Gaza solidarity encampments, which started on U.S. college campuses, have now spread worldwide as students call on their educational institutions to divest from companies profiting from Israeli apartheid and occupation. The uprising echoes the anti-apartheid movement of the 1980s, when many in civil society called for divestment from companies that profited from South Africa's system of racial domination. Democracy Now! explored the parallels this week with South African-born novelist and playwright Gillian Slovo, whose parents were legendary anti-apartheid activists Joe Slovo and Ruth First. "I have been to the West Bank, and I had a childhood in South Africa. I knew what apartheid looked like," Slovo says. "When I went to the West Bank, what I saw was apartheid in action."

Young people in increasingly large numbers of all backgrounds are seeing what the global South had been saying for decade after decade after decade
Young people are impressionable and easily swayed by misinformation. Yet, a vast majority of us fought against Islamic extremism, youre not convincing us now that they are the good guys here.
The young generation are different than their parent they don’t watch TV or drink Alcohol
Their Parents were too busy fighting a war against Islamic extremism and now teachers are trying to convince the kids their parents are the bad guys. Not the Islamic extremists that straps bombs to kids to other kids for trying to learn how to read. Why do you promote Islamic Theocracy and ethnic cleansing?
I visited the West Bank too and I was appalled by what I saw there. The Arabs were segregated, but I thought it was for safety. It's like a self perpetuating prophecy

South Africa is an economic basket case with the most appalling crime rate. When I was there in 2016 at night we could not leave our hotel. Beautiful country that was destroyed by incompetence.
