I love your wolf videos. They are definitely my favorite animal. I was backpacking in Yellowstone many years ago and I decided to camp in a large meadow. After I set up camp I noticed a wolf in the distance. With my binoculars I could see that he was watching me. The next morning I noticed several wolves in the distance. They stayed away but kept moving, sort of circling me. I figured they were just observing me but they never got very close. I stayed a couple days just enjoying watching them until they finally left. When I got back out the trail had been closed due to a grizzly bear sighting. I still like to believe that the wolves were watching out for me. Keeping the bear away. 😊
My neighbour's son was a co-op student on assignment in northern Alberta, Canada. He went for a walk. Several wolves (like the ones you like to think were watching out for you)...tracked him, then attacked and killed him. That's what wolves do....they CIRCLE you.....before they move in to kill.

Thank you for this wonderful post. I had a 50% Timberwolf/Malamute which was my first wolf, dog. He lived for 11years. After he passed, I went looking for a Malamute. I met my husband this way. He had both Malamutes and Siberian Husky kennels but also had an Arctic white wolf, three red wolves and two Timberwolves. I bought the male as a Malamute and the female was Malamute and Red Wolf mix. My husband and I know how to raise these animals and we have loved every one of them. Once again, thank you for this post, it has brought back many memories.
Thank you for this video. Wolves have been my favorite animal species since a child. To hear the howls of a pack is a rare treat indeed. I live close to Yellowstone National Park and the wolf conservation debate is very heated here. I have rescued two Czech Wolf dogs as well as well as German Shepherds. The Wolf dogs were my favorites. And yes, you better be educated to the breed before owning or adopting.
My Wife and I adopted an Alaskan Malamute some years ago. We took her to the Vet, and she was super friendly and loved the Vet and his assistances. My Vet got a little suspicious and ran a blood tests on her. The results came back, and Nikki was half Malamute and half Alaskan Grey Wolf. Nikki couldn't bark just howl, growl and snarl. She was very protective of the kids and if Nikki didn't know you it was not a good idea to approach the kids. She had many Wolf traits but at the same time she was calm, loving and didn't square up with you unless you were a stranger to her. We had a neighbor that hated Nikki because Nikki would growl at her when she walked by the fence and the kids were outside playing. There was just something about that lady Nikki didn't like, because she was the only one Nikki did that with. The lady had no idea about her genetic makeup, she just hated her because she growled at her. I found Nikki dead in the back yard one day after the woman had been by the fence about an hour earlier. I took Nikki to the Vet, and he found that she had been poisoned with hamburger containing drain cleaner. I filed a police report and this woman laughed about it with the cop standing there. The cop asked why was that funny and this woman said because I didn't think it would work that fast. The cop asked, YOU did this? and she said sure and if it hadn't worked the first time she would have done it again. She was arrested on the spot and booked on extreme animal cruelty, malicious mischief, and destruction of private property charges. She went to trial and the judge gave her a year in the county jail and fined her $10,000. I wanted her to get more time as the money would never replace Nikki but, you take what you can get, I suppose.
I am sorry for your loss. Nikki sounds nice and cute and definitely did not deserve this. I am so sorry. I wish you all the courage, bravery, and strength to go through this. I am sure Nikki is in dog (or wolf) heaven right now. Requiescat In Pace, Nikki 🫶❤️🩹🫂

it is sketchy to keep any undomesticated animal, and i don't like that they're breeding wolves with dogs, which both defeats the purpose of wolf conservation, and makes fearless encounters and attacks on humans more likely
Don't do it. They are very high maintenance and NOT like having a dog. You cannot do dog things with them such as training, taking them to the dog park, keeping them in a house etc. Some people let them in the house but they tend to be destructive and most can't be housebroken. SOOO many wolves and wolfdogs end up without a home because they don't make good pets. So unless you do plenty of research, have a lot of money to spend, and are ready to be committed and willing to give them everything they need, do not get one.

Dogos and Dogs like these dogs are actually literally used to hunt Pumas, Lions, Wild Boar and all kinds of big game so. There's that. And we all know what Malinois do so just imagine. There's a reasonable reason they're called man stoppers.

great info for people like me. I want to adopt a rescue when I am ready to co-parent a dog one day but it is SOOOOO useful to know that low-percentage wolf dogs are not as trainable as I would only want to adopt a breed or mix that was very trainable in order to keep myself and the the dog and my doggo dad co-parent safe and happy. nothing against the less trainable dogs.. Its just SOOO important to home doggos with compatible forever homes. especially since I know ppl nearby who rescue low content wolf-dogs and I had been considering a foster.. but now I am seeing that is not the right path for me. thanks so much for your work.
