my favorite thing about Tube Digga's Channel, is that he gives a hidden lesson in Breaks. Source material for many of D&B, and Hip Hop's greatest beats.
I just found you and man you the real deal I haven't even got to touch the surface of your videos but soon as I set shop back up with my mpc live you will be the one I watch and the way you explain stuff is straight to the point and easy to understand I'm going to turn all my homies on to your channel I did see one that had me like its got to be a better way and thats the automated note repeat with the south killing it with drum rolls snare rolls and high hats its got to be a better way but just the fact that you touched on it opened my mind I can't wait to set shop back up me and my squad are ready
Your videos truly are fantastically presented. My only gripe is the low resolution of 720p. If you're wondering what kind of new content to make (as a TH-camr myself, I'm often overwhelmed at the prospect of coming up with new content), redoing all of your tutorials with a higher resolution camera would definitely still be relevant and watch-worthy. I'd love to see 1080p or even 2k to 4k remakes of these videos so everything isn't so blurry. That said, even without higher resolution, these videos are still the most helpful resource on the MPC workflow that exist on TH-cam. In other words, thank you VERY much for all you've done for the MPC community.
Hi, thanks for your input, I appreciate it. As you can imagine, doing this full time takes a lot, particularly when the advertising revenue doesn't bring in much to live on, so that's why I produced my Masterclass course which is all in 1080p and captures the MPC TUI like much of my latest videos do. I may redo some of the older content but the Masterclass course is full of the most useful stuff. I also update it from time to time so what you get now will only increase over time. All the links for it are in the description of all my videos, including a 20% off discount code if you're interested.
I was just thinking about trading my MPC live in and sticking to Ableton Live & Push 2 but you literally just answered everything I needed to know in this video lol. Thank you!
Excellent guide! You probably know this - but i dont think I've seen you use it - but when you have a "list box" (with the downward triangle) you can double tap the box and you will get a pop up box with direct selection. I.e. you do not have to scroll through all the effects or samples - but select them directly. Same with the "Virtual encoders" on screen - double tap it and it will expand to fill the entire screen for more precise control.
Let me clarify - the "listbox with triangle" I am referring to - is all over the interface. For example at 2:14 in this vid you see a grey box with "Discard" in it - and next to it a white triangle. If you double-tap this box - a list pops up and that lets you select from the list directly. Instead of scrolling through it. Same with the "sample select listbox" in the upper left corner on the red bar - as you mention. At 11:51 you see what I refer to as "virtual encoder" - the round wheel with a red arc. Double tap that and it goes "full screen". Hope that helps!
I don't know where you are at in life right now, but I really appreciate your videos.. Never looked at tutorials from day 1 when I got my first s900 back when, Please keep it up and keep these videos here.
I'm assuming it's because I have the 2.3 update and just got my MPC X only a few days ago, but I DO NOT see a "Process" button when in Sample Edit mode in order to follow along. I have no idea where that button is or how to get into the "function" another way. Any ideas?

I have perfect loop that I'm importing, how do I get this loop into a song , Do I use the Sample Editor . The Sample Editor seems to leave it as a perfect loop , but then how do I get this recorded into a Track ?
You have to assign the sample to a pad within a drum program. Then set the sequence tempo to match the tempo of the sample. You then record the sample in to a set amount of bars by triggering the pad it is assigned to or imputing it as a note either from the step sequence or grid editor. No disrespect intended, so please know I ain’t trying to troll! I’ve been doing a new project and have looked into several options for live and studio use. Digitakt, Octatrack and even upgrading to an iPad Pro using BeatMaker3. After borrowing a friends Digitakt I’m thinking that ain’t for me, but still debating between IPad Pro/BM3 or MPCX/Live Any advice?
