    I've noticed a lot of interest in topics like weight loss and anti-fat acceptance, so I decided to create a separate channel dedicated to those discussions. This way, I can keep this page focused on all things fashion! Check out my new channel, Angelyca Unfiltered www.youtube.com/@AngelycaUnfiltered for more unfiltered content. Hope to see you there!

    I liked something I read on the internet, "if it's worth doing, it's worth half-assing." Meaning that even if it's not perfect it's better to do it than skipping it all together.

    I'm trying to lose like, ten pounds. It's so freaking hard and not fun. I really respect and admire people who have lost a lot of weight. I just love to eat. Period. It's not so much emotional, it's just that I actually find it really pleasurable and.... I just love to eat! I imagine it's so much harder when you have legitimate mental illness tied to eating. You're doing great. Don't listen to the haters and cancellers.

      Funnily enough that last 10 lbs or only 10 lbs is always a bit harder 😅 I’ve lost 60 lbs at least and I have 10 to go. Been on that 10 for like a friggin year lol I just am not willing to go as lean as I need to for my ideal weight. At least I’m at a normal weight now- just the top of the threshold lol

Like someone else said, those ones are the ones that require the most lifestyle change, oftentimes, and as long as you're healthy it's good to carry a few extra pounds in case you get sick and can't eat 💕

    Great advice in here. I wanna double underline and circle that clip you shared by the sweary lady who emphasized persistence and perfect being the enemy of good, because keeping this mindset helped me get my ADHD-dopamine-snacking ass on track in 2015 and lose 100 lbs and maintain it but for gaining back 40 over the pandemic due to depression and stress (have since lost those 40 lbs and feel fantastic again).
    Im legitimately so excited for you and everybody who grew up fat and has their lightbulb moment in adulthood- you are not going to believe how good a healthy weight feels- even those first 10 lbs that push you from normal to overweight make a massive difference in energy level, emotional resiliance, managing an unruly brain, and general wellbeing (idk about chronic illnesses, but have heard it can help with some) It's a funny feeling when same-aged people around you who gained 60 lbs since highschool moan about their aches and pains with a big ol "Getting old sucks!" and you just shrug with a "huh, can't relate." Lol
    Also, big respect for sharing your story and getting out of the cult. Been thinking about making content myself because the misinformation and testament of Caloric Calvinsim (genetics etc) that they spread around for the sake of their egos robs people of so much and it's not right. Millennials bought into their BS hard and I know so many good people who have suffered such a degredation in their quality of life just because they think you're either born destined to be fat or it's an inevitable eventuality of adulthood, especially womanhood, motherhood, menopause. Such lies. Thank you for being a voice of reason and apologies for the novella (plus, Apple Nachos?? Googling that!).

    • @angelycaviolet
      @angelycaviolet  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I saw the Apple nachos on TikTok! People just slice up apples then drizzle peanuts butter on it then add granola, berries, nuts, candies, whatever you want. I usually do a honey crisp apples, pb2 + lite syrup and chop up a Reese for my toppings. Good way to get in a sweet treat and some fruit!
      Getting my ADHD under control or learning how to live with it has been a struggle with my weight loss/health journey! It’s so hard for me to keep a routine but now I just go with the flow. If I feel like walking then I get up in walk! I’m not the type of person to be like “I’m gonna work on Monday, Wednesday, Friday” because it makes me feel trapped.
      You should make a video about caloric calvinism! I would love to learn more about it. Being told by so many people in the fat acceptance community that “Genetics control our weight” and “Fat people are fat naturally” made me give up on trying to lose weight but when I started waiting anti-fat acceptance content and heard contradicting information then I gained some hope. It’s truly liberating to know that we are in control of a lot more than we are led to believe. We are not completely helpless and I hope more people start to understand that!
      It’s honestly shocking how much my life has changed since losing 55lbs. I wake up 2 hours earlier, move so much more, rarely have any back pain, rarely tired, my mental health is the best it’s ever been and I have the energy to keep up with all household tasks. Hate to say it but people were right, losing weight is one of the best things to do for yourself when overweight!

