It is now after 12pm on April 2nd 2024 and the doors of this beautiful historic casino has officially closed its doors for good after 67 years of history. Tropicana you will be missed by many generations of people. Thank you Tropicana for all the memories you provided people. RIP Tropicana.
tearing this down to build a stupid Baseball stadium? Las Vegas has really sold out with all the pro sports teams there now and stadiums being built. Pretty sad.. Everything is about the $$$$
@@gymer15 same! My Dad took my sister and me there to see them at the Frontier in 1982. Tickets were $9.95 kids, $19.95 adults! A few years later, they would play at the newly built Mirage with tickets starting at around $100
So my grandparents are included in the employee photo. He was a talented painter and was the go-to guy for gold leaf lettering. So I have an ice bucket from then. An original ice bucket. It Sat down in the paint shop and grandpa took it home when he retired...
1:02 as far as the 1950s casinos that have not been imploded, wouldn’t you have to add the Flamingo and Sahara to that list? I know the Sahara went through a name change and remodel… But I don’t think that it, or the Flamingo, were technically imploded?
@TiltBrook Flamingo was demolished & rebuilt to build bigger towers to hold more rooms. Tropicana also was demolished, but the bungalow rooms were preserved since the 1950
@dantespears713 Technically NONE of the south & central strip is inside the city of Las vegas. Stratosphere lies directly on the city’s southern border, so it’s partly in & out of the city. .
It was on the strip. Sahara blvd and Las Vegas Blvd. Great hotel with roller coaster. Also long gone. History is disappearing quickly and people don't seam to care.
The last of the historic casinos/hotels on the strip. Has totally been remodeled and added on to. I would guess that this will be the next one to come down.

💯 agree. The traffic congestion they'll experience will no doubt be regretful.
Im on the way to visit it one more time hopefully I make it to the roof
😢😢😢😢😢una pena!!!😢😢😢😢
Yea America were not satisfied until we build something on every square inch of land.
I remember when they had parrots outside by the pool.
Fantastic video - better than the rest of the Vegas history videos. Information is great!! Thank you.
You completely forgot about the Sahara (opened in 1955).
Lived behind the Tropicana in 1989
How stupid to tear this down for baseball.
Exacto!!!!
This is a very well done video!
I loved the FRONTIER!
Stayed there many, many times.
I saw zigfred and roy there in the 80's...I loved the stardust...good pizza... that was a must for mob.
I actually worked there in 99.

The photo of Eddie Fisher is interesting in having Debbie Reynolds in same shot as Liz Taylor, Liz having “stolen” his affections from Debbie. 😢
Long live velvet the lion
i worked for this casino it holds many secrets
Ooh I want to know haha
Great Job on this Video !
As of a month ago this hotel has been taken down. A video from smarter everyday made me wanna learn the history of this hotel.
Tropicana probably wasn’t doing well. Sad . I stayed there many times nice place.

And now it will to make way for oaklands baseball stadium! I don’t understand how a baseball team can move city’s, must be hard for the home fans
Great story
Choose a different name. Sounds like you're trying to ride the coattail of Jordan the Lion, who just put out an excellent video on the Tropicana.
They’re demolishing this for a terrible baseball team
Wow
Does sahara not count as the strip?
Clark County doesn’t recognize the Sahara or the stratosphere as being within city limits of that part of the strip
@dantespears713 Technically NONE of the south & central strip is inside the city of Las vegas. Stratosphere lies directly on the city’s southern border, so it’s partly in & out of the city.
.
@dantespears713 THE MOB didn’t want their casinos inside the city, because they didn’t want to be subject to city law

Why would they demolish it for a stupid baseball stadium

$800 Million Dollars to perform Folies Bergere🤔🤔🤔
LMAO right? There are a ton of interesting things said in this video that made me go "uh what?"
What about the Flamingo?

The movie “Casino” with Robert Deniro is based on the story of the Tropicana
The movie "Casino" is based upon the story of the Stardust
@@mikegambino862 Correct.
Umm yeah it’s the Stardust not the Trop.
The Tangiers
Design is based off the Dunes
Interior is based off the Riviera
Story is based off the Stardust
Joe agosto will be another movie some day...maybe. it was the stardust