No problem. It’s a completely normal question to ask. For me, I’d say either the OT or Live/X. I had an OT MK1 for 8 years and it was very good for live performance, but for studio use it cannot compete with the Live or X in terms of sound quality. So you may want to consider that. Conversely whilst the Live and X excel in the studio, there are certain restrictions when using them live. For example, they currently cannot stream audio from disk like the OT can, which really helps to free up memory - but this is more than likely to be possible and potentially will be added in a future OS update. It really depends on how you construct your sequences, the MPC format is so flexible it allows you to find many workflows to suit the particular use you require of it. The OT may be better for you if you specifically want a dedicated live machine.
This is brilliant! Just wondering, if I want to use some of drums from the clips loops, do I have to edit them in sample editor in order to use them in the drums pads? Thanks so much!
No, you can use them as they are, they are just audio files like any other sample. Clip programs and drum programs just handle samples differently but the samples themselves are the same in essence.
Cool video's! Was just wondering if its possible to remove the pitch shift or bitcrush effect from a piece of the sample after its already been shifted or bitcrushed? Ive noticed that if you try to for pitch shift it back, you get some nasty artifacts.
is there any way to sample from youtube into the mpc 2.2 software using the sampler. I would like to do this in controller mode. I know how to sample from youtube into the mpcx in standalone mode the same way you would sample from a record player but i would also like to know how in controller mode via the software.
KROSER I’m not sure - because the X and Live both have built in audio interfaces, the idea is you use them to sample anyway, and in turn this is the same thing if you’re in controller mode.
Do you have a video on importing wav file instrumentals into the MPC , so for instance if I already have a beat that I want to lay vocals on, what would be the best way about importing in a wav file and then laying my vocals on it, mixing it down adding effects all in standalone ? Is that possible ?
If you for instance edit a sample by deleting everything either side of the markers does it destroy the sample on your storage device or just the copy in memory?
Just the copy loaded into memory, not the source file - I refer to destructive editing in this video and should have clarified this as being destructive as opposed to adjusting program/ pad parameters, not totally deleting the samples :)

The sound on this video is fantastic what mic do you use? If there’s one thing I cannot stand it’s mouth noises and these tend to be on 70% of videos I watch, but not on this one 😍
It’s a Rode NT1. I also have an effects chain in Ableton live which slightly compresses the audio and also a noise gate which eliminates any mouth noises. I also go through the entire audio and manually remove anything that sounds gross :)
It depends on what you want to achieve per sample. I personally only use either of these facilities for sound design experimental purposes instead of a utility. I may use them on an extremely rare occasion and even then it would be very subtly as they both can introduce artefacts. But essentially it doesn’t matter what order you use them.
Hey thank you for these dope MPc tutorials. They are the best on youtube ! Question : on edit sample mode, when i press Process , I have no option for "Discard". I don' understand why. What do I missed ? Thank You all the best to all
It’s really, really annoying that there’s no search bar tool on the sample select drop down menu in the sample editor! (If you accidentally click away from the sample edit screen while your trying to edit a bounced or recorded sample, it’s a pain to try to find it again if you have keygroup sample instruments loaded)
No unfortunately - my old MPC5000 had this feature from what I remember and it’s handy. You either have to judge it by ear or simply undo and try again if it’s the incorrect pitch.
@@TUBEDIGGA Ok, that makes the MPC X completely unusable for playing around. I just ordered one earlier. What parameters of a sample can you change in real time, without processing? Any video I should watch perhaps?
Then simply add the original sample to a pad in a drum program, find the pitch by adjusting the semi tuning (a non destructive process for the sake of previewing) then go to the sample editor and apply the same amount to the pitch shift function. Otherwise you can WARP a pad in real time but the quality is not as good.
@@TUBEDIGGA Thanks man. How is it in comparison to the octatrack (the warp option & real time processing)? I just ordered one today so I was worried after seeing this :p
Alexander Sillekens The MPCX/Live are not as good or at least as smooth as the OT for real time time- stretching etc. However, the MPCX’s overall sound quality is far superior in my opinion and the OT cannot compete with the amount of mixing options - both the virtual and physical routing. Simply put, the OT is much better for live performance in many regards whereas the X is a powerhouse in the studio. The OT sequencer is very good and lots of fun but the MPC is much more flexible overall - more tracks, more outputs, more connections. Plus the pads make a big difference, I don’t like the tappy buttons on the OT.