Some of these tips are common sense even with dogs. Strangers patting on the head and getting up close for a hug and am always wary when kids are around one of my huskies. As he's gone for warning nips before when a young lad wouldn't leave him alone. This is why I'm convinced that a lesson in dog etiquette has to be implemented into the curriculum in primary schools. As for the food in pockets, there has been a number of coats where the insides of pockets where treats are or have been were surgically ripped open.
I got to do this 11 yrs ago. It is THE MOST exhilirating ineraction with nature bar none. At the rescue where I went, there was a MASSIVE white wolf that was half McKenzie Valley and half Arctic Tundra. She was very friendly but loved to see what was in your pockets. She's been known to rip a person's jeans off to see, LOL. We left her pen before I lost my jeans...

I had a high percentage wolfdog. What I would tell people was to not make eye contact, ignor him and let him come up to you for a sniff. Also present your side and keep your hands to yourself. Also don't use baby talk with him like you would do with a dog. Once he was chill with the person I would advise them to sit down. Your right about the mouth thing once the other pleasantries are out of the way. It's a good sign when they want to lick your mouth and teeth. Oh also if you wear glasses take them off....they are very rough and tumble lol. Currently I have an American Dingo aka Carolina Dog.....she is very doggie inside but has the pushiness of a wolf dog. Tries to dominate by using her body. Outside she is has a very high prey drive and territorial attitude lol. She is a great being. :)
Your wolf video was an excellent animal behavior overview of an intelligent, aware, highly flexible multiple individual “being”. When greeting a strange dog you are dealing with an individual, however with a wolf, a highly dynamic social community. And now I understand how the Akita service dog in another video could sense the onset of an epileptic seizure in its owner, a “hard wired” canine trait! Great job on the video! You are a inspired teacher!
just saw short on instagram so i came watching 😁 what scares me more right now is abandoned dogs in forest paths, anyway, places where i'm alone. A young pitbull played with my leg, hopefully without really biting it, but since then i'm afraid of dogs anywhere and i have read about people being killed from several dogs while walking in nature, rarely happens but scares a lot, o talk about spain. Bears and wolfs, most savage animals usually will not encounter us if they hear us. Thanks for sharing as always 👍👍👍 and have a wonderful day 😁
A friend has a wolf dog but it's less than 25% wolf. Bit of a crazy creature. If it knows you well and you sit down it will plonk itself on you and you do not really get a choice. it loves being stroked/scratched between the forelegs. I have taken to wearing toetectors as it will try and steal footwear/socks while you are wearing them. Then it;s off like a rocket out the back door and hides the item somewhere in the 6 acres my friend has. Took my girlfriend over there years ago and one shoe was gone in seconds. It turned up in the woods about 2 years later.
Yes, we can adore animals; yet, we must learn how to approach them effectively. And then we can experience their magic! The wolves are beautiful.🎉 I am wishing you all the best as you go through some challenging times: this too shall pass.❤🎉 I learn so much from your incredible ✨️ stories.
Plot twist: Here in the Netherlands, the wolf is back. This is a very dense population country. Which means the wolf almost has to be in contact with people. There is almost no room for him to ignore us people 😂 Of course ignorant people have been feeding them (experts said they believed some were fed). They also have attacked alot of farm animals. Which means they are coming close to farms and humans. The EU forbids to shoot them, they may not be scared away not even with paintball guns so they dont learn to shy away from people. Some have approached humans walking very close to them. One chased a person on his bike, one chased someone riding her horse. There have been incidences where a wolf was walking through the streets. So these are a mix of tame and wild animals, they dont know how to approach humans as tame wolfs in wold parks do, there are no staff members to correct behavior, some are definitly not scared of people. How to approach these kinds of wolfs? Especially with having little kids walking through the woods. What to do if they aproach the kids for example. Excuse my bad English, I am still work in progress..
My friend snow only tested me twice in the beginning of our friendship. He nipped at my face. I didn’t feed him for two days twice. The second time he figured it out. If I scare him away I don’t eat. And we became lifelong buddies.
One thing I learned was not to get them access to the inside of your wrists. They smell blood from your veins and start to nip. The most common injury from wolves or exotic cats is being knocked down. Getting in their way is like standing in front of a moving car. Someone I knew had a dog bigger than a wolf and when he turned around to look at something quickly he'd knock you over violently.
