Do you know what the Starion/Conquest is?
Don’t forget to like and Subscribe!
I used to have a cousin to this car it was a Plymouth Sapporo.
My uncle paid 18k (when a Z28 cost 15) in 84, for an 85 😂
Thanks for doing this. I requested you guys do this one. Grew up loving these when my family owned a Mitsubishi dealership. Thanks for coming through 👍🏽
I need yall fellas to work on my (very original) 06 350z, if I still smoked weed, I could do it lmao 😂
Friend of mine shared me the video because I have one! You guys are right, no one sees these things anymore and always flock to it when I bring it to cars and coffee. So many stories of people having one or knowing someone who did, it's sad there's not more of them on the road.
This is definitely a Conquest, The badging for the Starion is missing, plus a Starion would not have a plate in it saying " built for Chrysler ! I should know, I worked for Mitsubishi in Berlin. Love your work guys, keep it up.
Yeah definitely a Conquest due to the badging, but this has a ton of bits and bobs from both models, as well as from the entire model history of the car. Hood is from an '83 (they removed the vented hood afterwards, for whatever reason), rear hatch glass is from a Starion (turbo decal was only installed on them), steering wheel is from an 88/89, SHP wheels (1" wider all around vs a stock 87), rare factory molded mudflaps, those AUS/JDM starion taillights (US didn't have dedicated amber turn signals, the whole rear light doubles as the flasher ln US cars), vents behind the doors aren't the typical ones for an '87 (I think they're off a flatty?) as the stock ones protrude more, and those side marker turn signals on the front fender.
It's a shame the stock radio and surround trim is gone, the OEM radio is killer with a full analog graphic equalizer. The surround trim probably shattered when removing it at some point in its life, all the plastic in these things are like glass.
Either way, this car was definitely loved by the owner in it's lifetime with the sheer amount of customization and choice of upgrades under the hood. Glad to see it polished back up to be enjoyed!
You are incorrect. Conquest never had the "Turbo" inscription on the hatch. Only Starions. Unless the hatch was swapped its a Starion.
Mike was wrong!
exactly i owned at least 5 of these over the years and you're 100% correct
This is a mix and match of parts so no telling what it is without a vin. Although I don't know how you can visually tell shp wheels versus non shp wheels. Maybe from poke but also you could just have a half inch spacer.
Randy's been the man for parts and advice on the SQ boards for as long as I can remember. I remember when this car "came up" as it was being built, but not the specifics of it. Hard to tell the exact year of it (unless I missed it in the video). It's got 86-87 seats, an 88-89 steering wheel, and a one-year-only 83 hood. One thing's for sure though..."Dad" built it right back then, and will surely resurrect it properly. Can't wait to see it.
I loved these cars. As an 80s baby and a Mitsubishi car fan, It always excited me to see the Starion/Conquest TSI rolling on the streets. Great video, and great detail as always. Keep it coming!
lmfao the chicken scene was hilarious. In Australia those Mitsubishi Starions are really rare now, i love the styling
Alternate video title : car detailing crew harasses chickens and steals their eggs
Definitely this is a Conquest TSI!
The first car I ever bought on my own was a ‘88 Conquest TSI SHP in Electric Blue! Loved that car!!! Served me well while I was in the USAF. Very peppy car and so much fun to drive. The throttle body was the Achilles heel. Thanks for this video and trip down memory lane. 💙
Love this- I had a 1986 Silver Starion and my brother had a 1987 Black Starion identical to your detail. They were like a less expensive version of a Porsche 944 but looked somewhat similar. Super cool at the time ( I was 18) and now 56- love this and all your videos.
Seeing you guys chasing the chickens was hilarious, love that beautiful little car. Looks a lot like a Supra from that era. ☺️👍
Taillights are not from Australia they're from the European and Asian models. Mudflaps are a rare item also. I've owned about 15 of these cars since 1997 and are very familiar with them them and all they're accessories.
Have you heard/saw anything about the rain guards? Are they actually 1 of 1 or just some other random mass produced rain guards that happen to fit the vehicle?
@AuroraGw2 if randy says there one of one I believe it
This is hands down one of the more well preserved Conquests I have ever seen. Even from seeing one’s back in the ‘90s. The interiors always seemed to wear out so quickly. So awesome to see you guys bring this not so well known icon to life! 😎
Rj wild did he say my Grandpa basement smell like chicken
I'm 41. There's something cool about being in the older generation and seeing the next generation discover these cars for the first time. Lol I've always liked conquest/starions. I almost bought one a few years back. Super clean, 1 owner car that a neighbor had since new. Shortly after he finally agreed to sell it to me, it got totaled by some kids in a stolen car. Lol
its kinda of funny. the other day i saw a video called something like 'the forgotten pontiac no one knows about' and it was just Bonneville SSEi. Son, we have not forgotten lol. I think THEY think no one over 25 watches youtube.
euro spec parts, 83 hood, well kept bay, bunch of rare parts scattered all over. someone really loved this car
The chicken part was the best, made my day.
