@@goodgrief888 When the City Center complex (Aria, Cosmo, Vdara, Crystals) was built in Las Vegas, 6 people reportedly died during construction there. I thought my dad has said more, so Google could be reporting the number wrong, but many people die on construction sites building hotels and casinos.
In 1984, (age 12) I took a ride in a small elevator to the top of the Gateway Arch in St Louis. The tour guide gave a heavy emphasis to the fact that no workers died in its construction. She said the higher the monument or building, the higher the fatality rate.
As a local, I’d much rather see it completed than sitting there rotting away. That end of the strip certainly needs some loving, but now that two new massive resorts just opened or are close to opening (Cirque and Resorts World), Big Blue is going to face another challenge to its third attempt at opening.
@Safwaan I worked in the marketing department. I had no complaints about the company I worked for but this job was definitely a headache for us. I worked on some of the pool deck renderings that are not shown in this video. The ones in the video are fairly outdated.
Whenever I go to Vegas, I stay at the Plaza in the Fremont district. It was really dumpy back in the day, and then suddenly all the rooms had BRAND new fixtures and bedding and it was GORGEOUS. I found out later, they were able to buy all that stuff for pennies on the dollar at auction because a strip hotel had gone bankrupt during construction and they had to sell off all the assets. That hotel? The FontainBleu. I LOVE the decor at the Plaza. And the price is right for me.
@@howellwong11 I adore the Plaza. I even liked it when it was a dump. I love Fremont though. The Fremont hotels are so so so much cheaper than the strip. Golden Nugget is way overpriced for what you get. I'm Plaza til I die. LOL. I did some service work there last year and it’s really crazy to see how the inside is. It’s such a strange feeling walking it, but super cool. It’s massive!
How much of the inside was finished at that point when the work was completely halted? Were there actually rooms complete with plumbing, electricity and light bulbs installed?

I'm hearing this: company founded - executives hired and paid huge salaries, bonuses, perks, benefits- begin projects they never plan to complete - file for bankruptcy - - sell project divide loot - honest taxpayers foot the bill for this - begin again .... This is what's wrong with our economy.
"honest taxpayers foot the bill for this" how? If corporations and banks are doing this it's not taxpayers money. It's when the gov't pisses away money on things such as Solyndra and all the gov't give away programs pols think up that it is the honest taxpayer's money. My thought is that Vegas should have preserved and marketed some of the older resorts as heritage venues rather than blowing them away to try for the next big (literally) thing.
Yeah… idk about there being a magical time before corporations in vegas. The entire history of the city, from its founding, is based on gaudy excess and making quick bucks. Preserving historical vegas locations would have been nice, but the culture doesn’t really allow that. The old casinos had some incredible historical value, don’t get me wrong, but the reality is that the managers and land developers had the same ‘disposable money sponge’ perspective back then as they do today.

I used to live in Las Vegas in the 90s, and vacationed there for years before that. When I lived there, I ran a record store on the north end of the strip (I actually caught a glimpse of the building in one of the aerial shots in this video). Even back then, 25 years ago, the north end was a mess. I guess nothing's changed. Las Vegas used to be a great town, but since the corporations took everything over...not so much anymore. Looking VERY forward to Closed For Storm, Jake!
Consider yourself lucky to be gone. The city is a shadow of its former self! Bad enough there are mundane mega resorts with no character to speak of, but they're charging for parking, resort fees, and the bums are allowed to sleep in the doorways of resorts like Harrah's and Ceasar's! No joke, they are turning The Strip into SF! Most buffets are still closed too! They reopened the buffets only for Circus Circus, Excalibur and Baccanal (and you have to make a reservation for that one!).

However, bad time is simply that…bad timing. Hope it has a future. Must be frustrating for the residents of this city.

From the minute we wake up in the morning, put our feet on the floor getting out of bed, open the door, walk into our bathroom, take a shit, a shower & shave - we have already come in contact with about 100 products that the Koch Evil Empire owns.
No one should be this wealthy.
@@bablumenthal9703 Not anymore. The Kochs were Bush Republicans. They are globalists and open border advocates. The current GOP calls those old hawkish GOPers "RINOs". Examples are Liz Cheney, Mitt Romney
@@cattycorner8 the Koch bros, Bush, Cheney, Romney, McCain etc are what the GOP correctly call “progressives”. And we all know that the progressives ruin everything they they touch, take a look at the democrat party for what progressives are. Their only goal is to get gain and power over the people and then blame their opposition for doing the exact same thing.
I used to work for the GCs who worked on this building since 2007 but was laid off due to covid. They were so excited to see what would become of this project for 2020, hopefully it can be finished relatively soon.
With Resorts World opening…they might as well make this into condos!
Interestingly Resorts world was being built at the same time FountainBleu was. It was originally called the Echelon and was owned by Boyd gaming I believe. It stood as ruins for many year until it was bought and finished.
Condos, after the condo tower collapse in Miami Beach, not so sure. It looks more like a prison to me.
@@Timeless80 it would be a shame to leave a building of that magnitude vacant. This is a weird time that we live in. Where I live, there are bidding wars for properties. My neighbors have put FSBO out and they ask ridiculous prices and get even higher ones. Bidding wars.
Wd wat happened n surfside condo i dont think people still interested investing der money into waste
Just pre-ordered Closed for Storm! I lived in the south when Kathrina hit so this will be for old time’s sake.
I remember El Rancho said on the marquee "Coming Soon Countryland"
I absolutely love this series!!! It is always so well done and incredibly interesting, keep up the good work!!!
Wow - this is an incredible story and is amazing how it came full circle with the Sofer family. This story has the making similar to the American Dream mall in Secaucus, NJ
Heard of fountinbleau in MIA but never thought it could be a brand. Wish there was London-themed resort in America
You are a fantastic filmmaker, and I don’t know if I was one of the people whose comment recommended this resort to you but I’m so happy to see you’ve decided to create a story about it. This is the Ocean Casino of Las Vegas, but way worse 😂
Edit: I have a weird obsession with this stupid hotel ever since I visited it during construction as a kid
I guess that makes my $50K second mortgage not quite as dramatic as I thought.
(HERE IS THE GOSPEL MESSAGE OF JESUS CHRIST) JESUS CHRIST DIED ON THE CROSS FOR OUR SINS AND HE WAS BURIED AND HE ROSE AGAIN ON THE THIRD DAY BY FAITH IN GOD'S SON THE LORD AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST AND JESUS CHRIST ONLY SALVATION SHALL BE YOURS AND ETERNAL LIFE WITH GOD IN HEAVEN WILL AWAIT YOU WHEN YOU DIE THE BIBLE JOHN CHAPTER 3 VERSES 16 THROUGH 21 AS WELL AS 1ST CORINTHIANS CHAPTER 15 VERSES 1 THROUGH 5 THE BIBLE
@@jolliebearforchrist5468 Well, ok, I believe that, but trying to figure out what that has to do with my mortgage.
wholesome comment award
Man, I remember when this channel was in the tens of thousands. Congrats man!
Of all the stuff I’ve seen with incomplete buildings, this is easily the most complicated and biggest wtf I’ve watched.
