@@antoniochasten3192 Cool. What do you think of Feige wanting the first and second blade films to be canon within the MCU? I wouldn't mind because those films age like wine as years go by and the tone feels the same like the rest of the MCU but a bit darker.
@@AGSA5 I know the film rights have reverted back to Marvel so it's all good. Sounds more like a Disney move than a Feige/Marvel Studios move wanting Blade 1 and 2 to be apart of the MCU. My only concern is that Disney would want to water down the character. Make him more family friendly and appeal to the masses. Those are rated R films and if they make more they'll be PG-13. Not a fan of that. I always thought a Netflix show would've been the way to go since those shows were more adult. Maybe they will do that on Hulu since they'll basically be owning 90-95 percent of the service by the summer.
I've been waiting for you guys to interview MJW for a long time. He's one of my favorite actors/action stars of the last 25 years. It bothers me that he hasn't been offered a greater role in the current crop of comic book films. He is a more than capable actor and his physical gifts would put any of the other current heroes/villains to shame!
Great interview with Michael Jae White. Very insightful to the production of the original Spawn. I thought he was great in Spawn and The Dark Knight. I really like his role of Bronze Tiger on Arrow.
Spawn is still on of my favorite movies to this day. I think they did great for the technology they had. Michael Jai White and John Leguizamo did an amazing job bringing this film to life.
I was really looking forward to a Spawn sequel. Introducing Chapel, what happened when Priest comes back from hell, and of course Angela would have been so badass. I with the animated series would have lasted longer too. Maybe we'll get something later on down the line.
Regardless of the few cheesy bits and quirks in Spawn, I love that film and Michael Jai White's the best Al Simmons / Spawn ever. Had no idea that so much of the meaningful storytelling was cut though. That's a shame, because it definitely would have had a lot more great depths had it been that way. Just like how the animated series was pretty much perfect.

Martin Sheen as Wynn was good, John Liguezamo was great as the clown, Michael White was good as Simmons. The Spawn suit looked short and stubby, and the directing was lax and the studio cheaped out at the last minute with cg

@@Vortex_one True but you are comparing a movie directed by James Cameron to Spawn. James Cameron had top of the line everything at the time. You are comparing a movie with a multi million dollar budget, a once in a generation director and new age cutting edge special effects to Spawn? Every movie looked like shit compared to T2.
Michael Jai White = Al Simmons = Spawn THIS is where the comic book movies should return...Just so long as Jessica Priest, Angela, or Wanda doesn't show up in the final scene to save Spawn.
Only the Animated Series was the best version. The comic was a mess and went from a soldier trying to get back to his wife to an abusive man who went to hell because he punch his wife Wanda when she was pregnant. And that's canon. You can look it up
@@MarioUcomics Wait. Spawn abused Wanda because she got pregnant? Was she pregnant with another guy? If so and Spawn was dead at the time, can you blame Wanda for moving on?
Jalen Payton no what happened was Al was still a hit man and Wanda wanted to have a baby and Al didn’t. So he punched her in the stomach and killed the baby. There’s also a scene where Wanda made a joke about a threesome or something and Al hit her because of it. It was the second(?) Armageddon storyline where Spawn basically became a God and reset the Earth after God and Satan literally destroyed it with their fighting. Satan and God’s father made Al human again and when he tried to return to Wanda, Satan and God’s parent showed Al those scenes I just described, which Al didn’t remember yet. Then the Father said that he would never be able to return to that life with Wanda until he atoned for what he did - which he never will be able to.
just wished they had the spawn mask on. spawn rarely shows his real face in the show or comics. this is the problem with making the suit organic looking while the effects of the mask coming in on off did look cool as hell it would be to expensive to have the mask on all the time. So it kind of ruined the look of spawn for me to barely see it.

I always loved the Spawn movie and comics as a kid. I remember seeing that badass cover art on the magazine rack at the supermarket as a kid and I was instantly drawn to it, before I even knew what it was. Spawn basically got me into comics.
Wait...the director of Spawn was a special effects guy and the effects we got in the film is what he signed off on? I saw better effects on the 70s tv show Land of The Lost.
When I first came to America: my precious aunt took me to go watch Spawn. It was the first time I ever been to the theaters. I was 8yrs old and the only kid there, I loved it. I will never forget.
