Love the II. Just a thought - The car was already old when it was 10 years old. Then it ran until it was 22 years old. After another 23 years of sitting, you drive it at 3500 RPM for a couple hundred miles on the highway. All I have to say is: You are a brave man. I have to see more of this. Subscribed!

    • @shanevanlandingham8569
      @shanevanlandingham8569 21 วันที่ผ่านมา

I gotta agree. You even pointed out the dried kwik seal while replacing the water pump. Waited days for the clutch yet never checked the head gaskets. Not even a compression test. The car keeps blowing steam out the overflow and the answer is to take it on a couple hundred mile road trip at the aforementioned 3500 rpm average. Lol. That is extremely brave. Then again... I guess it's Jesse's car. Love the car. Have since watching Charlie's angels as a kid.

That's a cool car, Dalton. Back in about 1982, the Ford dealer took a red King Cobra in on trade. It looked like it just came off the showroom floor, extremely nice. It had t-tops and a 4 speed. I got to drive it for a while and had a lot of fun in it. Good times.

It was well worth waiting for this video. Resurrecting such a cool, iconic car is a good thing in anybody's book. The Mustang II never got much love, but the King Cobra was awesome. It is a shame so few were made (under 4000, if memory serves), but it also makes them a bit more special. There was a blue with red accents, one in my old neighborhood that always got my attention as a kid when I saw it.
My Mom had a 79 Fox Body Cobra with the 2.3 Turbo. It was a bit of a gutless, damp squid, but it looked cool and had a TURBO. It spooled up nicely, and my Dad added water injection to control its propensity to ping on boost. It only ever drank Gasohol from a local Mohawk fuel station, which made it much better than regular pump fuel.
I am really looking forward to the next installment of your King Cobra. Are you just going to paint, or will it be treated to a complete decal kit? The white and Blue look spectacular.
Well done Jesse and JD for all their input too. You all seem very much in sync, and it makes for great content.
    Best,
    Neil :-)

Looks like you left off the “Pinto go Boom! Shield when you put the new gas tank in the Mustang Cobra. Now your no longer NHTSA recall compliant. (The KA-Boom shield is that shield that went between the gas tank and rear differential.) Keeps the rear differential from punching a hole in the tank and sparking a fire of passion erupting with an encounter between the Mustang and an old Ford Probe.

Haven't watched it yet, just saw the notification (Since I find notifications loathsome and disable them on my phone for everything except texts and calls), but I already know this is gonna be a good one. The hell you and other youtubers reviving cars like these go through keeps me going working on my old garbage. Keep up the great work, all of you, JD and Jess included.
Videos like these keep me motivated even though I can be a bit of an idiot at times and forget the simplest things like how I did a dumb and forgot that the water pump runs off the power steering, and not the alternator, and my truck ain't got no power steering (I didn't forget it didn't have power steering, that's intentional, and factory, I want a 1 belt simple as hell V8 4 speed rat rod truck). There aren't many junkyards around with old American iron that I can access on a whim, or access at all, sooooo, I had to spend money on gaudy pulleys on a greaseball engine, that's always fun. I'm gonna try and see if I can make it run off a Chevy style 3 wire alternator converted to a 1 wire or just get my Mopar alternator converted to 1 wire. Oh yeah and my 318 had the heavy duty alternator, which is the big SOB with two pulleys, so that's fun.

Sometimes the more unloved models are the best ones because there is less guilt when just driving and enjoying them, plus you get to be different from everyone else.

Glad to see you save this Cobra 2! My brother had one when he was 19 and I was 14 and I always wanted it. He wound up selling it to a guy that made it into a racecar. They were ahead of their time as far as looks go IMO.

