    Thanks for clarifying the need: (1) to balance the branch chain amino acids in meat (leucine, isoleucine, and valine) with the amino acids in collagen (glycine, proline, and hydroxyproline); (2) to get enough carbohydrates (150 grams per day) from raw milk , fruit juice, and fruit; and (3) to eat organs to balance out the micronutrients in meat. Great advice!!

    Background: I’ve been in above average physical condition for most of my life. Starting with amateur boxing from ages 9 through 17, a lifestyle of consistent exercise has remained a constant. At age 57 1/2 I started a strict carnivore diet. The initial adjustment was felt. I was running/rucking 20-30 miles weekly, as well as doing very high rep body weight and kettlebell workouts. A little over a year into the diet and my body composition has improved significantly. At 5’11” and 200 lbs, I have noticeable abs when relaxed and my endurance is good. However, I started having issues with my heart going into tachycardia and had to take medication to prevent that from happening. I have never been on prescription medication, except for antibiotics a few times in my life, therefore I wondered if there was a correlation between my heart issue and my diet. After 6 weeks of adding carbs back into my diet, mostly in the form of local honey, berries, dairy, and an occasional slice of sourdough bread, my heart issue disappeared. Perhaps this is merely coincidental, time will tell. In the meantime I’ll continue eating a primarily animal based diet.

    Hi paul, valuable info as always! How do you think people living in the northern latitudes should eat especially in the winter months when fruits really don’t grow and perhaps only some root vegetables would be available locally? Would you still recommend eating fruits despite being imported, not matching your light environment, and despite not having enough sunlight (like you in CR) to deplete DEUTERIUM from the fruits consumed? Eating fruits as the less toxic carbs makes a lot of sense but how about seasonal local eating? Wouldn’t it be more ancestrally appropriate to eat what grows in your area and matches your circadian rhythms/light even though what grows is not fruit but other plants? So curious to hear your opinion!

I ate beef liver a few days ago (cooked ! ) and today I had chicken broth to start the day and am eating 1/2 pound of chicken liver this aft. I might just try a bite raw. I am so happy to hear about honey, I know lots about it's history of use by Egyptians as an antiseptic and health food and I didn't belive the people who said it was not safe to eat. fermented food activates dehydrogenase enzymes in exactly the same way as alcohol consumption. Creating the very toxic substances that dehydrogenase activation results in, which happen to be more potent and toxic than what was consumed. Its the only mechanism the body has to remove these consumed toxins,

    Basic question to Paul: should some people prefer to be in ketosis? Obviously not getting there if eating 150g of carbs per day.

    • @hyperTorless
      @hyperTorless 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      Short answer is: no. Ketosis relies on the same stress pathways as starvation: when the body is deprived of his preferred fuel (carbs), it has to rely on the less optimal fatty acid oxydation (Randle cycle) and gluconeogenesis, both implying chronically elevated state of stress hormones. Actually it makes a lot of sense. That's why keto people do not really have resting sleep, and that's why Inuits/eskimos have a special genetic mutation so they can avoid being in ketosis (if ketosis was physiologically preferable we wouldn't see this mutation).

    • @Boselaphus
      @Boselaphus 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@hyperTorlessSo you are telling me that ketosis is bad? I have heard carnivore people's stress go to zero and be in good shape. And the keto dit people who also consume veggies have lost a lot of weight. Please educate me

      @@Boselaphus That is a hotly debated question right now.

    • @hyperTorless
      @hyperTorless 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Boselaphus Yes it's a stressing state for the organism, because its favorite fuel is glucose. I say "favorite" because it's more optimized physiologically: it needs less "energy" to make ATP from glucose, and it brings about less desirable byproduct like CO2 (basically).
      If you want to lose weight, that's a separate topic. But I'd be look towards a low-BCAA, no vegetable oil/linoleic acid of any kind, and not more than 15% fat (mostly SFA or MUFA).

    Maybe vegetables are bad if you cook them properly. Just take a look at traditional preparations of collard greens in the USA South, where it's cooks for hours to get it extremely tender. What's "bad" is if you eat a lot of **raw** green salads of kale/spinach, where oxalates and anti-nutrients remain present. Tried Paul's meat and fruit diet for the last year and it got me very lean, but also gave me bad skin (face breakouts) and poor bowel movements. Started to add back cruciferous vegetables (steamed until tender, tend sautéed in non seed oils) and already starting to make improvements.

