Cid deciding to destroy Crimson instead of fight him may just be the show saying, "What's a funny thing for him to do that will help us skip needing to give Crimson any screen time?" Not giving Aurora more screen time is a real shame. If they gave her another 2 or three minutes to show that she can stand on even ground with the blood queen, and THEN fail at going atomic, that would have been ideal. Her conversation with Claire in the nurses office seems to take more screen time than her actual fight did. More importantly, I feel like changing the first part of the encounter to just a feeler clash was done in part for either budget reasons or so that the animators could, ya know, actually live somewhat healthily (or both). The back half of it was also likely changed due to simple difficulty. While displaying what was described wouldn't be completely impossible, it'd be incredibly difficult.
