Controversial Thoughts: Why I live in Costa Rica

  • Am I running from the law, or just exploring a slightly different way of life?
Find out in this week's episode of Controversial Thoughts!
You'll hear about how I discovered Santa Teresa, and why this place has allowed me to live out my own version of #theremembering in a unique way...
Want to hang out with me and a bunch of other #animalbased folks here? I'm organizing an #animalbased gathering down here July 23rd-26th. There will definitely be lots of organs, meat, beach volleyball, surfing, swimming, frisbee, sun, and community- all of the things that help us remember who we are as humans and where we've come from!
Stay tuned for more details about how to sign up (it will be free)!

I'm happy for you Dr Saladino. I spent many of my early years fishing scuba diving skin diving. This year will be my first fall being retired at 64. I'll be spending much of my time in the woods community with nature, hunting whitetail deer with my longbow.

I got refractive surgery in 1995. Worst thing I have ever done. If it works for, that is great; but if it doesn’t...you are screwed for the rest of your life. Think REAL hard before you let someone mess with your eyes. You realize really fast that contacts are not a big deal compared to not being able to see correctly ever again.

Make sure you get a few consultations from different places. I had mixed results. There are complications that could happen for 1 out of 100 people for some side effects, but I have a lot of those rare things happening to me in life medically and not medically so I'm undecided and will reevaluate in a year. I didn't qualify for LASIK, but trans PRK.

Perhaps someone can repair it (understood if you're hesitant for a round two). Anyhow, I wish you all improved eye health whatever way that comes.

I appreciate your enthusiasm for the meat only diet. You exemplify what you have been talking about for quite some time. I hope your July 'tribal gathering' in Costa Rica goes as well as you expect and that your health remains as glowingly obvious at it now seems. Before the pestilence came to so dominate our lives, I was happy living a slightly more sedentary life under a Philippines' sun. I agree that measured exposure should not imply layers of clothing and bathing in sunscreen oils. My daughter and I regularly walked our dog from about 5.00am, so that by 7.00am we could gain the full benefit of the sun rising from behind Mount Arayat, in Angeles City. I would love to join you in July, and were it not for the persistence of this apocalyptic horseman, would be searching the internet for a ticket. Unfortunately I cannot consider international travel at the moment because of the restrictions. My wife, daughter and I are trapped in Australia where our 'nanny-state' authorities insist we must remain. Australia is not such a bad place to be but I resent having my freedoms so prescribed. My daughter and I are in constant ketosis and stay fairly well on a meat only diet. My wife manages her Hashimotos immune system issues by following a similar diet, only she insists on 3 meals a day. She is also very fond of avocados and blueberries which she eats mixed in Greek yoghurt each morning along with bacon. Funnily enough, my wife remains a constant 42 kilograms despite eating more than my daughter and I, who restrict ourselves to a 20:4 routine. Maybe it's the dairy?

At this time I live in Mexico and LOVE panama, costa rica, nicaragua, honduras, el salvador guatemala, Peru, Columbia (lived there for a few years),............ the sad part about ALL of these countries is how much Coke Cola they consume and the abuse of big companies / rich over the poor people. Good and bad everywhere of course. The sea and jungles are awesome ! So easy to find fresh fruits and veggies and a lot of tiny farms that sell Fresh meat still on the hoof : ) During my time in Columbia and Peru the fresh fish and eating the whole fish is awesome. Here in Mexico it is super easy to get liver, heart, stomach and intestine (Tripas). There is a city here in Mexico call Guaymas, tons of sardines and crabs fresh from the sea daily. Saladino isn't a carnivore, he eats lots of plants, he's 'animal based'. You could argue that labels don't matter, but maybe they do, when someone claims to be the "Carnivore MD", writes a book called the "Carnivore Code", and yet .. eats plants. If "Carnivore" doesn't mean animal-products only, then it loses all meaning and anyone can hijack it for their own individual uses, and then where does that leave us trying to share a universal language.

Hey doc: as far as sun exposure .. . I've been a surfer girl for 40+ years and I have noticed I can stay out in the sun more with less effect on my skin since I've gone carnivore (1.5 years now) I don't get burnt as much and my lips that usually get fried don't anymore. Crazy! I use to get sun blisters on my lips when out in the ocean and I had one bump that was there all the time, for many years (that disappeared in a few weeks after going carnivore) Craaaa-Zee!! Costa Rica is def on my bucket list . . . . sounds like it's finally time to get there . . . how did you pick Santa Teresa?? I know the waves are good there!! lol

I visited Costa Rica. The best coffee. The whole food was good. The US enclaves were not much cheaper than the US. The big cities were dangerous. Not great seeing the guard standing there with a pistol. Once you leave the cities, it really was lovely. People seemed friendly. I assume that theft is a big deal. Every building that I saw had bars on the window, even the ones on coffee plantations.

I like the concept of remembering. This is how God intended us to live. The Garden of Eden 😊. I think this is what God will bring us back to. “But as it is written: “Eye has not seen, nor ear heard, Nor have entered into the heart of man The things which God has prepared for those who love Him.””

I feel this: the idea that I don’t want to consume animals because it saddens me that animals have to die in order to sustain us. I’ve been vegetarian, vegan and most recently I eat poultry and fish, but I have had GI issues for years (been gluten free for over a decade) and most issues subsided until recently when I’ve noticed digestive issues (bloating, irregular BM, etc) and some minor skin concerns.
I really want to jump on the diet Dr. Paul is recommending but I do struggle with that compassion factor, however misplaced or juvenile it may be, and would love to hear if any other ex-vegans or ex-vegetarians could provide guidance on how to get past that mental block.
    Many thanks!!
