I'm a middle-aged, former Harley Davidson rider; not an enduro racer. This bike is marvelous! For the same amount of money that Harley Davidson wanted for their prehistoric, Road King Special; I got a bike that is a superior machine all around. Better suspension, better brakes, more torque, more horsepower, more capability and more technology. The GS and KTM crowds can have their fun off road; lifting their fallen bikes and repairing or replacing broken bits. I will enjoy effortlessly cruising on the roadways, taking in the scenery; and taking advantage of what the Tiger 1200 does better than the other bikes, instead of focusing on shortcomings that have no bearing on my riding style or abilities.
Great review Bruce.. After riding the GS and the 2020 Tiger I was on the fence about what to do. I started 30 years ago on Sport-bikes and then Harley's for the past 20 years. Now that I'm in my 50's I want to do some longer trips. I settled on the 2020 Tiger 1200 Desert Edition largely because of what you said about the comfort, smoothness and because the wife is usually always with me. A happy pillion makes for a better trip. Your review wasn't overly critical, it was pretty much spot on and actually convinced me to buy the Tiger. Glad that you recognize that everyone is looking for something different out of a bike. Tell the boys in Hinckley that you sold a bike for them in Georgia (USA). Keep living it up!
I absolutely love my 2019 Tiger XRT. I'm 6'1" tall, 52 years old, not very muscular and don't work out at all. I don't find this bike heavy or hard to flick/maneuver in the slightest. (Maybe he wasn't in 'Sport' mode ?) Plenty of power and loads of "Grin factor!" too. I'm not sure how you can ding a $20,000 bike for "being to refined" but I guess that's tepotone's opinion. I will say that if you have the riding mode set in one of the comfort settings - then that's what you'll get. I do agree with his assessment of being a great bike for 2-up riding and it's my wife's favorite (she's 5'7" tall) - she said she never wants to ride pillion on anything else ever again. This past Spring I rented a new GS to ride in Blue Ridge Mountains to see what all the fuss was about and I couldn't wait to get home to my Tiger. Honestly, there wasn't a single thing I liked better about the GS. The owner of the rental shop agreed and said that's why he 'retired' the Tiger to his own personal bike and now rents out the GS. Lol!
The GS makes more torque at lower RPM's. I think that's what he was reacting to? I, too, would love to know which mode he had the Tiger in? I have never had to grab a fist full of throttle the way he did, when my bike was in Sport mode. Anyway, I'm happy with my Tiger. I am one of those vertically challenged people he referenced; but I also chose the Triumph because it looks better than the BMW and KTM bikes; and came standard with features that were options, or were unavailable on the other bikes. Also, I heard and read nightmare stories about the poor reliability and high maintenance costs of KTM's, BMW's and Ducati's. Here's a video of a GS owner giving the Tiger 1200 credit for having "great power".... th-cam.com/video/lGvXJ8X2tzg/w-d-xo.html
Had it in Sport mode, nowhere near as much grunt as the other main big adventure bikes and I stand by everything I say in the vids. It’s a good bike, but nowhere as athletic or dynamic as the others.
@@teapotone, You're right. After viewing your video, I discussed it with a friend that has a GS. He allowed me to ride his bike for comparison, and you are correct. There is not only more power available early on; but it continues up the rev range. The low speed maneuverability was also noticeably better.
Love the GS counter! I've ridden my 2014 Triumph Tiger Adventure XC 1200 for 2 years now and LOVE it. Gotta love the sound of the triple compared to a twin thumper. I've no desire to even try any other bike. Hand grip warmers? Mine seem to be set to either "Normal" or " Nuclear". Recent 2,000 mile trip to Colorado it ate up both gravel and curves while averaging 54 mpg overall. Great review though. Thanks!
Thanks Coy, that’s good to hear that your grips are hot enough, it’s a fairly common criticism here in the Uk that there grips aren’t hot enough, compared to the competition 🤷♂️ But I know it gets mighty cold over there in Colorado so if yours are warm enough, then that’s great stuff 👍 Stay safe and glad you enjoyed the vid
I got the 2019 1200 tiger XRT and it is so smooth and powerful. I preferred it over the Harley or GS but I didn't get a chance to ride KTM or Ducati and I do more road and rarely off road.
Thanks very much Craig, that is very kind of you to say and greatly appreciated bud. I’m hoping to be back posting publicly ASAP, just need to find a new job first 👍
I have the exact same bike had it a year now and dont have any complaints. We are normally 2 up most of the time done a couple of trips to France & one to Belgium last month really comfy ride. Great video keep up the good work.
Had my 2012 Explorer since launch, longest owned bike ive ever had. Nothing major has ever gone wrong, i find the customer service to be excellent, especialy from Laguna. I always ponder getting another bike, but its taken me to the Artic circle, across the states, without a single hiccup. I love it.
Hi Bruce, Many thanks for getting back. Glad to see that you didn’t have an off, though you obviously had a fright. I too had a scare - due to my own stupidity/carelessness - and it was that incident that prompted me to get rid of my beautiful baby. I realise that now I acted in haste, and should have given the matter much more consideration, the bike was not a year old, but selling it cost me a lot of money, as the 1250 was about to come on the scene. Anyway, I’m off to visit Lyndon in a couple of months to give the new model a test run and enjoy the sunshine and roads! I know now the result, so will probably place an order as soon as I get home. I’ve already decided on the colour! Sorry to see that you are coming under pressure regarding your vlogs, it is a difficult situation for you, only you can make the decision. For what it’s worth, your efforts will be greatly missed, of all the current motorcycling vlogs, yours and Richy Vidas are the best by far, so it would be a great loss. Before I break down in tears I’ll clear off. All the best, ride safe
Thanks bud, I’m going nowhere bud, I’ll just have to temporarily stop posting vids for a month or two whilst I find a new job. In the immortal words of a great man..... “I’ll be back!” 😎😉👍
Another great vid Mr. I will be keeping an eye out for your tour dates, hope I can get on yours and the Wildbad Picos tours next year. Keep up the good work mate!
