- All the nozzles in Super Mario Sunshine are great. The extra mechanics they add to the game increase the replay-ability, skill-cap, and plain ol' fun. But one nozzle sticks out like a sore thumb: the turbo nozzle.
We all like going fast, I'm sure, but the turbo nozzle hardly provides anything interesting to the gameplay, nor is there much to even use the nozzle for. Well, I aim to change that, right here, right now! You will never look at the turbo nozzle the same when you decide to take, the Turbo-Box Challenge!
Jump into the secret-boxes, with a turbo nozzle of all things, and put your speed skills to the test!
For the record, the "nailed it" specifically refers to me saying chasm correctly, this time.

You don't actually need the Turbo Nozzle at all to 100% the game, as you can bypass all the gates with glitches.
To get the blue coin behind the Turbo Gate in the sea, go to the water with the sand near Gelato Beach and make sure 3/4 of Mario's body is submerged underwater, except for his head. Then, place the banana down. If done right, the banana should be able to be placed underwater. Next, clip out of bounds (I'd recommend back-stepping into the pole of the coconut fruit stand nearest to the police station) and then dive and roll-out along the floor of the obstructive plane of the underworld to avoid death, (the game will kill you if you are touching the ground for the duration of 1 second) then you should Triple Jump when you see the sand underwater appear, and then hover at the apex of the Triple Jump and then Ground-Pound at the VERY END of the hover. By Ground- Pounding, it gives you a height boost of a few pixels, allowing you to BARELY reach the sand above you. If you are now on the sand underwater, you will have had to have done this whole process moderately quickly, as the banana you previously placed underwater may have timed out and disappeared, and you will have to do this whole process again. But, If you were fast enough, grab the banana and head over to the Turbo Gate. When you reach it, line up so that Mario is facing exactly away from the stone column with the Turbo Gate attached to it, the backflip. At the maximum height of the backflip, quickly Ground-Pound when Mario is right next the Turbo Gate and throw the fruit when the Ground-Pound animation is static (Mario is curled up in a ball not moving for about a half-second) and you should clip into the gate and grab the coin. Finally, you NEED to save the game when you collect the blue coin, as you will be trapped behind the unbroken Turbo Gate and will need to Soft-Reset the game. Just pressing 'Continue' will not save the blue coin when you Soft-Reset.
To get the shine behind the Turbo Gate near where the Yoshi Egg spawns, grab a papaya (A yellow pear-looking fruit) from anywhere close enough so that you have more time before the fruit disappears, as this trick is difficult to get on your first try. Then place the papaya by the wall closest to the right of the turbo gate, and make sure it is as close to the wall as possible when placed. Then, jump into the fruit and you should clip through the wall and bypass the gate, allowing you to collect the Shine Sprite. This trick may take a few attempts, but if the fruit times out, just grab another papaya and try again.
To get to the Turbo Track inside the Police Station without breaking the gate with the Turbo Nozzle, grab a coconut from the fruit stand and wall jump off the wall on the left of the entrance to get onto a roof. Then, climb onto the the yellow roof and then spin-jump to the green roof of the police station (The one slanted at about 80 degrees.) After that, go onto the bottom left corner of this slanted roof and go about 5 pixels to the right. Next, jump and immediately throw the coconut. If done correctly, Mario should speed-drop inside a brown wall. Since you are already in the wall, walk into the loading zone of the Turbo Track, completely bypassing the gate. You will have to complete this level with the Hover Nozzle rather than the Turbo Nozzle, But it is easy to complete the level and collect the Shine Sprite by water-sliding and hovering from block to block.
As far as I'm aware, none of these glitches were known back when this video was posted, (Maybe bypassing the Turbo Gate of the shine near the Yoshi Egg spawn glitch was known, but not by many people) so It's really not your fault that you missed them. Back in 2017, It WOULD be impossible to 100% the game without the Turbo Nozzle, as these glitches had not been discovered yet. I wrote this comment to just inform you that use of the Turbo Nozzle is now not mandatory to collect all 96 Shine Sprites and 240 blue coins. (100% the game.)

Honestly, the amount of ways in which you can break open a childhood favourite are mind-boggling... please keep doing what you do!
If you have Turbo Nozzle and change to Spray nozzle and hold L, then change back to Turbo while you're L locked, you can turbo in place (and also aim your turbo around to shoot at things with it if you use the C stick to turn the camera around). You can also do a triple jump while Turbo Nozzling and get water to go crazy far. Also, if you start turboing in air (and buffer jump inputs to jump right as you touch the ground), you're in a "light" turbo state and can still wall jump. You can actually start turboing in air, wall jump, then start turboing mid wall jump and continue turboing before you touch ground again. Combined with turbo spin jumps, the turbo parkour options are seemingly endless.

i have a request. can you do the rocket box challenge? its where you store 5 rockets in whatever secret level you can get to and you need to grab the shine sprite without touching the ground. you can adjust your jump with another rocket jump to grab it too. if you do it, then thanks.
Neat idea! Yeah I can do that, but that alone doesn't seem like enough to make a video off of; perhaps I can bundle it with a few other small challenges.

I just completed this challenge. It was *AWESOME!* I love Sunshine, but I always felt like it was a bit too easy. But this challenge really gave me the trial I always wanted with this game! I followed all your rules to the letter, and it took about a hundred lives, but I definitely feel like a Turbo Nozzle master now, lol. Looking forward to the next challenge!

New Challenge idea: TurboMania
Start a new game and mod the turbo nozzle in early.
Turbo nozzle and sprayer only, no hover or rocket.
See how many Shine Sprites you can collect.
The only two missions that come to mind as impossible are Pachinko and the final boss run.

The turbo nozzle was always my favorite as it was always so fun to zoom around as well as wish people could safely do the same in real life.

Another cool thing you can do with the turbo nozzle is just barely hold in the trigger so Mario starts running without you using water and then you can go into first person.I think that would be cool to see a run of that.

Strangely enough, you still get pushed forward while doing a spin-turbo, or whatever you might call it. But I must admit, I haven't tried that!

I like to hold the button down slightly so Mario will run forward automatically as he’s getting ready to blast off, but then just keep him at speed.

There's an unused long jump animation still the game after you collect a shine sprite using the turbo nozzle
There's so many things you can do with the turbo nozzle you can spin jump you can triple jump you can buffer spin and wall jump Plus if you put yourself in first person mode and lightly press on the turbo nozzle you can run around in first person

Theoretically you could also Y-turn during the spinjump. That could help
After I saw this, I tried this! IT WAS INFURIATING!
It's not only spinning jump while turboing, you can use Y-aim to turn around while turbo spinning jump
So, I did that Turbo Nozzle Spin-Jump to see what I could do with it. Turns out you can enter the pachinko sub-level from sea-level without using the boat. Good luck getting the coin on the upper right corner of the level though.
I'll try and see what can be done some more later on.

In my playthrough, I just used the Turbo Nozzle everywhere. The controls for turning are so unique! Light for sharp turns, hold to strafe.