Thank you soo much for this video! Just got my live yesterday and started using the sampling functions. My time stretch doesn’t show up at all and when I went to the options it is grayed out. Is there a reason for this? Thanks!
It may be because you've made some slices in CHOP mode. If so, from the area that shows the SLICE NUMBER, choose ALL instead of a slice number (such as 1, 2 etc) and then all the process functions will become available. ALL means the original sample basically, and not a section (slice) of it, in which case some of the functions are greyed out (timestretch being one of them).
Sometimes when I sample bands the tempo is a little inconsistent so lining it up with a drum machine causes some issues like snares being slightly off. Should I just break the sample down into such small bits that I can time them more precisely? Years ago I used Ableton and it had a great time stretch feature where you could warp one grid to match the beat underneath. It seems the Akai does not work this way.
Mr. Mizu Yes, breaking it down is the key so you can correct or improve any timing issues. It follows the classic mpc chopping methods which provide a more organic experience rather than clinically correct stretching facilities. Or you could do that in Ableton first then import the edited sample into the mpc.
DOes ANy one know The answer to my problem? When I chop my samples and assign them to New Programs & samples . They stop Making SOUND!!!! BUT THEY ARE ON THE PADS. just no sound. Its not speakers. I can hear when i'm chopping
Thanks for responding .. Yes I hit the main button . outta sample edit. and make sure my track is set to the new program of samples.. no sound.. I;ve been using the mpc studio . so I know how to chop and put em on pads... Just got the X... making the transition ...
Thank you for an excellent video. Is there any way in the MPC or Force (same firmware) to scroll the loop and not move the begin and end markers? In other words, I have some loops that are "off" and I want to move them to be more "on" without reducing the size of the sample. Namely, every loop is two bars and I want to keep them at 2 bars, but I want them to match my other loops. I hope I am being clear.
@@jammystraub488 I'm a newb on MPC, so i dont know if its possible on here. (The audio edit options seem quite limited compared to a DAW)But on Studio One there is a great edit mode called 'slip edit' that makes doing that really easy and simple th-cam.com/video/biAm2Z1IOik/w-d-xo.html
if i want to play a sample in my HD, in pad perform, what are the right steps to do it? Tried in drum program, keygroups, missing something i can't use the notes and chords..........
Please explain the “slice” option, where it says “all”. It is not obvious to me. When not set to “all” features are not available. Like create a new sample for instance. BR: Robert
All is basically the original sample, so when set to this you can perform all the processing tasks available. When set to a slice number you are limited to certain processes. So if you’ve sliced the sample in chop mode, you must set the sample to All in trim mode to be able to use the full suite of process options.
Yes I hear you at some point time I’ll invest in the x in the meantime I’ll wait a little bit more and get more familiar rise with the live i’ve pretty much had it for year tube dig keeps my relaxing passion going👍🏾 lots of fun stuff...
Not too sure what you mean - one shots and mute groups are completely different things. Any pad can be set to either NOTE ON or ONE SHOT whether they are in the same mute group or not.
how do you turn off the autoplay when moving your start and end points? anytime i move one of the points even a small degree it triggers the sample to play causing my speakers to pop & click . cant figure it out
But how do I take a turn table/record sample and keep the bpm and change the tune (key) or keep the tune (key) and change the bpm Been working with it and can’t seem to get it right
Christopher Noble The quickest but dirtiest (less quality) way is to use WARP on a pad. The second way is to pitch shift or time stretch from the process functions in the sample editor. This is much better quality than warping as warping is a real-time effect. The best way in my opinion is to chop the sample up into small sections and do it manually. Pm me at tubedigga@gmail.com if you need further in depth tuition.
sometimes the discard function is not available, and only silence is available.. why is this? I move the start point and more often the end point and want to trim off the extra bits to get a perfect loop..