Cheers Bruce, glad you like the vids bud. I don’t see any point in lying or trying to be something I’m not, so I just say it how I find it and try to be as balanced as I can. 👍
Yep so is the GS. Don’t see why they made it keyless ignition but you need a key for the fuel tank, but I know some other manufacturers have done that too?
Great review! Got my xrt a year ago. And youse it for commuting to work. And been enjoying every ride so far. Its a great bike. For my taste off riding.
@@teapotone Many thanks for your speedy reply. Just wanted to say ive just sat & watched your around the world trip, youtube vids back to back, Amazing. I think im going to start small with a around the UK 1st, lands end john ogroats trip & see how i go. Many thanks for your inspiration mate as ive said before keep up the great work Andy Farrar, Leeds.
Thanks bud, yep unfortunately they have. I’ve been ordered to stop all activity around TeapotOne so I’m now looking for another job. As soon as I can resign then I’ll be back posting. Sorry for the temporary interruption 🙏👍
i have one, the scottish chap seams to be marking it down for a smooth engine and excellent suspension, would i take it off road no way, he needs to watch 1200 explorer meets kevin carmicheal its all down to the nut behind the handlebar at the end of the day..
I only went down some light trails still with road tyres on mine, but I would actually be quite happy taking mine off road with decent tyres, once you get used to the weight and balance its good
A somewhat sober review, but I think an honest one..you could indeed hear it in your voice it wasn't for you. As you said, your type of riding isn't for everyone, so i'm sure some will love it.....but I do think Triumph need to up their game in the big adventure bike arena. I like your heart on your sleeve approach....it adds transparency and honesty to the review. They can't be all be outstanding bikes! Don't dwell on the Patreon ride. it was the furthest i had ever ridden for a trip, so it can only get better from here. I loved it, even post pheasant. You brought together some great people, so be proud of that...it's what you do, and do well!
Thanks Craig, I’d actually just got in touch with Honda UK and had a few of their models lined up for review - but then Corona struck! Once we’re back to normal I’ll be getting my leg over a few Honda’s for sure 😉😂👍
Hi Bogdan, I’ve been ordered to stop all activity around TeapotOne by my work sadly, hence why there’s been no new vids on here. I’ll shortly be resigning form the police so will be back posting ASAP

I've been thinking I'd seen nothing for a while and wondered where you'd got to. Really annoying that they are making you stop, what are their reasons and are you hoping to fight it? I've booked to start my IAM advanced rider training and a IAM track skills day after watching your videos on them. Most videos on the training are from mind numbing idiots (the polite vest types) and it had put me off but after seeing it from a normal riders perspective I'm now doing it. Sad to see you stop and hope you can start again.
I had a 2018 Tiger 800, great bike, low on power, swapped it for a Tiger Sport, absolutely mint, does everything. Heard rumours of a 1260 Tiger Sport with all the bells & whistles (TFT screen, LED lights, etc) at the dealer a couple of weeks ago as well.
I’m off for a around trip of the uk in August on my 2014 street triple r. Leavening from Crewe in Cheshire solo . I’m goin to take the same route as you. Wish me luck. I’ve give myself 6 days 😳
Great review Bruce, you can tell it didn't tickle your danglies as much as some of the other bikes you've reviewed lately. I bet when you first got the GS you didn't think it would be so hard to find something that you liked as much. (PS. any chance you could put a link up for that putty you're using on the GoPro. I've drowned 2 of mine recently )
Never in a million years did I think I’d end up on a GS! They were for old men who rode to the cafe 4 times a year in the summer 😉😂 The stuff I use on the GoPro is: amzn.to/2Q1kUk1 Cheers 👍
After the GS?! 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 Carry on with the GS mate! I will stick to my Tiger 1200 from may 2019!!! I like to see the mob on the GS 😂 this one is more powerfull, more specs, more stylish, more exclusive, much more rider spirit 👍 i know the GS is a great bike... But this one is... The one!😍 Ride safe mate 👍
Hello bud, Bit of an enforced layoff I’m afraid following an anonymous complaint to my work last year about the channel (I’m a copper). Due to that complaint I’ve been ordered to stop everything around TeapotOne. So... I’m currently looking for another job, and as soon as I can, I’ll resign from the police and be back posting here. Shouldn’t be too much longer, apologies for the temporary interruption 👍
Believe me Bruce I know exactly what you are going through. Was put on a suspension myself, what got me was the amount of time it took them to do nothing. Hurry back, missing the vlogs.
teapotone Ah yes, I remember that Video now. Such a shame it has come to this really. Well, it’ll be a loss to the Police service and at least you can leave with your head held high. Give a bored, jealous, feckless moron a keyboard and the internet and they’ll screw with anyone doing better than them. I don’t condone violence but whoever started this deserves nothing more than a high five, in the face with a chair. Hope it all works out quickly for you. All the best.
Carl Duttz Aye it’s ridiculous isn’t it mate, we wouldn’t get away with treating actual criminals the way ‘professional’ standards are allowed to treat the police. I’ve had it with the job now, can’t wait to leave 👍
Sketch Ness Ha Ha, you know what though Sketch, whoever it was and why ever they chose to do this, they’ve actually done me a favour as it’s the boot up the bum I needed to listen to my own advice, and LIVE my life. Time to move onwards and upwards 👍
Test rode both the multistrada and the 1200. The engine on the Duke was simply amazing, so fast as to be breathtaking. The Triumph, on the other hand, was smoother more relaxed, better on shit roads (lots of those in Kent) and had a normal ADV riding position. I loved it's class and, lets face it, do we need another GS on the roads. I speak as a GS1150 owner. Just loved the Triumph, and for heavens sake it's not heavy compared with so much else. My old Honda ST1100 weighed 100kg more and that was easy to manhandle. Maybe moto vloggers are all just lightweight snowflakes who need a trip to the gym? Lol.