I had one these for one of my first cars. Cobra2. I like them with the V8 and air shocks, jacked up in back with big fat tires. I had mine like that and haven't seen many like it. Good luck with yours

When I was a kid I think I was 10 to 12 My brother had a 1978 white with blue Cobra II. His head factory aluminum slots. And being as a kid and going for a ride in it I thought I was cool lol And it had some upgrades like the four barrel black leather interior four on the floor. And he could never get third gear rubber but my other brother who was 17 at the time could lol And it made him mad. I'll always remember that car and this brings back some good memories for me. Thank you I am a new subscriber

Don't know if this will even get your way but if you want those wheels clean get some paint stripper and soak them in it, that yellow gunk is decaying clear coat, a lot of aluminum/mag wheels were done that way for a LONG time and unfortunately that stuff is pretty stubborn, they put it on to prevent the aluminum from tarnishing.
I had a set of cadillac wheels that had started yellowing like that and hit them with stripper, polished them back out to a shine and threw some car wax on them with a clean polishing rag, they've stayed shiny and fairly clean for the last few years.
Hope it helps, give a fella a shout if you're ever in northeast oklahoma and need some help

Thanks for creating this content it gives me the ambition to complete the second half of my own similar will-it-run video...
I pulled my own white 1978 Sunbird Formula, out of its 10-year corner barn parking spot, and V8 swapped a nearly identical formula Sunbird that I couldn't save.
Its amazing how many similarities their are with the Fomoco IIs and the GM H body cars.

*this mustang is very rare that is a king Cobra Mustang which was the hottest of the bunch back then above the Cobra ii package the king cobra is very valuable depending on the condition and it's extremely rare to see an original one you should definitely put the original graphics on it to make it stand out more the overall this thing is solid!*

Ohmygosh!!! You are hilarious! I’m 56 and know nothing about cars. My daddy was a heavy equipment mechanic, but I guess being a girl, he didn’t extend his knowledge to me. I have no idea what you are talking about but I love how involved your family is with your project. Totally entertaining! Love your content!

Had one of these as my first car. It wasn't a king cobra but a mustang II. Had some fun in it and it had issues. Your video took me back for sure. Those aftermarket valve covers were an issue for me too.

Dalton another amazing video! I am a ford enthusiast and collector myself. Those Mustang ll’s have been a guilty pleasure of mine for a long time. I have had several of those 78’s myself, and I agree that yours was extremely clean…..much cleaner than what I have found in the Cincinnati area.
It’s a shame that T-top had to be relegated to a parts car, but you were correct in your assumption of its damage. I have tried to correct similar damage on prior 74-78’s, and they are never right afterwards. The way the front frame, and geometry is in the front of them they were never made to sustain low and hard impacts. If I had to guess I would say the control arm tabs are bent for sure, as well as every piece of suspension.

20:50 Those braces came only on the T-top units. The battery side ones are highly sought after. Good idea to install it on the King anyhow.

Thanks for the water tip, I just started a 1987 BMW after 6 years abandoned and the atf/acetone did nothing for it, it's a smoker, as soon as I replace the rotted out freeze plugs and get it running for more than a few seconds I'll try it.

that small tank was an option that added IIRC 3 gallons of extra gas, I added one from the special options list one when I special ordered a Mach 1 variant in 1976 from my dealer, it gave me an extra 50 to 75 miles till I needed to fill up when on long trips

I love these little cars , They are almost 300 - 500 lbs lighter then most Mustangs and back in High School , a simple 289 or 302 with good heads, cam intake and carb with headers would send these thru the 1/4 in the high 11's with a narrowed 4:30 nine inch rear and a top loader tranny . Nothing could touch these on the street 👍

I've watched your channel and junkyarddigs as well one thing yall can make up is a chain breaker like get a bar weld a long heavy duty chain to and a way you can tighten the chain in place after wrapping it around the crank instead of having to struggle with a breaker bar would making breaking engines free alittle more easier. Keep up the great work, yall. I've learned a lot about classics, which I'm obsessed with kinda my hobby on my days off.

such memories. had a 75 coupe with the 302, but auto c4 with a shift kit,, was really quick off the line.. put a holley 4 barrel, dart heads, edlebrock performer intake.. so fun to drive. c4 had to be rebuilt every few years. i was so hard on that car.. it would peg the speedo at 120.
