I love that these documentaries are showing that the Fashion Industry isn't just about vanity and looking pretty, there's so much behind it. These are so interesting
I would love to see Alexa do a focus on sustainable fashion, taking a look at less polluting methods, plus vegan lines. For example, there are really exciting vegan alternatives to leather, such as Piñatex.
I agree with your suggestion. There are also some companies now that are exploring mushroom leather to replace animal by-products, with a similar texture to real leather.
Such a brilliant and interesting series with the ideal person pulling it all together. Love Alexa's style and attitude and sense of humour. She always seems genuinally interested and informed. Hope you continue to do more of these.
wow this is what exactly what i want to be, these people are very passionate about their career and what they are doing and empower others with their knowlegeds and experiences, i wish i could find a job that i'm passionate about i know it's not that easy but it will be worth it!
I'm not even interested into fashion! But Alexa you made it so interesting, and the way you tell the story and tour personality + all the designers stories, made me feel so inspired to do so many things! thank you so much!!
this doc was literally more insightful & useful than any industry talk/conference i've ever attended (and those were many). great job british vogue and alexa!
This series is by far one of the most influential/ meaningful I have ever seen. I'm constantly faced with the problem of whether I should actually pursue my dream of content creating, art directing, and fashion documenting (I know too much to actually be true) or follow what my parents want which is an "actual" career such as law, etc. I constantly have this anxiety of whether or not I should follow my dream and what happens if I'll never make it, and whether or not I have the ability to actually succeed in what I want to do. As a young boy living in a place where there's not much interest in fashion and it's quite boring, I feel that coming from my background (economically as well) would never grant me a position to do what I've always dreamt of. On top of that, my parents are repeatedly telling me the correct path is the "actual career" path so I'm left thinking "Are they right... Will i only succeed in doing something I don't love". This video clarified most of my concerns, and for that I'm very thankful xx.
It's been 2 years since your comment. How you're doing, mate? (I'm really interested - your 2 years younger self feels like on a crossroad and it all sounds like a story I'd like to know. No, don't call me a freak :D)
This is your one life. Live it the way you feel would bring out your best self. Emphasize your strengths. Never choose a career solely for security or money. Do something that makes you feel inspired and creative. It will pay off.
It’s always good to pursue your dreams, even if you end up someplace else. It’s about the journey. If you get something out of studying Law maybe do it, and explore your creative calling in your spare time. Many skills you learn in a degree are transferable. One of the things I learned is how to research. I’m sure you will get stuff out of studying Law that will give you extra insight.
46:09 you can sense that that woman has so much knowledge and from the way she speaks it seems like she's a very sweet person. I would want her to be my professor, I could listen to her all day.
I love how you've unpacked a complex and misunderstood industry. As a marketing exec it was really helpful to see how other leaders have stumbled onto their path. Please do a show about how trends start on the runway from the top $$$$$$ designers and then how those trends trickle down to the masses. It's changing now, with the bloggers and street style instagram.. isn't it? Fashion need to change like other "disruptive" industries. Anyway thanks for being fun and down to earth, too.
It's just so tough, though! These documentaries are amazing, and it's super fascinating to look at all these different sides of the fashion industry that we don't think about. At the same time, it's so hard to fully get away from the idea that the fashion industry is about superficiality and excess. Like a lot of other people have said here, it's a pretty small demographic who can go into shops like these and think "Wow, $300, so worth the price!" I live in New York, and it's pretty easy to guess that New York is not ONLY made up of people working in billion dollar industries, people who can't spend a month's rent on one handbag. And that's where the arguments aren't quite there yet. Saying that the fashion industry is actually amazing, filled with wonderful and friendly creative people trying to make a difference. Yes, but...
your instincts are right... Fashion is not a "healthy" industry in its proposition and in its essence: it basically sells inverted values, goes against the grain of life (youth better than aging, ryou have to be rich, beautiful etc... letting alone the fact that the outside matters more than the inside). It plays on your fears of not fitting in, and not being 'enough', and brings mimetic desire to its paroxysm, it inflates the ego... It is basically nefarious no matter how much you dress it up in appealing layers and filters of silk and discourse and glamour... That being said, it is ALSO a platform for creative people, full of talent and spiritual power and visions to find an outlet to their talents, and make a living out of it... It is an imperfect outlet, but still it has it own merits too, not JUST negatives... for instance, it's interesting to see the form that sociology, history, politics, pop culture can take in the minds of different creators, since clothes and garments are like captures of the spirits of a given epoch/era... that creative side of fashion is interesting. This embodiment of the spirit of a given time/era... and the different anthropological dimensions/propositions that stem from a same period/cultural context... it creates spaces of personal development... and has big societal impact in many ways...