It’s because you’ve added slices. In trim mode towards the right you’ll see a box where you can select a particular slice to process. Choose ALL which is the source sample. Then you can access all the process functions.
@@TUBEDIGGA why is it 10x louder then when I go back to the main window and work on my song. It’s almost unusable. I mean I can even turn it down in the windows volume control. I even disabled all the sound drives in the sounds control panel. I can’t figure out where the sound even comes from when in that mode.
You’ll have to provide more context and a time stamp or something, I made this video ages ago so I don’t know exactly what you’re specifically referring to.
After making a donation the other day I was just thinking about asking you to make a quick video on the sample editor. ...and then this popped up. Mental. How you have the time to make all these, I do not know.
In sample edit you only edit one sample at a time, in program edit you can layer 4 samples per pad. If that's what you mean, just press the layer for the sample you wish to edit on the samples page. Although in sample edit, you may be referring to a stereo sample, in which case the top waveform is the left channel and the bottom is the right.
It's shows the sample... and there's two. One of top of each other. The same sample. How do you edit them separately. Malo did it in one of his videos and I find it anymore
Can someone help me. I just bought a mpc live 2. Some of The process functions won't populate. Specifically discard, delete, timestretch, and copy. Can anyone tell me why that is. Its driving me crazy I can't find anything online about this issue Specifically
It’s because you’ve chopped the sample. Clear the chops or make sure you’re in TRIM mode and have ALL selected in the slice selection area. The functions that are missing can only be applied to the entire sample, not a single chop/slice.
After one and a half year i still can not get why can we edit samples in 2 ways: the sample editor and the program editor. When to use which? How could you explain this simple? 🎉
In SAMPLE EDIT the editing or processing is destructive, meaning if you trim a sample or normalise it or add gain etc, those changes are permanent (unless you 'undo' the processing you've applied). Editing in PROGRAM EDIT applies changes to the pads that samples are assigned to and not the actual sample - for example, setting the start point of a sample is non-destructive and merely plays the sample from a different position than the actual start of the sample without trimming it. The only destructive editing you can do in PROGRAM EDIT is FLATTEN PAD which isn't really destructive to the original sample, it just creates a new sample but applies the pad settings (filter, effects, start point, pitch etc) and resets all the parameters so you can apply more on top of the newly created sample.

Thank you!
@@TUBEDIGGA ok I will give it a try! Thank you so much!!
Great vid
Are you exiting the sample editor and on the main page or in program edit when this happens? And what pad bank are you in? Any more info?
Hi! Did you ever find a way to do this?
@@jammystraub488 I'm a newb on MPC, so i dont know if its possible on here. (The audio edit options seem quite limited compared to a DAW)But on Studio One there is a great edit mode called 'slip edit' that makes doing that really easy and simple

How can play the slices in pad perform?
Pad performance mode is for keygroups or midi tracks, it’s for chords and scales
if i want to play a sample in my HD, in pad perform, what are the right steps to do it? Tried in drum program, keygroups, missing something i can't use the notes and chords..........
Christian G. What have you done so far/where are you up to?
What? :|
Explain where you're up to so I know what to advise you
Hi tube is there any way to move start and end point within a selectrion in a clip at the same time? im trying to use wavetables
No, but this might be of interest: th-cam.com/video/IaSarI9IhVM/w-d-xo.html
Please explain the “slice” option, where it says “all”. It is not obvious to me. When not set to “all” features are not available. Like create a new sample for instance. BR: Robert
All is basically the original sample, so when set to this you can perform all the processing tasks available. When set to a slice number you are limited to certain processes. So if you’ve sliced the sample in chop mode, you must set the sample to All in trim mode to be able to use the full suite of process options.

