That's my girl... THAT's how you sing a religious hymn/anthem: the way it was intended by it's author/composer, not with crazy vocal runs which trivializes it and brings it down to the level of an ordinary pop song...

Lol what is this, a young lady singing a tune which has got no connotations to the lord or anyone else, this is a tune that was sung for a sports match at Wemblyfor the final of a league match.
@Sakkra101 lol this is tradition at league matches where Abide With Me is sung, no one in the stadium cares to continental sarnies about the religious overtones, this is the tune that has been sung at finals for decades got it.
New Zealand is so lucky to have Hayley she is amazing talented and very beautiful.
Such a beautiful singer, Hayley Westenra is, in terms of both physical appearance and singing voice. Damn near impossible to not tear up when listening to her sing.

A cracking good song that brings tears to my eyes for it's beauty. I heard a Dutch Choir sing this in Arnhem, Holland at the 60th anniversary of Operation Market Garden in 2004 and it was truly, truly beautiful and emotional to hear it and listen and see WW2 Vets in floods of tears.

I've got a complaint about this young woman.. Every time she sings , I tend to shed tears. It's not a good look for my manly image, and I'm in danger of damaging the key board.

Beautiful hymn rendered by someone who did it justice. This is one of the songs that I will have sung Ashton I pass on.
It has been sung at every rugby league challenge cup final for over 80 years. I have no religion, but I would resist any attempt by the RFL to omit it. I hope one day to sing it with my team having made it to the final. It's very much a tradition from perhaps more religious days. Does that answer your question?
I used to sing this song in the Catholic Chuch they used to call me out of class when I was in Santa Maria Convent to sing in the church when someone passed away. I remember it like yesterday.💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚

Wow, this is truly amazing to hear an entire stadium singing praise to our Lord. It gave me goosebumps. I only read about this recently. What an awesome tradition and such a beautiful hymn. I would love to hear this in other sports as well here in Canada and the US. "In life or death abide in." If only more people would come to know Jesus great love for them and have their lives changed forever.

We do hear it at important state funerals and on Remembrance Day, in Canada. I played it for my Mum as she passed away a few months ago.

So much better than the pop "stars" that butcher this hymn every fa cup final! I'd waited my whole life to see my beloved Stoke City in the cup final. In 2011 my dreams came true, what should have been the most emotional part of the day, the singing of abide with me, was truly butcher by Stacey bloody Solomon!

It is amazing to me that this song approved--I personally love it. It would never fly in the US--although more "churched" than the UK, this would be crushed by the ACLU. Even if you think religion in its traditional form is archaic, there is something appealing about a message which says, "I can't always solve my own problems. If there is a power out there to help and protect me, please, be there." BTW, this hymn was written by a Scottish Anglican stricken with TB. He died 3 weeks later.
It's such a great hymn, and a very pleasent performance. I just feel a little bit sad that people just sang along at the 'abide with me' line. Maybe only elder peolple should know the whole lyricis. I feel sad becouse if we were back in time a hundred years ago, maybe all the stadium would sing altogether in one voice! England was once a world-providing country of servants of Christ, I feel sad that today we cannot say the same. But may God bless that we will see new believers in our Lord and God Jesus Christ. May the gospel be preached again in all England

what's so great about this old hymn at the Rugby playoff is that the Brits are one of the least religious country's on the planet. They love old drinking songs, patriotic hymns -- and even old church hymns -- because it's all good fun and crowd roar. Americans haven't evolved enough to pull this off.
