Everybody keeps mentioning her accent in the comments and I don't like being redundant but it's impossible to not fall in love with the way she talks! Simply adorable
Fingers like stallions charging across space, a photographic memory, an excellent chess player, 'bishops falling in love with the enemy queen', practice 14 hours a day (play time is practice),.....the mind of this women is simply phenomenal let alone the majesty of her piano play. Sometimes god gives away his gifts in bundles to the right soul in the right place.
Most healthy people need 8 hours of sleep, so 16 hours of being awake. She said 14-16 hours so what she mean she does nothing else, except feed and daily chores.
How I (we) adore and love this young lady... She has that magnetic personality JUST like the GREAT artists from the past... and that all comes across in her playing...
To everyone who is learning russian language I would recommend to study Valentina's interview to have an idea on the perfect russian pronunciation. However I simply adore her as a nice person and also her playing ... an old guy from Hungary
Beyond Horowitz or Rubinstein or Gieseking...Ms. Lisitsa is certainly the most perfect pianist in the last 100 years. Maybe ever. I've played music all my life, and every time I hear her, I think "THAT is exactly how it should be played." Chops, soul, emotion...good beyond hope. There is Valentina Lisitsa and then there's everyone else.
Most of old pianists in the past were much better than Valentina lisitsa or any other of today, and they didn't practice 12 hours. Many of them didn't had the perfect technique they didn't care they had the perfect taste and that is the reason why the old recordings will be let's say immortal.
12 hrs is on the high side of practice however 8 hrs per day is pretty common for a training musician also I used to practice 10 hrs per day on electric guitar when I was trying to gain muscle memory for very fast and intricate lines whilst learning Vinnie Moore's Time Odyssey album and some early Dream Theatre songs and lead guitar parts. It wasn't the speed that was difficult it was getting the sound right where when playing though lots of high gain you need to be so accurate that nothing came out of the speakers other than the crystal clear notes and no bleed over or scrapes ect. Once I got it super clear I could ditch off some of the high gain further improving the sound. If you are noodling for much of the time this isn't practice. I had a strict regime written down on paper which I did everyday. Playing 3 notes per string and then 4 notes per string. Most of these lines were chromatic as the notes didn't matter. They just served a purpose and nothing else. I practiced to a metronome slowly at first and then upping the speed until I played as fast as could go. I would play lines to the beat and also play them to the 'and' beat so 1 and 2 and 3 and ect....giving a different feel which made me sound very different which is why guitar players can sound so differently when they are essentially playing the same thing.
@@MICKEYISLOWD When I was younger and taking lessons, I would, practise 6-8 hours a day. Back then, friends would poke fun at the time I spent, now when I talk about it, I'm told that's not true, nobody spends that much time at the piano. 😳 Too bad no webcams back in the 80's, or I could have live-streamed like she did.
The story of the white bishop falling in love with the black queen and the search for the most beautiful move is so fantastic, that I would fall in love with this woman If I would not admire her for her piano play. I consider her one of the most musical players in the world.
It's a trap 😂 she likes drama, fall back, or she will amaze you with lots of "beautifull moves". Making an entire drama in your head and avoiding the game rules is scary, her motives are unclear, impulsive, addicted to emotions (especially dramatic ones) I smell danger no matter how I look at it. 😅
I love all Valentina's interviews. She comes across as totally honest and tells it like it is. Of course, love the accent also and the sparkling personality.
12 to 14 hours a day of practice!! I can't even imagine that. I do good to practice the piano a least an hour a day!! On my better days, maybe two. I admire her talent and her work ethic. Valentina is the best!!!
i am 70. started a year ago with puano kesson from scratch. Valentina plays 12 to 14 hours daily. she encourages me to play at least 12 to 14 minutes daily and never give up. valentina you are the sunshine of my life., 🌹❤
This lady is my HERO; yep I know the right word is heroine; 12-14 hours a practise day when she gets the chance. I used to be ridiculed by ex flatmates I shared houses with, solely because I used to practice about 2-3 hours a day. I love the line.. " people ask you what do you practice and what do you do for fun, well I do nothing for fun, 'I practice for fun'..." brilliant
You are TRULY WONDERFUL TRULY BEAUTIFUL TRULY BRILLIANT. The world is a better place because of you . I thank you with all my heart . May you live forever .
Chess!!! "If a white bishop falls in love to a black queen...looking for beautifull moves, instead of winning moves!" Valentina shows her deep soul in this sentence. Music and chess are no objects of instructions. Man´s spirit must be beautifull. Far away from books and rules.
her piano was phenomenon! it was out of my common sense. omg I can't remember since when I said I love any public person without hesitation except her ( and just a couple other). her piano was like comb my soul.
i met her more than once. brilliant pianist but also straight forward funny and witty humor!!! i respect her now that she was harassed by the west for speaking the truth about the wars.
I wonder how hard it is to make a career, then I think she did it for me, kind of, because she shares her joy of music. My abilities do not go far, but playing myself is what keeps me alive (especially after being ill) and this interview ... 14 hours a day ... I practice for fun ... this interview makes me happy. Am I clear enough? Interviewer: " ... and teacher?" VL: "Awful - I would do everything opposite [...cut]" - I love this.
I have to say, "Chess versus Piano". . . Valentine not only made the winning move, but the most beautiful move to satisfy the emotions of the masses. It's amazing how she only enjoyed performing as a child, but not the practice part; & now her entire life has become a beautiful performance for many to see, the responsibility of fame. Now she performs in multiple ways, not just the piano. Isn't that fantastic!!?
@mrjwowza if age is stronger than your desire/resolve to play, then yeah continue with your compositions. But they're plenty of people who are way older than you that overcame all these "suppose to play at the age of 3 months (practically)". Ask anyone. No matter how old you are, even if you are 5, they would say, " if only you started at 4". The beauty of older students, is that they have taken the time to learn the heart of music in their past: "experiencing life itself".

