Yes, please do more! The OPX4 is the most impressive MPC plug-in so far. And it’s my first in-depth work with FM synthesis. By the way, with this patch I noticed that my scales were a bit out of tune, I wonder which macro would cause that to happen. Anyway, thanks again.
Hey there - thanks for watching! I could definitely see doing some more OPx-4 videos. It’s really deep and we’ve barely scratched the surface. Not sure what’s up with your intonation on this one. I’d check to make sure no extra mod matrix slots are turned on, and that the operator Offset parameters are all zeroed out.

excellent tutorial. unfortunately, on naming my macros, when i hold edit and knobs the screen you showed does pop up-- but with everything blank. any clue how to fix this? there doesnt seem to be a way to assign anything to anything on that screen ahh i came back to this and figured it oout. i missed putting knobs into track mode. excellent tutorial, thank you
Another great tutorial Joe thanks! I definitely needed that explanation on the unipolar and bipolar mod types, I'm already making some huge patches with these tips. One thing I can't seem to figure out is what the last slider on the bottom of each mod does, how different is it from the % knob at the top? Keep them coming, these are really great tutorials ✌🏽
Hey Edgar - thanks and that’s awesome to hear you’re getting good results! From my experimentation, I’m fairly certain that slider on the bottom attenuates the incoming control signal pre-shaper, while the amount knob on the top is post-shaper. So if you aren’t using a shaper, there shouldn’t be any difference between them. If you’re using a shaper though, it will limit the range of the input into the shaper transfer function which in some cases could pretty drastically alter the control signal vs. a non-attenuated input signal. I’ve been trying to think of a way to demonstrate this visually since it can be kind of hard to get your head around it just from the bar graph representation of the Target signal in OPx-4. I wish I could stick an oscilloscope right on that point. :)

After setting 5 modulations on a single operator and hearing it go WOWOWOP moving the slider on one of them would probably be unnoticeable jajajaja.. For now I mixed several patches using your generative patch video as a base and the one level of control and mod from this one and getting great results. Not even AKAI went through the trouble of explaining the darn thing in any capacity, and much less to the level of detail your doing it, so thanks for your time! I don't know what it is about this goofy synth that just clicks, because like anyone in this space, I'm full of virtual synths like Pigments and Serum etc.. that are objectively more powerful but this one with the level of on hand control and immediacy is just what I gravitate to. Haha, yep you can definitely pile the modulations up to the brink of insanity with this synth. I agree, what really makes this synth special for me is being able to run it on my Force, and have it feel very much like a knobby hardware synth - while still getting all the benefits of a software synth like being able to run multiple copies, save presets, etc.