Not all Zoos are the same. A number of Zoos in USA are members of AZA (Association of Zoos and Aquariums). The rules of belonging to the association are intense and strictly enforced. All of the AZA zoos participate in SSP ( special survival plan) breeding program. They have to be on the SSP list and adhere to the rules for preserving genetic diversity. For example Mexican Grey Wolf was practically extinct until participating zoos became involved. Their enclosure mirrors their natural habitat. They have limited interaction with humans, and a number of wolves were released into the wild. Still, they are extremely endangered with maybe around 200 in the wild. All the Mexican Grey Wolves in the various zoos in USA have similar enclosures mirroring their wild habitat. So, to reiterate, not all Zoos are the same. They are crucial in preserving various animal species and they participate in conservation.
What beautiful and intelligent creatures. I could watch them all day! Big hugs to you dear lady and thank you for making such a wonderful video of my favourite creatures.
Wolfs are simply amazing and beautiful and have little fear of them. In the wild. They want to be left alone. Coyotes are beautiful as well but I have been stalked many times
They have a mind, I've never had trouble, you have to accept they have a mind, bark growling=accept communication... Small successful doings is your best option
Wolves are a pack animal and although bond with other species including humans remain loyal to a pack leader . Show no fear and there's a good chance the wolf will accept your presence.
Used to work at a wildlife center many, many years ago down in the south of england; and this is pretty much spot on. To many people think that an encounter with a wolf, wether wild or 'tame', will be like encountering a dog; when it's far from that. Why our center would never allow something like a wolf encounter with the pack we had back then. Most of the staff had a great working relationship with the wolves, but people couldn't be trusted. Was bad enough people kept slamming on parts of the enclosure or trying to cross barriers near the fenced portions.
Talk about airing out her dirty laundry? Geez. She can tame the wolf but not the Wolf man. I can understand completely though that them Spanish women's pull is irresistible. It's been pulling me in crazy directions forever. Even when I know it's crazy at times. Still I'm like. Let's Salsa.
Would love to greet a wolf, but I'd most definitely wiggle and squeak and I'm 45 and 6ft tall! Amazing creatures, great footage, was sad to see that clip when it appeared someone kicked the wolf though.
Many good rules and behaviors for people interacting with wolves. The same human behaviors are good when meeting an unknown dog, even if the dog belongs to your friend. We always tell parents their children can approach our dogs AFTER the parents have approached and interacted with our dogs. We also tell kids to offer their fist instead of open hand, because fingers are sausage shaped snacks.
Great video Anneka, thank you! I LOVE wolves and think they're one of the most misunderstood animals. I would also like to recommend to you H & K, which is a channel about a Harvey, a Husky dog, and a high-content wolfdog named Kane. I think you'll like their channel and I'd love to see you collab in the future if possible.
Oh goodness, my collies, my shepherds and my Catahoula leopard dogs have always done similar stuff, I actually thought most dog owners knew this. I am sorry that I misunderstood this.
I spent a night sleeping next to a wolf that was raised by a family. I had just met this wolf that day... I was laying down to sleep and she came over to me..she spent several minutes nose to nose with me no licking just breathing... and then laid down next to me for the entire night. my fear was waking up at night to pee. ,, thankfully my bladder did not fail me.
Wolves are my heart. I have had very vivid dreams of wolves talking to me and protecting me many many times. I give what I can afford to wolf conservancy ever year and learn everything I can about these wonderful beings. I just found your channel and am excited to see all your videos. I think they are very misunderstood and education about them is key.
Really love how informative this is. There are several times that "like you would with your dog." when advising against certain things. The funny thing is while I've never encountered a full blooded wolf I found much of your advice applies to meeting new canines of any kind. The greet by backside sniffing dogs often do instead of face, and social challenges are about the same. I really wish to know if wolves respond the same to "stand firm but show no interest" approach during aggressive greets. Again great video.
beautiful animal! sorry that happened to you and your son, tell jr to hang in there, things will get better... woman who gave birth to me walked out on both me n dad
Dealing with wolves in the park just sounds basically like how you deal with energetic and/or anxious dogs, with slightly more danger. Most of this just seems like common sense, with the addition of a few oddities like not wearing animal products of any kind and to not have any health issues. Also, wolves are smaller than I thought. Then again, I consider German shepherds to be medium sized dogs.
