I had chs and I did not know I had it. I was smoking weed for 30 years. My chs came about 3 years ago. The first thing that happened was I was smoking a spliff, and halfway through smoking the spliff, I had very bad stomach pains and stomach cramps and I vomited and didn't understand why, so I continued to smoke. 3 months before this happened. I split from my wife and children, so I was already in a bad state of depression, not sleeping, and not eating too much. I continue to smoke after this first bout of vomiting. After this first bout of vomiting, i could not eat food, and my insomnia kicked in very badly. Maybe I'm just eating two spoons of my dinner per day, and maybe 2 to 3 hours of sleep a night. But I continue to smoke. I worked through this whole period doing manual labour, and somehow my body was still functioning, and I felt strong even with lack of sleep and hardly eating food. I was functioning on Coca-Cola, Lucozade, and spliffs. Basically I was ill for 6 months and continue to smoke without knowing the reason for my sickness. 6 months later, I hit a brick wall, and my body started to shut down. I went from 17 and a half stone down to 12 stone in 6 months. I started getting stomach cramps, stomach pain, vomiting from time to time gastro problems, hypnic jokes when trying to sleep. Tinnitus in the ears. Body shaking once I did fall to sleep when I woke up with tremors. Muscle spasms. Muscle stiffness. Muscle pain. Bone pain. Muscle spasms in my back . Found it hard to walk. Numbness down my legs. Vomiting and nausea.Waking up with numbness in my arms and hands. Muscle spasms in my throat every time I lie down to try to sleep. Constipation. Haemorrhoids, I could not urinate properly. The Muscle spasms in my throat when I try to lie down, causing my throat to close, and i could not breathe when I lie down. All this time, i was going to the doctor's and getting nothing back from the doctors. But muscle relaxant tablets which I could not take. And sent me for every check-up you could imagine and found nothing. They did find I had developed a hiatus hernia,. I was told by the dr to sleep sitting up due to the muscle spasms in my throat when I try to lie down to sleep. So I had to sleep sitting up. Has more time went past, the muscle spasms in my throat got so bad that I could not smoke because my throat started to close when standing or sitting. This obviously stopped me from smoking. My anxiety and depression were so bad from missing my kids and all the symptoms from the chs and I was still not diagnosed. I felt like I was dying. My nervous system was in a very bad way. I done researching everywhere and came across CHS. I then took this to the doctor, and they diagnosed me with CHS. I continue to work through this whole period. Looking back, I do not know how I got through. But I think the continuous moving of the body was helping me somehow. I started to eat a little better and slowly slowly I started to put my weight back on. After 1 year when I was able to lie down without my throat going into spasms I started to sleep a little better slowly slowly. It's been 2 and a 1/2 years since stopping smoking. After 1 year, I was still in a very bad way, with many symptoms still remaining. Through this whole period, having hot baths with Epsom salts was helping me a great deal. Putting warm olive oil all over my muscles was also helping. Drinking bone broth also helped a lot. After 2 years, my haemorrhoids started to calm down. I was able to go to the toilet better. Both urinating and pooing. It's been 2 and 1/2 years, and I'm still have tinnitus in the ears and spasms in my back and back pain, but it's nothing like the spasms and back pain I had before. I'm still suffering a little bit with insomnia. And when I wake from sleep, my arms and hands still go numb and numbness down the outside of my right leg. The biggest help I have found in my healing period was through cranial therapy. When I start to feel quite good, sometime I would try to drink alcohol and smoke cigarettes. Drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes seems to bring back some symptoms. I tried to drink sometimes to test my body. But then I realised I could not drink. Same with smoking cigarettes. Some symptoms start to come back. I have come to the realisation that I can not drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes. And obviously cannot smoke cannabis for the rest of my life. Even standing next to someone who is smoking a spliff affects me. I was always a very fit and strong individual and felt invincible. But this whole experience has humbled me. Please look after yourself and your health mentally and physically. The one good thing I can see about CHS is that if you stop smoking weed and live a healthy life it can go away. As I said I still have some symptoms. But I feel like if I look after myself hopefully I pray to God that all my symptoms will eventually go away. it is possible that there is damage done that cannot be repaired from but I am very thankful and go forward with a positive mindframe. It is very good to see that there is information out there for people to find. It did not occur to me to go on TH-cam and type in chs back then. But even the videos on TH-cam here do not talk about half my symptoms. I obviously took chs to the Brim. And maybe I'm very lucky. But it is very good to see there is information out there and people are learning more and more everyday about CHS. If you feel you have CHS the beginner of CHS or you feel you have had it for a while please stop smoking now. Go and seek help. As I said the best thing that I found helped me was cranial therapy and God. God bless you all out there, peace 🙏