I'm not in fashion but in the creative industry. This series is great at showing the dynamism of the industry; things that can be applied in many fields. Way to go British Vogue & Alexa. Wonderful to watch.
Alex this is brilliant, beautiful and simply ballsy...I love the way you "Chat" with everyone, but still get them, through their own waffle, to the point. Love love..this is a concept that you already "own" I don't think anyone else could deliver this the way you do. Love some more!
Idk for me as a middle class person it’s feels as though these places, like opening ceremony are so out of reach- my friends and I would just never feel comfortable to walk into a place like that, so it feels slightly ironic how they talk about it being a meeting place for everybody, instead it’s a meeting place for those can afford to be respected in such a space.
Keep in mind, there is ALOT of money in NYC and LA.. BUT you can Use them as inspiration. think about it.. humans still want "a meeting place" , items that make you smile, ( i want the dog coin purse) , and good design.
@@Mssilverbelle TRUTH. We tend to forget the base rates when it comes to wealth. There is A LOT - I mean A LOT of money in the world. From NYC, LA, Korea, and Japan, there are more millionaires than one would imagine. @@ayetreyyy - I found it had to do with renting and car ownership...In NYC folks have more disposable income to spend on putting stylish clothes on their backs. Elsewhere, a heavy mortgage and expensive car/s to pay off car curb such indulgences...
Sahara Topaz which is why I refuse to ever in my life finance a car - what a SCAM. I’ll buy used all day. Then again, leveraging is a tool.
I love this. I recently graduated mid pandemic as a Sociology major and I would love to get into fashion; so, hearing all of these people say they graduated with a Liberal Arts degree gives me hope. 4 years later... but thank you so much for this.
Gosh, Alexa just makes me smile so much! What a beautiful personality, voice and way of thinking. It's so refreshing to see someone love what they are doing!
The thing i like the most about these series it's the way it shows that fashion can be original, inspiring and has a lot to do with personality and individual expressions.

Dear Alexa and Co. whom made this program, Thank you for giving such a wonderful insight into all the different avenue's of the fashion industry in NYC. As someone who has worked in the design world (designer) for almost 15 years I certainly did not think of all the courses my road would go, however viewing this made me so happy to know there are many young (.. or old) fashion fledglings whom can be inspired, relate and ultimately choose a fantastic path that suits them in the great wide FASHION WORLD> hugs and kiss, keep up the good stuff. Stephen
After watching this pretty impressive piece of journalistic brilliance, I have to ask myself why it took me so long to click on this film that kept scrolling by me in the side bar. Alexa Chung is a real dynamo at connecting and asking the best questions that get right to the crux of what one should know about being successful in this business of fashion. Wow... This really got my mind all fired up on so many levels. I will definitely watch this again and already have a list of people who I know will find this not only useful but very engaging and delightful. Great stuff, here... Not to be missed!
Thank you Alexa for this very authentic and professional documentary. It's really a pleasure to watch your series. Thank you so much for this exclusive information on the industry. There is only so much that I can learn in school. These videos make me excited for all the opportunities there are in the world of fashion!
That was fascinating. Lots of things I hadn't heard of. As an administrator for my day job I'm now thinking there might be a start up who would love and value my admin skills as well as my creativity
Can we please, pleeeease, PLEASE have a show consisting of, basically, Leandra Medina and Alexa Chung having conversations? Maybe you could include new guests every show but the two of them together is 🔥 I love how Alexa reacts to what Leandra says! LOLOL
I have been a fan of Alexa for years but I honestly have never heard her speak before! I know, terrible of me... And listening to her voice now, I am surprised at how much it made me love her even more.
Some people come into our lives & leave footprints on our hearts. Others come into our lives & make us wanna leave footprints on their face. Hi Do you intend to chuckle so hard ? Then search on google "makemelaugh8282" or "make me laugh 8282"
.. excellent interviews! I enjoyed the discussions on business/entrepreneurial aspects and the presentation of various back-of-house works involved in the fashion industry! It is an engaging and well put together interview... thanks @Alexa-Chung - brilliant journalist!
Just finding Alexa and now her VOGUE series. Maybe not surprising as I am slightly out of the target market range at 59. Currently seeking a fresh start in business I have cheered every word of this video. Well done!
I've just finished the public examination for uni admission in my city so I can finally watch the second series. I'm quite daunted by my exam performance and afraid that I may not be able to obtain the university degree (given the fact that I can't afford non-funded uni programme and I am not the one who's artistically intelligent), which I think can prepare myself for my future career in fashion industry as it has always been my aspiration. However, this series is giving me so much courage. Those opinions made in the series are really inspiring and helpful. Looking forward to the third series!!!