Anneka thank you very much for sharing this beautiful and very interesting video,i love wolves and i want to go and iteract with them one day. I admire you so much for your professionalism and competence, very compliments Anneka!👏👏👏👏👏🥰🐺🔝
Wild wolves attacking humans is "pretty much zero" chance you say? What about the story of Kenton Joel? That pack of timber wolves stalked and killed him. They did so the moment he left the populated worksite he was visiting. His running didn't help the situation, but he only ran once he realized he was nearly surrounded by 4+ wolves. He should have stood his ground, but his chances of surviving were slim the moment he realized he was surrounded. The wolves saw him as prey and it was night time.
Fantastic. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge and experiences. I really love wolf and looking forward to meeting them one day. I don't think I will ever have one but, I would like to have at least a picture with one......
I love your channel. But I must mention that not all ZOOs are barbaric. The good ones are members of AZA )Association of Zoos and Aquariums) and must adhere to the strongest conservation and animal welfare standards. The association closely monitors their members. SF Zoo is active in wildlife conservation and participates in SSP (special surviver plan). They do have a pack of Mexican Grey Wolves (which are nearly extinct in the wild) and, when they are successful in breeding them, they keep them isolated from the public until they can be released into the wild. All animals at the zoo have appropriate habitat mirroring their habitat in the wild. The Zoo does not go out and trap animals to cage them. They only rescue injured, or abandoned animals. This is the same mission of all reputable Zoos. They exist to preserve wildlife and preserve the genetic diversity. Some animals can not be released into the wild., so then, they have a wonderful rich life in the Zoo.
Cheers Animal Watch. Wolves are great! It would be lovely to have them living wild in the UK again but I don't think we have the space with such a huge population living on a small island. They were once a native species in the UK.👍
Hey honey and all followers/fans of sweet Anneka en team/co-animal-lovers, people should have much more respect for each other, for animals and for Mother Nature! All respect, sweetie and lots of love from Pinkie
The general public really don’t know how to greet a new domestic dog. I try to teach people how to do it correctly. People should not assume that the dog is always friendly.

great info for people like me.
LOL, my very alpha house cat is just here trying to pet the doggos through the screen.
Good kitty coonster
Some of these tips are common sense even with dogs. Strangers patting on the head and getting up close for a hug and am always wary when kids are around one of my huskies. As he's gone for warning nips before when a young lad wouldn't leave him alone. This is why I'm convinced that a lesson in dog etiquette has to be implemented into the curriculum in primary schools.
As for the food in pockets, there has been a number of coats where the insides of pockets where treats are or have been were surgically ripped open.
... And here I was thinking about you coming up with a video on how you related to those wolves, and here you are. Love this channel.
Another excellent episode. Such good advise with common sense respect for the wolf. Sharing this video with my Facebook friends and group.
I just adore your videos anneka. I’ve been obsessed with wolves and dogs since a small boy. and now as a 48 year old I’m going to try and have my first interaction with one for my birthday in June. You’re an absolute star. Keep up the great work 👌🏻
Glad to see and admire such a beautiful, concerning and strongly self expressive woman able to publicly admit we are all a lot more emotionly delicate than appearances may suggest.. guilt and self assessment especially when children are nearly always the main victims. Your to be X will in long run will the one be sobbing with guilt over his actions.. thankful mercies for BetterHelp and companies alike out there xx..Adrian
ur dog is no difference from many others, my husky is the same
Your wolf video was an excellent animal behavior overview of an intelligent, aware, highly flexible multiple individual “being”.
Thank you for this beautiful , informed, experienced, compassionate and strong content. All types of Wolves deserve our consideration and respect.
You are so welcome
Yes, we can adore animals; yet, we must learn how to approach them effectively. And then we can experience their magic!
The wolves are beautiful.🎉
I am wishing you all the best as you go through some challenging times: this too shall pass.❤🎉
I learn so much from your incredible ✨️ stories.
What a great insight into wolves. Misunderstood fantastic animals 💙
Plot twist:
Here in the Netherlands, the wolf is back.
This is a very dense population country.
Which means the wolf almost has to be in contact with people. There is almost no room for him to ignore us people 😂
Of course ignorant people have been feeding them (experts said they believed some were fed).
Most of what you said in this video is common sense when behaving around wild animals. Thank you for sharing and reminding us of the basics.
Love it they are more scared of you then you are of them.. the chosen one you. Thanks
My friend snow only tested me twice in the beginning of our friendship. He nipped at my face. I didn’t feed him for two days twice. The second time he figured it out. If I scare him away I don’t eat. And we became lifelong buddies.