Ha Ha have you seen me??? Nothing lightweight there bud! 😂 Yeah you’re ST1100 may well have been 100kg more, but the modern day competition for the Tiger 1200 isn’t, and that’s what it is being compared to. You’re right though, the Trumpet is a classy bike, comfortable and incredibly refined. But for me, it’s too refined, making it a bit too ‘beige’ for my own liking.
It’s aimed at the same market certainly, but I feel that it appeals to a different rider - if that makes sense? For me the Triumph is a lot smoother, it’s capable of a quick ride but doesn’t make you feel like you’re going particularly quick. To me it felt more of a limo, whereas the KTM/GS feel more like a muscle car? It’s subjective though, take one for a spin and see what you think 👍
Nice intro showing all the features of the bike rather than just rattling them off with dialogue 👍. Do you reckon the engine is still made of cheese? Use any oil? I noticed the average mpg was 47, so call it 45 adjusting for speedo error, which isn't bad for that size, weight and power of bike and the fact I image you weren't holding back in the Pico's.
I had no issues at all with the engine, I did around 1,500 miles in the week I had it. I’ve known a few other people personally who’ve had this model of Tiger 1200 and none of them have had any issues - but I have had people contact me to say they had. For me personally, you’re always going to have some kind of issue with a bike at some point - it’s how this issue is dealt with by your garage/dealership that really counts.
Looks like a great bike for those who are happy to poodle about. I have never noticed that you say GS a lot lol 🙉🙊 can't wait for the tour vids Bruce 👍
Thank you for another great vlog. Shame about the temporary pause to production, I was looking forward to watching the Pyrenees trip. That little bit of escapism through you on another trip. I've always thought your employers represented by your good self did exceptionally well out of your postings and hoped that common sense may have kicked in for them by now. I'm sure we'll see you as soon as possible though, take care and thanks again Bruce.
Thanks very much bud, Unfortunately it’s taken a ridiculous turn and I’ve been told to cease all activity around TeapotOne permanently. I probably shouldn’t even reply to these comments but I’m really missing the interaction with everyone, so bugger it 😉 As soon as I’ve found another job and can resign I’ll be back posting on here. (For now, you can still see regular vids over on the Patreon page 😉👍)
Great review Bruce, you really know how to do this! I’m trying to make a final decision on a touring bike for both UK and Europe. You and TMF are GS men and they are great bikes. However, Steve at Big Bike Adventures waxes lyrical with some justification that the Africa Twin is the bike, as does my instructor buddy. A close friend of mine is trading in his GS for the Multistrada. The only missing review is the new V4 Multistrada and, of course, test rides! It’s a tough choice - views Bruce, please? Looking forward to your tour vids. Are you going to the show at the NEC? Yours aye, Alan
Hi Alan, Thanks very much bud for your comment and I’m chuffed you’re still enjoying the vids. The Africa Twin is a good bike, but it has it’s limitations in terms of road riding when compared to the other big ‘adventure’ bikes. If you took it to the mountains and started really riding it hard along the roads there you’d notice that it’s not as stable or agile as the others. If you’re on the heavier side then the stock suspension will also struggle to cope when pushed hard on a fast, dynamically changing road. But, if you ride at normal road going speeds and aren’t wanting to push the bike into the ‘spirited’ realms, then it’s a great bike - particularly if you like to do some off road. The V4 Multistrada - just the mention of that Beast puts my perv face on! I can’t wait to Chuck a leg over that and take one for a hurl. 👍
Thanks for the very detailed response Bruce, I know you’re a busy man so it’s even more appreciated. Yep, I can’t wait to throw my leg over the V4 Multistrada. I just hope it’s not going to be like climbing Everest! I also hoping it’ll be at the NEC and perhaps see you there to compare notes?!! I think that’s a euphemism for a pint. Yours aye, Alan
Nice review and I felt much the same as you when I got a loan one, may try it with the boss on the back see what she thinks. Trying hard to come up with an alternative to the K1600GTLe for touring when I swap next year, but nothing beats it, getting close and saving a few grand would do however.
I tour on a Honda Crossrunner but will replace it in 2020. Its V4 has plenty of go and is so smooth compared to the 1250RS I test rode recently, so that’s out as a replacement. I’ll ride the RT but as it’s obvs boxer-powered too perhaps the same will apply. The Multistrada is out - I want a shaft-driven bike. Now, a fully specced RT is v similar in price to the K1600GT which looks awesome and would be perfect for the riding I want to do. But I’m 45, I want a K1600. Am I too young? Is that allowed? C 😊
Hello bud, Afraid my work has ordered me to stop all activity on social media following a complaint earlier this year - they say I’m promoting dishonourable conduct and I’m a disgrace to the met police. If I continue to post anything then they’ve said they’ll prosecute me for disobeying a direct order, which is sackable. So, I’m now looking for another job and will resign from the police so I can continue with TeapotOne. Will probably take me another month or two to sort out. Apologies for the temporary interruption 👍
@@teapotone Pretty sure we'll all still be here when you get the rozzers off your case😄 Stick in mate & deal with real life. Given the job hunt and last week's events, if you've any sense you'll be taking the opportunity to return to God's country.

Another great video Bruce and i Havel just seen the latest model al IECMA and people there said the 800 version is better than this one ,What do You think ?