This comment section is honestly making me feel so supported, I just got diagnosed today after months of chronic nausea, and waking up at exactly 2 am to through up almost every other night, I would smoke more to make the nausea go away and to get some sleep considering my everyday responsibilities wouldn’t pause for my vomiting or stomach issues. This put me in a terrible cycle of feeling terrible, smoking, feel better for a couple hours then feeling terrible again. I absolutely love weed and have been smoking everyday for the past 3 years. Knowing quitting is the only thing that will make me feel better makes me nervous but I know I can’t live like this for any longer. Sending love to everyone going through this, it’s not easy at all.

This is extremely eye opening and I hope this story sheds some light.
I’m 31 years old, started smoking chronically everyday since 16-17 years old.
Around 25-26 I started to feel extremely nauseas every single day, mornings, afternoon and night and I couldn’t touch any food in the morning even if you paid me.
Eventually it led to more severe anxiety, abdominal pains that led to me do every cat scan, MRA, or test a doctor could do under the sun.
I went to every specialist, I went to every homeopathic doctor. I did everything you could possibly do to figure out why I felt this way everyday.
All while smoking weed every single day, lots of it. And never linking the two because I loved it and used it as a crutch so much. I think I knew but I always shut the thought down or played stupid internally to it being weed because without weed I would be lost… stupid I know but that’s weed and chronic abuse.
Last night I smoked, ate and threw up and dry heaved and went to the hospital for 10000th time in a decade.
Again, you’re healthy blah blah blah nothing they can do. And I can’t blame them, CHS is rare af and doctors are idiots.
My gf sent me CHS today, I just threw away all my weed and I don’t think I’ve ever wanted to quit this badly in my life.
Today is the day, I quit weed.

Just got diagnosed today. CHS is no joke. I've loved weed and been a daily stoner for the better part of 10 years. The last 4ish months, I've been violently nauseaus everyday and my body started rejecting food. I am an eating disorder survivor and have pretty intense depression and anxiety. For a long time, weed was the ONLY thing that would help me eat and help my anxiety.
I am so relieved to have a diagnosis after all these months, but I am beyond sad about having to leave weed behind. Also extremely nervous about my mental health and sleeping habits.

I'm 22 years old and I have been sober for 2.5 years. I was diagnosed in 2019 after around 4 years of daily cannabis use. While I still advocate for the many health benefits cannabis can have, I am also a strong advocate for the dangers that prolonged weed abuse can cause. My kidneys were hardly functioning, I developed colitis, and I was told that if I did not stop using, I would die in less than 6 months. My dehydration was so bad that I had muscle spasms and would lose control of my hands and fingers. For around a year, my body was shutting down and I was contributing to it by using weed to relieve my symptoms. To this day, I still suffer from digestion and stomach issues. I never thought I would quit. I would have rather died than quit. I am clean and healthy with a great support system and friends and family to hold me accountable.
If you're struggling with CHS and cannabis dependence, you can get through this. Your experience is valid and I am here to help!

