I bought a 2018 530D X Drive recently and it’s without doubt the best car I have ever owned, I’ve had five 3 series and a 520D previously but let me tell you the 530D is awesome…..how a car should be….my tip anyone in a 3 series get into a 5 it’s night and day.
HI Paul - I loved your 530D review funnily my pal has a 335D, nice but the 5 has superior comfort levels in my opinion. What do you drive currently?
@@philipmcrae1152 I have a 2017 335d and eyeing up one of these but concerned about losing the performance.
My pal has a 335D X drive he likes my 530D - obviously size is a huge difference but the 5 will give you a far quieter ride & smoother. A 3 series is a drivers car no question but the 5 gives you a luxury drive - all depends what you want
@@philipmcrae1152 I agree with you. This is the dilemma for me I do want the luxury of a 5 series as my 3 series lacks in that department. However it’s hands down the best diesel I’ve had in terms of performance and I know I’d miss that a lot and I don’t want to regret it. I just wish bmw gave the U.K. the 540d and/or the 550d like they did to other countries. Would’ve ticked every single box for me :/
@@TheBang911 I can only suggest a test drive in one - go to a bmw dealer and pretend your interested…….I’m not an M Sport man I have SE but well specced - 50 mpg in eco 45 in comfort easy. At night they are stunning with the interior lights etc -
Just collected mine. Sophisto Grey really is stunning. Depending on the intensity of the light, the color changes. Gray-brown-black and even some purple.
I’ve got a 530d with all the bells and whistles; £64,000 new+including tv which I believe is not longer available in 5 series(?) love it as well. Rear wheel drive is more fun.

With a few mods like LSD, remap and emmision delete, this car has 330hp 580lbs torque 170mph top speed and over 60mpg in real world driving, over 900 mile tank range. With that LSD diff & remap 0 to 60 is sub 5 secs, so much extra traction and braking stability without all the weight of 4WD.
Spoke to a owner of a g31 530d today and he only manages an average mog in the 30s
Very watchable review compared to others, thinking of swapping mine and this really helped cheers, can’t get 335d out of my head though ha
Thanks Pete, both are great cars. If you need the extra space then I'd go for the 530d. If that's not an issue then 335d is a seriously capable car. Best of luck car shopping. :-)

The 'Company' I work for are waiting for 5. 530D X drive to be delivered by end of March....ours are having the Battenburg paintwork....

5 saloons at present though I'm sure they'll take some tourers too as I believe they get them for the same price.
Does 'the company' you work for modify their vehicles? i.e tune them? I bet they do?.....

Hello,. I am reliably informed that the engines are not modified. It's all down to how we are trained to drive. ..position speed gear acceleration as we say.
I understand the brakes and suspension are uprated to accommodate the extremes of operational use & an extra battery is added to run the extra electrics.
We can be driving sedately around town one minute and then a full emergency response where speeds can get up to 150 mph when conditions allow. 👍

You won't be disappointed. I've got a 530d G31 Touring and its a beautiful family motor.
Ordering mine tomorrow! What did you think to the led matrix lights? Just debating whether to spec these or not, it’s circa 1300 optional extra 🤔
Hi Andy, thanks for checking the video out. Me personally I wouldn't bother as the standard LED headlamps are still great and I think £1300 could be spend better elsewhere on options. Its all personal preference at the end of the day though. You've made a great choice though, cracking car Andy you won't be disappointed.
Thanks for the reply Paul, what options do you recommend? Currently I’m looking at M Sport plus Pack (a definite), lumbar support (also a definite), split folding seats, and visibility Pack. I test drove a vehicle with HUD which was good, not sure it’s worth 1k though
Andy Ward I agree with you definitely M Sport Plus package. Split folding rear seats is a must IMO. I’ve currently got HUD on my 335d and you do get used to it so I’d say I’d most likely go for it myself. If you haven’t got it on your current car then you wouldn’t notice any difference. 👍🏼

Wich is better 530d or 540d?
Well 540d would be lovely but we don't get that model in the UK unfortunately. Only 530d RWD or XDRIVE and LCI only 530d XDRIVE.

It does seem to be these days.
Dont be sad. The auto boxes are far better. I hate driving a manual box now hahaha.