Thanks Gerardo, glad you enjoyed it bud. I’ve not ridden the new 800 of this range, last 800 I ride was of the 2014/2015 models. I liked it for the city commute riding, was really nimble and fun, but out on the open road for the hooligan rides, it just lacked the grunt that I enjoy. Good bike though 👍
Spot on review, I own one of these and ride it 2 up 90% of the time touring. My wife loves it for pillion comfort and so do I. She may have to get used to the 2021 KTM Superadventure 1290 S soon though 😬
Ha Ha, that new SA S is the best of both worlds I think Mark - phenomenal fun when you want to be a hooligan, but also capable of relaxed 2-up touring when you need to wind it in a bit 👍
Ha Ha, you can get a lowering kit for them bud, my mate is a tad ‘vertically challenged’ and he used to own one. Try sitting on one if you’ve not already, you may be pleasantly surprised 👍
Something would have to be very special to get my GSA out of the garage. You can refine something to much and lose the character of riding. Brilliant review Bruce
Thanks Buddy, yeah there’s definitely distinct camps of rider out there isn’t there - those who like smooth refined machines, and those who love ‘character’ engines. It’s weird as I used to LOVE the inline 4 of the gixxer, and I still do love to thrash a sports bike. But the grunt, sound and feel of that boxer engine just does it for me now. However that 1290 lump on the KTM’s is insane, and the V4 on my old Tuono was sublime!
I’ve had a few dealerships and even Suzuki themselves say they’d like me to try the V-Stroms but nothing as yet has materialised? I don’t really push anyone for bikes, rather waiting for them to approach me tbh, but I think it’s about time I got a bit more dynamic about this whole TH-cam lark - especially as it may well have to become my job now! I’ll do what I can to get hold of one and do some vids on them 👍
@@teapotone Then go for it you're very passionate of biking only live once so live your life. Im shocked this channel aint had more subs tbh. And i agree with others get a KTM dunno what it is after 3000rpm it just makes you laugh and grin when ever it goes over that lol.
Thanks Gerardo, Merry Christmas to you and your family too, wishing you all the very best for 2020. I’m good thanks, sadly I’ve been ordered to stop all online activity by my work following the complaint earlier this year. So I’m now looking for a new job, and once I have one I will resign from the police and start posting again. I’m sorry for the temporary interruption to things here on the channel. Cheers 👍
Best wishes Mr and Mrs Tp1. If you are having a career change how about becoming a Beard Model. Must be a call for it somewhere? Seriously hope it all works out and look forward to the resumption of the channel.
Triumph is well past there due date on upgrading the 1200 triple. I really enjoyed riding the speed triple, but it needs a good 20+ hp along with the great torque that it's was known for.
Aye I totally agree with you there - it’s way behind the GS, KTM’s and Multistrada’s in terms of punch and grunt. It’s a very smooth engine though, and I imagine it’s a joy to tour with a pillion on one for a more relaxed experience👍
I really wanted one of these to fly the flag since moving to France, as I like the look of it more than the GS but the top heavyness, overheat issues and other niggles I purchased a GS 1250. You didnt mention the heated seats, does it still have them? I like the electric screen and the TFT looks nice. Thanks for comfirming my thoughts on this bike.
Nice work Bruce - I have to say the big Tiger is my least favourite of the big adventure crop too - just too lardy for me, shifting it around the driveway was a right pain with it's weight held high...not for me.....the Tiger 800 though....a different story!
Great vid again Bruce, looking forward to the Pico episodes👍 Interesting to also compare the 3 year warranty from BMW and the new 4 year from Ducati on their MultiStrada range soon so outshines Triumph with their 2 year👌
teapotone check out Ducati UK’s IG and on the MultiStrada range; keeping 🤞 they retain it for the upcoming V4 Multi for 2020 but not sure I can put up with chain and sprockets again after the GSA👍🤔👌
Hi Bruce, another good vid, thank you. It would be interesting if you could test ride the BMW s1000XR as a comparison too... an often overlooked sports tourer. (Just eyeing up my next (2nd bike...)).
Hi Scott, Thanks very much bud, glad you enjoyed the vid. I’ve just been looking at some dates to maybe do a Scotland tour actually, but the issue is there is hardly a hotel space available in July/August??? Even when it is available, it’s REALLY expensive! Maybe do a camping version???
I'm really stuck between the R1200GS (2018) with TFT and the Tiger 1200 (2018). Each bike has it's pro and con so it's hard to pinpoint which is best suited as I've ridden both and can't decide. I wouldn't mind going back a bit more years and get a 2015-17 GS but the only thing with it I see as a con is the 6k service intervals, analog display and cruise control placement. Tbf with the analog I'll probably just end up getting the BMW Nav to use for the speedo. Tiger 1200 2018-2021 has TFT, 10k service intervals but does feel more heavier when stationary or lugging it around. Parts/service cost is about the same in comparison. I'm currently on a Tiger 800.
I'd love to hear one with a proper exhaust, the triples always sound great. Great review as always bud :) I'd be the same, I like how they look and the older tiger I rode I did also "like". But just nothing special, nothing that'd make me buy one.
