I got off work after working all night and slept for a while. In my dream, my mom who died six years ago appeared. She said she couldn't see anything, and I cried bitterly, saying I loved her while holding her in my arms. Then I woke up from the dream, and there was water under my eyes. Later, now that I'm listening to Jonathan Scott's organ, my heart is at peace and I'm happy. Thank you… Thank you…Jonathan!^^ from the South Korea
We see Jonathan just as a church congregation would view its' organist from their pew as they sing to his accompaniment . What a delight to see that Tom has made this amazing hymn and its' depth of meaning , to be as important as Jonathan's truly heart-touching, soul-healing, triumphant praise and worshipful accompaniment. Not as a 'performance' but as ministry from the heart to our God!
When life is more difficult than death.... From time to time I like to sing this hymn. Sending greetings to all of you . Have a lovely evening and good start in new week.
Thank God for His blessed hope He gives to us.....Let the words fill you and keep you at peace in and out of trials... Truly and sincerely I ask God to bless you my friend. Bless you
Thank you. It’s the one year anniversary of my dad’s death…. This hymn will always be associated with the loss of those most loved and closest to me. This gave me the permission to have the good cry I needed today.
It's so hard when we lose loved ones, we will never forget them, hope you find solace in knowing others share your grief along with their own. God bless.
My condolences to anyone who has lost a loved one in the past year. May these words and Jonathan's beautiful playing give you peace where it is often sorely missed. My own life has been a complete reversal from the new year; when I thought these words were where I was headed, to now having some hope that I might last through the turn of another year.
A Stunningly beautiful rendition of this wonderful hymn accompanied by Tom’s filming of the tranquil and beautiful countryside. So many memories for me when I used to sing it in my church choir very many years ago. Thank you both.
These bleak yet ultimately consoling words are manifested by Jonathan's transcendent arrangement & Tom's beautiful pastoral & reverent views. Thank you for sharing this inspirational music & beautiful church. 💐💐🎹🎶
Another magnificent “Battleship Binns” played by a master of the organ! Great job! This is absolutely one of my favorite hymns and I love the organs built by Binns because they always seem to have a bold and majestic power and lush, soothing soft tones. Any other Binns fans out there?
I’m definitely a fan of JJ Binns both for his own organs such as this and his careful restoration of earlier masterpieces such as the Armley Schultze just outside Leeds
@@epincion Yes, Binns’ respect for other masters of the craft, especially Shultze, while restoring an instrument is something to be admired. My favorite instrument of his is Albert Hall of Nottingham for its wide range of sound, beautiful casework, and fully mechanical combination action. Hopefully I can visit that instrument someday!
@@michaelm6370 How lucky you are to hear that instrument regularly! From the recordings I have heard of Binns’ organs, I find that the open diapasons are very warm and round in tone and make it pleasing for any occasion.
Beautiful moving hymn to sing along with this wet Sunday evening. I was meditating on the faithfulness and grace of God earlier today and then this arrives in my feed. Thanks so much guys.
There is no way to just sit and listen. You have to join in and sing along with Jonathan. I love "Thy cross before my closing eyes". The visual of the cross with the majestic melody leads you to the skies and the breaking morning and reminds us that In life, in death, O Lord, abide with me!
In Ontario Canada and an amateur organist: I first heard this hymn at my grandfather’s funeral when I was 8 years old, 73 years ago. My cherished older sister died at. 94 just days ago so this exquisite performance brought tears!
Yesterday I visited a friend and brother in faith. He is in his early 60s, is in hospital and on his way to death. It was a very sad moment to see this once strong man suffering so much. But his faith and trust in God is unbroken. We celebrated Holy Communion together and you could feel how his soul became calm in all the pain. Everything that this old, heartfelt song says is what lives in his soul! May God fill his wife's soul with peace and comfort. Thank you very much, dear Jonathan, for this wonderful interpretation! God bless you! Greetings from Northwest Germany
A fabulous arrangement, as always. Thanks again for the recital, Jonathan. Outstanding. Thank you Tom for creating such a stunning video and making such a good recording. I love the inclusion of some of Freds sheep! Clungunford is totally in awe of you both!