I don't really care so much for fashion industry and I haven't been following Alexa's work in recent years but I always liked this girl, even when she was back in England, she smart and capable and has a great charisma and attitude. Seams real. I'm glad she did good for herself in the US. This documentaries are really interesting :)
Loved this. All the little tips and tidbits of info paired with the artistry and music made this quite enjoyable. Love the advice of the Blogger at the end! Thank you.
Thank you for such wide informative body of knowledge from all angle of the Future of Fashion World with you Ms. Alexa Chung in New York / British Vogue. Keep spreading the love, knowledge and understanding of this Craft! Very much appreciate you!!! E. Young from New York born in Belize City...
where was I when they´ve posted this video last year?! it´s absolutely amazing! Alexa love your voice and positivity. Leandra is super cool, I would love to meet her which is not possible but well, you can always dream. thanks Vogue!
This was extremely helpful and insightful! Fashion Marketing is interesting to me along with Motion Media and Graphic design; this series provides a look into potential careers and behind the scenes tips! Thank you so much Vogue and Alexa! I look forward to the next series.
I love the dynamic between the two CEO s she talked to. If only more could be thus they would not only be more successful but happier. I mean if your not happy it must stunt creativity and more. Joseph and omg can't think of her name. So great I want his clothes!!!!!!
So many ideas to inspire our students to create a future world of work for themselves that isn't weighed down and limited by traditional career-survey descriptors!
Can you please do an episode on being a celebrity styist or a stylist in general and go in detail on what goes on during fashion week and what goes into hosting a fashion show???
I love that these documentaries are showing that the Fashion Industry isn't just about vanity and looking pretty, there's so much behind it. These are so interesting
😂😂😂The first 'designer' doesn't know how to design. Other people do the work and she puts the name on it
This is actually EXTREMELY helpful, especially to anybody in school stuck on what major will get them in fashion!
Gosh I've been skipping this video for months. I didn't expect this to be extremely inspiring and unbelievably informative.
idk why but I LOVE her voice

PanarchyInTheUK nothing beats leather. The durability for example is why I prefer real leather than anything else.

Excellent advice for bloggers desiring to monetize their web presence and growth strategy! Thank you Alexa Chung for a great video!
3 years and this doc is still relevant and informative. Alexa is amazing, btw.
"You wanna do a PYAAANTS line? Fantastic!" XD She so cuUute!
This stuff is awesome! You guys need to do a third series fo this. Showing how things have changed already in 2018! omg.
Thank you so much for this exclusive information on the industry. There is only so much that I can learn in school. These videos make me excited for all the opportunities there are in the world of fashion!
I love everything that features Alexa! :)
LOLOL
I feel like I'm watching the reality show version of The Devil Wears Prada movie...
Thanks a lot for such a big inspiration! I've discovered so much trough these series about fashion industry.
Love love love this series! Love Alexa! Please do more!
Yasmin Chong щ
I have been a fan of Alexa for years but I honestly have never heard her speak before! I know, terrible of me... And listening to her voice now, I am surprised at how much it made me love her even more.
This has to be the MOST informative video ever produced.
More, please. ***** then more and more and more and more and more and MORE and MORE *****
I really loved the interview,NY has so many things to offer and is an infinite place to wonder and is the source of so many things. Loved to see you

How inspiring and insightful this is to the ins and outs of not only the retail side but also the creative side. This SLAYEDD 100 percent!! Love Alexa
Alexa's American accent is Emma Stone
100%
😂😂
Emma Stone 's British accent would probably be Alexa
@@Hollyhock7 wait it actually is, in the favourite it's got similarities
Some people come into our lives & leave footprints on our hearts. Others come into our lives & make us wanna leave footprints on their face. Hi Do you intend to chuckle so hard ? Then search on google "makemelaugh8282" or "make me laugh 8282"
I am so impressed by this show. Fantastic Q&A. Really well dun. Greetings from Brooklyn
.. excellent interviews!
I love Alexa's personality!! She's soooooo down to earth!
this series/documentary is timeless
Loved this. All the little tips and tidbits of info paired with the artistry and music made this quite enjoyable. Love the advice of the Blogger at the end! Thank you.
Watching your blogs in fashion and netflix series is amazing love your passion!
LOVE THIS SERIES. Nice people presented in a very real way.
Great ideas!! For everyone who start their life over and over again I say... Hell, YEAH!!! The world needs you!!!
I'm watching this in 2018 and Alexa was right about big sleeves! 2017 was all about the exaggerated sleeves
Very interesting documentary !!!!!!!!!
Fascinating. There is so much interesting content. The legal issues are astounding. I love this series and I am sure to watch it through again.