    Unpopular opinion but fat acceptance helped me lose weight sustainably when I was obese. There are nuances and I'm glad you found ways to lose weight that work for you. People hear 'fat acceptance' and think it's about people being complacent and unwilling to change. Metabolic health and other contributing factors to someone's health are far more complex than this concept suggests.
    Everyone has fat and it's all distributed differently. In my opinion fat acceptance is a form of body neutrality. It forced me not to use restrictive disordered eating to neglect my underlying chronic health conditions.
    What I worry about is how many overweight people with eating disorders like atypical anorexia, orthorexia, etc. are invalidated in the personal lives due to their size. I wish people were more considerate about how they speak about other people's body types online.

    • @mightykaytor

      @candace3493 always nice to get more nuance and varied perspectives on a complicated and fraught topic.

    • @angelycaviolet

      I’m happy to hear that fat acceptance content helped you so much! I wish everyone could be in a happy and healthy place with their body. I don’t want anyone to be in distress.
      I think the movement/ community has pros and cons like most. I agree with the FA community that we should all try to love ourselves and know that we are worthy no matter what shape or size we are. I agree that people shouldn’t be discriminated against because of their weight but just because someone disagrees with you or a doctor recommends someone to lose weight, doesn’t make them fatphobic.
      My biggest gripe with the FA community is that they have become very bitter and mislead others. They are constantly saying that they don’t care what other people do with their body then rant and rave when someone loses weight. Or they bully thin women for talking about their struggles with having body dysmorphia because fat people “have it worse”. Or they talk about how it’s impossible to lose weight because of genetics. Yeah, it may be more difficult to lose weight if you have metabolic syndromes (1/3 Americans do) but making healthy lifestyle changes can greatly reduce symptoms and make weight loss easier. There are tons of people online that have talked about how they lost weight with PCOS, diabetes, high blood pressure, binge ED. Not saying it’s easy, it’s just possible. I don’t want people to feel completely helpless in their situations. Health is going to be slightly different from person to person but there is a general consensus of what healthy is.
      The FA movement made me feel helpless and angry but after seeing other people share their perspectives, it made me realize that I have control over more than I was led to believe. We may not be able to control the outcome of situations but we do control our actions.

    • @candace3493
      @candace3493 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @@angelycaviolet Thank you for taking the time to reply. I appreciate how you addressed the parts of FA that resonated with you and you think are helpful, such as loving yourself and seeing how we're worthy at all sizes. I also agree that things like an anti inflammatory diet and exercise and generally beneficial for everyone.
      I am glad you point out the things you take issue with in FA, and for the most part I agree. I do think that thin privilege, while being real, is perhaps overstated and does not take away from the responsibility to not harass other people or comment on their weight. Or to invalidate their experiences. I think what people get wrong is that reacting to content online is totally always warranted or that people are entitled to a response. I do think for some people, weight loss, if it's attainable, is a multi year project, and I see pressure both irl and online to do so in ways that yield faster results. Some people, for a myriad of factors may only be able to maintain their weight. But this is something where I levelled with myself and had to say, and sometimes cry, about not ever being able to drink alcohol or eat takeout with added sugar in it again, even if it means I don't get to see myself in a thinner body. These are choices that I have to make to manage my FODMAP intolerance, finances and mental health. FA to me is just a way to say, you can make healthy choices and love yourself in a fat body. You can do what you can to make exercise more comfortable. And for others, it may be a way for them to have their comfort foods in a sustainable way. But you're right that some people may suggest that any form of dieting is inherently disordered, which is wrong.
      I am a bit biased in favour of FA content because I'm still grateful for FA content out there, and I think that there are some things people criticize with FA that they don't criticize thin creators/influencers and other people existing online. Like GWORL world seems like it’s just bullying fat creators and then taking things too far when calling them out for harmful behaviour. I recognize that my biases are likely because of my positive experiences with FA and body neutrality. For others, it may be preventing them from making changes that could be helping them.
      I think that it’s important to consider that some food choices are more circumstantial as well as behavioural. For example, if someone’s precariously housed (e.g. couch surfing, living somewhere without access to kitchen appliances, living in a car or homeless) some of their dietary choices are confined to what’s available where they live and what they can prep and store.
      I am sad to see more criticism as FA has entered this era where it’s considered cringy or diametricially opposed to healthy lifestyles. Having just turning 30, I remember my childhood in the 2000s being difficult enough in a thin body. It was important, for many people, to see an increase in representation in media and easily accessible criticism of why being thin, as opposed to healthy, was THE prescribed standard of beauty.
      This being said, I think some people in FA don’t execute this very well and can be hypocritical, as many communities can be, when we overanalyze and take time to comment on people’s appearance. I don’t like when people say it’s promoting diet culture, as if there isn’t a shared responsibility for the audience to use discretion to choose what they’re watching.
      I understand that this happens with triggering content and may be hard for people to disengage from or educate themselves to hold space for many perspectives. But I think when some people who are fat lose weight, some people perpetuate this idea that everyone can lose a substantial amount of weight, and although this is not the fault of the people who lose weight and make statements about how attainable weight loss is from a place of encouragement, the effect is that people use this as justification to not content with how they may be harassing fat people.
      Sorry for the essay, there’s so much that could be said about this topic and I hope that this perspective is welcome.