You guys are the best!! I look forward to every new video and can’t wait to see what I’ll learn about some cars I’ve never even heard of! You’ve inspired my buddy and I to do our own details on the side! It’s so fun and satisfying to do!
I believe that's it's a Conquest. The Mitsubishi Station GS-R would have the Mitsubishi 3 Diamond logo on the front hood, rear lift back and wheels.
Love this Car and your channel. Keep up the good work guys!
Drove a Conquest back in 90/91 and man that drive stuck with me til today!
Yes! Yes! Yes! I have been waiting for this video! The Starion was so 80’s futuristic… with its crazy “digital” dash and angular lines. The Starion and Conquest were the muscle cars trying to serve synth wave Tron fantasy… I wouldn’t be surprised if Hyundai is using this car as inspiration for some of their retro futuristic show car styling, and as a middle aged Gen Xer I think the Starion has held up.
The early Hyundai vehicles used Mitsubishi engines and drivetrains.
I've had several Conquests. Currently have an 87 Conquest, Shetland beige in need of restoration. This Conquest has many "unicorn" parts on it! Its got a 1983 hood with scoops, rare Australian tail lights, "Turbo" badged hatch glass and Japanese sidemarkers on fenders! This inspires me to get working on mine!
I know about the Conquest…back when the 80’s I was a salesman in a Dodge dealership. The Conquest is/was a sweet ride
Dear wyd detailing, I want to say that yall are doing an amazing jobs on these cars, such a crazy difference on before and after, yall have helped me me so much and have inspired me to start my own home detailing business, anytime I need help, I go and look at yalls videos and definitely going to buy mech and definitely going to get all the same products y’all use, but also yall are my favorite TH-camrs!!
Hello from central Georgia! I’ve been watching your channel a while but this is my first time commenting. I remember seeing my first Starion back in 2006. They look great in motion too 😎
Great video this week guys. The chickens were a riot lol.
Thank you! We had a lot of fun with them
I stumbled onto the detailing world by accident, i do enjoy watching the power washing. i started with Detail Geek, then Ammo NYC, and then you guys... you guys may have been 3rd to my exposure but WD became number 1. i love how authentic and genuine you guys are... (guys, do more motorcycles....lol)
I got to WD the very same way and now I only watch WD detailing. They are for sure number 1.
@@markussteinmann2890 Thank you guys!
Welcome!
...another great car brought back to life, loved these back in the day, love that you have a passion for older classics, been waiting for this one since this Starrion showed up in the background of the shop...wait...what ??? ...where did that Mustang come from ?!?!? #detailthis
1st time I saw one (Conquest) looked like inexpensive option to a Porsche 944 Turbo S. At the dealerships goin for 14k in 1988. Beautiful!!!
Great video! I was looking through the products you used and don't see the "Tri clean" listed in your links, nor does it come up on amazon. If you are getting something from affiliate links do you have a link to the triclean? Also would that be acceptable for a cloth interior car? My mold/mildew isn't as bad but i have been fighting it for years after my car was stored in an underground garage that was humid. I had been using a mold control spray and moisture absorber but I want to pull all the carpet out and replace it and clean all the harder surfaces. The tricky part is the cloth seats as they aren't really any replacement seat cloth I can use.
Thanks!
You guys are miracle workers!! And sooo much fun to watch!! Keep doing what you’re doing…it works!!
The Dodge Neon 2.0L 16v engine was a Mitsubishi. I had a friend in high school in the late 90's that had a yellow Conquest. Always loved the car.
Wait, what? That was a Mitsubishi? Oh my. When I Bought my Neon I had no clue of that. I thought it was Dodge. I'm very embarrassed right now.
@@CuriousMess61 just an engine from mitsubishi
We had the Starion here in Australia in the 80s. I think they were marketed through Chrysler. I had the Galant and Lancer and friend had the Galant GTO. Love this car.
Detail that awesome conversion van for him that would be quite a video and a big job those usually have quite an interior
Almost bought a Starion in 1988. It was the first time I'd seen one and fell in love with it. It was metallic petrol blue with colour matched corduroy interior. Priced at £8700. For some stupid reason I bought an XR2 instead
I got some merch. I got myself a white “dad” cap 😎. Thanks Guys for doing a great job. I enjoy the shows!
