ALL religions are a - by our standards - primitive attempts to "do science". As early communities observed their environment, questions were born that were impossible to get answers for. Therefore, lightning, floods, plagues and so on, became anthropomorphized beings because no other "answer" was available. Over time these stories were spread and traded and re-worked until we have what we see today.
Thankfully our sciences have much more successful at explaining these sorts of events; making life difficult for theism and faith.

The Hindu at 22:20 really has my favorite perspective on the discussion and the importance of the mystical experience and how attempting to describe it creates religions and I would go further and say that religions are the perverse representation of something indescribable and the act of trying to bring others to have a mystical experience almost always fails.
Shouldn't religion is an inward experience rather than outward experience like Islam and Christianity. Hinduism promotes seeking of your connection within yourself and you can choose any ways which is suitable which comes to all those gods and goddesses where they are the spiritual focus point rather than god or powerful being.
But how can you ever know what another person is feeling? You can't possibly judge their experience as a failure. Are you comparing yourself to yourself?

Born a Christian but travelled to India and lived their for 20 years and ended up converting to hinduism. It's funny how ppl label us Hindus. The term Hindu is never used in any of the texts or scriptures to denote religion or way of life. It was used to refer to ppl that lived from the Himalayas (Hee) to the Indus valley(Indus), hence Hindus which has been pronounced differently for centuries due the different accents of the invaders from the time moguls invaded the country.

As a Buddhist, I would like to say that following any religion is good as long as you do not execise extremism and try to shove it down another's throat. According, to your knowledge and personal belief you could follow a religion of your choice, especially, to do good to the self and fellow beings with zero harm or hatred.

It really bothers me how agitated most of the participants are. How threatened most are by any scepticism or contradiction. it bothers me that none believers are equally aggressive asserting their position. I have convictions but feel no urge to assert my beliefs especially if I notice hostility or anxiety. I imagine most of us struggle with existential questions though in different ways. That is part of our common humanity. I am happy that over time and place we have been imaginative in responding to that curiosity ,that Questioning and need to find deeper meaning beyond the immediate and our individual selves. Its ok to be on separate paths so long as we respect that difference and avoid hostility.

Religion is a tribal group identity based upon tribal instincts. This is the basis of the conflict in discussions. Our tribalism is us/them, you are with us or against us. Not accepting a religious belief is usually seen as hostile. If religions as a tenet of their faith didn't require others to conform and join, nonbelievers wouldn't have to strongly defend their positions. It's nice that nonbelievers are no longer tortured or killed.

Whole discussion started with a wrong perception - Monotheism as a superior belief. Shankaracharya proposed Advitha philosophy around 700 BC. He believed God is one undefinable called Brahman. He is Omnipotent, Omnipresent from where polytheism is evolved.
Shankara doesn't teach Polytheism and no sound philosopher teaches absolute Polytheism.
He taught Monism and Polymorphic Monotheism as far as Ishvara goes at a Vyavaharika level.
And on the 6th day Man created God
To help see things we can't explain
To use his laws to cast our blame
And to wage our battles in his name.

There could very well be a god or whatever beyond what we are able to perceive now, but to run around and claim to know this stuff is incredibly delusional. For example; an atheist (referencing science) will say we (all living things) are made up of cells, which are made of (mostly) water, therefore we and all living things are made of water, how do they know this? Only after the most recent invention of the microscope they could see that which cannot be seen by the naked eye (cells). It's illogical for a perfect immortal being to have goals and wishes. Wishing something means that you want something that is missing in your life. What goals could a perfect and immortal being have? Why would "he" care about anything if everything is what he has as a perfect being?
Nope. Just a viewpoint that perfection, omnipotence and immortally is in direct contradiction with human nature, therefore, it's impossible to make connections between them.
Any kind of deism makes no sense because such "being" doesn't do anything. It has no identity. It's good as dead.
