  • This is the full review of the newly announced Fanatec Clubsport Wheelbase V2 model. The original V1 model was one of the most loved wheel in the sim racing market. And despite the success of the wheel Fanatec went back to the drawing board and made several large improvements to the wheel. This new design comes at a slightly higher price, but gives you more wheel for the money.
    In this review we cover all of the important details about this new wheelbase. We look at the differences between the old model and the new one. And we take a detailed look at the wheel both inside and out. By the end of the review you ought to know everything there is to know about the Clubsport V2 wheelbase, including which wheel rims will work with the base.

    Nice video ! Good job of fitting so much info into such a short video. I think you coverd all the key pilots as well, be awsome if you can do some more demonstration's of it in different driving situation's for example when drifting.
    I wanted to add, I like how you contrasted it with the other wheels on the market, explained that you only get the base and also briefly mentioned what its like compared to a servo wheel.
    I think many people as well as myself appreciate the work that you put into this video !
    I just need to get my filthy hands on one now :)

    I appreciate the informative review. For whatever reason I never really knew anything about Fanatec and your coverage has really shown me what they have to offer and their quality. I started out on a DFGT and have recently moved up to the TX and it has exceeded my expectations and finally offers a full sim racing experience but I can definitely see myself going all out Fanatec in the future. I hate how it's impossible for one wheel to work on all consoles and was thinking why don't they make wheel rims that are proprietary to a console over locking the whole wheel base out. Obviously Thrustmaster is going the other route and making a wheel for each console and I don't even know if Logitech is still in the racing wheel business but I was amazed that Fanatec is doing exactly what I wanted with offering console specific wheel rims. To me that makes the higher price of the base worth the versatility and of course the great quality and great add ons Fanatec offers. Now I need to sell my car and buy all their products lol.

    Quick release not so quick? Why do you use the little pin thing. I have the V1 and have never used that pin and the rim has 0 movement compared to the shaft..and being an aircraft engineer I know what a lose connection feels like. Do youself a favor and get ride of the pin!

    • @JohnGeorgeHill
      @JohnGeorgeHill 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not a good idea Greg. I also have the V1 base with a Formula rim. I too left the pin out. It was on very tight, with no play, but several months into using it, I suddenly started missing shifts when I used the paddles. Eventually it stopped shifting altogether. I scoured the forums, and I read that some people had the same problem and suggested to put the screw in. I did, and the shifting fixed itself. Fanatec now recommends using the pin. Even though I had NO play, not putting the pin in, temporarily messed up my wheel. It shouldn't happen, but it did. Next base I get, I will be doing the same thing and installing the retaining pin.

Every review fails to mention you are getting just a base for 599

    The T500RS is a lot cheaper in europe.
    And to be honest, I am not even sure, the clubsport is much better.
    Imo Fanatec is too expensive.

    • @DG53
      @DG53 10 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Clubsport is much better, I have both wheels at my work, for the type of work I do, I have almost any wheel, and the V2 is by far the best.. It is expensive yes, but it is worth it. Never tried a direct drive servo wheel, but that would be really too expensive for now, and kind of useless if only for common simracing, more for real racing teams with expensive simulators.

    • @uHuDNE
      @uHuDNE 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      DG53 But is it much of a difference?
      I mean the FFB of the T500RS is already very strong and fast.
      Is it about the accuracy?
      Does it really make that big of a difference?

    • @DG53
      @DG53 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      it is stronger, but it is much faster, and more precise, no deadzone or cogging really possible to feel, is just very very good, as i said, is the closest to a direct drive wheel

      What about the T300 or TX, have you tried any of those, how does it compare to Thrustmasters brushless motor models?

    • @DG53
      @DG53 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      I tried the TX and the T500, soon i'll try the T300. T500 is stronger, but both have the same precision. Both need a better rim than the original they ship with, a 458 gte addon would be a good one. Obviously the TX has really poor pedals, and you either find on the net a set of used t500 pedals or get the 3 pedals set upgrade. Overall, the T500 to me feels more, consistent, whereas the TX a bit of a toy

      A Simcube OSW isn't that much more expensive than a CS wheel base and by every account I've ever read, it is significantly better than the Fanatec. Makes the CS wheel base one of the worst deals on the market and that's not even getting into Fanatec's extremely poor reputation for reliability and poor customer service.

    Anybody wondering about the quick release..? The quick release is just that. A quick release. No pin required..quick and simple. I don't understand why some reviews say it still requires a pin. Maybe some early reviews copies still required it?
    The mechanism is not sloppy, it's firm and precise. The hub is well greased from the factory so it's very smooth when taking it off and on.
    I don't think a lot of people know how to hold it when they remove it. It's all about how you hold it when removing. When removing sit in your driving position. Don't try and do it from behind or the side. It's very difficult when attempting it like that.

    Here is the main reasons why I absolutely HATE living in Europe:
    Right now the premium steering wheels like GT, Drift, Oval etc. cost 400$ US for people who order from America. If you buy the same product in Europe you pay 480€, that's 509 $ US! Exact same product, 27% more expensive - from a company based in central Europe. I don't blame Fanatec, it's an issue with all electronics here. We just get VAT-taxed into oblivion.

Or the TX458 Italia with the extra GTE ferrari wheel ,429.00 shipped on Amazon These already have hall effect sensor,brushless motors,dual belt drive, and (laugh) fan cooling , a manual, and firmware,software updates. Or a Fanatech with one of their only cheap steering wheels the BMW or F1 carbon will run you 750.00 on special right now if you have an invite. LOL

    Would really love to see a direct drive Fanatec / Thrustmaster wheel. If they could find a way to make those motors affordable ($500 wheelbase), it'll just blow away all the rest. That means finding a servo costing around $150-$200, with enough strength and precision, and building a wheelbase around it. Not sure if possible though, those servo motors are really expensive.

