I bought this lock with the bridge to use it with wifi and the keypad. after a year of use the wifi connection kept dropping and the wifi connectivity and the pin code generation was completely useless. I contacted August many times and they kept blaming it on my wifi, even though my wifi had not had any changes. They refused to replace the product or resolve the issue since the lock is out of the 1 year warranty period. I read some reviews and realized many others were having the same issue.
If you're on the inside of the house, there's still a mechanical deadbolt knob you can use like you normally would. If you're outside of your home, the August Door Lock keeps the external key hole, so you can use your keys to get in if necessary.

Mechanical backup ? if the battery power drains how will you then unlock?

This would mount inside the home and the key unlocking slot would still sit on the outside.
