Welcome to the super ultrawide club mate! To be honest I reckon you've made a great choice. I've got a 49 inch AOC Agon myself which I've had for nearly two years now (at the time the Samsung G9 was extreeeeme expensive) and for single seaters in particular it's fantastic. I love it.
Funny enough, I've been through all the options from a single 16:9 screen, to then a single ultrawide screen, to the VR, then to triples. Triples is the most complicated thing to setup so I kept putting it off but then that upgrade finally caught up to me. I didn't have that intense of an ultrawide display, that one on its own actually costs more than my triple 27" XD. The crispness of monitors is really quite glorious, especially when having gotten used to the blurryness of VR. Everything is all like, woooow. Can actually read the distance markers from all the way down the track. I don't know about on that monitor but on triples that support HDR, enabling HDR on them as they surround you is really satisfying. Especially when driving on a track around sunrise or sunset as you get the shining of the sunrays off in your peripheral vision and it feels quite engaging. Congrats on the upgrade :)
I switched from triples to a 49" ultrawide, tried VR as well (Reverb G2), it's the sweet spot for me, so much easier to set up, takes up less than half the space, it's great to use for work as well. And it works great for other gaming, with a standing desk you can slide your whole rig underneath easily as well and have the monitor right up behind your wheel..
I was a VR racer much like you. I raced nearly 3 years straight in VR using a Quest 2. I purchased the G9 49” 1000R over Christmas break and haven’t looked back since. I love the G9! ❤
its a nice monitor but can compare with VR. The advantages are only that is easy to use and you dont need a 4090 to run it properly. I have 2x 34inch Ultrawide 1440p screens from Alienware and Samsung but on the rig ima using Reverb G2 and can assure you that with 4090 and some tweaks have clearer picture than the monitors .
I have this monitor and VR as well. I find myself using the monitor instead of VR 90% of the time. It’s hooked up to my motion system so moves with the whole system and that’s just awesome.
I like your preference of the ultra-wide over the triples, even if i was first caught by your content cause of VR,i understand your reason and feel happy for you so let's get in there! love from Mexico:p
I got the 57" Odyssey. It's fantastic for racing. I do you use VR (Quest 3) but using ultrawide is just so handy. VR gets a bit too claustrophobic after a couple of hours for me.
G9 owner here too 😃 I tried triples as my mate was selling his 27gl83a-b setup, packed away my G9, set up the triples, loaded acc then iracing, turned off the pc and put my G9 back😅. I love it 👌
what was the reason? I personally went today from an 55 inch oled tv 120hz, to tripple 32 curved (VA 1440p) and I miss the image and detail of my oled. Now hesitating if this would be something for me. Also had a lot of trouble getting used to the narrow screen.
I was in the same position a while ago and was between SUW and triples. Ease of setting up and better FPS on SUW won it for me. Only situation I miss out on is lack of vision side to side but if I have the little proximity widget like in ACC I don’t think it’s necessary to have that extra peripheral vision
I ran in VR with rift cv1, rift s, quest 2, and currently hp reberb g2. At the same time I had 34 and 49 ultrawide and I went to triple 27 (undoubtedly the best option in terms of monitors), I don't stream but I began to notice that I was missing the adrenaline and immersion of being on the track, so I began to run less , until I realized that the problem is that I was missing the vr. Currently I only run in VR and I don't use triples, in 1 month when you put on the glasses again you will be confused with what you really want, running in VR is running a race, competing on flat screens is playing a video game. I clarify it is my point of view.
i understand where your coming from with going from vr to monitor. I race in vr but been toying with the idea of getting serious about doing videos. If I do I dont think everyone would want to see me sitting there with a headset on lol. will be interesting to see how you transition. Nice monitor congrats!
