@@cruelpulse That's not only a huge stretch (nothing against you for suggesting it), but the way Brad keeps bringing it up makes it sound like an actual reference and I have no idea what it is.
Actually, the voice over during the opening credits was not Donald Pleasence's voice. The original little speech he made in the first Halloween movie was tied to the music playing in the back ground, as they filmed it that way, so they couldn't pull it without the music. They ended up having a good friend of Pleasence, who I believe did voice work professionally, come in and dub his voice. So technically we don't really get the audio cameo of Pleasence, it's actually smaller than that, which is pretty sad.
I really appreciate how often Brad points out things that the movie he’s reviewing does well, regardless of how terrible it is overall. It’s very refreshing considering how black and white most reviewers are about this stuff
I guess they are keeping in the tradition of using captain kirk masks for Micheal Myers... the original used William Shatner, and this one looks like Chris Pine.
Fun fact(that's probably already been said 5 years ago); the voice of Loomis wasn't actual audio of Donald Pleasance. Because they couldn't get clean audio they hired voice actor Tom Kane to do voice doubling.
15:12-when that kicked in in the theater back in 1998, I was like "LETS DO THIS!" And I stood up and clapped at the end, thinking, in my youth, that that would be THE END of Halloween. :(
I have a special place in my heart for this movie. Because it got me into the series. Next year a 40 year anniversary movie will come out. They released a promo picture of Jamie Lee Curtis a few weeks ago.
In the original script there are scenes where a student dose a report about Michael Myers Killing Spree between 1988-1995 in the text, then Kari/Laurie responds hearing a student's report on the death of her day daughter Jamie Lloyd, reminding her of the daughter she had abandoned then goes to the restroom, throws up then cries. Ultimately was written but was never shot.
13:08 Snob: "Oh its in the garbage disposal, you deserve whatever bad thing happens to you." Cuts to a clip of him getting sucked into the Jumanji Board Game
Steve Miner said he specifically made small references for the audience to connect this to 4-6, without mentioning Jamie or Thorn by name, to please Akkad. (Newspaper clipping of Jamie's scissors, Laurie's offscreen 'death' explained, and setting the intro in a different town where they wouldn't know about it). Fans made up the "new timeline" nonsense and made it a generally accepted, but false, "fact". The only time any of the filmmakers actually said anything about a new timeline was with Halloween (2018). In early 2018, the directors confirmed it is an "alternate continuity" spinoff, unrelated to the original timeline, making both still canon.
Except in this one, they never found Michael's body in the hospital from part 2, while in part 4, they did and he was in a coma for years. And the thorn cult is not actually around ever again so...yeah, if it's not an alternate timeline, it's just a bunch of plotholes and bullshit. So it doesn't really fucking matter, either way the series is fucked.
Scream had its charms, and it was snarky but it tried new spins on old formulas. The sequels... yeah, not so much. The quality slide on the Scream sequels was pretty bad. If you want to tackle a real trainwreck from that era you have to look to Sceam's smellier, dumber, Clint Howard-esque little brother series - I Know What You Did Last Summer. That series started off pretty bad and just kept digging itself deeper into the shitpit. I.K.W.Y.D.L.S. might be getting a reboot soon, so it would be timely, too.
cptnsquires no it wont be. If they make a movie in 2018, which they actually are, it can be called that. Halloween is from 1978, h20 is 20 years later, 1998, so why would H40 be 2020?

I have disagree, H20 is damn fine movie. Not up there with the first two or maybe even 4, still better than most horror franchises. The fight between Laurie and Micheal just needed to be longer.
Agreed besides it's hard to tell a story that happens a whole lot later for a horror movie when a somewhat main character (Dr.loomis) dies and don't forget the thorn movies but nothing is a worse of how much they changed the Texas chainsaw franchise man that's worse then not having Kane hodder as Jason in Freddy vs Jason
I literally just happened to rewatch this last night. Do I have some sort of clairvoyant powers...but I can only sense what the next episode of Cinema Snob is supposed to be? With great power...
Two Halloween reviews this month ? Between that and the very likely Jason goes to Hell (cause Friday the 13th), this October will be very slasher-oriented.
Fan Theory: After the events of H6 Michael dissappeared he found and killed The other survivers from the movie. Loomis, who was now Michael's guardian, spent the rest of his life reclusively trying to track down where Michael dissappeared to. Michael knew where he lived but chose to leave him alone out of respect. After Loomis died Michael returned as we saw in H20's intro to find Laurie... At least thats cannon in my mind.
