    This is a remarkable device, regardless of price. The interface is completely intuitive, it’s very well made - solid! Super flexible and Zoom’s Guitar Lab software for your computer is really nicely designed. Very easy to update your board and configure with new patches or effects. Best of all is that Zoom continues to push out new patches and effects years after the release.
    I love the format - acts like three pedals on a pedalboard. Very easy to use on the fly.
    Sure - there are individual pedals with drippingly gorgeous tones at heinous prices that kill this device in sound, but as a complete package with an incredible array of effects this product is on its own. The remarkable price is just the cherry on top.

      Greetings, as they say. Just wondering whether this pedal works well when connected to a basic combo (or otherwise) amp. I presume one needs to switch off all the amp and cab sims in that case. So I guess what I am asking is if it works well purely as a bunch of effects pedals.

    • @nazmoking3171

    This is a fabulous device. I hardly looked at the manual, and had the hang of it in 5 minutes. IT IS INTUITIVE. Easy. After 10 minutes and a few glances at the manual, I could do everything. Very easy to use, wonderful to edit on, download the firmware upgrade and install (EASY) and you've got a pile more effects beyond what it came with. The software allows you to move patches and effects where ever you want, although editing must be done on the unit. I paid $125 new for mine-
    it's 21st century, and maybe the last effects box you'll ever need. Oh, and the sound quality is stellar. Want to run on a battery? Simple, I ran mine on a single 9 volt rechargeable by simple hooking up a plug toa battery. Want longer battery power? Hook 2 or three up in series, or use AA batteries. (Or just use the included AC cord- big deal, you
    have to plug in your amp don't you?) This is an outrageous device for the money. Three thumbs up. :-) No frustration at all, exactly the opposite. This is going to be the #1 effects unit in the world, mark my word. See my youtube videos for lots of fun: th-cam.com/users/neilslade

    It's nice to see Zoom making sturdier units that don't cost an arm and a leg now. I use to have a Zoom 3030 that I ADORED!!! That thing had some of the most unique guitar tones out there and even had an expression pedal. Unfortunately it was made of cheap plastic and after a few years of heavy use it eventually broke on me which really sucked as they had stopped making it at that point. Thankfully it paid for itself in great gigs and recordings that I still listen to with great nostalgia and memories of that little Zoom unit. Before that I had the original Zoom 9000 "wonder wedge" that as Rob and Lee mentioned, didn't sound great, but was extremely innovative at the time.
    These days I still use my old Zoom 5000 driver pedal which I regard as one of the finest distortion pedals for heavy metal ever made. That fine pedal is built like a tank thankfully.
    I also still use in my home studio, the Zoom 9150 Valve DSP rack unit which is a fantastic but little-known preamp/FX processor. The clean sounds generally suck on it, but the distortion tones are out of this world.
    After hearing the sounds of this unit on this video, I may just end up getting these but only if the direct sounds via USB sound decent. Often I just want to plug in and record into my computer without fussing about with amps, microphones, and mic preamps, especially when the muse hits me suddenly. So this unit might fit the bill. But I'm sad that they didn't show the direct sound. Also they didn't mention if whether the drum sounds at the beginning were built into the unit or not. So yeah, they could have improved on the video by showcasing those things. But aside from that it was a great video.

    This thing is great! I just got the g3n as a wedding present and I’m really happy with it. Eventually I’d like to upgrade to a model with the pedal, either the g3xn or the g5n, but honestly the g3n does everything I’d like a pedal like this to do. My only comment on it is some of the presets and effects are way louder than others. It has a master volume, but you want to set that so the bypass is the same volume as your amp, so you can’t mess with that too much. Instead, each patch has an individual master volume that can be accessed through patch settings. So you have to take the time to go through every setting and adjust the levels to even it all out, which consists of turning most of them down a fair bit. That also means every new patch you create has to be balanced with all the others. So you have to spend a bit of time dialing in the levels with everything. Once you’ve don’t that though, this pedal really shines and can’t be beat for the money.

  • @kevinsteele7232
    @kevinsteele7232 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Not sure what Zoom was thinking here. Depends on how you want to use this, but for me it's a big step back from the original G3/x. No balanced out, no passive active/switch, no pre/post switch, no ground switch. Various control switches from the top panel are now menu driven.
    For me (home use only) no dedicated headphones means I can't use it with a Trio+ (I know, there are phone on the Trio+, but they are shocking). A lot of the effects, amps, cabs use more than one 'unit' (the three little screens). The various looper modes occupy either one or two units - and you can't change a patch during looping, so you have to use the looper in stomp mode and accept that you'll only have one or two effects available to switch on and off. All of this means that in stomp mode (ie. basic WYSIWYG mode) it's almost useless. Positives... it looks nice.
    Mine is going back, exchanged for a Digitech RP360, whose only limitation for a bedroom player is that the drums won't play during looping... enter Mr Trio.