It's not even clickbait but that title really had me clicking on the vid as I'm going the other way, I've had a decent 4K monitor , no triple screen or something amazing as this but racing an open wheeler with my old oculus rift S blew me away, like literally almost as if i really was in that speed machine and could almost feel the wind when steopping on the throttle, made me realise racing once seater formula type cars is more like riding a motorcycle than a car in a way. The popular GT3 type cars dont give me the same impression in VR. Anyway, So I meant to say was I'll be looking out for a Quest 3 sale, as it really does seem a next gen VR visor compared to my oculus and worth the upgrade.BUT indeed I tried taking screenshots and recording my VR experiences, hopeless, if you have conent creation in mind, forget it. The only way to make a VR virgin experience what it is like is to make them put one on, no flat, often reded from just one of the two eye screens video, and esp screenshot can do it justice. And even if ur not trying to wow people, it still sucks for content creation. The imagery is shitty and you still look stupid wearing it waving ur arms around like a blind maniac tripping on drugs reacting to things only he can see.
Ultrawide for ease of use on your system but if you've got the resources and space triples all day long. Great purchase Scott, I too was concerned about coming from VR to screens but I much prefer it all day long
I really think the ease of use gets overlooked. Setting up triple monitors is a pain, and it seems like every new game or every time you have to take a week off your having to mess with them again. I switched from my triple set up to a suw and I'm never going back. I still switch back and forth from VR to the screen and it seems like the best of both worlds.
I have the same Monitor you have. I also have the Standalone Triple monitor stand and overhead monitor from NLR. What a difference. Not going to lie. The real estate all of these monitors take up is not small. But good for you. Hope you are still loving it.
Hi Stuffey, I can suggest to you to try that with a Track Ir. If you set that in a real good way, you can look everywhere like a VR but you don’t need to use an Helmet. Sure VR is more immersive but also in this way is not bad. I use G9 and Ir already from 3 years and I feel really satisfate during my race… enjoy and have you a good Easter
I've just switched from triples to ultra wide. I prefer the space efficiency of a single monitor. And I can race just as well with a narrower FOV, as I did with triples.
Congrats on the aquisition! I have the Odyssey G9 as well, manily racing open wheelers. Consider the best setup i've ever had, even after racing with Vr and 27 inch triples. For formulas is a great FOV, specially in the F4 and FR3.5 (my favourite cars).
Nice video! However single monitor even if it's 49" ultrawide (27"x2), you still can't see much on the left and right side of the car. I prefer Triple monitor by a long shot for racing games or productivity. Single ultrawide are easy to setup for sure!

Hi @stuffeyy ! Thanks for nice video! I does not look like your "Cockpit" view on camera is "normal".. how do you manage to show less of the stearingwheel in the car?
Best of both worlds triple ultrawide baby. Seriously though I would like to see someone have a 49 and two 32 inch monitors on each side. But set it up in such a way that the ultrawide represents the front window screen and the two side mirrors represent the two side windows. So in that set up I would have it so that I am sitting to the left of the ultrawide monitor I’ve not seen anyone set it up like this everyone put themselves in the middle of the ultrawide, but I think this would be the most realistic possible setup I hope someone tries it. Someone richer than me.
I went from G9 49" ultrawide to triple 32" and couldn't be happier, 49" ultrawide is really two 27" and very narrow to say the least, it will never give you the immersion that you get with triple 32". Cheers
@@DocXGen 32" Odyssey G65B, QHD, 240Hz, Smart Gaming Monitor, I have also tried the new 57 inch Samsung that people are saying that it's better than triples, I wouldn't trade it for my triples even if they gave it to me for free. Cheers
@@adrianmilanesi9143 thank you very much that helps solidify my decision for triples, I want to see as much as possible. I used to use trackir for flight Sims and loved it, but never really enjoyed it with driving so getting that similar field of view with triples will be awesome, thanks again
@@DocXGen No worries you are welcome, make sure you also buy the bezel free kit it makes a big difference, and spend some time setting it up properly, I also used black tape at the back of the monitors where they join together to get rid of any light protruding between them it really helped and made the bezel almost invisible. Enjoy your sim racing my friend. Cheers
I am going from a 49" Samsung Odyssey curved to a 65" gaming TV. While I use VR whenever I can, sometimes I just want to play without VR. What I did not like with the 49" UW, is that the height is just too narrow for me. I just couldn't get used to it. Like I said, nothing beats VR, but I think I'll enjoy the 65" OLED TV better than I did my Samsung 49" Oddyssey. I now use the samsung for other games and doing work, but not for my sim rig (which is a motion sim DOF H3).