I used to work at a dealership that had one of the Conquest taken on trade. It was bright red, black leather and a manual transmission. I freaking loved it. I wanted to buy it so bad, but I was only 17 at the time, and my mom was a firm no. My dad was all about it. But mom vetoed dad. lol.
They raced these in Bathurst, Australia premiere road race against some of the toughest Aussie race cars ever. Big respect for these cars down under👍🏻🇦🇺
Such a gorgeous car, ask me how i know 😅 only thing that really distinguishes Starion vs Conquest is the badging and the Tail Lights. 2nd letter on the VIN denotes brand: JJ - Conquest. This one also has a 1983 hood (only year with hood vents), rare molded mud flaps (last year a guy was selling a set for $1000!). Also has the 88-89 Special Handling Package wider wheels, you can tell by the rectangle around the brand logo on the wheels. i believe 88-89 also had rear shoulder belts? That front bumper is also either off an 88/89 or an aftermarket. Dad is our guru! Hahaha great video!
Being a car guy all my life, I really liked these cars as a kid. They even used this car in Cannonball Run 2 movie.
1960s mustang in the back round. Been waiting for you to do one for a while
I knew Mitsu and dodge both made it, but I never knew what the mitsu was called so I called them all conquest haha
Nice job guys! My buddy had a Conquest in high school in 1990. Cool cars just slow. Trans Ams and 5 liter Mustangs used to eat those cars up! Nice restoration!
I have never heard of this car. I did once own a 1991 Plymouth Laser RS. Which was a rebadged Mitsubishi Eclipse. It said under the hood that it was made for Plymouth by Mitsubishi. The Laser was a sweet car. I wish I could have kept it. The interior was beautiful. A grey velour. The center stack console curved toward the driver. It was like you were in a cockpit. And the best part was the pop-up headlights. lol.
Absolute my favorite car growing up in the 80’s they are very rare to find enjoy them
I loved these cars back in the day. Especially the red with black interior 👍😎
I’m old. So I remember when these (and the American variants) first came out. I always wanted one of these. Super cool! Great video as usual. Thank you 😊
Love ,love your channel, makes me want to detail my beetle...thank you guys for the content
Hi guys, great program love the content. I used to be a new car salesman at Mount Clemens. Dodge in Mount Clemens, Michigan in the late 80s. Early 90s had a conquest TSI for a demo. It was an awesome car really like your videos keep them up
Hood scoop is unique to the Starion. I owned a 86 TSI back in 92. Fun car and still look great to this day. Wish I still had the car.
specifically only the '83 model in the US. Lots of bits on this one from other cars. It's a Conquest, though. The firewall badge is all you need to know for that.
Its not JDM. That means Japanes "domestic" Market with right hand drive. Not all Japanese cars are JDM. This is a Conquest for the US market, not JDM
Dude RJ must be killing the squats because his booty is 💯
Looked at a used one in 1990. Didn’t like the turbo lag
The seatbelts are unique nice little touch. I graduated HS in ‘86 and remember the Conquest always liked the body lines but I don’t remember the Starion but I did grow up in a small town with no Mitsubishi dealer so 🤷🏻♂️. Enjoying all your videos 👍
Hello! I’m very happy to tell you I knew what the car was by the thumbnail. I don’t miss many of your videos. The European twilights on the Starion (conquest) the plate reads made by Mitsubishi for Chrysler its a Conquest I think it’s great to see young guys get involved in the older cars. Keep up what you’re doing. I don’t miss many videos unless it’s a car I don’t care much for.
My favorite channel.. I am following you from the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan 🇯🇴❤
Lovin that '66(?) Stang in the background there
The Chickens 🐔😂
I saw these in the back of a couple videos and have been waiting YEAHHHH
i own a Mitsubishi lancer 1985 model 1800 turbo lsd diff very similar to the starion.
I remember them, you know why?I'm an old Chrysler mechanic of them days.the cars of those days I can tell you the good bad an uglies of the Dodge Daytona 2+2,Starion,StealthRT,,Dodge GLH,I worked on them all.had the honor to scamper around torque steer galor.loved it.that Stasrion 2.5L was a horrible engine as far as I was cocerned.sorry.I was working on them for 30 years after also.
In the 80's the Mercury Capri (the Mercury version of the Ford Mustang obviously) had the same style of "widebody" fenders. One of the things that made it just a little bit more unique than the Mustang, in my opinion.