I've always loved Michael Jai White, can't wrap my head around his career NOT taking off as much as it should have, because the dude just has such an amazing charisma, star presence, and dedicated talent. I even loved Spawn as a kid (well, except the devil effects). It seems like such a waste when we're fed mediocre actors as the "it" stars instead. What I hope is that he'll stumble upon his success sort of like Dwayne The Rock Johnson did: a bit later than he should have, but with twice the bang! All the best to you MJW!
@@-TheCapedCrusader- yeah, but for me, he just don't fit in with character. When I think of black Panther, I prefer the slimmer version of him. Panthers are meant to be nimble, like all felines, and with MJW's stature, I don't think being nimble will be the case. He will be more of a powerhouse character. Plus, if MJW puts on his costume, it'll be too big for my liking. However, MJW does fit the character of Luke Cage though.
Growing on up Todd Mafarland creations and Spawn, when it was announced that Spawn was gonna be made into a movie, I was thrilled. The movie was originally intended to be rated R and more like comic spawn than the cartoonish shit they put out. Others that was apart of the film said the same things has MJW, they hated the changes and the final cut of the movie
He was perfect as spawn personally I think he can play Kratos
matrixlone BOY
Ahhhha that would AWESOME
You on some weed bruh
Kratos really
matrixlone YES
Christopher Judge now and forever!
Spawn was a great movie!
MJW and John Leguizamo gave excellent performances.
John shoukd have gotten an oscar for that performance. The guy actually ate the maggot covered pizza in that scene.
First fart “oops” second fart “twins”
He gets NO recognition or NO praise for being in a fat suit, pretty much squatting in his WHOLE performance and was funny as usual.
Cons:
1: Rated pg13
2: Cheap special effects
3: Cheesy acting
Pros:
1: Michael Jai White
2: John Leguozamo
Indeed!
MJW and cheesy acting go hand in hand tbh. He's not exactly a guy known for doing A-list movies, TDK was probably his biggest one and he's only on screen for 1 minute. He specializes in B-grade fighting movies and that doesn't help his acting skill growth
Nailed it
Remember, it was made in the mid to late 90s. I remember VHS was still around so...
@@Nathan-oe8ut but even tho i liked the movie has a kid, watching it now it was a complete mess. MJW is right it was different than it was first intended to be. The movie was made to be rated R not pg-13. I heard from others that was apart of the movie was not happy about alot of the changes and the final cut. Its the studios fault also for allowing the changes cus they wanted it to be something kids can watch to sell toys and shit which hurt the movie alot.
Seeing Michael Jai White sit in front of that Black Panther poster is euphoric
The first time I saw spawn the movie, I was blown away I thought he was so cool and from that point I became a fan.
He was/is such a perfect cast for Spawn. I really hope someone does another Spawn movie and Michael gets to reprise the role in a series of movies.
I was there opening night for Spawn. I loved it... the movie may not have held up so much, But was a fun theater experience.
Felix Alvarez
Now Mortal Kombat opening weekend experience is something streaming will never duplicate
@@ayap2252 yes sir!!! I was there for that too... when raiden had his lightning attack against sub zero and scorpion, our theater almost did a standing ovation
I saw it in theaters to
CANT YOU TRIP LIKE I DO
I def agree!!!
Hey at less he got to play a better hero in Black Dynamite
Love that miovie.
@@antoniochasten3192 I love that movie too
Yep
I liked Undercover Brother.
Ben Wasserman damn right 👍
I would like to see Michael Jai White as Green Lantern.
That is a damn good idea!
Or Blue Marvel
@@ghost245353 now that's a good ideal
He actually looks like the Green Lantern from Justice League the animated series, sounds like him too
Prefer blue Marvel.
I would love to see this 1st version of Spawn he's talking about.
If you watch Blade, you can probably get a feel of what the first cut was like. Less and less special effects and more focused on story and choreographed fighting.
Same
I remember watching Spawn at the cinema in UK when I was 13 in 1997. I was blown away by the special fx at the time and really enjoyed it as did the other people in the cinema.
By the end of day, Blade (1998) holds up much better than Spawn (1997). Also, Blade was successful enough to "spawn" two sequels.
Blade is much a better movie in every way.
there is a rumor that Kevin feige want the first and second blade films to be canon in the MCU and they want to introduce a new blade character which is the daughter of the day walker.