    The ts500 is half of the price of this wheel (base + wheel) and the accuforce will be double and you have tested them all, right?

    About servo motor(s) - doesn't G27 have had two of those for a long time already?
    At least that's what the specs say.
    Well maybe it's the down at G27 - the centering is feeling strange.
    It might come from the TWO servo motors imo - guess 1 would have been much better.

    Ok. Don't hunt me down because of a possible stupid question hear but. I have the csr forza wheel. How big of a difference is this wheel compared to mine. Does iracing feel different between these two. Or should I not fork out the money because the difference in the way the racing feel won't be different. I don't want to spend the money and say this doesn't feel any different than what I had.

    I would also love to see what they could do with a Direct Drive wheelbase, and how affordable they could make it.

    Great videos...Question...I actually drive slightly better (we are talking a couple tenths here) with the Thrustmaster T500RS than I do with the Fanatec Clubsport Wheel V1. The T500 is not as smooth as the CSW V1 and possibly not as instantaneous either, but it's (T500) extra power/torque, rotation speed, and just the way it outputs the FFB in a more obvious and "in your face" style, makes me just that touch faster with it when really looking for that last 0.1 - 0.25 seconds...
    - How does the CSW V2 compare with the T500 (in terms of pure driving, not build quality, aesthetics, price, warranty, cooling, plastic/metal, leather/rubber, etc. just the pure driving and FFB itself)?
    - I'm assuming that the CSW V2 caught-up to the T500 and possibly even passed it in terms of raw power/torque output?
    -What about the V2's top rotational speed (which I think suffered quite a bit on the CSW V1 even though it's very, very initial reactions were probably superior to the T500)?
    - What about the general "style" of FFB? If you were to setup the V2 so that it's torque/power output was the same as the V1, would the FFB of the V2 still feel slightly more "obvious" and less "muted" than the V1? In other words, if the V2 was setup to output the same amount of power as the V1 (through the in-game or wheel's control panel power adjustment), would it then feel hardly different to the V1 (other than just smoother due to the brushless motors) or does it have a different FFB feel even when setup to output along the same lines of power as the V1?
    I hope you can answer these questions. I am extremely picky and extremely sensitive to different FFB, and having these 4 questions answered would really make a big difference for me, and would be VERY much appreciated.
    Thank you kindly.

    Great Review Shaun.
    I wish Fanatec would develop a FF HOTAS Flight System according to the fantastic quality of the Clubsport.

    Hello geniuses, I am very interested in this Wheel. T500RS and just have the game in PS4, I wonder if I notice a difference in the FF and the driving feel. Worth the change or stay with T500RS?
    Greetings!
    PS: Sorry for my English, I use a translator.

      @johnulmerRacing 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Leonardo Daniel Rodriguez Yes. However, if I were you, I would simply replace the T500 wheel base with the TX wheel base. That way you can upgrade to a servo motor wheel without having to buy a complete package.

      +Guenounovitch Is the t300 the best wheel? I just ordered a t300RS that's the same thing right? Will I be blown away? I'm coming off a G25.

      +snowblindu Most games like those don't use the wheel to it's best ability... I'm sure you found that out already though.

      +Guenounovitch i have dirt rally on ps4 its a great game but my god its diffucult to drive fast and drift at the same time to every 2 meter wide track at the corners with insanely speed. i got somuch respect for the people who can do this in real life

      @@jeff-pt7kn wow I totally forgot about that question 2 months ago lol. I ended up buying à CSL DD. I got it new in the box from someone who preordered 2. If you have something to race with, it is worth it to just order ut and wait a few months to get it.

    Sean, why do you keep comparing this $500 V2 base to a $4,000 Bodnar and such? Do you compare the similarily priced Thrustmaster T500RS , T300RS , TX, Madcatz Pro to Direct Drive wheels in their reviews? Or are you just carrying on the biased tradition that gangi started?

    • @keithpayne7361

      $4000? Holy smokes you can buy a decent car for that lol

    • @DJK83
      @DJK83 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I know this is a really late reply, but it's very important to note that Thomas from Fanatec has said things to suggest that the CSW V2 delivers performance that's close to that of the direct drive wheels. The product page even claims that it "...feels almost like a direct drive wheel." Plus, Fanatec has chosen to call the CSW V2 a "servo wheel" to further conflate it with the direct drive wheels. Therefore, it's only fair for Shaun to put those bold claims to the test.

    Shaun please do something about your mic or audiolevels, ever since inside sim racing you guys have had somewhat distorted audio, how can you not have corrected that yet? Please for the sake of your viewers ears get some high quality audio.

      jack black T500 is just as good at what? Being a paper weight? The T500 is not even in the same league as the V2.

    My Thrustmaster TX broke down, and I'm searching for a replacement. It's not evident from the review what I gain, in terms of FFB quality, with the V2 base versus the TX. Comments/suggestions?

    • @geforce5591
      @geforce5591 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Arnav Agharwal V2 is much shaper than the TX in terms of FFB and more powerful, if you turn the forces all the way up. What you also get with the V2 is zero FFB fade which is common with the TX and T300RS.

    • @agharwal
      @agharwal 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Tobi Ogunsanwo Thanks for the response! I did end up purchasing the V2 base, and am quite happy with the results. Much lower resistance with no dead zone. I was definitely experiencing clipping with the TX due to wrong in-game FFB settings; these have been corrected for the V2. It is likely a combination of both that I've managed to improve my previous best lap timings using the same setups. I also ended up raising tire temperatures in iRacing by over 10 F, something that I had struggled with earlier.
