We speak with Palestinian American University of Michigan student Salma Hamamy, who was pepper-sprayed and beaten at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor when the Gaza solidarity encampment there became the latest to be violently dismantled Tuesday morning in the nationwide crackdown on student-led protests in solidarity with Palestine. Student protesters set up the encampment about a month ago to demand the University of Michigan’s endowment divest from companies with ties to Israel, but school President Santa Ono claimed the peaceful action had become a threat to public safety. Dozens of officers raided the encampment before dawn, arresting and hospitalizing students after pepper-spraying and pushing them to the ground. “I repeatedly said that my family has been killed, and that is why I am here. And as I was saying that through the megaphone, police officers snatched the megaphone out from my hand,” says Hamamy. She explains the university has refused to discuss divestment with protesters. “Instead of meeting with us at the table and meeting with us at the encampment, they decided to meet us with violent force and chemical attacks.” University of Michigan President Santa Ono is slated to appear before Congress Thursday alongside the presidents of UCLA and Yale.

My mom and dad are police officers and I was raised to respect law enforcement but I am so tired and disgusted by the violence the police all over the US seem so eager to inflict. This was happening when I was protesting for a third party movement in college. The anti-democratic authoritarianism was commonly discussed. We were sickened and incensed at that time. A professor once said to my friend who ran the group, that he predicted by 2020 there was going to be a major crisis or crises. Those words stuck with me to today. Academicians and others in those circles have been aware of, and openly discussing, these disturbing, inflammatory fascist responses to free speech taking place, especially at G7 Summits around the one-world-order policy being implemented in illegally breaking up legal demonstrations. We need to bulwark against these threats right as they occur, and send the message that peaceful protests are strong and able to stop military police violations through solidarity and unrelenting, point-driven agenda without wavering.

The university, after asking these people to leave, designated and identified them to the police as trespassers.
Trespassing is against the law. When the police arrived and asked them to leave, some of them did not immediately follow police instructions. Subsequently, the police took them into custody.

I have watched, longform, some of these protests and some thing that stands out, is 1.) How lilttle many of the pro Palestinian protestors know about this situation 2.) How unwilling they are are to discuss the situation in order to find common ground. They are simply about dehumanizing 'the other'.
3.) All they re doing is calling for the elimination of Israel - to do so would be genocidal so they become exactly what they say they are fighting against....these movements on college campuses are not about peace...let's just be clear about that...
No sane person wants the suffering of innocents. I am not saying Israel is with out fault by any means...but we have to live in the present realize neither side is going away and find common ground and work toward peace. Anything else is perpetual suffering make no mistake about that.
There are good and bad on both sides but please don't think the narrative that these are all a bunch of peaceful protests are true...a lot of them are led by foreign agitators. Make no mistake about it...this phenomena is acting like a trojan horse for Muslim brotherhood to get a foothold in the west and destroy it from within.
There is a conflagration going on with Palestinian rights and this larger agenda for Islam to gain a majority...listen to someone like Elica Le Blon about this...THIS IS NOT A GAME! There is currently a dangerous comingly of wokeism and Islam...Islam is NOT about peace nor human rights. If you can't say fuck Hamas you should go live with them and see what that is like. That is different than wanting dignity, prosperity and safety for Palestinians.