It is an amazing Racing Rig and great looking displays. I can't afford something like that so I will invest in a good computer and my VR headset being somewhat cheaper than also adding all that great Racing Rig hardware. Are you in the future going to also add motion devices to your Racing Rig. Enjoy all your driving on IRacing. Win some races for me. Great video and Take care.
Having the monitor as close as possible makes a massive difference for immersion and usefulness of any given monitor. I have a 35 inch ultra wide and manage a larger field of view than seen here ,with both mirrors fully visible. I have the monitor literally mounted as close as possible behind the wheel just far enough away that my fingers can’t touch it when shifting gears. It’s 1440p and I still can’t see any pixels at that distance with perfect 20/20 vision.
Hey mate! Great setup and looks a lot like the one I’m looking to build. What’s the height of the table you are using, trying to get and idea if my current table would work or if I need to switch to a separate screen stand. Cheers!
It's funny, because I went from a 34 inch ultra wide to triples because everyone said that was the go. Now I've come to realise I don't look at either of the screens when I'm racing 😂 eyes are always forward apart from the few times when I've spun and I'm re joining, but that's about it. Maybe I'll try the 49 inch ultra wide next 🤔 save a bit of GPU usage as well!
i honestly dont suggest 57 or ultra wide screens. Its just not as immersive as u would think and it wouldnt be great. I suggest if ur buying the ultrawide screens give the 34s to someone that wants it.. my message to u is be HUMBLE
man, can i give you a tip ??? use a NB monitor piston suport...it holds until 9 kgs....you can use the back of one of your L table, than rotates the motinor to use your table normaly....its pretty handgle to me and you can use the monitor even closer to win more side vision...
Only issue is that it would be nice to see the mirrors on each side. Also... Not sure it is possible in this racing game but perhaps remove the steering wheel visuals completely and set the seat position in game slightly further back?
I am on the fence myself with going to a monitor from vr. My biggest reason for the vr swapping is on AC it's a stuttery mess the whole time. Just a bad experience. Quest 2, 8700k, 3070.
Can you increase the viewing angle to see the mirrors as well? I think that was the biggest reason I thought about getting a super wide monitor. VR also helps you look through the halo since you can move your head in the cockpit.. Wish Oculus VR 2 was not such a piece of crap.
You should get a webcam and get head tracking. It’s super easy to set up and there’s plenty of videos on TH-cam on how to do it. You’ll get some of that immersion back and definitely will have the full field of view.
Great video in the link below on the head tracking with a webcam. Only thing I would suggest is not turning on the roll function, I’ve found it feels more natural without it. m.th-cam.com/video/MjD71whs01M/w-d-xo.html&pp=ygUUd2ViY2FtIGhlYWQgdHJhY2tpbmc%3D
I'm thinking of getting this or the Neo G9. People keep saying you have to adjust the FOV in AC and it will look too much of a fish-eye effect so it's hard to decide.
I know it's a lot to ask but can you list your iRacings settings for this monitor? I had mine setup perfectly until one of the big updates in the past year or two broke them and now I'm having to start from scratch again. Not the graphics settings per say but the monitor and FoV stuff.
Sweet monitor, want one so bad. Just a word of advice, try to not correct the car so much on the exits of the corners. I used to drive the way you do, but then started to drive smoother. It gains you like four to five tenths a lap.
i wanna switch from triples to ultrawide. my question is how hard is it to stream off of? is it simple to get a decent view of the ultrawide into obs for twitch and yt live streams and recordings?
You need to resize the output in OBS and basically cut the edges off so it's normal aspect ratio to the viewers, just make sure you setup your onscreen stuff to be on field of view of OBS and that's it.
had the triples, had the VR, over the many years of simulated driving, the 49" for me is the sweet spot. I bought the first gen 49" from Samsung quite a few years ago and it's still running as sweet as a nut, they're not the biggest layout but it just works. less cabling, less energy, far more compact and easier to live with...