I didn’t realise that you had had an off. I had a couple of scares, and as a result decided to get rid of my beloved GS Triple Black. That was probably the biggest mistake of my life. Anyway, in a couple of months I’m off to toro trail to test ride a gs1250, if all goes well, I’ll be getting a new one. It seems that once a biker, always a biker, so good luck with your search. I’ve decided that common sense and logic just don’t come into the argument - I know I’m old enough to know better, but WTF, we only live once. Good luck with your search, I have an idea what you’ll be getting. ATB
Hi Gareth, No mate I didn’t have an off thankfully, but had a run in with a pheasant and another biker so my bike had to have a bit of work done. All good now though. Unfortunately for some reason my job has taken exception to the channel and has ordered me to stop all activity around TeapotOne permanently. Obviously I can’t do that so I’m now looking for another job, and as soon as I have that sorted I’ll be back posting regularly again 👍
Hi, Yep I’m ok thank you. Unfortunately my employer (the Met police in London) has decided I’m a disgrace to the organisation and told me to stop all activity around TeapotOne. So until I find a new job and can resign, I won’t be able to post anything. I’ll be back ASAP though I promise 👍
Yeah a lot of people have said they loved the 800 compared to the 1200. I found the old 800 fun for the commute through the city, but just lacked too end for the hooligan ride 👍
@@teapotone I bought the bonny t100 after, that was a mistake, although I enjoy it commuting.. when that goes back next year I'll get an RE Himalayan and save up for the gs BMW (pal just got one I've got a test ride booked) :-)
A good honest review. I think if I decide to chop in my GS, it would most likely be the 1250 GS or RS I'd go for. I do need to try the KTM GT though because that looks like a beast.
Aye it’s that 1290 engine that will suck you in bud, it’s fantastic! The new 1250 boxer engine is awesome too though, and combine that with the BMW customer care Package, shaft drive etc and it’s a hard complete Package to beat. 🤷♂️👍
Good question bud, and to be honest, yes I did find it a bit harder. I think that’s probably due to the centre of gravity being a bit higher on the Triumph compared to the GS, so slow speed control is easier for me on the BMW. However I’m sure if you had more practice, you’d just get used to filtering with the Triumph 👍
I just traded in my 2012 Tiger 1200 in June for a Honda Vfr1200f, only really because It got to 37k miles and the gearbox was feeling a bit.... loose? I was starting to get more false neutrals and it wasn't slick anymore. Quick check to judge its value and the cheapest 1 on autotrader had 1k more miles and a gearbox failure 😳 so traded it in while it was still worth something. I loved that bike, had a Leo Vince can without a baffle and triumphs exhaust remap so it sounded so good. It was top heavy but only noticed it whilst stationary. Could corner very quickly, never held me back and it was very confidence inspiring. Do like my vfr1200 now though, a lot more power, actually slightly heavier but feels so much lighter because of the lower centre of gravity. Cornering was by no means bad for me on the Tiger but cornering is EVEN better on the VFR. By the way I'm 23, 6'2", which probably helps understand why I moved to a more sporty bike 😅 I actually find the VFR comfortable as well, slightly less wind protection, but I get cleaner air and no buffeting so I prefer it. Only thing is seat is too hard, will get a comfort seat at some stage
@@teapotone Yeah should give it a go. They got such a bad rep from new because they were overpriced for what it was, but I picked mine up for just over £5k with 13k miles on it, its fast comfortable. Negatives are tank size/fuel economy, hard standard seat, and doesn't ride well below 15-20 mph around town. I get 120 miles to reserve, I'm pretty sure my dodgy maths worked that out as roughly 40-43 mpg which is terrible really. Also no electronics apart from ABS and then air temp and fuel gauge on the dash, no TC or anything but that doesn't bother me
Nice review and round up Bruce, nice bike with amazing tech etc., but not my cup of tea!. Just too hefty and a bit too sanitized. Super smooth engines seem to lack character/excitement. Although just being on two wheels is exciting in itself!! What is the smallest capacity/power bike you have had join your Picos tours....? Cheers, Steve
Hi Steve, Yeah I think I agree with you there, when you refine an engine to such a degree as can be done these days, it really needs to have ‘something’ to substitute for that lack of engine character in order to appeal to me personally. Re the Pico’s trips, 600’s are the smallest CC usually - you need to be able to maintain the national speed limits for prolonged periods of time throughout the twisty roads. Obviously were not expecting MotoGP stuff, I’m not the fastest rider myself, but people who come away with us are expecting a fairly spirited trip. So it’s unfair to slow people down and have them constantly waiting all the time. I use the drop off marker system which allows people to ride at their own pace. However I don’t like to just leave people to fend for themselves, so I’ll periodically bunch everyone back up and get us back together as a group 👍
Ha Ha, mate I do keep thinking about that SA to be honest. I loved the GT but the SA just felt more raw and more of an animal. A mate has bought one and out load tyres on it and he says the high speed wobble has totally gone. That 1290 engine is just addictive! Just wish it was a shafty 😉👍
Ok question, being from "across the pond" we have different road markings. What does it mean when the lain dividers are not straight, kinda looks like the dude painting the lines was drunk.
Is that the diagonal ones? /// They are lane dividers, if they are broken (have spaces between the diagonal ones and the outside white lines that enclose them) then you can enter the diagonal area. If it’s completely solid, then you can’t enter that area.
D Myers ah ok, that’s on the approach to a pedestrian crossing area. You are not allowed to park within the area marked by the zigzags, usually around 5-15metres of the crossing in either direction. 👍
Hi Robbie, Sadly someone complained to the police (my employer) about the channel which then meant I was placed on restricted duties and ordered to stop everything around TeapotOne. I’m now looking for another job and will resign from the police ASAP and get back posting on the channel. Lots to come this year, it’s going to be a big one for the channel! Here’s an earlier vid I did to let everyone know what was happening. Police Vs Bikers - I'm Being Investigated th-cam.com/video/8IkDibvc18g/w-d-xo.html
Cheers for the reply Bruce, glad to hear u haven’t buggered off ! Some people haven’t got anything better to do other than troll, shame really. I’ll Look forward to some new content, 👍
I'll keep my 16 Tiger 800xrx. Plenty fast enough, very flickable, carries easily enough luggage, economic and cheaper to buy and run. I've found over the years that GS owners are very reluctant to 'like' or even 'acknowledge' other bikes as being as 'good' or 'better' 😋 😉you know what I mean.. 👍
Can only speak for myself here Steve, but the reason I compare everything to my GS is because I genuinely think it’s the best bike out there at the moment for ME and for what I need a bike to do. If I find a better one then THAT will become the new benchmark for me. I used to be a huge critic of GS’s and their owners. I had a lot of pre-conceived ideas of what they represented. That all changed when I rode one 👍
Just tried one of these, with passenger on the back, brilliant!