    I smell shootout! Zoom G3Xn v. Boss GT1... :D
    I gave up on Zoom years and years ago, but this one looks like it has one of the most intuitive interfaces on these kind of multi-effects units I have ever seen. Gotta try it now...
    Definitely need to hear those presets in person...! But ATM, this one at that ridiculous price seems like a no-brainer. Just another tool in the arsenal...

    These new Zoom pedals are very solid (heavy weight, metal boxes), and the LCD screens are easy to see in a live situation. I really like most of the patches, and for the price, they have to be the best bang for the buck on the market today.

    There's a lot of gear snobbery and unnecessary preconceptions about gear throughout the guitarist community. Despite this, I've never heard anyone with a bad word about Zoom pedals. Yes they eat batteries, but value for money is mad with these pedals. Still use an original G3 on my board and in the effects loop and it does it's job perfectly.

    After watching this video, I immediately bought the bigger model G5n and after playing with it for only a few hours, I can already say this is definitely worth the money. Easily the most intuitive and easy to navigate multi-fx unit I've ever tried. Presets sound pretty good and making your own patch is easy if you prefer that method. The only negative thing I can say is the high gain sounds aren't amazing, but I'm sure that after a few more days with it, I'll be able to tweak it a little more and hopefully get a passable metal tone out of it. 9/10 Would recommend.

    Love the work you do guys. I just picked up the g5n....two weeks ago. Been playing since the 80's, and have gigged, up until last weekend, with an orange tube amp into a Marshall built quad box., with a massive pedal board of tasty commercial and boutique stomps. So what's changed? The amazing zoom pedal board, direct into the PA delivers a quality of tone, and a reliability of mix, that I have struggled to achieve from venue to venue. Once properly set up (ditching most of the factory patches), I've gone from a die hard tube head, to a complete convert. What does it deliver? Simple 3 plug gig setup. Power. Guitar in. PA out. I'm done and ready for sound check. Love it. Also, something that is often missed when this zoom range is discussed. All the cabs, both built in and downloaded, feature a MIC setting, which is actually an impulse response. Sure, you can't import your own IR's, but really, with the range of cabs available, why would you want to. All I can say is if you play, get one. A G3n or a G5n. This thing sounds so good, is so easy to use, you will play more, with more confidence, and it will make you a better player. :)

    Rob it´s a pleasure to hear you playing ``normal´´.
    In the last years/months you got so djent & dropped, in fact it seams like they hide your skills, harmony, ``grace´´... your palette of flavours.
    You have a touch of EVH chord inversion style seasoning on your playing, when going to the ``dark side´´ (djent & drop tuning), it get lost. A shame. Maybe it´s the fashion of the day.
    Anyway you still rock man.

      There seems to be a great hype.
      I have seen dozens of reviews of the GT-1 and to me it seems this one here sounds way better.
      Also the Gt-1 only has the 3 switches, which is extremely limiting for a multi-fx unit.

    • @napalmhardcore
      @napalmhardcore 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      To be fair, the GT-1 has had loads of attention from the moment it launched despite being rehashed tech from the GT-100. Zoom updated the G series long before that and got no attention from the bigger channels for months despite basically going back to the drawing board and starting from scratch with all new modeling. Zoom deserves a little bit of the limelight without the GT-1 stealing all its thunder.

    • @apfelmistnutte
      @apfelmistnutte 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      yeah, but if i want to decide which one to buy, i'd love to see the same people reviewing it. because i don't really care about the little price difference, as long as i know which one does the job for me.

    • @napalmhardcore
      @napalmhardcore 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Fair enough. I just feel sympathy for Zoom as they've largely been overlooked despite offering completely new modeling. The GT-1 is like a hybrid of the GT-100 and the ME-80, both of which have been out for a long time (when it comes to digital pedals).
      I would personally like to see the next generation of modeling tech from Boss, Digitech, Vox etc and I think the GT-1 has received more attention than it deserves. I'm not saying it's a bad pedal. Just saying I'd like to see things move forward.

      Any comparably priced all-in-one-box FX units with decent overdrive and better amp sims for a DAWLESS home studio guy that is not fond of metal or outer space sounds or any other genre except 60’s/70’s Classic Rock? Think Ron Wood/T-Rex and Dan Baird and maybe some 60’s revival Britpop. Overdrive yes, distortion: not really. Gary Moore, yes. EVH, no. I know I’m asking a lot. Thanks.

I know this is about the Zoom G3Xn but now I have something from the top end and bottom end (I still have my original Digitech RP90 from 2008) and I would say this is a great value for that kind of money. This Helix is friggin' crazy cool and the finest multi-effects unit ever created. But this Zoom would be a great thing to throw into a bag for a weekend at the lake and give you all you need for jamming around the firepit at night.