Yeah it can be that way for sure. It’s a bummer. That’s why I practice throughout the week and wait until Saturday to race. The grid is usually 12 to 20 people
i went from triple 34 to triple 32 to 49" oled g9 to 57" g9 neo and now im running triple 50" 120hz tvs. the 49" is not tall enough and the 57" is too much money for what you get. fwiw i got the 57" g9 on sale for 2600 canadian out the door. three 50" tcl QLEd tvs was 1600 plus 100 for hdmi to dp cables. wont go back to anything smaller
I bought the Samsung Odyssey G9 last week for my setup and I can't seem to get the screens aspect ratio to look good on F123. Do you or has anyone got any advice on the setup please? Thanks in advance
Hi Adam. I'm yet to play F123 so wish I could offer more advice and help. I would suggest looking at rhe F123 forums as I'm sure someone has has had the same issue.
@@stuffeyy Hi, no worries - I'll keep checking it out but I don't think the game supports Ultra wide monitors currently. I haven't seen any other discussions on this yet. I've got it set to 16:9 aspect ratio but I have had to move the UI/HUD display as they were all cut off - still seems a bit stretched though.
@@kriaz9916 Hey, yeah so apparently the game doesn't support ultrawide on the menu and flashbacks but it's fine for racing, quali, tts etc. Hopefully they'll bring out an update soon to fix this but at least it works for driving :) Hope this helps
@@adamsteventon7485 yeah it seems to be a common problem where games don’t support ultrawide in menus, but I’m glad to know it works well in game, thanks for the help.
I have three 32 inch monitors and love it. However, they are getting old and one of them is not working sometimes. I can't buy these monitors anymore, they were refurbished when I got them a few years ago. So instead of buying three new monitors I went with a Samsung 49" Odyssey as well. Waiting for it to arrive in the mail next week. VR is great, but definitely a hassle to connect and wear then remove every time I go to the bathroom or kitchen or take the dogs out. So it pretty much collects dust.
There's nothing like a proper (expensive) VR setup... I tried Ultrawide and triples too so I know what I'm talking about. Of course its super expensive, but that monitor is also quite expensive and no monitor can match the total immersion of the VR. VR has its cons as well of course... If you have the oportunity try the HP Reverb G2 at 150% resolution paired with an RTX 4090... You won't find the blurriness of the Quest 2, in fact Quest headsets are not proper PCVR headsets for many reasons being the most important one the lack of Display Port. I pray for the next gen of PCVR headsets to come soon (Quest 3 is not the saviour). Cheers!
VR immersion levels has won out for me, the quest 3 quality has made VR racing (even in ACC) so nice to do but I am not going to lie, I love the monitor and did consider it myself at one point.
There is a way ti move your view back a little get to get more side vision, like mirrors, without changing FoV In a session, when you're out of the car, go into cockpit view and ctrl+F12 then change the x coordinates back and click save car at the bottom The thing to look out for is parts of the car will start getting in the way when looking left/right
Triples are a superior sim racing experience, this is undeniable. But with the space they take and how awkward to manage they are, I can't blame anyone who chooses the ultrawide. My choice is VR, fwiw.
SUW is definitely better than triple screens in games that don’t have true triple monitor support. Any game that does however is much better with triples (ACC, MSFS, ETS/ATS)
unfortunately Assetto Corsa or Comeptitione not offer suoort seting fov for this monitor !!! in Iracing is perfect ..I have both sim but in ACC or AC lose serios time because not see real fov ..
What's the point of your diagonal if you still have a dead zone? Throw your money away, there are already plenty of videos about how increasing the diagonal doesn't change anything at all! The cost of your monitor is like the cost of a triplescreen, where you get rid of dead zones and there is no fisheye effect. Triplescreen or VR, everything else is a compromise
I knew you'd ditch VR and go for UW or triples...would have gone for triples though. I'm surprised being a VR user like yourself, immersion is clearly important, yet you've opted for the option with the least immersion though. Triples would also have been better for all the recording, streaming and overlays too as you can put more on the screens and out the way of your recordings if you don't want to show them. It annoyed me no end not being able to get that right mirror in view too when i briefly had my 49". Enjoy the screen though Scott, check out reddit for settings though as factory settings make the first impressions underwhelming, it's quite washed out and flat looking.
Thanks buddy. I did think of Triples but for a few reasons wasn't ready to make that purchase..one day tho I'm sure 😉 I'll check reddit out for sure, have tinkered a little with the settings to make it more colourful but sure someone has found thst sweet spot for them

Cheers
@@adrianmilanesi9143 What GPU do you pair them with?
