    One glitch I've been wondering about for a while and would love to see you tackle is *the out-of-bounds glitch in Noki Bay.*
    There are a couple ways to get out of bounds there. One involves a springboard, and another is a spot where you can fall through the level geometry. I'm not going to try to detail them here, but you should be able to find them pretty easily online. But what's really interesting is how the game behaves if you take a rocket nozzle and try to walk around underwater.
    The first interesting thing is that when you go near the pillars, it seems to adjust the game's water level based on your position. When you go near the top of a pillar and then move away, the game sets the water level at your position.
    Another thing is that when you go toward where the ocean floor is much closer to the surface of the water, you run around really fast for some reason. Also, it seems you have infinite water when you're walking around underwater, unlike other underwater glitches which act just as if the water isn't there at all.
    I can't fathom why the game would be doing these things, and would love to see someone who knows a lot more about the game's inner workings could take a look at it and see what the heck is going on there.

      Well Ran "dol" ipe. You can and here's how. Using a trick called "Rocket Storage" we can store up a seemingly unlimited amount of rockets for Mario to use. Now you might be wondering what we need all these rockets for. After all I do store up rockets for 24 hours, to answer that we need to talk about parallel universes. When Mario has enough speed he can enter a parallel universe (or PU) and get trapped in Gay Baby Jail, but if you look closely you would see that...It's Nathaniel Bandy.

    I think a full in-depth 'Rocket Storage' explanation would be great! It's probably not going to be an easy video to make, but it would definitely be useful for the audience.
    I'm actually currently working on a 'Turbo Storage Possibilities' video, so if you were to publish your full explanation on the 'Rocket Storage' glitch before I publish my video, I could direct my viewers to your video before they watch mine.
    I say this because I don't talk in my videos. Instead, I have a bunch of text files to write and edit which can become a huge hastle when working on large projects like that. :P

  • @SSM24_

    Technically, the result of storing infinite rockets wouldn't actually be NaN. Ignoring the fact that floating-point numbers actually do have a value corresponding to infinity (and it isn't NaN/undefined), you'll actually hit a limit sooner than you might expect.
    Because floats are only so precise, and they get less precise as you go up, eventually, you'll inevitably reach a point where repeating rocket storage simply does not increase your speed any further. At this point, the gap between two consecutive floats is so large that the game will just always round back down to your current velocity.
    By my testing, in this case, it happens when your speed reaches *1,073,741,824* (2^30), at which point further rockets just don't do anything. I wrote a short program to simulate repeated rocket storage, and found that, with the values the game was giving me at particular speeds, you'll reach this speed after *5,011,152 rockets* (give or take a few, since I didn't bother properly dealing with boundary conditions). This is effectively the same result as if you continued on to infinity, but fortunately for us, we get to stop after a finite amount of time.
    But wait, we can go even further! This may be the theoretical limit on your speed, but there's also a more practical limit on how your speed can actually affect Mario. The vertical limit mentioned in the video occurs at Y = 10,000,000, and if Mario's Y position ever exceeds it, he's snapped back to this position and his vertical speed is set to 0. Because Mario's speed is expressed in units per frame, this means that there's no point increasing Mario's speed too far past 10,000,000; after this point, he'll always hit the vertical limit within a single frame. Modifying the program slightly, this seems to happen at *58,896 rockets.* Mario's speed will still be _increasing_ after this point, but it won't have any further meaningful effect.
    If anyone is curious to see the code I used, please let me know; I'd post the link here, but I don't want to risk this entire comment getting hidden by YT's anti-spam...

      So the biggest number possible would be 0xFFFFFFFF ?
      edit:
      actually, i think 0x7FFFFFFE is the biggest number for a float. The first bit is the sign, right ? And a 0 means it's positive,
      and 7 is 0111, so it's the biggest positive number is that right ?

    • @garioshi6525
      @garioshi6525 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nope, the exponent bits (the 8 following the sign when the string is converted to binary) would have to be 0s, unless I'm mistaken.

    I don't know what you experienced in terms of return-to-earth time, but when experimenting with one version of the "unlimited hover nozzle" cheat, in which the timeout on all of the nozzles is disabled, allowing you to hold down the rocket nozzle and presumably accelerate indefinitely, I think I may have gone farther than what this video suggests is possible as far as the top of the map goes. At the highest, I was able to ground pound and fall for well over an hour before I'd even crossed back under the sun. Did you have similar results with this, or could I possibly have accelerated out of bounds?

