- By now you might know of my obsession with all things French, and in the next episode of my Franglais series I have roped in Paris' style maven Caroline De Maigret. I know, right? It's why I like Trinny and her rail of things from 10 or even 20 years ago and how she's styling them. No nice vintage stores near me--I need to plan a trip into L.A. for the weekend. It's hard to buy vintage online when you're short and not super skinny.

I'm french - and thank you for the interest you have for our culture - but please, english girls and women are so great, much cooler, excentric and free than french ones!! Loooove english styles!! Paris - and I live there - can look so boring cause everybody looks the same, no one takes any "risk" with their style. Embrace your englishness, don't try to look french, you're way cooler!

tbh I've been both to london and to paris and i just love the dark lipstick look on myself, while in london it would be just normal or I'd even get compliments (in the words of the guy who helped me at lush waterloo station, "goth queen"), in Paris I'd get side eye, or confused looks on why i was wearing that look, which is not only sad because parisian won't take risks, but they seemed quite judgemental on you if you just do you

Please, please continue with this series!! I want to see you peek in many French women’s closets. I would like to see a stereotypical small French wardrobe, not like huge wardrobes that fill entire rooms. I like seeing the thought process of picking out outfits as well.

Running towards my mid 30's now and I swear by simplicity in both skincare and make-up. Still look alot younger then my friends who experiment with restalin and botox fillers... Age with confidence. Age gives you an advantage and a subtle authority. So nice! Loved this video.

I look up to women like Tracee Ellis Ross. She is elegant and dresses "her age" but can pull off wearing a triangle bikini top, high waisted sport pants, and a leather blazer too. Its about having class, wearing clothes that FIT you, and being true to your inner self.

Alexa, your channel is honestly so refreshing and charming. Anytime I watch it, either while getting ready or having a my breakfast or folding laundry, I really feel as though I’m having a great convo with a favorite gal pal who is at the same time much cooler than me but also so humble and sweet and would want to learn all the ways I am cool as well. 😎

I would say 'learn how to look yourself in the eye' is better advice, but it may not achieve the French chic look, so each to their own. (sorry, don't mean to be salty at you, just that that bit kinda got me in the solar plexus.)
I was really glad to hear her say that, I've always felt I couldn't judge my clothes or hair even properly when looking in the mirror, when looking myself in the eye...I realise now why, and the psychology behind it, and relieved its not just me!

I was eying on that orange coat before she grabbed it; it looks so chic! I do prefer and agree that having a statement coat and having something monochrome or complimentary underneath is the way to go. I think having fancy coats are very underrated.
Caroline is responsible for me not being able to grow out my bangs:) every time they get to the past-eyes awkward stage I give up and trip them thinking "whatever, I'll rock one style with bangs forever like Caroline":)

In watching this series the thing I find the most peculiar about her seemingly quintessentially French pals is that they all have moments of intense deep understanding and knowledge but the very next sentence will be something very vain or shallow I don’t know what to make of them

I love the Franglais series! I love how the discussions are focused on developing a personal style that stays with you. I have definitely focused on investing in pieces to stay in my closet long term versus buying more trendy pieces that I end up giving away after a year.

SVP please please please make more episodes. I have started to live by these Franglais lessons. I lived in Paris for a semester abroad and I could never figure out how French women were so effortlessly cool and stylish and I was bungling my way through Europe trying to emulate it. This has been so educational and entertaining.

Caroline is still one of the most beautiful woman alive to me, and such a badass! We're all our own worst critics and the things she sees in herself (the wrinkles, the more delicate skin, etc...) really don't register to me or others. I'm still so jealous of her meticulous bedhead and her leather jackets and her impeccable posture. I think in 2020 I want to try to see myself how I imagine others might see me and care less about the trivial little bits that I hate about myself.

I know it's been 3 years since this video has been published but this is probably the 5th time I'm watching it - actually all of the videos in your franglais series. I LOVE this series...it's so refreshing to see videos (well produced videos, I have to add) that focus more on personality, humour, style and the frankness between women. This video, and the series as a whole, is so much more engaging than your typical superficial exchanges of 'what to buy' and 'who to wear'. I really hope you keep making these videos - maybe even branch out to other countries which have different standards and etiquettes on beauty and style. Keep it coming, Alexa. In my books, you are the modern day Jeanne Becker, who is a legend in fashion journalism (well at least in Canada).