Cheers Bob,
Great to hear the vid helped you in your decision, and I’m chuffed you’re happy with the Tiger.
Safe travels bud 👍
Thanks Trae👍
@@teapotone , Thank you.
Just back from Scotland on my 2018 XRT, 1353 miles in 4 days, loved every one and so comfortable I could do it all again today!
Aye it’s a very comfortable bike 👍
Love the GS counter! I've ridden my 2014 Triumph Tiger Adventure XC 1200 for 2 years now and LOVE it. Gotta love the sound of the triple compared to a twin thumper. I've no desire to even try any other bike. Hand grip warmers? Mine seem to be set to either "Normal" or " Nuclear". Recent 2,000 mile trip to Colorado it ate up both gravel and curves while averaging 54 mpg overall. Great review though. Thanks!
Thanks Coy, that’s good to hear that your grips are hot enough, it’s a fairly common criticism here in the Uk that there grips aren’t hot enough, compared to the competition 🤷♂️
But I know it gets mighty cold over there in Colorado so if yours are warm enough, then that’s great stuff 👍
Stay safe and glad you enjoyed the vid
I got the 2019 1200 tiger XRT and it is so smooth and powerful. I preferred it over the Harley or GS but I didn't get a chance to ride KTM or Ducati and I do more road and rarely off road.
Best wishes for the future Bruce, your videos are top notch
Thanks very much Craig, that is very kind of you to say and greatly appreciated bud.
I’m hoping to be back posting publicly ASAP, just need to find a new job first 👍
The GS counter had me laughing!
P.S. you missed one at 17:07
😉👍
Exactly
I have the exact same bike had it a year now and dont have any complaints. We are normally 2 up most of the time done a couple of trips to France & one to Belgium last month really comfy ride. Great video keep up the good work.
I bet it’s a great bike with a pillion too, very smooth 👍
no complaints really !! small fuel tank. lots and lots of engine heat reaches the rider above 25 degrees.get to 35 plus and its a right pain.
Had my 2012 Explorer since launch, longest owned bike ive ever had. Nothing major has ever gone wrong, i find the customer service to be excellent, especialy from Laguna. I always ponder getting another bike, but its taken me to the Artic circle, across the states, without a single hiccup. I love it.
That’s good to hear bud, glad you’re enjoying it 👍
teapotone cheers! Ohh and thanks for the sub!!
Hey Bruce, hope you get things sorted soon. Looking forward to seeing that first Vlog when you're back in business...Still loving my Tigrrrrr...
Thanks Bully, hoping to get back posting publicly again soon bud, just trying to sort out a new job 👍
This will be my next bike . I can't wait.
Thanks, really good to have a comprehensive / fair review with an honest summary. Just what we need.
Cheers.
Thanks very much Godfrey, that’s good to hear that people appreciate the honesty bud.
👍
Hi Bruce,
Many thanks for getting back.
Thanks bud,
I’m going nowhere bud, I’ll just have to temporarily stop posting vids for a month or two whilst I find a new job.

Another great vid Mr. I will be keeping an eye out for your tour dates, hope I can get on yours and the Wildbad Picos tours next year. Keep up the good work mate!
Thanks bud, you’re more than welcome along 👍
Thks.Really enjoying your relaxed approach to analysing the bikes but speaking the truth.
Cheers Bruce, glad you like the vids bud. I don’t see any point in lying or trying to be something I’m not, so I just say it how I find it and try to be as balanced as I can. 👍
my 2011 Ducati Multistrada was keyless ignition AND keyless tank lock
Yep so is the GS. Don’t see why they made it keyless ignition but you need a key for the fuel tank, but I know some other manufacturers have done that too?
Great review! Got my xrt a year ago. And youse it for commuting to work. And been enjoying every ride so far. Its a great bike. For my taste off riding.
Cheers Tom, yeah it’s by no means a bad bike is it, and it can hussle too! 👍

The poor old Tiger 1200 - always seems to get dammed with faint praise, well at least I love mine!
It’s a good bike bud, just doesn’t tickle my danglies I’m afraid 🤷♂️👍
Loved my 2012 1200 mate👍
I like mine too
i have one, the scottish chap seams to be marking it down for a smooth engine and excellent suspension, would i take it off road no way, he needs to watch 1200 explorer meets kevin carmicheal its all down to the nut behind the handlebar at the end of the day..
Thank you very much bud, that does mean a lot 🙏👍
Hi Bruce. Another great video. Have you any plans to get a hold of an Africa Twin for a review?
Thanks Craig, I’d actually just got in touch with Honda UK and had a few of their models lined up for review - but then Corona struck!
Once we’re back to normal I’ll be getting my leg over a few Honda’s for sure 😉😂👍

Hi Bruce, wishing you and your family a happy and healthy New Year!
Thanks very much bud, apologies for my delayed reply, but I hope you and your family have a great one too 👍
test drove one a few years ago hated the noise it makes , strange as i had a tiger 1050 that was awesome
Yeah I’ve heard some rumours around a new Tiger Sport too, was expecting an announcement at this years EICMA tbh but nothing yet 🤷♂️

More powerful ? ,mmmm maybe a tiny 4HP, but it’s lost lugging all the extra weight !
...and if you take the boxes off, that thing flies.
Nah not a chance - the Triumph is a much smoother and refined ride, but the GS kicks it to touch in terms of performance, hands down.