Yep I have just tinkered with the positioning the wheel base and the distance of the monitor again so it is closer.
@@stuffeyy hope it made a good difference for you!
This video is making me buy this right now 😂❤
Don't do this! You'll make a mistake, money in the trash. Or three monitors or VR
I wish the right side mirror can be seen in the gt3 class cars.
Hey mate! Great setup and looks a lot like the one I’m looking to build. What’s the height of the table you are using, trying to get and idea if my current table would work or if I need to switch to a separate screen stand.
Cheers!
I think the table is 72" high. The monitor is adjustable in height too with the stand it comes with
congrats on ur new setup :)
Thank you buddy
awesome thinking off doing the same but, what's it like with other crs on the screen
It's funny, because I went from a 34 inch ultra wide to triples because everyone said that was the go.
Now I've come to realise I don't look at either of the screens when I'm racing 😂 eyes are always forward apart from the few times when I've spun and I'm re joining, but that's about it.
Maybe I'll try the 49 inch ultra wide next 🤔 save a bit of GPU usage as well!
there is a 57" ultrawide now too
i honestly dont suggest 57 or ultra wide screens. Its just not as immersive as u would think and it wouldnt be great. I suggest if ur buying the ultrawide screens give the 34s to someone that wants it.. my message to u is be HUMBLE
looks good, whats your eye distance here ?
man, can i give you a tip ??? use a NB monitor piston suport...it holds until 9 kgs....you can use the back of one of your L table, than rotates the motinor to use your table normaly....its pretty handgle to me and you can use the monitor even closer to win more side vision...
Thanks for the advice. Since this video i now have monitor mounts which the montior is atatched to and in the correct postion.
do you ever wish this monitor had more height?
Only issue is that it would be nice to see the mirrors on each side. Also... Not sure it is possible in this racing game but perhaps remove the steering wheel visuals completely and set the seat position in game slightly further back?
I want one and I want it now
I am on the fence myself with going to a monitor from vr. My biggest reason for the vr swapping is on AC it's a stuttery mess the whole time. Just a bad experience. Quest 2, 8700k, 3070.
the immersion you gain in field of view / no bezels you lose in lack of vertical display. most of your peripheral vision is looking at your wall.
And 57"?
@@FG_356 idk.. just seems counter productive for sim racing immersion reasons. It sure looks cool for instagram photos on standalone rigs tho
Can you increase the viewing angle to see the mirrors as well? I think that was the biggest reason I thought about getting a super wide monitor. VR also helps you look through the halo since you can move your head in the cockpit.. Wish Oculus VR 2 was not such a piece of crap.
Yep you can do. FOV is all personal preference.

The g9 gets abit warm mate make sure you got a fan on standby 😉
Can't be as warm as having the Rift S stuck on my face 😂
I'm thinking of getting this or the Neo G9. People keep saying you have to adjust the FOV in AC and it will look too much of a fish-eye effect so it's hard to decide.
I know it's a lot to ask but can you list your iRacings settings for this monitor? I had mine setup perfectly until one of the big updates in the past year or two broke them and now I'm having to start from scratch again. Not the graphics settings per say but the monitor and FoV stuff.
Feel free to join my discord buddy (link in description) I will send you a screenshot pf my settings when I can. Will be a lot easier
Can you use a odyssey for the center monitor then regular monitors left and right?
I'm keeping my G9 and Reverb G2 until triple 32" 4K is viable
I bought the first gen 49" from Samsung quite a few years ago and it's still running as sweet as a nut, they're not the biggest layout but it just works. less cabling, less energy, far more compact and easier to live with...
congrats! unfortunately the f1 fixed series on iracing seem to have suffered even more... now the average grid size is 3-4
Yeah it can be that way for sure. It’s a bummer. That’s why I practice throughout the week and wait until Saturday to race. The grid is usually 12 to 20 people
Thanks buddy and yeah unfortunately it's jtj as popular as it once was for many reasons. Still get a good turnout most UK evenings tho
i went from triple 34 to triple 32 to 49" oled g9 to 57" g9 neo and now im running triple 50" 120hz tvs. the 49" is not tall enough and the 57" is too much money for what you get. fwiw i got the 57" g9 on sale for 2600 canadian out the door. three 50" tcl QLEd tvs was 1600 plus 100 for hdmi to dp cables. wont go back to anything smaller
Is this the 1000R or 1800R version?