The vomiting was so violent I cannot compare it to anything. I could literally feel my life force leaving me. The first 5 days straight I puked and screamed, that’s how violent the vomiting was. I started freezing and could only find some comfort in a scalding hot shower. I was given a cream that’s burns to help with the vomiting but I ended up having an allergic reaction and the shit felt like fire on my stomach. I couldn’t even sip water. I was so miserable I literally didn’t sleep a wink until the 12th night, and only slept for 10 mins. I couldn’t even control the movement of my eyes. I get emotional even thinking about it. Was a weed smoker for 20 years. It was a refuge for me and sleep aid. Developed CHS last year culminating in a visit to the ER. Despite the tortuous experience and hospital bills, I ended up smoking again after a few month....had another episode worse than the first a number of months later. Honestly, it's a blessing to have weed removed from me. I guess it took this sickness to get the point across that it was really wrecking my life, potential and relationships. It had become part of my identity. Make no mistake, weed is a drug that can have dangerous consequences. It's not just a plant!!! We are all living proof of that. I used to be an advocate for the legalization however, after some states made it legal, these growers mess with the composition of the plant to increase the THC. I believe that is why we are seeing such an increase in CHS cases.

I’m posting this because of the profound effect CHS had on my life. I had a particularly sour case, and am still going through its effects. My symptoms began three weeks ago. I woke up constantly vomiting for up to four hours, but as the day progressed it would get better, until I reach a threshold of smoking at which my body completely shut down. I was unable to eat a single piece of food for 12 straight days. I ended up in the ER with almost both of my kidneys failing. I dropped from 180 to 158 lbs. Before this I was a perfectly healthy individual. I worked out 5-6 days a week, running 5k and 10ks, had a nearly perfect diet, and drank plenty of water. I don’t consume alcohol, tobacco, or any other drug. My only hope is to spread awareness of this horrific syndrome. I have a fear of sleeping due to how I would feel waking up, I have a fear of turning my head because of fear of nausea, I wake up in a full blown anxiety attack out of a genuine fear of my symptoms returning. I had both an upper and lower endoscopy to confirm I had beyond a perfectly healthy GI system and have been to multiple specialist to essentially receive a diagnosis by process of elimination. I’m sober and will never smoke again. The nausea I experienced was worse than any pain I had ever felt. I, as a grown man, broke down in front of my parents crying, begging for help because I had no idea what was wrong with me and no idea where the end was. Promethazine and Ondansetron did nothing to help me. All I can say is I wish everyone here the best of luck and the best of health

I was just diagnosed with CHS a couple days ago and the more I learn about it, the more excited I am to be fully sober and feel better again. This condition is no joke. I had 3 visits to the ER within 4 days. I’m now 2 days sober and can already see a difference with how I feel in the morning. I smoked everyday for about 5 months and developed this syndrome. The pain I am going through is incomparable to any other pain I’ve felt before. Looking back, my CHS symptoms early on were waking up in the morning with knots and some cramping in my stomach, but of course, weed helped with this. Little did I know it was the cause.

I dealt with this for 2 1/2 years, I counted 49 times at the ER over that period of time. I was a habitual marijuana user and refused to believe that's what was making me sick. It started out almost unnoticeable, maybe once a month or so. But after the 1st year, I was sick 3 or 4 times a week, and it wouldn't stop until I went to the ER for meds. I was told about CHS nearly every time, but I used cannabis as a way to cope with every day for many years, so it was very hard to believe and accept that it was making me sick. The ER gave me nausea meds everytime, they'd give me the really strong meds that were mostly antipsychotics. I started developing tardive dyskinesia everytime they'd give me those meds. Scariest shit ever. Im blessed and so lucky I stopped the whole thing before it was permanent. I last went to the ER 4/18/22 and quit cannabis the next day. I haven't been sick since. I was 110 pounds, and now I'm 150. I had always been afraid to quit, but like others said, not getting sick every morning was a huge plus. If anyone here is in denial like I was for nearly three years, I know it's hard. I went from hitting my vape or dab every half hour to being sober from it for over a year, and I'm so much happier. Life is amazing and while I do miss cannabis, it's SO not worth it!