    I've been doing experiments with that mechanic as well but I used the Action Replay Code for Super Jump to reach the highest point in the game instantly. I wanted to find out how long it takes for Mario to fall back down to the ground...it took him about 70 minutes. Considering the maximum speed Mario can reach because of the aerodynamic resistance is about 200 km/h (125 mp/h), that means the maximum height he can reach is about 235 km (145 miles). Since he can reach that height with the shown mechanics in only about 1 second, that means he is flying up with a speed of about 840,000 km/h (525,000 mp/h). Temperatures 200 km up in the sky can vary between 500°C and 2,000°C (932°F and 3632°F). About 9 km ( 5.6 miles) before landing you start to see a little cloud of smoke over the volcano before the island slowly gets visible again. You can read about these stupid facts in my "0 subscriber special" that has been clicked 5 times by now. :D

    Does the coarseness of floats eventually limit the amount of momentum you can get from rocket storage?

  • @117Dios
    @117Dios 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    The fact is that "Undefined" means void, null or, in some cases, zero. So basically mario did the jump animation without momentum, so he remained at ground (zero)-level. Shooting a rocket reset his momentum. Diving with undefined momentum meant that he would do the landing animation upon reaching height 0, which was also the jumping one, so it basically just swapped animations mid-jump

    Assuming this is a standard 32 bit float, 0x7FFFFFFF is NaN, not the largest number you can do which would be infinity 0x7F800000. You should really update the description or add annotations as you're spreading misinformation.

    • @want-diversecontent3887
      @want-diversecontent3887 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tyler _
      ???
      Do you npt get the point of the comment?
      0x7F800000 (infinity) > 0x7FFFFFFF (undefined)
      And
      x > y => x != y
      He’s not saying infinity = undefined

    • @BigKitty1011
      @BigKitty1011 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Technically your comment is incorrect because 7FFFFFFF (in Hex) is larger than 7F800000 (Infinity). But the issue is...
      How can a number be bigger than infinity?
      This is why it is undefined and not infinity. There is no such number bigger than infinity. What redfuzzydice should have done is set the value to 7F800000.
      (Keep in mind though that this infinity is not the real infinity. It is a real number, it is just so big that the float automatically makes it infinity. It is similar how google calculator will automatically make numbers larger than 1.0x10^309 (or over 3 googol's) infinity)
      Also, technically infinity can never be a number since we can take any number that we 'think' is the biggest, and add an extra zero to it.

    • @BigKitty1011
      @BigKitty1011 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      And in case anyone is wondering why 7FFFFFFF is larger than 7F800000 in some cases and in other cases is smaller. We need to know what undefined means.
      First things first, undefined does NOT mean Infinity. So if 7F800000 was not treated infinity, than yes, 7FFFFFFF would be larger.
      But because nothing can be larger than infinity, and 7FFFFFFF is larger that infinity (7F800000), 7FFFFFFF is treated as not a real number (Similar to a divide by 0 error).
      This technically means that Mario has no velocity in either direction, which is why he floated in the air after falling off the edge. The game does not know which way Mario is to go since it has no number to use. But the second you update the velocity (Like using the rocket), a new number gets placed in the address. Thus, Mario now flies upwards.

    • @SSM24_
      @SSM24_ 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just posted a comment about this, but because it's relevant here I'll put it here again:
      "Actually, 0x7FFFFFFF isn't really "infinity", it's just basically what you get when you divide by zero. It's NaN, literally "not a number". The floating-point format, however, does have values that correspond to both positive and negative infinity, and those are 0x7F800000 and 0xFF800000.
      Neither of them are particularly interesting in this case, though. Positive infinity is basically just what you see in the video, and negative infinity, oddly, just makes Mario fall at about terminal velocity until he hits the ground, which is weird because much smaller finite values (like -10000) will make him immediately fall through the floor out of bounds."

  • @freshestog5486
    @freshestog5486 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I know this is a few months late, but I have to say it. Old games like sunshine usually have a set thickness to the ceiling. Also, the way momentum works is by teleporting the object (Mario) in the momentum’s direction, then recalculating the momentum based on gravity and other factors. What I’m saying is that if you go fast enough, say infinity - 1, you might be able to move vertically more distance in one frame than the thickness of the ceiling, essentially just taking advantage of this game’s lack of line based clip detection. I have no clue what would happen after, but that is a possibility.

    • @SSM24_
      @SSM24_ 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nah, basically any value you can set it to will result in the exact same outcome. Even setting it to the highest possible finite value (0x7F7FFFFF, or about 3.403 * 10^38) or literally infinity (0x7F800000, which is a special value that corresponds to positive infinity) will just make Mario immediately hit the top of the world and then start falling just like the video.
      My guess is that it's not actually a ceiling he's hitting, but instead the game is just programmed to never allow Mario to go above a certain Y value.