    • @candace3493
      @candace3493 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I think you're deliberately misinterpreting what I'm saying because you don't like body neutrality and understandably, have criticisms about fat acceptance. Either that or by how I phrased it you did could not figure out what I meant. I was never trying to be critical of Angelyca speaking about her body. By all means, it takes a lot of courage to discuss these topics. I'm upset that people harassed Angelyca under the guise of body positivity. Anyone doing this in my mind is immature. You're interpreting this as if I'm condemning Angelyca for speaking about her own experiences losing weight and with her chronic illness. This is a misinterpretation of why I said I don't think people should be discussing others' body types. As in someone who isn't you. I was expressing my disappointment in the people who harassed her or treated her as if she's the reason fatphobia exists. And I still stand by it, we shouldn't be speaking about other people's weight at all.

    • @kpkpkpkp359
      @kpkpkpkp359 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

      Ideally fat acceptance should be a good thing, like I’m fat and I love weight training and I’ve noticed people are really accepting at the gym I rarely feel othered by even the fittest people. It’s great to realize that being fat is not a moral failure. We deserve kindness and decency just like everyone else.
      What’s harmful about FA is the attitude that intentional weight loss is always bad, that long term weight loss is impossible and that there are no health consequences of a western diet that promotes obesity. Those attitudes are anti-science and undermine body autonomy and reinforce the idea that your weight is a moral issue.
      I don’t think the FA community, as it is now, is body neutral, at least not the loudest most extreme voices within it. We should always be wary of what more popular influencers are selling us, because they are financially motivated to be extreme and generate engagement.

    My body is the same. I was living to eat- not eating to live. I am down 67 from my vsg in 5 months, and I fuel my body with protein. Is it tough as a vegetarian with sensory issues? Yep. But I make it work.
    I don't feel good when I was that obese. I feel amazing down this weight (close to yours!) and now I'm not tachycardic, sweaty, tired, and achy. I still have a ways to go, but I can't exercise due to long covid, and knowing I am down 67 lbs in only 5 months makes me cry. Focusing on nutrition has been my only choice and it's rough as hell mentally, but it's SO hard.
    HAES can do whatever they want, but it didn't work for me. I need to be healthier for ME.

      I think a lot of people struggle with the idea that others do things for themselves. Yes, I understand that there are beauty standards and we care about other people's opinions sometimes but at the end of the day, we all usually act in favor of what is best for us and not always thinking about other people. I want to lose weight for me, not for attention and I don't hate people that are bigger than me. I get tattoos because I love the art, not because I want people to think I am bad ass. Just how you bought the car because you thought it was the safest and most reliable. Like we are allowed to put ourselves first and that doesn't make us bad people, it makes us human.