    You will try
    You will fail
    You will Learn again..
and ultimately you will quit with enough lessons from trying to quit.
eventually it gets to the point where you realize how many times you've quit. and you realize you need to live without it even in moments where you might want to try it cause "what could hurt"
this. this exact thing will hurt you again. over and over again. for all of eternity.
if you stop. you didnt stop once. you have tried to stop multiple times. and then you took the effort to actually follow through
to learn the mistakes you have made in quitting the first couple times.

No doctor will ever diagnose me with this but I deep down know this is the root of my issues. I went from smoking to vaping to edibles because my upper respiratory issues got so bad from this. I’ve been having gnarly symptoms for the past 4-5 years. Constantly hacking, clearing my throat, dehydration, having chest pain in the middle and on my left side, and having acid reflux like symptoms. I haven’t vomited chronically like others from this condition but I believe it can affect everyone differently. It’s so bad you feel sick everyday and it really affects the quality of your life. I’ve seen so many doctors and have had a number of tests done on me. It got to the point where I had a Nissen Fundoplication surgery. It’s the gold standard surgery for people with Acid reflux. The surgery did absolutely nothing for me and now I can’t throw up. I believe this has only made things worse for me not being able to release the toxins. I never wanted to believe it was cannabis but it’s the harsh reality. I’m currently two weeks weed free and I’m absolutely committed this time around. I believe my body will heal from this but it’s going to take some time. I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to use THC again but maybe things will change after my body recovers. I was diagnosed back in 2004... And like many others I did not believe it! Especially since cannabis used to help with nausea. I've gone through multiple episodes, the last one about 6 years ago. Every time I've experienced CHS I've cursed cannabis because of the hellish symptoms you experience while 'sick' with it. Well, now 6 years later of using and being CHS free I've started experience the beginning signs of CHS about to take place full force. In the past I would still smoke to try and cover up the nausea even though it made it worst! So... I'm stopping the usage before it gets full blown CHS! I started having flashbacks of the hell I went through, ER visits, extreme weight loss, muscle weakness, etc. So I'm trying my best to prevent it this time. Please believe people that cannabanoid hyperemesis is very REAL.
    Peace to you all 🙏🏼

I am 20 years old. I have been smoking frequently almost every day for the past 3 years coping with moving away from my abusive family and living alone. the thought of smoking weed is the only thing to get me out of bed most days, no antidepressants ive tried helped the sadness, it was one of the only things there for me.
I can feel my skin tingling and numbing, i am severely b12 deficient, ive been belching and throwing up bile ocasionaly on and off for about 2 years now.
Ive been in prodromal for a long time and if i dont kill my weed addiction, weed will kill me soon. Its just better to learn how to live on without it, even though it feels like it may be uprooting your whole life and identity

I know someone who has been smoking weed for over 40 years. Approximately 10 years ago he started with a vomiting episode that lasted 8 days. It would come on quickly and leave just as quickly after the 8 days was up. He has horrible abdominal pain, vomiting all day and night, cannot eat or drink anything. Now I notice that it is cyclical, meaning it usually comes in the spring March/April and again in August. Not sure why this is or if maybe he is just smoking more at these times. I have been searching and searching trying to find out answers to his sickness. He had an endoscopy and colonoscopy and everything was fine. Nobody had any answers. When I suggested it could be the weed, he didn’t want to hear that. Now I found this and wholeheartedly agree it is definitely the weed causing this. I pray he quits for his healths sake before it is too late. Thank you for sharing all your knowledge.