Where have you gone Mr Teapot?
Hello bud,
Bit of an enforced layoff I’m afraid following an anonymous complaint to my work last year about the channel (I’m a copper).
Yeah you’re ST1100 may well have been 100kg more, but the modern day competition for the Tiger 1200 isn’t, and that’s what it is being compared to.
You’re right though, the Trumpet is a classy bike, comfortable and incredibly refined.
But for me, it’s too refined, making it a bit too ‘beige’ for my own liking.
Pity too that Triumph foist dull, tedious colour schemes on us for 2019 / 20. Love the red. Maybe an orange and yellow Vetter inspired colour scheme.
My other bike is a Rocket 3 Touring…every other bike is a lightweight….
Ok Mate....still checking on you. You’ve got great stuff in your channel and really looking forward to your comeback. Hang in there.
Thanks Dave, I’m aiming to be back next week all going well 😉👍
So you're saying that this bike is somewhat comparable to a Beemer GS?
It’s aimed at the same market certainly, but I feel that it appeals to a different rider - if that makes sense?
For me the Triumph is a lot smoother, it’s capable of a quick ride but doesn’t make you feel like you’re going particularly quick.
To me it felt more of a limo, whereas the KTM/GS feel more like a muscle car?
It’s subjective though, take one for a spin and see what you think 👍
@@teapotone I do like the Triumph and I'm more Limo than Muscle Car. Worth a ride on one so.
Good review so far Bruce...half watched catch the rest tomorrow night after the bloodbikes..👍🏻

Bruce have you ever ridden the 2014+ Super Tenere? I am curious how this would compare to it. I think TMF has ridden both, I may ask him as well.
No Doug I’ve never ridden a Tenere to be fair?
TMF or Lamb Chops will have, and I think Richy Vida has too 👍
@@teapotone Wow that was fast, caught you at a good moment. Ya I just posted to TMF's channel. Thx.
Cheers Gary, yeah I think I may have an addiction?! 😂👍

Hi Alan,
Thanks very much bud for your comment and I’m chuffed you’re still enjoying the vids.
You can get DCT on the AT though. 😉👏🏻. No other manufacturers match Honda on that. The 2020 AT models look a lot better but pricey!
Nice review and I felt much the same as you when I got a loan one, may try it with the boss on the back see what she thinks. Trying hard to come up with an alternative to the K1600GTLe for touring when I swap next year, but nothing beats it, getting close and saving a few grand would do however.
That K1600 is an incredible bike Andy, but so is the price tag for the 18k mike service!!!!! 😬
Have you tried an FJR?
I tour on a Honda Crossrunner but will replace it in 2020. Its V4 has plenty of go and is so smooth compared to the 1250RS I test rode recently, so that’s out as a replacement. I’ll ride the RT but as it’s obvs boxer-powered too perhaps the same will apply. The Multistrada is out - I want a shaft-driven bike. Now, a fully specced RT is v similar in price to the K1600GT which looks awesome and would be perfect for the riding I want to do. But I’m 45, I want a K1600. Am I too young? Is that allowed? C 😊

I'll stick to my Tiger 800, would need a pair a Gary Glitters platforms to manage on the 1200... Great vid buddy 👍
Ha Ha, you can get a lowering kit for them bud, my mate is a tad ‘vertically challenged’ and he used to own one.
Try sitting on one if you’ve not already, you may be pleasantly surprised 👍
Was the seat in the low setting reducing your peg to seat ratio? The demo bikes seem to be set at low by default.
No bud, I did check that
Something would have to be very special to get my GSA out of the garage.
Bruce when you going to do a review on the V-stom 1k? I hear the boos already from the crowd LOL. Love the vids.
I am pleased that it’s not only me that knows how to stall the tiger
It’s the clutch..... honest! 😉👍

Happy Xmas and a Happy New year i Hope that everything Is ok for you and your family not having any notice from you
Thanks Gerardo,
Merry Christmas to you and your family too, wishing you all the very best for 2020.
I love your neck warmer..where you get it.?
Ha Ha, Poundland 😉
Good morning Bruce, Thank you for the video and review of the Triumph. Take care and catch you next time 👍😎🇬🇧.
Thanks very much Wayne, my pleasure bud, glad you enjoyed it. 👍🙏
Have cruise control Bruce?
Sorry bud yes it does 👍
@@teapotone got to have this on my next bike, think I've torn a muscle in my arm, 2000 miles in 4 days !
Greetings from Australia, mate Great video, would like to know what video editor do you use? Is it an app?
Cheers
Thanks bud, I use Fcpx (Final Cut Pro X) 👍
Thanks bud, yeah same here. The 800 was a great commuter too 👍
Great vid Bruce 👍🏻
Which phone mount are you using ? Is it phone specific?
Yep they are by UltimateAddOns, and they are all phone specific.
Tell them I sent you 😉
@@teapotone Thanks will check it out. 😊
Great vid again Bruce, looking forward to the Pico episodes👍 Interesting to also compare the 3 year warranty from BMW and the new 4 year from Ducati on their MultiStrada range soon so outshines Triumph with their 2 year👌
Wow I didn’t realise Ducati were doing 4yr warranty!!!! That’s amazing 👏👍
teapotone check out Ducati UK’s IG and on the MultiStrada range; keeping 🤞 they retain it for the upcoming V4 Multi for 2020 but not sure I can put up with chain and sprockets again after the GSA👍🤔👌
Hi Bruce, another good vid, thank you. It would be interesting if you could test ride the BMW s1000XR as a comparison too... an often overlooked sports tourer. (Just eyeing up my next (2nd bike...)).
Thanks David, I’ve ridden the old XR but will be looking to try the new one ASAP 👍
Amazing as always man, when you guys doing another Scotland tour would love to join up Bruce?