This was so beautiful, and it gave me goosebumps! Thank you for posting the words as well. A great reminder that Christ is with us always, even during the hard times. ❤
What other hope and comfort have we but in our Lord Jesus.... Truly it is because of His mercy we are given salvation and not consumed. How freely He extends His grace. Rest in Him, my weary soul; and sincerely pray for me, my friends, in my trials and battles. Thank you. This hymn is a precious reminder to me.
A masterful presentation, visually and aurally! A favorite hymn of mine, whose text grows in import with each verse, as Jonathan’s registrations sublimely illuminate. Utterly moving testament to faith. Thank you both.🙏🏻
Thank you so much, Jonathan and Tom. Beautiful and very moving. I liked to see the words so to be able to sing along, like I used to at my little church in Mahone Bay where my friend played the organ.
@scottbrothersduo the Italian text of this song is: Resta con noi, Signor noi ti preghiam: al mondo errante dona pace e amor! (It’s an hymn usually used in the communions!)
This is one of the most beautiful and touching videos you two have ever made! I was very, very moved by this Anthem! Beautiful, sweet, moving, hopeful, Jonathan plays the Anthem in a sweet and wonderful way, and Tom's video accompanies the melody in an incredible way! Thank you both for this amazing gift! ❤❤
My maternal great grandmother’s favorite hymn. It was played as the opening hymn for her wedding and also the opening hymn sang at her funeral service. Abide With Me was also the opening hymn of the late Prince Phillip and Her Majesty Queen Elisabeth’s wedding ceremony in 1947. It was also one of the final hymns played by the orchestra aboard the Titanic and was played at the request of Mrs. Ira Strauss, the wife of American businessman and inventor Isador Strauss
Hib Jonathan, thank you for this clip. Once upon a time, I was able to play this on my old Reed organ. ... many moons ago. So is remains very special to me!❤
Dear Jonathan, dear Tom, you have played and filmed really the text, every single word! Maybe, someone can do this without faith in God but this video ist a deep look in your hearts. Thank you therefor and this wonderful prayer in music and pichture. Stephan
It's interesting to compare the text with the very free translation we have in our Swedish hymn book: 1. Abide with me, see, when is the end of the day. Abide, O Lord, the night is soon here. When all else fails and deceives, you only faithful comforter, stay. 2. As dreams flee, so our years rush. All the joys of the earth like a breath pass away. Everything rushes towards its transformation soon. You are the same, stay with me. 3. Not just a look, a word I ask for. No, as you came to Emmaus of old and sorrowful brothers carried a heavy burden, come, not just to visit, stay with me. 4. You alone can subdue the threat of darkness and give strength to resist temptation. Every moment your closeness I have out of necessity; in cold, in sun stay, Lord, with me. 5. As a babe I was laid in the bosom of thy love, and was blessed in thy dear name. You have not left me, though on the path of wanderlust I often let you down. Oh, stay with me. 6. I fear not, since you are near in grace. Then the pain subsides, there is never a shortage of advice. Not a trace of the horror of the grave remains, and death loses its edge when I have you. 7. Your cross shall shine before my eyes, when I finally fall asleep, O Lord Jesus Christ. Then night falls, morning breaks clear. In life, in death, stay with me, Lord.
As a native English speaker I grew up singing the version Jonathan and Tom have posted in this video. I must say that the version in the Swedish Hymnal is wonderfully beautiful as well. Thanks for this.
A complete departure from your normal fare and, at least from my perspective, a welcome one. That is not to say anything negative about your videos/vlogs, quite the contrary. It's interesting to compare the text with the very free translation we have in our Swedish hymn book:

6. I fear not, since you are near in grace.
Then the pain subsides, there is never a shortage of advice.
Not a trace of the horror of the grave remains,
and death loses its edge when I have you.

I finally fall asleep, O Lord Jesus Christ.
Then night falls, morning breaks clear.
In life, in death, stay with me, Lord.