I've never seen one of these cars, pretty cool.
Awesome job, and very educational, as always. 👍
I kind of skimmed through the video - so I might've missed it - but why are the headlights stuck in the "Up" position? Great video!!!!! 🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁🏁
I bought my son a Black 88 TSI for his 16th birthday. Unfortunately a year later in an ice storm he had a 5 mph rollover. Totaled the car out. But I bought him a n 86 that had mechanical problems and we pieced together a running car. He kept the car and had a car reared him a few years later. Cool Insurance guy gave him enough money for repairs and a new paint job. He added the 83 hood to it and an 89 front air dam. Years later he pulled the 2.6 and installed a 2JZ Supra engine and 5-speed manual trans. A big Garret T 77 turbo. 3” custom exhaust and custom made drive shaft. He still has it today and drives it on pretty days. I also own an 88 Conquest TSI with a built 2.6 with an 18 G turbo. These are fun cars and it really rare to see them.
One reason you don't see them is that Mitsubishi and Chrysler Corp began to end the relationship. Mitsubishi had no dealers in the USA before 1986. By 87 Mitsubishi and even the name in the usa were few and rare and pretty unknown to Americans by and large. They probably sold the Plymouth conquest in a 10 to 1 ration to the station. Dodge never had a version, only Plymouth and then Chrysler. No Dodge or eagle version
Look up the original ads for Dodge Conquest. They exist.
I love your channel, love how humble you guys are and fun to watch. I used to live in Cleveland so watching takes me home knowing where you guys are. Keep up the great work. I look forward to what is next every week
This car is very special for me because I have ALWAYS wanted a Conquest Tsi with the G54B 2.6L engine (a big I-4). I have owned a 1990 Eagle Talon Tsi AWD, a 1992 Plymouth Colt hatchback (Mitsubishi Mirage) that I swapped a fully built 4g63t into and converted to AWD with Eclipse parts, a 1990 Dodge Colt hatchback that I swapped a junkyard 4g63 NA engine into with a 5 speed manual that was alot of fun, and I even owned a 1989 Eagle Summit sedan with a stock NA 4g61 (the 1.6L DOHC smaller brother of the 4g63) that I turbocharged using DSM parts with a 5 speed manual. It was a rare car as well. I was a moderator of a forum that was completely dedicated to all CSM (Colt/Summit/Mirage) cars, along with Galant VR4s, 3000GT VR4s, and all versions of the DSM cars and we have all built SO many different iterations of these cars. I haven't seen ANY of these cars here in Pittsburgh for many many years.
Back in 87, I was a mere 33 years old and a Big Ol' Gear head! I looked at a new Chrysler Conquest and the Starion. I wanted either one in Bright red, and I could have gotten one or the other, but I would have had to order it and not being blessed with any patience at that time, I ended up not getting either one and bought a new Grand Am instead! Not one of the smartest moves I ever made, to say the least!!!
What's funny to me is they went from not knowing what the SQ was to essentially getting a crash course from the Obi-Wan Kenobi of the Star quest community 😁
👏🏼👏🏼
So happy yall finally did a video on this Bcus as a dodge stealth owner myself I love 90s mopars such as this one
It's a conquest. The Vin would tell you know. It's not a starion
One of my fondest memories from when I was young man is, in 1989 I was 23 and I was working for a courier service in downtown Washington DC. There was a woman that worked in the building, she was about 25 with blazing red hair, a beautiful body and she was packing double D’s. She was gorgeous. And I would often see her come and go in her brand new Dodge conquest widebody. It was gold metallic, and the picture of her in that car is one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen.
1987 was the best year for every car maker~
Toyota had the 4 Runner and the 4X4 Pickup and the Supra
Nissan had the 300 ZX and the Pathfinder
Ford had the Mustang GT
Chevy had the Monte Carlo SS and Corvette
Mercury had the Cougar XR7
Chrysler had the Daytona Shelby Z and the GLH
Love the Starion! I had an '86 Conquest for a short time, but it ended up having a cracked head, so I sold it as-is since I couldn't afford to have a new head put on it. I like the '87 better with the wide body. Mine had the leather interior with digital dash. I was amazed that it had fully independent suspension with RWD in 1986.
If it was sold at a Mitsubishi Dealership it was a Starion. If it was sold and a Dodge Dealership it was a Conquest. I had a 1986 Mitsubishi Cordia Turbo from that same era. I had to drive to Illinois to get it. Because, back then their were no Mitsubishi Dealerships in Michigan. 1987 was also the second year of the 3rd brake light. I also had a Plymouth Arrow which was a Mitsubishi. It was my present for graduating from H.S. The total cost of the car was $4000.00 approx. My payments were $93.55/mo. Why I remember that number I have no idea. Those cars also had points that had to be changed every six months due to pitting.