Hi Scott,
Thanks very much bud, glad you enjoyed the vid.
I’ve just been looking at some dates to maybe do a Scotland tour actually, but the issue is there is hardly a hotel space available in July/August???
Even when it is available, it’s REALLY expensive! Maybe do a camping version???
@@teapotone camping sounds great especially in July/August time
I'm really stuck between the R1200GS (2018) with TFT and the Tiger 1200 (2018).
This one actual had an arrow can on it, but still had the cat so was really quiet 👍
@@teapotone Oh really, that's awfully quiet so. A pity!! :O
ATB
Hi Gareth,
No mate I didn’t have an off thankfully, but had a run in with a pheasant and another biker so my bike had to have a bit of work done.
All good now though.
Unfortunately for some reason my job has taken exception to the channel and has ordered me to stop all activity around TeapotOne permanently.
Obviously I can’t do that so I’m now looking for another job, and as soon as I have that sorted I’ll be back posting regularly again 👍
teapotone Seriously!? You’re promoting higher biking standards and they want you to stop! Short sighted, one dimensional idiots.
What happened to this channel, is tea pot ok? Where can we get an update ._.
Hi,
Yep I’m ok thank you. Unfortunately my employer (the Met police in London) has decided I’m a disgrace to the organisation and told me to stop all activity around TeapotOne.
So until I find a new job and can resign, I won’t be able to post anything.
I’ll be back ASAP though I promise 👍
What’s the power like vs the KTM SA, GT and the BMW GS
Nowhere near as agile or quick as any of the other main big adventure bikes, but the Tiger feels very smooth.
@@teapotone thank you. I appreciate you answering all of my questions
I had the 800 xc I loved the ride but not how top heavy it was or the knocking wp suspension.. :-(
Yeah a lot of people have said they loved the 800 compared to the 1200.
The new 1250 boxer engine is awesome too though, and combine that with the BMW customer care
Package, shaft drive etc and it’s a hard complete Package to beat. 🤷♂️👍
Bruce, is this any more difficult to filter with the panniers on than the GS or GSA with their panniers?
Good question bud, and to be honest, yes I did find it a bit harder.
I think that’s probably due to the centre of gravity being a bit higher on the Triumph compared to the GS, so slow speed control is easier for me on the BMW.
However I’m sure if you had more practice, you’d just get used to filtering with the Triumph 👍
teapotone Thanks for the quick reply Bruce! Keep the videos coming 👍
Nice Helmet do you buff it
Ha Ha, daily 😂
Mark Marcus, GS. Lorenzo, Tiger 1200. By the way Bruce thanks for the honest review a little lacking with most bloggers.
Thanks Frank 👍
Nice one Scot, I’ve never ridden a VFR actually, heard they’re great bikes. I’ll need to see if Richy Vida will let me have a play 😉👍
Also no electronics apart from ABS and then air temp and fuel gauge on the dash, no TC or anything but that doesn't bother me
Helpful review! Still looking at my off season acquisition. Loving the GS counter 😂
Ha Ha thanks Gordon 👍
Fair evaluation of the bike.
Thanks Richard 👍
Sorry to hear that mate .hope it all pans out ok for you ATB👍👍
Brilliant again mate really enjoyed that 👍
What’s it like in comparison to the GS?......😉
Good vid Bruce 👍🏼
Not sure bud, never ridden one?

Did you do a runner from that garage lol?
Ha Ha a few folk have asked that!
No I just didn’t see the point in showing me going in to pay 😂👍
@@teapotone Yeah right I believe you lol.
Honesty & integrity shines through on your channel 👍🏼 👏👏👏 😎 🇺🇸
Thanks Bradley - sadly my current employer doesn’t share your view 🤷♂️
Loving the GS counter 😂👏🏻
Had to be done 😉👍
I tested it a year ago, and l liked it. I ended up with a 800xc as its cheaper and suits me better for my use.
Hi Steve,
Yeah I think I agree with you there, when you refine an engine to such a degree as can be done these days, it really needs to have ‘something’ to substitute for that lack of engine character in order to appeal to me personally.
Hi,what type of helmet it is please?
Blimey Bruce that GS needs to go bud, it's doing strange things to you!😂 come on over to the KTM gang.....we're so much cooler!
I suppose he could get a KTM if he joined the RAC hahaha
@@buddysinsight9834 nowt wrong with reliability from KTM👍😜
TheLikeableRider 🤔🤔 really!!!!
@Grumpy Old Gits you won't find any on mine pal😜
Why does the screen sound like a tonic toy
Great review.

Ok question, being from "across the pond" we have different road markings. What does it mean when the lain dividers are not straight, kinda looks like the dude painting the lines was drunk.
Is that the diagonal ones? ///
They are lane dividers, if they are broken (have spaces between the diagonal ones and the outside white lines that enclose them) then you can enter the diagonal area.
If it’s completely solid, then you can’t enter that area.
@@teapotone More like a zig zag line, if that makes any sense... if not.. I will wait till I visit and ask, just seems confusing.
D Myers ah ok, that’s on the approach to a pedestrian crossing area. You are not allowed to park within the area marked by the zigzags, usually around 5-15metres of the crossing in either direction. 👍
@@teapotone Ahhhh ok, thank ya very much!
And you can’t filter past the leading vehicle at a crossing...
That GS counter 😂! I’m actually going to look at one (a GS) today at the dealers. 🤞🏻
Don’t do it.... you’ll buy one 😉👍
Money down....I pick it up this week 😄. Been thinking about buying one for ages. Delighted!
Teapot . . . Where the hell are u ?
Hi Robbie,
Sadly someone complained to the police (my employer) about the channel which then meant I was placed on restricted duties and ordered to stop everything around TeapotOne.