She is in the hospital now for another “attack” from food. It’s not the food. She came to visit us in the states for 2+ months and didn’t smoke anything here and had zero attacks and ate what she wanted. She’s been in at least 10+ ambulance rides. I think I have this. I’m in the middle of quitting right now because of it. The horrible feeling in my stomach constantly is making it a lot easier. I came here to see if there was anything else I can do to soothe this. I’ve been vomiting nonstop for well over two weeks now. I just want it to stop. I’ve been hospitalized a year ago and I think it was because of this. I was in a feeding tube and almost died. Wish me luck. I honestly, honestly really hope that I have this so I can just stop smoking and be done with it. The doctors didn’t give me enough information on it the first time I was admitted. I wish they had. Maybe I would have listened better. If you suspect you have this, it never hurts to try stopping for a while. I’m only 18 years old, and have only been smoking for 2 years. This is why they didn’t take it seriously enough I think. I don’t think it’s very common at all in people who have been smoking for this little amount of time chronically at such a young age.

As addiction works, I started off small & ofc it progressed to daily usage again, back to the wake & bake, yada yada & it’s bad again, it’s been about a 1 year of chronic use after 6 months sober & I feel just as badly as I did before. It’s definitely a wake up call considering these symptoms just resurfaced 4 or so days ago - I absolutely recommend quitting all the way unless you can truly limit yourself.

I had chs, and I did not know I had it. I smoked weed for 30 years every day. My chs came about 3 years ago. The first thing that happened was I was smoking a spliff, and halfway through smoking the spliff, I had very bad nausea, stomach pains and stomach cramps and I then vomited, i didn't understand why i vomited so I continued to smoke. 3 months before this happened. My marriage broke down, and I was missing my children so much I could not cope, so I was already in a bad state of depression and not sleeping or eating much. I continue to smoke after this first bout of vomiting. After this first bout of vomiting, i could not eat food, and my insomnia kicked in very badly. Maybe I'm just eating two spoons of my dinner per day, and maybe 2 to 3 hours of sleep a night. I continue to smoke weed. I worked through this whole period doing manual labour, and somehow, my body was still functioning, and I felt strong even with lack of sleep and hardly eating food. I was functioning on Coca-Cola, Lucozade, and spliffs. Basically, I was ill for 6 months and continued to smoke without knowing the reason for my sickness. 6 months later, I hit a brick wall, and my body started to shut down. I went from 17 and a half stone down to 12 stone in 6 months. I started getting stomach cramps, stomach pain, vomiting from time to time, gastro problems, hypnic jerks when trying to sleep, and tinnitus in the ears. once I did fall to sleep, then I woke up with tremors. Muscle spasms. Muscle stiffness. Muscle pain. Bone pain. Muscle spasms in my back . Found it hard to walk. Numbness down my legs. Vomiting, nausea.Waking up with numbness in my arms and hands. Anxiety, muscle spasms in my throat, throat tightening every time I lie down to try to sleep. Constipation, Haemorrhoids. I could not urinate properly. The muscle spasms in my throat when I tried to lie down were causing my throat to close. All this time, i was going to the doctor's and getting nothing back from the doctors with regards to why I was getting all these symptoms. The doctor was offering me muscle relaxant tablets, but I could not take them because they made a lot of my symptoms worse. the doctor was telling me to sleep sitting up due to my throat closing when lying down. They sent me for every check-up you could imagine and found nothing about the causes of my sickness. They did find I had developed a hiatus hernia. As more time went past, the muscle spasms in my throat got so bad that I could not smoke because my throat started to close when standing or sitting. This obviously stopped me from smoking. My anxiety and depression were so bad from missing my kids and all the symptoms from the chs, and I was still not diagnosed. I felt like I was dying. My nervous system was in a very bad way. I was researching everywhere and came across CHS. I then took this to the doctor, and they diagnosed me with CHS. I continue to work through this whole period. Looking back, I do not know how I got through. But I think the continuous moving of the body was helping me somehow. I started to eat a little better, and slowly, slowly, I started to put my weight back on. After 1 year of me sleeping sitting up, I was finally able to lie down without my throat going into spasms so I could lay down. I started to sleep a little better slowly slowly. It's been 2 and a 1/2 years since stopping smoking. After 1 year, I was still in a very bad way, with many symptoms still remaining. After about a year and a half, they found a 7 mm polyp, which they cut out of my stomach. Through this whole period of me being sick with chs, i had found that having hot baths with Epsom salts was helping me a great deal. Putting warm olive oil all over my muscles was also helping. Drinking bone broth also helped a lot. After 2 years, my haemorrhoids started to calm down. I was able to go to the toilet better. Both urinating and pooing. It's been 2 and 1/2 years, and I still have tinnitus in the ears and spasms in my back and back pain, but it's nothing like the spasms and back pain I had before. I'm still suffering a little bit with insomnia. And when I wake from sleep, my arms and hands still go numb and numbness down the outside of my right leg, mainly my knee and thigh. The biggest help I have found in my healing period was through cranial therapy. When I start to feel quite good, sometimes I would try to drink alcohol and smoke cigarettes. The one good thing I can see about CHS is that if you stop smoking weed and live a healthy life, it can go away. As I said, I still have some symptoms. But I feel like if I look after myself hopefully I pray to God that all my symptoms will eventually go away. it is possible that there is damage done that can not be repaired from but I am very thankful and go forward with a positive mindframe. It is very good to see that there is information out there for people to find. It did not occur to me to go on TH-cam and type in chs back then. But even the videos on TH-cam here do not talk about half my symptoms. I obviously took chs to the Brim. And maybe I'm very lucky. But it is very good to see there is information out there, and people are learning more and more every day about CHS. If you feel you have CHS the beginner of CHS or you feel you have had it for a while, please stop smoking now. Go and seek help. As I said, the best thing that I found helped me was cranial therapy and God. God bless you all out there, peace