Do you still have your mpc live?
no, he sold it and the proceeds from that went to the X.
Yes I hear you at some point time I’ll invest in the x in the meantime I’ll wait a little bit more and get more familiar rise with the live i’ve pretty much had it for year tube dig keeps my relaxing passion going👍🏾 lots of fun stuff...
I wish you could set a start and end point then just scrub and extract samples from source sample
You can, unless I'm misunderstanding your comment: select the region you want to extract, press PROCESS then choose the EXTRACT function.

proceeds to show us fade-out
How do you make a program with four of the samples are in a shared mute group and the rest play through as on shots
Not too sure what you mean - one shots and mute groups are completely different things. Any pad can be set to either NOTE ON or ONE SHOT whether they are in the same mute group or not.
Question, do you know if the MPC Touch works with 2.10? Is anybody you know rocking MPC-Beat and a Touch?
Yes it does, I have one and it works fine
how do you turn off the autoplay when moving your start and end points? anytime i move one of the points even a small degree it triggers the sample to play causing my speakers to pop & click . cant figure it out
nvm, literally just found it- click the gear icon in the sample editor and turn ‘slice preview’ to off. Your videos are great, just subscribed 🤙🏼
Is there any way of fading in all chops in the program editor? I use to do it all the time in the mpc 1k and I can’t figure out how to do it now
Yes, select all pads via the EDIT ZONES function (top middle of screen) then adjust the attack time of the amplitude envelope to make it slower
@@TUBEDIGGA thanks a lot 🙏🏾
But how do I take a turn table/record sample and keep the bpm and change the tune (key) or keep the tune (key) and change the bpm
Been working with it and can’t seem to get it right
Christopher Noble The quickest but dirtiest (less quality) way is to use WARP on a pad.
@@TUBEDIGGA thanks for your help!
@@TUBEDIGGA Dj saved my life... this issue drove me near crazy, Thanks a lot!
Good video
👍👍
How do you turn down the sample playback volume in the sample edit mode. It’s full blast I can’t even use this lol
In sample edit mode you cant turn the volume down as such, but you can apply a GAIN process function and reduce by an amount of dB (decibles)
Time stretching…..why choose a section of it and not the whole thing? Are you speeding it up so it matches the track tempo?
You’ll have to provide more context and a time stamp or something, I made this video ages ago so I don’t know exactly what you’re specifically referring to.
After making a donation the other day I was just thinking about asking you to make a quick video on the sample editor. ...and then this popped up. Mental. How you have the time to make all these, I do not know.
Thanks for donating! What name?
Initials PL. Think it was two days ago.
Thanks again Mr Crumb :)
Theres two samples. One on top and one on bottom... why ? How do we edit each one individually??
In sample edit you only edit one sample at a time, in program edit you can layer 4 samples per pad. If that's what you mean, just press the layer for the sample you wish to edit on the samples page. Although in sample edit, you may be referring to a stereo sample, in which case the top waveform is the left channel and the bottom is the right.
It's shows the sample... and there's two. One of top of each other. The same sample. How do you edit them separately. Malo did it in one of his videos and I find it anymore
Yes how do you edit the left and right wave individually
@@ADangerousPlace You have to separate them by using the STEREO TO MONO process function.
Maybe you could do a quick 2 minutes vid if you get a chance on that one lol ?
Can someone help me. I just bought a mpc live 2. Some of The process functions won't populate. Specifically discard, delete, timestretch, and copy. Can anyone tell me why that is. Its driving me crazy I can't find anything online about this issue Specifically
It’s because you’ve chopped the sample. Clear the chops or make sure you’re in TRIM mode and have ALL selected in the slice selection area. The functions that are missing can only be applied to the entire sample, not a single chop/slice.
@@TUBEDIGGA I did chop it before i tried to timestretch im going to do what you suggested I appreciate the answer 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Oh my days!! A 12 db increase on a normalised sample is anathema to a sound engineer lol 😱