Snow was an all white Artic wolf. Beautiful and tougher than any dog I ever encountered.
why tf would u not feed a fkn wolf to 2 days?
that’s just messed up.
Anneka- So sorry to hear about the divorce and its impact on you and your son. Truly, Meghan.
Thinking of you during this hard time in your life. thank you for all you do. You make a difference.
Vous êtes adorables avec les loups
I wondered how you got interested in wolves, and became professionally knowledgeable
You made so many excellent points in this video the differences between the breeds. Very eye opening.
I always love your videos. Being an owner of a wolf hybrid, your videos do explain alot of their behavioral traits.
You’re the strongest most glorious kind of woman. ❤❤❤
Buenas tardes desde Argentina ,mar del plata, felicitaciones!!! Espectacular video👍🐾🐾🐾
Wolves are very smart and even wise animals. They have own laws.🐺
My pit mix has 5% "wolfiness". People think she is feral when she is hunting for fish in the creek.
Wolfiness is not wolf DNA
@@xxTamisxx - yeah, I know. It's primitive dog DNA
These videos of yours are wonderful. You must have a strong character to establish such relationships with these wonderful animals.
I would never consider any wolf 'tame'.
we love all your videos, but especially this one!
The high content wolfdog sounds like my shiba inu 😆, except mini in size
These are extremely important lessons if I were to encounter a wolf thank you very much anneka
Very informative video as always. I'm sorry about your divorce. Wish you only the best, wolves will help you too ❤🐺
Talk about airing out her dirty laundry?
I loved your content and channel
Many good rules and behaviors for people interacting with wolves. The same human behaviors are good when meeting an unknown dog, even if the dog belongs to your friend. We always tell parents their children can approach our dogs AFTER the parents have approached and interacted with our dogs. We also tell kids to offer their fist instead of open hand, because fingers are sausage shaped snacks.
god bless you and your son,
Thank you for this information! It's great to know what's what I love wolves
Thanks for letting me know about the wolves I learned a lot how is ocean doing I purchased a pillow of you and lume it's beautiful
There was an episode on “Alone” where the guy looked out of his shelter and wolfs were all around with some super close. Kinda scary but so beautiful
Always interesting and important to know in areas or counties where Wolves roam
This is the exact description I give for my 6 month old puppy (who's basically going through his T-Rex phase) to guests visiting my home
They belong free and in the wild
I do not visit zoos! I wish this type of recreation would be 🚫 forbidden.
Teachers should introduce this topic to their learners.
💯 Absolutely.
Everyone of these wolves are pretty.
They are very smart.
Look how they dive at her for kisses and attention.
Hell, I would do it also.
All respect and appreciation, well done, good luck and success every day is more beautiful than the other
beautiful animal!
sorry that happened to you and your son, tell jr to hang in there, things will get better... woman who gave birth to me walked out on both me n dad
🥰, no biting
I’ll stay on my couch, thanks
Awesome video! I’ve always wanted to see wolves in the wild, maybe one day. Would love to meet one!
Cheers Animal Watch. Wolves are great! It would be lovely to have them living wild in the UK again but I don't think we have the space with such a huge population living on a small island. They were once a native species in the UK.👍
Thankyou for this amazing video, wolf is my most favourite animal. 🥰
good
Very beautiful video😀✌🏻🐾🐾❤️❤️thanks for sharing Anneka
Interesting ways to greet wolves
This is nuts!
Really geneious baby
Ocean looks really good nice to see this video because this information where I learned a lot of stuff about the wolves have a good day
Wolf Love ♥
Hey honey and all followers/fans of sweet Anneka en team/co-animal-lovers,
people should have much more respect for each other, for animals and for Mother Nature!
I continue to hope for a Eutopia in the future where this will be the case.
Mean while, I 'm grateful that there are people like Anneka who shows people how some animals realy are! All respect, sweetie and lots of love from Pinkie
Cool video guess I will scrap the idea of singing the werwolf’s of London song . Are coyotes the same?
That’s a cool looking dog at your side; you referenced it like it was a dog. What breed is that - beautiful dog!! (Wolf or wolf-dog?)
his is exactly how wolves came over to mankind and became best of friends
We did not domestic wolves, they came to us for food and affection .
Wild😍😍😍
The general public really don’t know how to greet a new domestic dog. I try to teach people how to do it correctly. People should not assume that the dog is always friendly.
I think I'm good with having no contact with wolves after seeing this video. I will always love them though.