@@adamsteventon7485I have got a g9 on the way and my primary game current is f123 and was wondering if you figured out a solution?
@@kriaz9916 Hey, yeah so apparently the game doesn't support ultrawide on the menu and flashbacks but it's fine for racing, quali, tts etc. Hopefully they'll bring out an update soon to fix this but at least it works for driving :) Hope this helps
@@adamsteventon7485 yeah it seems to be a common problem where games don’t support ultrawide in menus, but I’m glad to know it works well in game, thanks for the help.
Even triple has better FOV and cheaper but i will pick 49". Better for other game and office work.
Mirrors are still not visible? Is it custom FOV setting?
Just custom FOV. I also don't have the mirrors turned on as it saves a bit of performance which is needed for me as I record/stream at the same time
@@stuffeyy What fov you have on this video?
I have a 38” 21:9 but the Samsung 57” 32:9 will be my next upgrade.
Is it 1000r or 1800r?
I have three 32 inch monitors and love it. However, they are getting old and one of them is not working sometimes. I can't buy these monitors anymore, they were refurbished when I got them a few years ago. So instead of buying three new monitors I went with a Samsung 49" Odyssey as well. Waiting for it to arrive in the mail next week.
VR is great, but definitely a hassle to connect and wear then remove every time I go to the bathroom or kitchen or take the dogs out. So it pretty much collects dust.
I just get back to single monitor from triples because of my computer.
Same with VR
49 inch curved ultrawide and still cant see left or right mirror 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Pass.
Wow, under 700usd/eur. Not bad.
Still would get new ClubSport DD or DD+ for 700-1000
and Reverb G2 for 250eur instead ;)
There is a way ti move your view back a little get to get more side vision, like mirrors, without changing FoV
In a session, when you're out of the car, go into cockpit view and ctrl+F12 then change the x coordinates back and click save car at the bottom
The thing to look out for is parts of the car will start getting in the way when looking left/right
I'll check it out, thanks Jaymes
Triples are a superior sim racing experience, this is undeniable. But with the space they take and how awkward to manage they are, I can't blame anyone who chooses the ultrawide. My choice is VR, fwiw.
did you get motion sickness with VR?
Only in the first week of use. Then it disappeared
Is it r1800?
luv my 49
Does this mean some AC Mod vids?👀
I'll look into it. This will open more possibilities for content
Clean
whats your i racing fov?
97 as per the in sim calculator
Would you ever consider using a double G9 ultrawide set up?
Haha I would but you need a serious PC so the overall cost would not be feasible for me lol
U look weird from that angle man 😂
Get urself a racing flag it will tell u car on either side. Saves ya lookin 👍🏻🍻
I think its my best angle want you talking about 😂 Yep definitely will add a widget for it
Be careful if you crash you can go flying trough your monitor
SUW is definitely better than triple screens in games that don’t have true triple monitor support. Any game that does however is much better with triples (ACC, MSFS, ETS/ATS)
unfortunately Assetto Corsa or Comeptitione not offer suoort seting fov for this monitor !!! in Iracing is perfect ..I have both sim but in ACC or AC lose serios time because not see real fov ..
Adjust the FOV!!!
bro, you cant see your mirrors :D how the f is it better? If you take 3 55inch 120hz screens you have real live feeling for 500$ more
Should have just bought a Meta Quest 3. They're superb.
You can't even see your virtual mirrors or next hairpin corner. VR and triple screens is still the better setup.
I use VR 100% rather than my samsung 49". However, triple 49" monitors would probably make me move back to triples.
Why so aggressive? Get a grip man 🤦🏾♂️
Give me VR any day.
I did think of Triples but for a few reasons wasn't ready to make that purchase..one day tho I'm sure 😉 I'll check reddit out for sure, have tinkered a little with the settings to make it more colourful but sure someone has found thst sweet spot for them
@@stuffeyy absolutely..it's a lovely screen just needs a bit of tinkering. Keep up the great content mate, less open wheel though ;)
Lmao just hook up the extra monitors on either side 😅
