handle bass too well, had them hooked up to and audiopipe 1800 which is 800 watt(max) 1 ch
It's a really good amplifier actually,I I have 1 & it needs to be fined appropriately but it's respectable!
That amp is perfect match for that sub. That amp makes a little more then its rms power
If your only gonna do Walmart stuff for sure go with the blue gothic 12vs 2 of them on the 2500watt amp
It actualy does 700 but get a sealed dual 12vs bix and would be mint for those
The output is for connecting another amplifier idk how it works with this amp however for others it’s for strapping them in a master/slave connection.
Wow okay , will have to study how that works ! but thank you for the information! 😁
The sub box definitely looks used, Kicker doesn't sell beat up items and the amp absolutely has been used. It should have had packing on the ends of the amp and plastic inserts in across the power/remote/ground inputs. I have several of the Jensen XDA series amps (they've redesigned the amps now but pretty much same insides). The Jensen app is great but the mono amp doesn't have a bass knob. Remember that Dual owns Jensen and the amps/cheap HUs are great but the subs are what they are under Dual.
Hey I have the same setup. Haven’t set anything up yet. Do I need a crossover because I have a 2018 Honda CRV EXL
My local Walmart had the dual 10 sub on sale for 38 dollars and put them behind my 370z sets and have to say in a small car they really are good. For 80 dollars for two can’t go wrong.
Yesss i agree !! they surprisingly perform very well ! more than expected!! 😁
I saw your video I got dual set up in dodge 1500 reg cab it hits so hard
On alpine 1000 watts 2 channel amplifier it so nice
Hahah wow glad to hear you also liked the dual set up as its surprisingly really good!! 😁
just so you know subwoofers aren't meant to get vocals through them that's what midrange speakers are for.
Yes ! we tried eliminating all the vocals coming from it and we almost did but there was a slight bit of vocals still , barely anything!
@@TNG11Automotive The problem with this is that you are using a full range amp and need to use their "app" to set the filters accordingly to eliminate the unwanted frequencies. I personally prefer amps with physical knobs but that amp has a "DSP" built in that seems to be decent according to a video done by BigDWiz.
Nice video but 600 watts I could never go thru the time just the wiring running part it needs big bass behind it even though it was a budget build I get that lol
It’s the head unit you have the pre out outs are probably only front L/R and RR/RL and not sub out out that’s why
Oh hellyeah!!! If your going to walmart It up you gotta though in the Jensen!😆😆😆
truth is brand new a person can not find a better sounding setup for the price.
Dont underestimate those jensen williston did an amp dyno on it its a beast for the price.
You guys are doing things completely wrong. But you’re having fun . And I’m
Here for it 👍🏽 and the Hondas
uh oh , we appreciate if you can explain what we did wrong 😅 just so we can be better each time ! we dont mind any criticism for improvement, we actually appreciate it ! :) But thank you for watching! 😁
Those model Jensens are closer to accurate ratings and the settings will only work from the app
I would check if the amp has a low pass filter and enable it to help with the high notes passing through the woofer or adjust the sub out on the head unit.
Yes ! we did have LPF on and frequency was adjusted to 80 , gain and master volume stayed default which is 5 (1-10) and on the head unit we left subwoofer on default which is 0
@@TNG11Automotive You can try playing with the low pass filter, try 70 or even 60 hertz. If the head unit also has a low pass filter, try turning that on. Also 60 or 70 HZ.
Awesome! thanks for the information! 😁
@@TNG11AutomotiveJust to be more detailed, a low or high pass filter doesn't stop the sound at a certain frequency. It's a gradual slope.
Vocals might play down to 130 hz or 100 hz depending on how deep the persons voice is. It varies. So if you set your sub amp with a low pass filter at 80hz (Jensen doesn't say the slope, but it's probably 12db per octave) it will play normally until 80hz and then roll off 12db per octave. So 160hz will be 12db quieter. 120hz will be 6db quieter.
If your head unit also has a low pass filter (it's also probably 12db per octave) you set it at 80hz.
Now you have a 24db roll off. 120hz will be 12db quieter and 160hz will be 24db quieter. A lot less vocals will be coming through the subwoofer.
The actual frequency you choose depends on you. 60hz, 70hz or 80hz is the most common. Try setting the headunit and amp to the same frequency or as close as you can get.