I forgot about these cars.
Very cool looking car. It would look especially good with the right wheels and stance. I really love that has a manual transmission and rear wheel drive.
This car is an 80's legend! Great job everyone! An earlier narrow body version of this car was also featured in the 1981 movie Cannonball Run II as the Japanese gadget laden technology race car.
Is that the car with the legend Jackie Chan, one of the first times he appeared in a American production, the car drove on water if I remember correctly. 😅
I love these cars!
I had one of these Starion ESIR from 1987 until 1995. This particular one looks like 1988 based on the shape of front air dam. And I believe this particular car is the Chrysler Conquest variant due to the missing badge. Both the Conquest and Starion were made in Japan by Mitsubishi, just rebadged by Chrysler when they were imported.
Also, I HATE to say it, but I would LOVE to get this car and swap a 6G72TT into it with a regular RWD 5 speed transmission. The G54B just doesn't do it for me.
Mitsubishi was branded as "Colt" when they released the Starion here in the UK. Engine was 1997cc, putting out 170bhp. Often referred to as "the poor man's Lotus Esprit" but was actually better (and certainly more reliable)
YOU GOT TO WATCH OUT FOR THE ROOSTERS. They are mean! I use a metal trash can lid as a shield when I have to enter a coup with a rooster.
Imagine making a video and saying this is a Sterion and definitely not a conquest and then turns out that actually is a conquest and they're literally the same exact car. 🤦🏽🤦🏽🤦🏽
Back in the 90s, I had a friend who owned the Starion. I rode in it various times & I always pointed out to him how it was an exact copy of the Conquest. Just like Porche had a car that looked exactly like the 87 Mazda RX-7...
I know someone who to this day still owns a 1987 Conquest TSI that is black on black, turbo and manual trans with only 1800 miles. Unfortunately that kind of car with that low of mileage will pretty much need a full restoration.
好きな人は好きなんだよね。日本ではキャノンボールのイメージしかないけど。
I'm 14 and these are my dream car. My aunt had an 87' Conquest in the mid-90s and I found a photo of it when I was 9 and I have gotten addicted to them. I know more about these than most 50 yr old owners 🤣I am looking forward to buying myself one in the future.
A 1987? With the automatic attack shoulder belts? I never knew of those until around 1991.
i own one lol great video
it was only marketed by dodge never manufacurted the conquest are simply a badged starion
I remember dad from the forums and ordered parts from his shop years ago! And i believe his son had started to build a pretty serious car collecton....its been awhile but still have my 84. Interior ismt as bad but needs love too
As a teenager in the 80s I knew of these vehicles. My wife and I look forward to your videos and was specifically looking for this video. We were watching one of your previous videos and spotted this car in the background and the search was onKeep up the awesome videos .
I know the car you have is a conquest, My brother just bought a true "88 starion, and they don't mention chrysler on the manufacture plate, might add some starion content to my channle eventually, but I knew about them long before I had my dsm and csms, they were sold as the conquest through chrysler dodge and plymouth, the true starions are vary rare these days most cars you find are conquests.
I’m 59 yrs old…when I worked at a grocery store in the mid 1980’s, the store manager had just bought a Starion…tossed me the keys to drive to another store to pickup more bread.
Was an awesome experience.
Thanks for the content and especially the chicken portion was hilarious.
It's so funny how, just when people are getting interested in the Starion/Conquest, you people suddenly find one.
We still own 2 Conquests. One was bought new in 1987 and the other a 1988 bought in 1998.
do you know what the
Ive got 2 parked outside right now, ive been a conquest owner since 1994....34 years
At that time, the Supra was the car it’s in it’s class by which all others were judged. That said, the Starion/Conquest had a great rep, on the street, and as a plus was a few bucks cheaper. This is the first one I’ve seen since the aughts and by then they were super beat. Great job you guys, brings back good car memories. In those days we were just coming out of the ‘Malaise Era” of ugly/uninspired ‘three-box’ cars with terrible gutless power-trains. Then these suckers came out and it was like finding an oasis in the desert. Super fun drivers’ car!
Yes I knew about the starion because my stepdad and uncle owned each one in the 90s. I was the coolest car in the 90s for sure.
Starion and Conquest are identical, it was just Chrysler that imported them and rebadged them. It was always a Mitsubishi.
My older brother had one of those back in the day. Love the car.