    The science says that insulin is the main hormone that tells the body to store blood glucose in the cells as fat or to allow the cells to release the stored glucose (fat) to burn for energy.
    The key to weight loss is to prevent insulin from spiking and/or having elevated blood glucose. Prioritizing protein does get you part of the way there, but truly...not consuming anything that will spike your insulin (carbs including sugar), thus blood glucose, and keeping your insulin/blood glucose low and steady WILL allow your body to use your stored fat for energy and you cannot help but lose weight.
    Dr Ben Bikman, a cellular microbiologist, is considered the world expert on insulin. He has many videos on TH-cam where he is the presenter or being interviewed, and he is able to simplify the science so anyone can understand. His first mantra is "prioritize protein" but he has other mantras that are helpful, as well.

      Blood sugar spikes are entirely normal to a degree. There is no reason to avoid them completely, it's signifying that your body is acting normally. Obviously limiting high spikes can be helpful, and if you have diabetes you need to watch that closely, but normally functioning people don't need to entirely prevent them.

    • @joannathesinger770
      @joannathesinger770 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @yallthought8444 When one is overweight, one's metabolism is NOT functioning normally to begin with. That's where consulting a medical professional and having a good blood workup is critical. Where is your insulin, A1C, and fasting glucose? If one is trying to lose weight, then one should avoid blood sugar/insulin spikes to stay in fat-burning mode. If your BMI is under 25, then yes, the occasional blood sugar/insulin spike is nothing to fear. However...this video addresses someone who's BMI is FAR above 25.
      My BMI is between 28 and 29, but my fasting glucose is 85, my A1C is 4.1, and my insulin is 13. The occasional spike decidedly won't hurt me with numbers like that, but my goal is to get my BMI back around 24 so I attempt to keep my insulin stable and not spiking. At my age (67), my numbers may not stay so optimum, so I have to "strike while the iron is hot" in order to lose weight. Chances are...if you are watching this video, then you are most likely trying to lose weight, as well.

I find that the mini goals is a good way to go, like i want to get down to 180, but focusing on getting to the next 20lb milestone makes it easier. Also i've found that not factoring in exercise into my calorie deficit, it just doesn't seem to matter.
    There's some good about FA (loving your body where it is), but there's a denial of the impact of being fat on your health that just bothers me. Especially mobility, like at a certain point being obese will impact your mobility.

  • @telilah85

    No offence meant pretty sure that is not how you calculate a calorie deficit. There are calculators online but it’s based on your calorie needs to maintain the weight you are, which is different if you’re male or female and your current weight plus activity level (if you’re exercising every day and have a highly active job you’re going to need a lot more calories than someone that’s sedentary) and then you take that number and reduce it but not below 1200. I’m not an expert just on my own weight loss journey. Apps like my fitness pal and lose it just do that calculation for you but I’m pretty confident if I ate 2400 calories I would never reach my 200 pound goal I would gain weight for sure.

    What a fantastic video! 👏🏼 I just found you and you have a new sub. 🫶🏼
    I’m on my own weight loss journey and one of the things I was reflecting on is how sustainable, steady, healthy weight loss is not sudden or dramatic, so my over 10kg loss (20ish+ lbs) seems like “nothing” as I still have a good chunk to lose.
    And I’ve felt guilty for losing weight because of the Fat Acceptance and HAES discourse; I’ve never been part of the moment but it being so loud for so long made me feel like I’m committing a crime for intentionally losing weight.

      10kg/20lbs is A LOT! Congratulations. You fucking rock. Obviously weight loss is the goal but building healthy habits is the most important. If we want to keep the weight off then we need to do it in a sustainable way. Making small changes over time is key! Keeping a routine is hard for me because I have ADHD but I gotta work with what I got so if I am in the mood to exercise or a salad, I hurry up and act on those desires before they fade away. Just got to figure out what is best for us