This is the amp to get from Walmart, Jensen XDA91RB Class-D Mono. Williston Audio did a bench test and it has over 600w. Has to be 1ohm.
Ahhh okay ! we will need to get a hold of it ! 😁
I can guarantee that sub box is not wired to 1ohm though. It most likely 4 ohm or 2 ohm max with a single coil subwoofer. Kicker isn't putting a dual coil 10 inch sub in a ported box for under $100.00.
If you guys get to skar do the SDR series package you wont be disappointed 😏
Walmart sells low under power subwoofers. GET a kicker comp vr dual 4 ohm woofer & put it into 2 ohm load the real good powerfull subwoofers are about $150 to $200 dollars. & get a long vent box & kennwood or alpine mono block amp.
You should buy a skar 10inch and put it in that box and usually its the amps fault for letting high feq past you should turn on the hpf
Will definitely look into it ! 😁
Okaay so kicker woofers love 50 hz gain and the frequency 80 or 90 it should give you thhe power you look for make sure you set the bluetooth setting to lpf (low power frequency) of you wount get the bass your looking for those amps are cool ! I installed on for a buddy no video to prove but i been doing this for a while !
Ahh okay we believe you ! 😁 and thank you for the useful information!
LPF is low pass frequency meaning the sub will start rolling off db on any frequency above 90hz on a steep slope probably 24db. That ported box is probably tuned somewhere from 40 to 45hz for a 10 inch speaker...Subsonic filter should be set around 35hz.
Down load the APP it has all hpf/lpf slope up to 18db and EQ
You guys are fucking funny. I’m glad I came across your channel.
ahhh ! glad to hear alot of you guys enjoy our videos ! 😁 motivates us to make better and more enjoyable videos each and every time ! 👏
For tuning purposes you need to use either an OSCILLOSCOPE or SMD DD-1+ there's really no way around using these tools. We all started somewhere but stay away from tuning with a digital multimeter. Also it is not suggested to run ground from seatbelt bolt. To find the best grounding point in a vehicle and not cause any grounding/ground loop issues use a multimeter to look for a spot the has the least resistance (the closer the resistance is to 0 the better the grounding location)
Oh wow okay thank you for all the information! 😁
Oscilloscopes are great for finding when the peak sine wave distorts but they are not a must have. If you know the port tuning of the box " loudest frequency the box will hit at, then you can use that frequency in a test tone and dial the gain in by listening for any distortion or cone break up. also knowing the subwoofers Fs is important also. Most sub amps have speaker line level in and will knock the voltage down from as high as 6.5 to 7 volts. If you know the head units volume where it starts to distort you can dial in back just prior to that and then like I said run the port tuned frequency until you here distortion from the subwoofer and dial it back some on the subs amp...Most head units hit around 1.0% distortion by 75% on their volume knob. Using the correct LPF and subsonic filter also makes tuning a lot easier also. Been doing this method for about 30 years now and have never blown up a subwoofer.
Holy moly ! wow your the master ! 😁 thank you for the information!
Sounds better than mine with a 300 rm amp. My amp might be bad or its because I don't have it tuned correctly
Having it tuned incorrectly will affect how it performs by ALOT ! ask us 😅 we’ve made that mistake alot of times 😭 though we’re getting better each time ! 😁
@@TNG11Automotive Yeah, thanks for the good content btw. Ive watched all your videos and helped me out when I first installed my sub. I also play older music with not a lot of bass so that's probably why it doesn't hit as good as yours. Specially those older corridors. Ima have to get an epicenter for that type of music.
Thank you for sticking around throughout our videos ! 😁 glad to hear we helped out ! and Yes ! The kind of music you play also plays a role on how the system will perform, for some reason we’ve realized that some songs just don’t produce alot of bass and some produce alot !! so thats also something to look out for !
Set the subwoofer level on the headunit all the way up, thats just your RCA voltage, you want all of it up so your amp gets the rca voltage that your stereo is rated for. Set the Jensen app "gain" to 0 since thats not the gain, its the bass boost, you want that on 0 always. The master volume on jensen app is the actual gain. Set the HPF to about 80hz and slope to 18db to eliminate the really high frequencies (voices) Also HPF on headunit to 80hz and 12db slope if possible.
