    my favorite part of this video is watching the clouds in the sky which look like a painting and seeing them evolve

    Wicked good piece of music you played at around the 8 minute 30 second mark. Thanks.

    I can't stand sand and I ride a bike that can deal with it. I am enjoying the series!

    You were killing it in the sand too right before you went down. One thing I can’t do is ride sand. My only drop was out in Utah on the Hole in the Rock road in the same kind of sand. Soft landing and got a little dusty. I know there’s a way. I just gotta confront it and do it.

      I'm not sure 12" Vespa wheels are the best idea for sand...

    We love sand! I used my Focal headphones for the audio this time - really enjoyed it!

      the very very end? that's the JPR theme song I created a decade ago on my old Korg Electribe. But I don't know if that is what you are referring to

    Great series. I watched you and Ang do the TAT and few of your WY vids. Could you share with me your camera and mic setup?
    Trying to choose one now for my MABDR trip.

    • @JohnnyPowRides
      @JohnnyPowRides  ปีที่แล้ว

      Wellll.... I'v had several setups and I'm still tweaking them. Setup 1 (which I might go back to) was a Django clip mount with a GoPro 8/9 with the media mod and a basic lav mic on the inside of the clip behind a foam mic windscreen. Setup 2 which I used on the SM500 solo on DR and on this trip, was a ChinMount on the helmet (I do not recommend) and the mod/hero. The last setup (3) I tried was a failure which was Ulanzi frame mount and the mic adapter into Hero 11 which I took on the WYBDR which none of those videos are edited yet and likely won't be until next year. The failure of the ChinMount kind of ruined the whole documentation aspect of that trip, so I can't comment un detail on it.
      In a nutshell - you need a mic in your helmet, with a windscreen, and a way to get that plugged into your action camera

    seeing you hit stop sign after stop sign i cant remember where i went but i hit a small town and it took me over 20 minutes to go 4 miles and it was because i swear it had a stop sign every 200 feet. and i think they put some up where there was no side streets just to mess with me. and that spot you laid it down must have been the spot everyone was bitching about. and i learned the hard way if you on sand never touch the front brake. but if you have integrated brakes its hard

    John, I'm going to guess that this was the most scenic day of the whole route.
    Sorry you went down and tarnished the scooter. But glad there was no injury. That sand trap was not fair for small tire scooters. It was a real safety hazard. Not wise on the part of the promoters who organized and sponsored this ride.
    But, other than that, it seems great. What a ride, aye?😊

      @@JohnnyPowRides John,
      That seems to be saying that no one rode this section before hand. Was that the situation?
      I had assumed that everything was ridden in advance in order to determine the checkpoints and bonus points. That was my impression.
      It's kind of like skiing the glacier on the Mont Blanc in France. The professional mountain guides slowly ski the glacier early in the morning in order to discover any new open cravases. And when they find them they post red flags to alert people to stay away from that area.
      When I was there they pulled someone out of a cravas that they saw go down. When they put their rescue line in to pull that person out, it was actually a different person they pulled. Then the mountain guides went down themselves and pulled the person that they saw fall into it.
      This apparently happens all the time and some people get left behind in the cravas and die of exposure. You have to follow the trail exactly for safety sake. Sending folks down dirt roads without knowing whether they are in a potentially hazardous condition, just doesn't seem right. I assumed they knew beforehand and it was allowed as part of the drama.

      @JohnnyPowRides  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@gorrdd To clarify - everyone knew where these dirt road sections were, it was clear in the rider packet and maps. What I meant is that little section of sand at the end of the road we didn't know it was going to be suddenly deep, until you rode right up on it.
      Thanks - J

    • @gorrdd
      @gorrdd 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@JohnnyPowRides Thanks John. Yeah, I understood that. Just seems that they should have put some kind of alert in the packet to caution riders to really slow down towards the end of it... like you tried to do, but not enough to avoid the limited crash.
      Granted, it was soft sand so not that big of a hazard... depending upon how fast you hit it.
      That's where I got the impression that no one had ridden it recently. They only knew the dirt/sand was there and nothing else.
      The only people that didn't seem to go down were those who saw the others going down and really slowed up.
      Anyway, those were my impressions and it just didn't make good sense to me.