2:07 "people started saying but it's sped up" hahahah! very amusing interview, thank you. She's a great musician and great human being, I'd love to meet her one day. By the way, Val, please put again the cam in your studio, I miss your live practice sessions! :D
I have her photographic memory already and I'm almost playing at her speed. Using a metronome and increasing it gradually really helped. She is very friendly and talkative. My music teacher was a snob. I find a large number of classical pianists are. Not Valentina though. I wonder if she is slightly Asperger's? The very expressive moving of hands when talking.
@mrjwowza I know how you feel. I used to study in order to become a concert guitarist; I practiced 5-6 hours a day and it was unbearable. It payed off though; although I'm not a concert guitarist, I'm a pretty good guitarist. Now I study piano 2-3 hours a day and although it was hard at the beginning, I got used to it. Keeping a steady practice routine is the key - better 1h every day than 7h only on saturdays. Warming up before and after practice also helps to ease the load.
It is not as difficult as you may think. An easy way (which i used to use at school)is to take a worldmap, which is written in kyrillic letters. With a little bit of knowledge in geographics you will learn the main part of the kyrillic alphabet soon.
She's beautifully amazing. I am interested in her left handed talk here. She shows her hands on the table, it is seen that her right hand forefinger is noticeably longer than her index finger. The biological trait of a born left hander (not to confuse choice of left handed writing; see Wiki on this) but born with a larger right lateral brain- She mentions that "she's very visual". Another sign of a born left handed person. All great minds are born left handed-dominant right brain. M Seibold
I wish I had that kind of dedication to my own work. 2 hours of 100% concentration is all I can give, after that, I'm down to 60% - my mind starts to drift and tries to find excuses to do other stuff; like going to the fridge to find food, read a random book... going to youtube... lol!
White Bishop falls in love with Black Queen, and becomes a traitor..... It's no wonder she had to quit. She's an ARTIST, not a human computer, or military strategist.
How can someone practice 12-14 hours a day? Even if you accept the monastic existence, how do you earn a living? I would love to be able to practice just a few hours a day, but no one pays me for it. I would love to know more about her background and rise to fame. Does anybody know?
Everybody keeps mentioning her accent in the comments and I don't like being redundant but it's impossible to not fall in love with the way she talks! Simply adorable
Puh ... she's just blond. That's it.
it is probably the monolingual ameriKans making such comments. ameriKans who can hardly speak their own language properly. xxxx them.
@Scott Shields
Muhammad Ali would likely empathize
Best foreign accent I have heard
Pretty, smart and amazing
Thank you Valentina! You are great!
Seeing her live is now on my bucket list
She has such a beautiful world in her mind.
damn right. I really want to watch her perform live or met her someday...
She is such a nice person, so charming! :))) I want to hug her! love her