I almost forgot that we were due a Halloween flick this year. Glad I forgot because this was a pleasant surprise, even if we're into the REALLY bad Halloween flicks by this point. And the end of the month will have one of the worst of them all.
While I do like H20 for bringing Laurie back and kicking Michael's ass once and for all, I won't lie that it hasn't aged too well. Why the hell is this more Scream than Halloween? I know Williamson was involved in this and that it was released after the first two Screams brought interest back to the slasher, but none of them would be around without Halloween's influence. Also, was it really that hard to get past sound clips of Donald Pleasance saying his famous monologue on Michael? At least this is still better than Resurrection.
Cinema Snob is back to horror again and absolutely killing it on the commentary! And the usage from other movie clips and sound bites in this review are excellent as well. Definitely one of his best shows right here.
2 reasons I found this review fitting. One: it's Halloween month duh and Two: There's going to be another Halloween Reboot that will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the original Halloween movie and Jamie Lee Curtis will return as Laurie Strode (meaning her death in Halloween Resurrection will probably be negated) next year.
It is impossible to ignore how 90's this movie is, but honestly, I think it would have worked as the final Halloween film. It's not particularly good, but it gave Laurie some closure. And then...Halloween: Resurrection happened. Fuck the entirety of that movie.
This is probably one of the best slasher movies Brads ever reviewed on the show honestly. I'd say it's easily the best of Halloween sequels. Though 4-6, Resurrection and The Rob Zombie movies really aren't very strong competition.
Great episode, Can't wait to hear your thoughts on "Halloween:Resurrection" later this month. Funny how this film series has an almost more bastardized timeline then Fox's "X-Men" movies. I will say the death scenes in this movie are pretty brutal, with the girl being stabbed and hung, Joseph Gordon Levitt getting that ice skate shoved in his face, and Lauire beheading Michael (which was decapitated Medic Ex-Machina in the next installment). Also the title is a bit misleading, "Halloween H20"? I thought this was gonna be an infomercial about "Halloween Water". The one refreshing drink to celebrate all hallow's eve. Comes in 5 delicious flavors, Candy Bar, Pumpkin, Toilet Paper, Shaving Cream, and Rotten Egg. Disappointing. LOL
The "voice over" from the intro was not from the first film but some guy who did an impression of Donald Pleasance because they couldn't afford the rights to use actual sound from the original Halloween (for some reason).
GasmaskAvenger oh hell no. Ressurectum is one of the worst big franchise horror films there ever was. Busta rhymes karate kicking michael myers while saying "hi-yah!" ? Shake my damn head.
With the Halloween series near its end (unless the Snob does the Rob Zombie reboot films), I hope he turns his attention to Chucky at some point. I know Nostalgia Critic an Phelous did the original trilogy, but they never got around to the rest of the series (Bride, Seed, Curse and Cult of Chucky).
First time I watched this one I thought it played out like a Lifetime movie or some shit like that. At the time, I was just glad to see a new Halloween and the damn violins were horrible...Another great one, Snob!!
That voice-over of the Loomis speech isn't from any previous movie. The dialog is from Halloween 1, but the guy talking isn't actually Donald Pleasence. They couldn't use the H1 clip for whatever reason, so they had a voice actor redo it mimicking Pleasence's voice.
So, let me get this straight: - we get another Halloween review - Friday the 13th is coming up, so we may get Jason Goes to Hell the week after? - It's also the 30th anniversary of Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors, so we may round out the month with this review?! When you first made the SANFORD & SON reference I was already laughing but it made me laugh even harder when I first thought it was a scene of Michael driving. I don't know why, but Michael obeying traffic signals is very humorous to me. I think of him putting on his turning signal & laugh.
H20 is what happens when Hollywood completely takes control over what has been a rather dark and gritty horror franchise and makes it become as casual and PG-13 friendly as possible. I do give it credit for being better than H5 but that's not saying much.
Fun fact: This is the only Halloween film to not have a scene that takes place in a hospital/clinic/nut-house of any kind.
It's also the only Halloween movie to feature Michael Myers wearing a CGI mask!
That audio cameo from Loomis isn't actually Donald Pleasance , it's actually voice actor Tom Kane.