@@AGSA5 Her name is Fallon Grey. She's 16 years old and they were supposed to introduce her in Blade #1 ( a new Marvel Comic series) but the rumor was the hold up was because of a possible movie or TV series. I remember seeing character designs of her back in 2015. Tim Seeley was suppose to write it.
He needs to do Spawn again.
Agree, but Jamie Foxx has that role now.
Black don’t crack. Imagine if Val Kilmer in a Batman suit 😆
No
Loved the first spawn! Bring him back for the new spawn!
Michael Jai White is right it should have had that human element, because Wanda never new that Spawn was Al Simmons.
Michael was such a good casting choice for the live action but Keith... His voice has such presence. Truth is I'd love to see Michael reprise role.
Underrated
Sorry Will Smith got the phone call
I'd recast him as the new spawn movie
Jeff Araujo I agree, he still looks great.
Great interview with Michael Jae White. Very insightful to the production of the original Spawn. I thought he was great in Spawn and The Dark Knight. I really like his role of Bronze Tiger on Arrow.
H
These are the comments I look for. Needed a reason to watch arrow. Liked Daredevil better. Is he in it alot?
Spawn is still on of my favorite movies to this day. I think they did great for the technology they had. Michael Jai White and John Leguizamo did an amazing job bringing this film to life.
I love the Spawn movie, it came out when I was 12 and it is part of my childhood, it holds a special place in my heart
John leguizamo best violater ever man he played the shit out of that role
Anyone who comes up with something like black dynamite is a genius
Michael Jai white should play TASKMASTER in the mcu.
Honestly I think I could actually picture that way more than people saying he should play blade like idk I feel like taskmaster would really fit him
That makes since, seeing as how taskmaster is a master of fighting styles.
That S a great idea man..i could see him playin him👍💯
Omg!!!!
Damn dude....that’s perfect casting right there! As soon as I read your comment I couldn’t agree more! 👍
MJW will forever be known as Spawn to me lol It doesn't matter what other role he plays . He is Spawn . That's it
I was really looking forward to a Spawn sequel.
"Few" ? The whole movie was camp lol
@@deadlyninja112 "assholes and elbows" 😅
Also, no one can deny how awesome Spawns suit and make up was, and the violator's costume and special effects on the church scene 🙂😊
Hai white should be training Jamie fox for the new spawn movie! Just a thought..pass the torch so this reboot can be as good as possible. I loved the first movie.
Jaime is the next Spawn? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
He was great in that movie, even with the flaws.
Ikr if they didn't have MJW as spawn then spawn would of been 100 times worse he made it better than it really was
I'd like to see him be given a role in a DC movie or show.
Seriously, the more I see of Michael Jai White the more respect I have for him as actor. Can we get this man some bigger roles he's so underrated.
I love that movie. I wish they would do a second with him as Spawn. I’ll bet it would definitely be a box hit as long as the script and other actors are good.
Martin Sheen as Wynn was good, John Liguezamo was great as the clown, Michael White was good as Simmons.
The Spawn suit looked short and stubby, and the directing was lax and the studio cheaped out at the last minute with cg
I mean they wernt as advanced technologically as we are today. The movie was made in the late 90s. I remember watching it on VHS so I mean you gotta give it a little slack haha
@@dannyirish6526 Nah bro Terminator 2 was wayyy before spawn. Almost a decade before and they had great special effects. Do you remember the spawn special effects when spawn was in hell? Smh 🤦🏻♂️ terrible. They definitely had cheap production
@@Vortex_one True but you are comparing a movie directed by James Cameron to Spawn. James Cameron had top of the line everything at the time. If everyone had the budget to use that technology back then, Spawn wouldve looked as awesome as T2. You are comparing a movie with a multi million dollar budget, a once in a generation director and new age cutting edge special effects to Spawn? Every movie looked like shit compared to T2.
@@Vortex_one I'd fucking love it if James Cameron directed a Spawn remake.
John Legizomo was a Genuis in spawn.
Michael Jai White is real cool. Hes a good Spawn and I liked his Jax as well.
I agree and he was born to play Jax if they ever make another mortal Kombat movie he should definitely play Jax
Michael Jai White = Al Simmons = Spawn
THIS is where the comic book movies should return...Just so long as Jessica Priest, Angela, or Wanda doesn't show up in the final scene to save Spawn.