      @hyperTorless 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      A small exercise routine can probably be helpful, but be careful. If you ditch seed oils, and don't consume like 40% of fat, getting your calories right can be tricky. The priority should be getting enough calories to dial up your thyroid. That's 3000kcal for the average man, 2500kcal for a woman with no physical activity. The total number of calories is abysmally low in the official recommendation literature. If you look at the litterature on caloric consumption, you stumble upon studies where they measured the caloric consumption of 10-year old kids in 1960. These kids ate 2500kcal. Most women today consume less than that.
      Most "fit" nutrition youtubers get it wrong, like Thomas DeLauer whose testosterone levels are a quarter of those of Paul (200 vs 900, lol...) because the guy over-exercises, and don't eat enough carbs.

      Honestly, if you eat Organic everything, Grass Fed, no seed oils, no sugar, and fast regularly, you should be way healthier than 95% of the people out there. The key to things like adding some honey will be moderation. Do it once in a while, and have self-discipline to not overdo that. Pay attention to your body. Keep a logbook. It literally helps you know what's going on. Weigh yourself in the morning, after using the bathroom, and before drinking or eating anything. Write that down. Write down what you eat. Give a rating 1 to 10 for how you feel in the morning, mid-day, and at night before you go to bed. Note things like headaches, cramps, nausea, diarrhea, dizziness, gas, etc.
      It takes just a few minutes out of each day to do this, but provides amazingly valuable information. Especially if you ever end up in the hospital, really sick. A doctor can look at that and maybe see something that's causing your problem, or creating a fertile environment for it to happen. But it provides you even more valuable info. You may see a pattern. You eat something and a day or three later, you have a headache, diarrhea, etc...

      @@shnibby12 then you're most likely not lactose intolerant. Lactase is a protein and any protease enzymes present in fruits will denature the lactase enzyme your body releases. If you're lactose intolerant, that enzyme is already small enough as it is, and the protease will destroy that small quantity too.
      Every single time I've consumed milk or yogurt in quantities that I can otherwise safely consume, whenever combined with papaya or pineapple, it gave me bad, really bad diarrhea.

      Yes it really depends on what works for you. Carbs straight up make some people worse. Usually if your carnivore and struggling for energy up your fat. 150 grams of carbs is a huge amount and many would say that ain't the meat based way. I definitely include some more carbs than I used to but not 150 a day. Forget about ketosis if you do that. Still some good stuff here bit there's alot of stuff out there on sugar and fructose to consider. Everyone is different

      @cassieoz1702, You have an incorrect understanding of what the diet of our prehistoric humans ancestors was like. For most of history our ancestors lived in the tropics with year your fruit access. We only moved into temperate and cold climates very recently. Also, our ancestors were getting a lot of glucose from the glycogen in the muscle meat of fresh kills.

    I find that when I eat bone broth, I get the same reaction (restless legs, sleep disturbance) as I get from msg. Research tells me that it's free glutamic acid that is the culprit. Also, glycine can turn to glutamate in some people. Very bad excitotoxic for some people.

    Love that you eat raw organs instead of cooked!
    This is because organs can become tougher, have more of a mineral-y taste, and just become less delicious and rich. Additionally, when you don’t cook meat, you preserve a lot of the nutrients present like vitamin C and the b vitamin complex. Some of my favorite dishes for raw organ and muscle meat are foie gras (from healthy, not sick, animals, of course), steak tartare, carpaccio, sashimi, kibbeh (not the fried version), and tataki.

    I have cut out all processed junk food and sugar. However I live very rural, it’s over 200 miles round trip to the next biggest city. It is very difficult to get organs & raw milk and cheese. I looked into the supplements that Paul sells but they are expensive. We do buy our beef from farms so we have 3 freezers full of meat and I make my own bone broth, I buy whatever organic fruits I can get my hands on, I definitely feel better eating this way, I just don’t feel like I’m getting enough nutrients.

    I’ve noticed for myself and from the comments of others in the CIRS community that most of us seem to need a little carbohydrates.
    Apparently with CIRS bio toxin illness our body’s struggle to convert fat to energy.
    I was straight carnivore for almost three months, I felt awful, never became fat adapted, and gained 25 Lbs
    Adding a little bit of carb helped me feel less awful.
    I’m finally out of the toxic environment that I was living in and able to take the binders to get the bio toxins out of my system.
    Felt normal for four days in
    A row
    and that hasn’t happened in over twenty years!
    There is hope after all
