Wow, I love this channel! I love this woman/host! Holy cow she is incredibly intelligent, charismatic, charming, level headed, has a great sense of humor, and together with Dr. Bernard, I am beyond interested in this content! She is indeed an absolutely gorgeous human, but her intellectual and personality attributes above that are just … magnetic! I could listen to this for like, the rest of all the free time in my entire life. Just discovered this channel.
As a fellow healthcare professional, I deeply respect and love Dr. Bernard. He brought me here. Healthcare professionals that try this hard, and uphold moral, ethical, and professional standards with exceptional dedication, are literal heroes of our society.
The healthcare system we live in, in the United States, does all it can and does crush us activist healthcare workers to death under a mountain of logistical, ethical, political, economic, social, and moral dilemmas. Those dilemmas often directly contradict our oath to protect, defend, serve our patients, and do literally everything in our power (and even outside our powers) to prevent harm to our patients.
As we both advocate for the future health of the humans we oh so love, while taking care of them, it burns us alive inside. From every angle. Our employers, our co-workers, and the entire ‘system’ from top, to bottom.
I would like to make a public declaration on behalf of the vast majority of healthcare workers, that we are often misunderstood and defined by :
Even when we’re bitchy, I promise we’re there because we love you. Despite the wretched things you say to us (we understand, you’re desperate and in need after all ♥️), we just still love you. We’re sensitive humans though. That’s why we keep subjecting ourselves to what often are the most painful experiences we endure, day in and day out. I know that it can feel like we don’t care, like we’re doing nothing, but I promise every patient that if you tell us in a manner that includes appreciation and compassion that you feel you’re being wronged, we will literally put our careers, futures, and lives on the line to try and make a difference for you.
We are that clingy ex that every time you said something positive to, they come running back to you. The one that pretends to be tough but inside is sensitive and vulnerable, because of an overabundance of love and hope. Too much, a lot of the time.
We really do care. Sometimes we just get crushed and abused and betrayed a little too hard, and it can break us. But a tiny bit of support in the other direction will make all the difference in both of our lives.
We love you - too much, and bitchiness comes with the territory as we are constantly frustrated by the limitations that prevent us from helping you in every way we’d love to.
Thank you to every patient who has been … patient with us. I apologize for the situation we find ourselves in today. You mean everything to us. We’re like your mom, and mom has to be rough sometimes to guide us down the right path. All that matters, is that mom was there. During bad. During the good.

Another great episode, i am sending it to my husband that works out 6 days a week. When I was younger and I would complain to my dad about a headache or some other minor ailment he would tell me to go stub my toe and it would fix it.

In this video they mentioned the problems with adherence and diet/lifestyle changes. I recently watched a 40 minute video by a neurosurgeon who used to do spinal surgeries and is now unemployed by choice. He quit the career because he couldn't handle the cognitive dissonance he saw in modern medicine. The best advice he could give to his patients when they had serious issues with their spine usually wasn't to get the surgery, it was live a healthy life. What he noticed, is that his patients that lived a low salt, high vegetable/fiber diet, moved their body/sweat, had strong social support groups, and reduced their stress, these were people who he rarely got a chance to operate on, because their problems cleared up on their own. The reality is, if we all ate a bit better, went on walks more often, had friends, and handled our stress in healthy fashions, we would rarely need to see doctors.

Pretty sure the MSG thing started out as a passing observation by a doctor in a letter to a medical journal that he got a headache after visiting Chinese restaurants in England. Chinese restaurants used a lot of MSG.
I don't think it was presented as some kind of full fledged study
Of course the media would have given it the popular name and spread the story.
To my mind it's like the "8 glasses of water a day" meme.

I almost lost a leg from compartment syndrome! I had black pee and woke up like unable to move my legs in so much pain. I had 7 surgeries plus a skin graft and it changed my life. They thought it was maybe caused from a change in my blood pressure related to a large gabapentin Rx but I was never told this medicine could put me at risk because of my age. My leg looked like a Frankenstein honey ham and it even spread to my arms a little especially when I stayed in one position for too long. They had to use clonidine for years to try and keep the swelling at bay. (The gabapentin was given after a traumatic car wreck and it still scares me how common the medicine is and how the body can respond to trauma weeks or months after a major incident!)