Wow thank you for the information we will definitely tune it better next time 😁
@@TNG11Automotive Yeah man just tryna help so there isnt any damage to the subwoofer, Ive had that amp before, it can be confusing because of what the app calls certain things, good video
@Luminous.Dynamics Yes it was a bit confusing we prefer physical tuning knobs ! but thank you for watching and the information 😁
It's never recommended to set subwoofer on headunit all the way up this can introduce distortion. Normally it is suggested to keep all levels flat on headunit and adjust on stereo side.
@@DayV914 thats not how that works.
Would this amp work with the 12inch Walmart Kicker sub?
im sure it would ! :)
Need to give the amp credit with out the amp the speaker won't push
Try on my level by wiz khalifa bass boosted!
Did you tune your amp gains and levels?
Yes gain and master volume levels were left alone to default which was 5 (1-10) , frequency was adjusted to 80 on LPF
I have this sub. What is the best amplifier for it?
Forsure going base off many comments that back up to the same conclusion.. A monoblock amplifier !
I THINK separate sub and amp performs better guys. rather buying a prebuilt amp inside the sub.
So far that is true 😁 only cuss we find these pre built amp subs fun to experiment
@@TNG11Automotive haha 😄 i see
Dual owns Jensen. So it doesn't matter.
No manches compa se oye bien mal todo distorcionado
Power acoustic 12 from Walmart will blow you guys away with bass go it tomorrow
We will have to try it out ! 😁
Man bro the Jensen amps jus because it is from Walmart are not suckey they make more than raited power and are dependable
Sir i agree with you , they forsure got power ! not suckey ! 😁
have you got the tism?
What is that ? 🤔
Uuuyy se Quebro mas 😂😂😂
Dual is Jensen same company 🤔
According to Dual , Dual owns Jensen , im sure they bought Jensen in 2015 so i thinks its fair to say yes there are both from the same company Dual ! 😁
It is NOT a competition subwoofer, Comp is the series, NOT an abbreviation
Haha got it ! we thought it was short for competition! 😁
@@TNG11Automotive alot of people do actually
try a skar set up
Ide say the Mtx duel 12 they are about 200 bucks 2 12s
Yes we plan on trying all kinds of brands and recommendations you guys request ! 😁
Will indeed take a look at those to try them out soon ! 😁

Ohhh hahahaha its called “We dem soda boyz” 😎 by Jake Bowen
Please don't be offended. What I'm about to say have nothing to your job with your car audio installation. It's depicts trend in general.
For me it's funny/depressing/hilarious that now a days DIY comes to purchasing some cheap chinese "blocks" and joining them according to manual...
From one hand I aprriciate people who try to bring somthing tolive by work of theirs hands. I'm one of those wierdos with fool set of tools in small apartament... But today's DIY is like putting together a 1500 pieces puzzle depicting Mona Lisa and claiming that you painted it on black poplar board...
I have no idea what you're trying to say.
No worries we honestly dont get offended at all :) , doesn’t matter what people can say , we see it as a criticism for improvement! ! But being honest we’re a bit confused 😅 what exactly are you trying to say ? we’d like to know so we can be better ! :)
You talk to much can’t even hear if it’s playing 😖
Uh-oh will work on being more quiet next time ! 😭
It’s junk like the Mexican Lamborghini Honda
Glad you like the car ! 😁
Bro, why are you hating?
This is how to hack a janky system. Just dont.
Bro, don't be a Debbie Downer. We need more people getting into car audio, not less.
What a cheap azz carpet job on the box by Kicker . I expected better . Absolutely zero seam blending , looks like a PYLE box with Kicker written on it.
The speaker overall does perform well ! 😁 maybe could have improvements on the design?
@tng11automotive63 could have definitely done a better job with the carpet . They could have used a slightly thicker, better quality enclosure carpeting . Also could have run the seams of the material to the bottom and bottom edges of the enclosure in order to at least tuck the seams under the box out of sight. I like Kicker, but the way they did it so cheaply ruined the asthetics of it .
Damn. This is a hack video. Please do more research. Just wow.
Thanks for watching! 😁
What's up with all these Debbie downers? It looks like you guys are having a lot of fun and learning at the same time. That's what it's all about. 👍
