  • It's now the second week of my recovery fro a broken clavicle.
    There are plenty of these so called web MD's, health nuts and people making bold claims that certain foods can halve your recovery time from broken bones.
    From the online research I have done these are the super foods I should be eating.
    I've got nothing to loose so let's test the claims over the next few weeks.
    These are my personal experiences and objectives.

    Definitely no harm in trying diet and supplements, I did the same when I broke mine... But as wise sport physio told me, people who were in concentration camps, malnourished, had breaks that healed without any intervention. Your body will actually pull calcium from other bones in order to fix breaks.. pretty amazing. But that looks like a good diet period so no harm!:) Mine never healed even with supplements and after 4 months of letting it try and heal had to get a plate and 12 screws put in.. ouch all over again. good luck and as people say , take your time.. 3-5 months, not weeks!..

    From the experience with both shoulders, do not rush and let your body heal at its own pace ...
    Whatever you eat, primary recovery is usually after three weeks - full recovery - between 4 weeks and 6 weeks ...
    Even after that, work hard on physiotherapy as much as possible to strengthen the shoulder and arm ...
    Do not forget - you are not 14 anymore
    Quick Recovery - The bike will wait a little longer

    • @antiherobc
      @antiherobc  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some real solid advice there, I'll take it. yeah I don't want to push it and injure myself while healing. thanks for that, It also gives me some perspective as to how long it takes.

      Ride Rate Review it sux but he’s right, like I told you before I broke my R collar bone but also got nerve damage, but now I’m back riding, since I’m 40 now I ride for my health but it’s hard not wanting to push yourself like you were when we were teenagers lol

    • @sp00n
      @sp00n 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      4-6 weeks is for "normal" bones. The collar bone is relatively badly supplied with blood, so it takes about 3 months, of course depending on the type of injury (crack, clean fracture, splintered fracture, etc). And yeah, for me it did take 3 months before I was officially allowed on the MTB again. Of course that didn't stop me from getting on the bike sooner, but I was taking it very easy and I actually did notice my shoulder after each ride.

    I fractured my Tibia and fibula (motorbike accidents, car semi drove over my foot/leg). 4 hr op, 13 screws and 2 titanium plates. Dr reckons stick to my normal diet which did not contain all the goodies in your video.
    I have however decided to consume stuff that will assist in the healing process:
    Lindseeds, goji berries, pumpkin seed,spinach, pineapple, vitamin c, boiled eggs for protein, bananas, strawberries, blueberries.
    I reckon the secret is the comfrey plant. I am currently drinking comfrey tea and capsules. Smashed comfrey leaves and roots should be placed and wrapped around the fractured bone (or placed on top of..). Sleep with it there....read up on it. Knit-bone plant..!
    Good luck with your healing process! Take it easy

    Thank you! Hope it’s gone well. Suggest: use goat yogurt, NOT cow dairy products. Why? B/c goats produce a more digestible, better quality product. European chefs recipes usually ask for goat yogurt, milk, cheeses, etc. -Cows eat grass, hay, and corn. (Hellooo....”hay fever”, from milk made of stuff we are allergic to?..) And they unfortunately are fed a lot of antibiotics, which then screw up our gut biome. Goats, instead, browse on a much wider diet, more similar to the veggies and leaves that we digest. Goats even produce their own vitamin C! Very few critters can do that. -Goat cheese now comes in yummy variety like cheddar and Munster, so please do try some in your favorite recipes. And happy riding!!!

    • @antiherobc
      @antiherobc  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good to know, it is difficult to find that anywhere here in south Africa as goats are not so popular. I'd really like to try it though to see how good it tastes. I eat quite a bit a yogurt nowadays.

      Ride Rate Review : Hello again! I suddenly remembered that Saanen goats (a popular milking breed) are raised in SA. So I briefly looked online. Would you believe there’s a yearly (April) SA Cheese Festival , where goat dairies products are part of the showcase. Some 30,000 people go. (,!!!!) There’s probably a year-round website or 2, that has contact/buying/shipping info for goat dairies products. Good luck! Also, if there’s a grocer or deli near you, ask , their manager , where are their goat cheeses and yoghurts? And if they don’t stock any, look shocked and say, can you order some? 🐐😁🚵‍♂️

    I disagree with your diet. I'm a professional chef and certified in Macrobiotic healing philosophy (which I don't think is useful for broken bones.)
    I broke my femur and wrist. Whilst bed ridden eating very little so the body does not have to decide where to focus the energy. Fruit is sugar,so is dried fruit even worse. Nuts very hard to digest. My diet is based on advocado, pasture raised meats, especially beef liver... which has the most nutrient dense profile of any animal meat. Non commercial eggs every day. I'm into my 3rd week post surgery, I can stand, use a wheelchair propel with my broken wrist hand, write, comb my hair and eat. BTW I'm 60 years old.
    Diet is key! I also use high quality MSM supplement.

      Fruits do not impair healing and neither does sugar, fruits are hydrating and have potassium, vitamin C in which are involved in the repair of collagen, they're also high in antioxidants which can indirectly assist bone healing as well, I'll also have you know that the most of the macro nutrients found in human breast milk is sugar.