I wonder how many languages she know
1978ajax Next time, try a nice cold shower instead.
Or god had nothing todo with it and she just put in shed loads of work
Amen
12-14 hours a day! That is what Liszt would do! She IS Lisztitsa!
Liszt actually practised 8-10 hours each day. But back then, that was a loooooooooooooong time!
Most healthy people need 8 hours of sleep, so 16 hours of being awake. She said 14-16 hours so what she mean she does nothing else, except feed and daily chores.
She is among that select few who truly enrich our planet during their stay here.

she has a lovely accent!
she's just gorgeous

With the enormous amount of practice she puts in every day, I wonder how she ever had the time to learn English so fluently. Amazing!!

😍she is spectacular!
What an absolute legend...one of my favourite people on this planet, and a fantastic reason to be proud of being part of humanity.
Amazing woman and tremendous pianist. I loved the Chopin
Congratulations Valentina. I've been a piano teacher for 40 years, but I didn't practice more than 3 hours per day. I love teaching children.
Who disliked this Video? Get a Life, She's Very Pretty. And plays Beautifully. LOVE YOU VALENTINO LISITSA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a delightful personality to go with her exception inspirational musicianship. How the world needs people like this. Love her

"I hope it will inspire students to practice more, instead of sitting watching the camera" ...This woman is my new role model!!
Wow! Thanks for upload this interesting interview with this great pianist of our time.
She is amazing! So humble too! A GEM!! A REAL GEM!!
That's about the funniest chess story I ever heard, LOL! She is 100% charming!
I know. I am totally taken with her.
My very favorite pianist. She is brilliant!😍

I just love her and admire her!
I listen to her music and watch her video many times.
She always seems like a loveley woman :) ... happy she went to visit my country, a honor

She's so open and cool. Love it. Seems down to earth.
A wonderful women. So beautiful
I wouldn’t know you or hear you play if you weren’t active on TH-cam, so thank you.
Oh ! And she's got a photographic memory .....!....Gee ....thanks....
thanks, i still find it amazing how languages can differ so much in how we speak and write.
she is really charming.
Wish I saw this interview live.
WE LOVE YOU VALENTINA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Precious, Cute !
I wish I knew her, great piano player, beautiful, and down to earth I think. Every mans dream.

God, I love her accent so much!
Valentina you are a genius

Love that woman
If I could practice as much I think I would be a lot better at playing. However Valentina's talent is on another level!
it's weird that you have said that.... i was thinking the same... relation with teachers should be better and closer.....
How can I ask her out? just one date with the most gifted and beautiful woman in the world...
love from India. big fan of yours, Valentia

very carefully. I practiced 8 hours a day. I had no friends. I ate, lived and breathed music so i was having fun
It's a lie..She have husbend and kid..nobady can practise so much and every day... sometimes yes..It is not healthy and you get injuries..
Ana Sunajko: Injury??!! I've been playing for 45 years and I've never had an injury!
She does a lot of concerts