I would also love to see Michael come back as spawn in a reboot though I felt like he did a good job portraying him
Spawn was dope. Michael is right about it.. It felt quick.
Spawn Movie: It's bad
Spawn Character: I liked it
Only the Animated Series was the best version.
Would love to see the original cut of the film before they messed with it. Still I really thought the movie was sick
it has been a long time, i was a kid when i saw Spawn and i was really into these toys and really into movies in general. I remember feeling bland after the movie. Nothing stuck with me, i couldnt remember the movie one week after. It was about the story and effect. Michael Jai White was fine in the role
I Loved it....as a sixteen year old kid, there wasn’t too much comic book series adaptations into movies that had the Grit like Spawn. I am a Big Fan Of Spawn, for what it was back then.....if Spawn was in today’s movies, it would probably be a whole different story. I would pencil draw Spawn and the Clown all the time back then.
🕺🏾I Liked Spawn As A Character So Much!!!!!😎 I've Purchased His Game On Dreamcast From Capcom(He Was Also In SC2 When Xbox 1st Came Out)
The HBO show was a much better adaptation of the comic then the movie was
Yea it’s great
Great series!
Spawn was my fave movie in the 90s especially the soundtrack not sure why it didn't take off but I like to think it has an underground fan base beyond the dope comic
Spawn is one of my all time favorites hands down seen it when I was a kid
Spawn was and still is an amazing comic book movie. Highly highly underrated. Better than most comic book crap that has came out in the past ten years.
He’s still spawn in my eyes baby hell yeah ,1997 and blood and bone etc.
Me too dude, he was Spawn to me for many years before I even learned his real name lol.
Spawn is one of my favorites. Really wish Jai could play the role again
My friend and I took some acid and saw spawn at the theatres when it came out, we thought it was great!
I need some acid
I always loved the Spawn movie and comics as a kid. I remember seeing that badass cover art on the magazine rack at the supermarket as a kid and I was instantly drawn to it, before I even knew what it was. Spawn basically got me into comics.
Michael is an incredible human, talented, humble honorable person to shake hands with.
MJW would be the perfect Blade if Snipes can't do it.
I mean he's alive! 😂😂😂😂😂
Wait...the director of Spawn was a special effects guy and the effects we got in the film is what he signed off on?
I saw better effects on the 70s tv show Land of The Lost.
🤣🤣🤣
At the time it was cool
Adam McHardie My children LOVED Spawn, when they were young! Even though the F/X was lame to me as an adult, my kids didn’t EVEN notice, or care.
Content & Comments only some of the prosthetics were good, most of it especially the CGI was shit and repetitive.
Nice there was a complete version of the film. I want to see that cut.
When I first came to America: my precious aunt took me to go watch Spawn. It was the first time I ever been to the theaters. I was 8yrs old and the only kid there, I loved it. I will never forget.
@Dan Pos The movie, as a kid, I thought everyone in America was immortal and anything was possible.
It's because he refuses to do gay shit with the satanic jews who control Hollywood
He had the perfect voice for Spawn.
He would've made a crazy black panther in the mcu
His body size is too big for Black Panther.
He should be a villain
He would have made a better Killmonger
@@MyLife-og2kr not at all. T'Challa is ripped off as hell in the comics
This is the one guy that can reprise a role in a movie remake of a super hero character decades later and pull it off.
Growing on up Todd Mafarland creations and Spawn, when it was announced that Spawn was gonna be made into a movie, I was thrilled. And I remember going to see Spawn opening weekend with a couple friends. It was easily one of the biggest disappointments in my comic book geek life back then. The actors were great as actors go. Just that the movie was really bad and they did the best with what they had. Would definitely love to see a Spawn movie made in this current time tho. I think it deserves another shot on the big screen, for sure.
The animated spawn series is the darkest show on earth
Now i would like to see that original cut.
I really thought I was the only geeky kid that liked spawn I collected the toys watched the movie several times and I loved it
That Black Panther poster behind him is definitely thinking: "OMG, It's him... This is the guy who should've been me".
Wow. I wish I could see that first cut. But maybe that would just be too depressing. Glad Michael got to see it at least. And if they finally do a reboot, it would be nice if he could have some kind of role.