During Covid I was under extreme stress. The entire world was. At that point in my life I was only an occasional recreational smoker. Maybe twice a week. During lockdown I started smoking every single night. Just once. But it was every single night because I figured what the hell are the rules anymore.
Fear and uncertainty led to this. Three years later this habit has remained. I am experiencing these symptoms especially under duress or traumatic stress. I have quite a lot on my plate right now, so I'm going to begin a period of abstinence. When I do experience relief, I may go back to very occasional daytime partaking but the chronic nighttime use is over. This video has been a godsend. Good luck to everybody out there who's trying to manage this.

I'm also going through CHS quite severely at the moment. A real disappointment that took me a long long time to figure out... As you said, I enjoy cannabis and it helps me in so many ways. But I didn't want to buy it from the shop or random people because you never know what's in it these days.. So I took the time and grew my own all organic and nothing on it at all apart from rain.. And maybe some bird and bug crap of course but you get the idea..
Anyway, long story short, all the organic stuff also gave me horrible CHS to the point I went from 210lbs to 154lbs over a 9 month period. I would get horribly sick in the early mornings, then feel a little better later and smoke one, which then always made me feel very much better.. Then the next morning... Around we go again.. Took me an awful long time to figure this out unfortunately too. Really sad because the cannabis helps me in so many other ways. Much more than any prescribed doctor poisons have..

I think a big part of this is that we're not smoking your grandpas weed... the cannabis today is bred to be really strong

What kind of symptoms do you get when CHS starts coming back for you? I'm not sure if I have developed this or some other illness. I don't actually vomit but I feel dreadfully nauseous with abdominal pain and muscle pains. I have prayed for years to God to help me quit smoking weed, so maybe he is answering with this. The problem is I get withdrawal so either way there is pain

this time i didn't vomit at all but i felt dizzy and nauseous, also my kidneys were hurting really bad and my cum was straight up YELLOW, also just felt like my stomach was being ripped apart and constant diarrhea. havent smoked weed since this post and all the symptoms are gone pretty much, still hard to sleep and still no dreams yet but i know when my dreams come back that the CHS is pretty much completely run its course
